I went out and played at stone River last week and I must say the course has gotten much better over the past few months. Last time I was out it was much worse. My issue recently is the hostility of the staff I encountered. When we arrived, one of the cart attendants was screaming at someone in the middle of the parking lot, and not on a good way. When we were finished on the course we got some hot dogs (they were good) however, while we were eating 1 older and 1 middle aged men employees were arguing about other staff openly right next to us and overall ruined the peaceful environment. I hope to have a better experience next time.

The new manager has no idea how to manage. The male owner brings his dog into the kitchen. The female owner screams at employees when the manager is the one who messed up the schedule/communication.
I heard they were getting better because a management company had been hired, but I don't see it.

I have played Stone River for many years, and generally, I have enjoyed playing there and my normal foursome thought of it as our "go to course". That changed as the beginning of this year when the course became nothing but dirt fairways and greens that were really bad. We haven't played for several months until one of our guys suggested we go back and give them a chance. We were very pleased with the course. Fairways were in good shape and greens were really nice. It was very evident that they have really have been working very hard to make the course up to par. Some tee boxes need some TLC, but from what we saw, they are working g hard. We will be back.

The greens are in great shape, tee boxes still need a lot of work, played 10/12/25, most tee boxes are still very hard and in need of repairs, the fairways are in the best shape i have ever seen, but still need more work, but with all that being said, they are moving in the right direction, it was a very good experience compared to past years, will start playing there more often.

The course has made impressive strides in the recent months, I am certain, they have received some reviews this year that detail course conditions…….most of those are from visiting golfers, who in their defense, traveled and paid to play somewhere most of us would say is sub par……..I played yesterday (10/10 ) and today (10/11) chatted with new (to me) staff members, and the few OG ones that remain, I can 100% get behind this CC and their direction. To the ownership group, 👏👏 very good move for the course. I may be a little biased, but only by maybe a half a star lol.

I was kind of hesitant to play this course however with the price, decided to book a tee time and give it a shot. First off, the clubhouse has a nice, comfortable feel with a cool water feature and fish pond, gives it a classy feel. Excellent selection of drinks and cigars, adequate selection of polo's and hats, even though they don't have sizes for us bigger lads, XL was the biggest I saw. Decent selection of gloves, balls etc there was well.
The front desk guy was helpful and prompt, didn't get his name, tall, skinny, dark hair. Pours a generous shot.
The "range". So, it's across the course, quite a bit away from hole 1, it's about 1/2 a mile away, which isn't an issue unless you're kind of an idiot like me and didn't ask for clarification, we ended up driving all around the back 9 until finally pulling up a map. So, I say "range" because it's really....eh it's basically just a field. They have some mats out there but the hitting area was about 15 yards in front of the mats, and I personally prefer hitting off grass. It says no drivers, irons only, but at the back of the range it's about 270 yards to a fence line so most people hitting driver wouldn't be an issue. If they put up a net at the fence line, and across the left side where there's a fairway and green that would very much increase the usability of the range. Either more mats, or get the greenskeeper to maintain the sod and move it when needed.
Now...the course. I had read several reviews that state the course was a wreck, a goat pasture, weeds, etc, which prompted my suspicion and hesitation to book a round, but ultimately, I'm glad we did. The fairways weren't perfect by any means, but for the course being where it is (old farm land), it's actually in really good shape and you can certainly tell they're working on it and getting things in to much better shape. Next time out I plan on bringing my drone and shooting the holes (if you're from the course and interested let me know, I'll do it for free).
Tees were in good shape, clearly marked. Fairways, like I mentioned are not near as bad as either some reviewers made them out to be, or they've really done a ton of work to get them in much better shape. Greens were very good, no poa annua that I noticed, they were manicured and well taken care of. They were however slow compared to other courses in the area, that's not a negative just an observation. If you're used to playing courses in Rowlett, Mesquite, Garland etc they usually run at around an 11 or 12 (especially during hot, rain-less months), Stone River seemed to be running at a 9, possibly even an 8. I didn't bring my stimp meter but plan on bringing it out next time just to do some testing on the greens.
Ball washing stations in abundance, tee signs all in good shape, I didn't notice off hand any water coolers on the course but there's a chance I just didn't see them. There are a few porta-potties on the course, not an issue for guys who just have to pee but I could definitely see a woman, or having to do something other than peeing could potentially be an issue. Hopefully they'll eventually put up a few restrooms on the course. Even just vault toilets would be better.
Cart girl, oh my dear cart girl. The transfusions you made us were absolutely amazingly perfect, I was however upset to not see you again, maybe they get off work at 5 or so, but definitely would have been nice to have some beverage service on a Saturday into the evening.
Folks, give this course a chance, especially at $26, $28 and $34 a round when booked through their tee time booking service. Kudos to Encore Leisure for their work so far, I'm excited to see what they do with the course, especially if they can keep the prices on the lower side, tee times would be booked up quick and could potentially drive other local courses to drop their fees a bit.

Please get with your Marshall. There is no need for him to yell at us and tell us to “take it up with the front office if you don’t like it.” Then, when the course gets backed up on 15 (literally one foursome in the fairway and three waiting), he turns around and doesn’t do anything about it. But, heaven forbid your left tires are off the cart path on a par 3, he’s all up in you about it being cart path only. For a course needing patronage, this ain’t the wait to get me to come back.

I joined SRGC mostly because I was spending so much at the range. In fact, I signed up before I even played a round (I’ve played since the Aki Ranch days, but not in a couple of years). After my first round in the beginning of May, I questioned my decision. I played 45 holes this week and I had to give them a shout out. They have busted their behinds getting this place in shape. From the guys and girls behind the counter, to the guys washing the carts, to the ones taking care of the course, it’s incredible how far they’ve come. There are still some holes that need work, but they’re on it and the course will only get better as the summer goes along (as long as they keep watering and keep at it). Play up, clean, and stop and enjoy the round.

All of the greens have more sand than grass. The back nine is in horrible condition, literally worst maintained course I have ever seen in my life. Drive it 280 and straight, but lose the ball in 7” tall fairway grass. Absolutely ridiculous, there is absolutely zero maintenance occurring!!! And on the front nine, I was literally playing a hole when the mower, who kept going while I was hitting, then drove his mower over my ball on the fairway. This was my second and absolutely last time playing this course, we literally left before finishing 18. I can’t believe they are charging full price for this place! They should be allowing free play plus a box of balls, anything less is a complete disgrace. If they want to stay open while they fire and rehire someone to take care of the course, they need to offer something to compensate us for our absolutely thrown away time, money and balls.

This place is on a good tract of land. They really have the chance to create a great course. And the area this far east of Dallas could really benefit from a well kept course. But today was one of the worst experiences on a golf course Ive had. It rained a bit this morning so it was plenty wet as to be expected. But it wasn't busy and it took us more than 5 hours to play, and a good hour of that was spent just trying to find our golf balls THAT WERE IN THE FAIRWAY. The spring rains we have had are no excuse for not mowing the fairways and the length of grass on the fairways are totally unacceptable. Grass was as long 5 inches+ in many areas of the fairways and far longer in the rough and outside of the cart paths. I ran into another golfer while looking for a ball, and he was clearly a very skilled golfer, and he commented that he has only been playing trash balls all day because it was so difficult to find your ball (again) IN THE FAIRWAY. Though their greens have been recently punched, they are generally pretty decent, but they also are not cut well and are unbelievabley slow. We have played here a couple of times in the dead of summer in the past, and the place is as hard as asphalt. There were only two holes on the course that looked like proper golf holes and had at least appeared to have been cut within the last 7 days. It appears they have spent all of their money on golf carts and the weird koi fish pond with a waterfall awkwardly placed in the floor of the pro shop. Yes, you read that last part right.

Would give 0 stars if possible. Course is not playable. The middle of the fairway is 6” rough. Even if you hit the fairway, you spend 10 min trying to find your ball. Unless you hit a dirt patch, you can’t find your ball. Greens are cut to the length that the fairway should be

Would leave a 0/5 if I could.
Paid $44 for a weekend afternoon tee time. Pro shop says “only holes 1-4 are a little rough”
No.. the whole course was rough. Fairways weren’t even close to a fairway. It was a damn jungle. Not even mowed. Couldn’t find my ball anywhere. This is the absolutely worst condition of a course I’ve ever playe. Greens were basically sand. Fairways were like hitting out of the rough.

Nice staff. The fairways were the worst. One of the staff on the course said they had terminated the greens keeper as he had not fertilized the fairways in months. The greens were just punched but looked like they were going to be good in a couple of weeks. Overall, I won’t give them another try for at least a couple of months. Everyone gets a second chance & I hope to give them five stars next time. Small bucket of range balls $10.🤣🤣

Probably the worst course I have ever played as far as the condition of the course. Price was reasonable if the course was in better shape. Staff was nice.
The fairways that actually had grass in them were a muddy mess. The course does not drain at all. Standing stagnent water all over. Some fairways are not even playable. Greens were in poor shape as well. This course needs a ton of money spent to correct all the drainage issues. Grass that was there was high due to all the standing water and not being able to mow. I won't be returning.

Good prices and I have played a few times because it it local and not a bad course. Does get very dry in the summers and large cracks are in the fairway. I was HIGHLY disappointed in my last 18 holes here due to some man that I believe worked at the course. Ruined my back 9.... Here is the story.
To try and keep this story short, I was playing solo, drove on the 10th hole, grabbed my 7 iron, and all of a sudden this man drove up to me in the middle of the hole and is asking me if the 3 gentlemen behind me could play through. He said they play quickly so I'll be able to take my time AND there is no one behind them. So I said sure and moved over so they could play though.
I ended up waiting on this 3 some every single hole afterward AND there was another solo behind me.
By the time I'm on the 13th hole, the same guy comes back to me as I am about to chip complaining to me about the solo behind me. This just seems rude that he is now interrupting me for seemingly nothing...
I feel as though this man just ruined my game to make a better game to the 3 some of men that WERE behind me. Idk if they were complaining about me but i play READY GOLF and can finish 18 holes in 3 hrs or less...

Played today and the greens and fringe were awesome, the best I've ever seen here. BUT the fairways for the most part are full of craters. We lost a ball in one of them on #4 almost twisted my ankle on a couple more. This is really the only problem which could be eliminated with a lot of sand spread on all the fairways. This place is terrible. To start the prices are WAY over priced. You’re going to tell my my friend “that isn't playing” has to pay $20 to sit in the golf cart is completely absurd. A group of teenagers were playing behind us when they didn’t pay and the marshal wants to come accuse us of not paying when we clearly did and had receipt's, of course tho he realized how he was in the wrong and let us play. After he let us go he continued to follow us around and harass us as we tried to continue to play. Other the the disgusting customer service the tee boxes were rock solid and the fairways were worse than my front yard. Will not be coming back. Needs a new owner.

I have been playing at Stone River for about two years now and over the past two years there have been INCREDIBLE improvements. The fairways on this golf course all season have been maintained beautifully. The greens that I first played on at this course and play on now are not even the same. This staff of Stone River have done an incredible job not only maintaining but improving this place. It is comforting to know that as I pay to play here (which is extremely reasonable) my money is actually being used and stewarded well.

1st time playing the course and I have to say it was in better condition than expected. Some of the tee boxes were being renovated which was nice to see. Looks like they are trying to make improvements throughout the course. I'm use to the busy crowded dfw courses and drove 1 hour to see what it was like. I played in 3 hours on a weekday. Not bad at all. It's a bit of a drive but I'm sure to be back. Only complaint is the greens are a bit slow. They do roll true though. Small flex with the scorecard pic.

2nd time out to this course. The first time there were 4 temporary greens. This time we showed up 1.5 hours early and the range and putting green were closed. Tee Boxes were about 5 ft. wide. The greens were the slowest that we’ve played all year. 5 different times we had to wait on mowers (mid-day). Probably won’t be back. Too much of a goat pasture for quality play. Not to mention it took 5.5 hours on a non-holiday Monday. This will probably be our last time out to Stone River. The ⭐️ ⭐️ is merely for the quality of service. Super nice folks with a less than favorable course.

Probably my worst experience golfing. Tee boxes were almost unplayable. They were set up in between where the normal tee boxes looked like they should be. They were on uneven ground and looked to have aerated. If the tee boxes were being redone, that should have been posted. A handful of greens had dead patches and most greens were unpredictable. We paid full price for a course that was in terrible shape. There was no starter so groups we’re teeing off when ever they felt like it, causing pace of play issues. One of the guys in our group got food poisoning form the burger he ordered at the grill. I will not be coming back to play here and regret spending my money here.

I wish they had10 or 12 minute tee times instead of 7 1/2 and 8 minute tee times. The beverage cart girls make up for all of it though. They are approachable and courteous and very professional! Abbey and Emma Jane are the best!

My Children, my Dad, and Myself just finished a round here. It was top notch service. Jacob couldn't have been more accommodating or friendly. Trecia was also as friendly as possible. The course was in great condition fairways, greens, and the tee boxes were all in great shape. We will definitely be back!!!

Awful course conditions. Tee boxes uneven and all dirt. Fairways have more hard packed dirt then grass. Greens dry with almost no actual grass. Course needs some serious maintenance.

I've seen cow pastures that had better grass coverage. Complete neglect!
That is the only way that the "fairways" could end up that way. And I found myself completely lost as to which way you were supposed to hit from the tee boxes.
DO NOT USE (GOLF NOW) TO BOOK THIS COURSE!!! They claim that they only have 2 tee times that they give to golf now. So I paid on the app. Yet still had to pay once I got there. They say that golf now is only holding my payment & it will be returned to my bank...... We shall see. I worry that this is a scam for them to collect the fees twice. This is only a suspicion of mine. I'll know soon.

Went on a Sunday afternoon. When we showed up our tee time that we paid to reserve on golf now was no where to be found. I play plenty of public courses around DFW but this one was by far the slowest. Got off the first tee at 2:00 when tee time was at 1:35. Tee boxes and fairways were in horrible shape. Only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because greens were nice and consistent

Concrete greens, non existent fairway, and you need a drill to get your tee into most tee-boxes. The range sucks and management is extremely rude every time I’ve been. I’ve given it a go for the last time. Hell there’s a 9 hole municipal course down the road which is in better condition and better managed than this place. Ever seen Bob Does Sports Links at Victoria video on YouTube? Links at Victoria would rival this place in its current condition.

Tried this course a few times over a year. There is nothing good about this course. Bad tee boxes, hard as concrete greens, and cracks in fairways that you can lose a ball in.

Been golfing here with my dad for more than a year on an almost-weekly basis, and it's coming along great. It was a bit rough after the winter weather last year (understandably), but it's in pretty good shape now and an enjoyable experience to walk 18. Mrs. T is kind and helpful and actually helped us sign up for a new membership with them. It's a great course to play if you're relatively inexperienced or new to the game as well; there can be some challenges but it doesn't feel prohibitively punishing or unforgiving.

Went to this place, the clubhouse smelt like cigarettes and it clearly makes sense because the owner had a cigar in his hand, employees were clearly treated poorly, Kirk, was VERY rude and antagonizing. The place looked nothing like in the photos, the old lady at the desk was very rude. It would be more worth your time and money to drive 10 more miles to a better golf course. I will not come back here ever again and If I could rate this lower than 1 star I would.

Course marshall was with his buddies behind my wife and I this morning. After they hit between and past us for the third time in 4 holes, I picked up their ball and threw it in a pond. Course marshall charged up and told me to replace their ball or leave the course. I followed him to the clubhouse and told the young guy my side. Bottom line we left no refund. Course Marshall's job is to keep things like that from happening. Vote with your money. They won't get any from me again.

I honestly don’t understand why there are so many reviews saying the course looks great. This course is probably the worst course I have ever played. The staff is very nice, don’t get me wrong, except that older lady that works at the front desk. She is very rude. Almost all of the tee boxes are so hard that I have to use a rock to get my tee in the ground. The course has massive craters in the fairways. The greens look like spray painted dirt, and have the same consistency as concrete. I used to play this course with my dad years ago before they built a neighborhood in the middle of the course, and I remember it being much nicer back then, not to mention the awesome cheeseburgers that they no longer serve. Sad to see that the owner stopped putting money into the course. The course is very simple, pretty much straight shot on all of the holes, but would not recommend playing here if you are looking for a decent course to play. I hate to say it, but it wasn’t even worth the 25$.

Solid course. Appreciate the work on the fairways.
Get no spin on the greens, but that’s okay.
Gets a bit too crowded sometimes and the carts run low.
It’s solid. Not a top tier but it’ll do and I think that’s what they are going for.

Level the ground on the Tee Boxes.

I agree with Isaac. Not sure how there are so many good reviews when this course was terribly maintained. Tee boxes were trash ( half were in the fairway ). Greens were super slow and mainly dirt. Couldn’t tell where the fairway ended and greens started half the time. Staff was very friendly and liquor selection was fine but definitely won’t be back.

Friendly staff. Not a great course to teach beginners on. I played golf in HS and went to state. I went to this course to teach my little brother how to golf. I would recommend going to the driving range (irons only) to practice, and not paying for the course if you are with a beginner. The staff was very friendly, and helped us get set up at the driving range.

Decent track but I was playing with my dad and our friend. Our cart died on number one (9:45 tee time so you'd think the cart hadn't been used yet). We took off our bags and started walking, I called the pro shop to let them know and they said they'd send out a cart. After walking 1-4, called the pro shop again and again they said they'd send out a cart. On 5 told the cart girl what was going on and she also said she'd tell the pro shop. After walking the entire front 9, went into the pro shop and told them we'd called twice and told the cart girl (at this point we could see where we left our cart on 1, it had been picked up); they couldn't offer an explanation or even a good lie. The bad lie they offered was that they'd "sent someone out and they couldn't find you". We were literally the only people walking on the golf course... so no, they didn't send anyone out to find us. After finally getting our cart and heading to the back 9, our friend we were playing with was still in the shop buying beer, and heard them saying how they didn't care, wouldn't have sent a cart even if they'd had one, and that they sent out the cart that died on us with another group, it had once again died, and they weren't going to send out a cart to get them. Couldn't give less than one star. Won't be back again.

I like the layout of the course but even from the tips it is really short. Don't expect great greens as they were really slow and bumpy. They need to roll them and they would be so much better. Some of them are pretty small and have funky undulations so beware. Good amount of water too be a challenge but not over the top. Really small practice greens for puting and chipping but they were in good shape. Don't expect to hit balls before the round unless you want to drive way out to the 12th hole for a very short range.

I just wanted to express my sincere disappointment in this club. My husband and I have called on numerous occasions and the lady in the clubhouse who answers the phone is ALWAYS rude. Her attitude has, unfortunately, steered us in another direction. We were considering a membership, but the last phone call to set up a tee time was so incredibly rude and uncalled for that it has deterred us from this decision. If the first person you encounter and most of the time on a golf course, the only person, is nasty it doesn’t make for good business. The course itself is a fine place to play, but she has left us with a bad taste in our mouths for the last time. I do hope she is able to find healing, as nobody is that bitter that isn’t suffering.
