Major L gym. Closing down with less than a month notice, no email notice either. Employees were best aspect of it. Corporate clearly making bad choices. A true tragedy. Major personal physical, emotional, and mental gains were made at this location but alas. Texas family fitness Allen will be missed dearly. Not corporate though.

This gym club is closing on Aug, 8th...we have to give our 30 days notice, still...and they've already started moving gym equipment away...even trashcans... cancelled my membership, and don't care about any other locations. Been a customer for > 2yrs...totally dissapointed. Unprofessional, bad management.

The Allen location is closing and forcing long time members to jump thru hoops to cancel their memberships. They want us to drive miles out of the way to use an alternate location.

Worth customer service ever. After a couple of month I canceled my membership I noticed that they are still charging me. They justified it by saying that membership was canceled only for me and I never canceled it for my wife. I went to their location in Allen and canceled membership for my wife as well but they still charge me.

Super high turnover on personal trainers as soon as you get in a groove with a trainer, they quit.

Lots and lots of problems with billing. They accidentally billed us twice for a $289 personal training package and said they couldn't give us a credit even though it was their error. They kept giving me the runaround. I ended up having to dispute it with our credit card company but it took two months to resolve! My husband signed up for a personal training package and it was supposed to be for only three months as advertised but ended up getting billed two more months before we caught it. They would not reverse the charges and again I had to dispute it with the credit card company which took two months.

Kids club is not recommended. They put on the TV immediately instead of trying to engage the kids or getting them to climb on the indoor jungle gym at a GYM. They also show stuff like Hotel Transylvania to toddlers! Not appropriate. I complained and the manager talked to the kids club babysitters but they still continued to put that show on and other inappropriate shows for toddlers on. I had to tell them to change it everytime my kid went there. I also picked my kid up on more than one occasion with a dirty diaper! They hadn't even called me!

Machines are old and the place is run down and not the cleanest. Nobody wipes the machines down when they're done. Hardly any group classes. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!

D C's review is spot on. Canceled back in January, continued being billed in February and now again in March. When I called they said we signed a 1-year contract, which is entirely untrue and they allowed us to cancel back in January not a problem. Upon cancellation, they informed us we had one more month to pay and use the facilities, which is exactly what we expected. We've since continued being charged and I called and they were entirely unhelpful saying that I needed "a receipt" for my cancellation from them. I called their corporate number and left a message but have not yet heard back. I am entirely upset at this whole process. I learned my lesson years ago to sign contracts with gyms and would never have done so.

I come to this gym and one other gym. About 2-3 times each gym every week. Texas family fitness Allen is a good gym. The staff is nice but it feels like the equipment is older and never cleaned. It feels very outdated. The biggest thing for me is that they have an old drinking fountain and nowhere to refill water bottles. I’ve never been to a gym that doesn’t have a water bottle filler. Would love to see this gym get some updates.

I have read a lot of the staffing and billing issues people have had. Has all of this been cleared up because I don’t want to have these problems either and no I did not check with the BBB? Everything and everyone has been very helpful and friendly!

A ghetto gym, with shady billing practices, and absentee management pretty much sums up my experience. Don't sign the contract, and don't give them your card information. Look at their bad reviews because most of them are true. Please leave them a 1 star review if you haven't already. Don't believe me yet? I added a photo of their rating on BBB. It's at F by the way. Mr. regional manager, you sir are a failure and a loser.

When asked how to cancel the staff will tell you everything but. Sure it's part of the "job" to give you the spiel and try to get you to stay - fine I get that. But to not accept a "no thank you" is just unprofessional. If you are looking for a basic cheap gym this will do the trick, but expect NO bells or whistles. Dirty, outdated, and always too warm.

Janet always greets me in the morning during the week. The downfall is the weekend staff. They seem to be into their phones and only greet you if they know you. I do think the weekend hours need to be extended. They no longer have ESPN, CBS or FOX so basically no sports anymore. There are no fans so it can be really uncomfortable when you're working out

Gym is spacious and full of equipment. A lil gloomy inside but they have everything. The women bathroom/ locker room tho. Old and outdated. Lockers are great but showers are old, broken tiles, mildew, shower heads that are ancient and the handicap shower head doesn't work at all. A $10 fix that I reported a year ago.. nothing done!

Bad billing practices. Failure to cancel membership, when paperwork was submitted. Do not give these people your payment info. Paperwork to cancel the account, with account number, was submitted in February. This branch failed to cancel all names on the account, or notify us that we needed to do so. The contract we signed makes no mention of needing to cancel each name as long as the account is terminated. Both names are on the same account number, hence, the same account.

BEWARE. Visit the Better Business Bureau (bbb.org) and do a search for Texas Family Fitness before you consider signing up with this gym.

I joined the gym on 5/27 and purchased 2 months of personal training with them billing my credit card on file. After my 2 month commitment I continue training on month by month basis. Late November, the trainer I was using left the company and I decided that I would quit my personal training. I went into the gym on Dec 2 to quit and sign paperwork (electronically). Kris, another personal trainer, assisted. I had just been charged for December. Around this same time, my credit card on file was compromised and I had to cancel it. The gym was billing me monthly for my gym membership that I was paying by check. There was not any mention of physical fitness trainer so I assumed that my cancellation was successful.

On 3/05/21, I added my new CC to pay for my monthly dues to avoid any late fees. As soon as I did this, I was charged for 3 months of personal training just shy of $900. I am on Medicare with a tight budget and cannot afford this. I called the gym immediately and they informed me I had not canceled previously even though I signed their electronic controller. They say that they (gym) cannot do anything about the charges, that I would need to contact corporate. Surprisingly I was able to get in touch with someone at corporate who was obviously screening calls. They wanted to know if this is a new problem or a older one greater than 2-3 months. Not sure why this mattered. The person I was speaking with was not authorized to do anything other than pass my name and number to someone else in the organization. They noted that it would be at least 7-10 days before someone would call me back. What kind of customer service is this? The manager at the gym tried contacting corporate on my behalf but they will not return their phone calls as well. Customer service is not high on their priority list.

Unfortunately, I did not do my research before signing up. Better Business grades all of their gyms with a β€œF”. BBB states that due to the volume of complaints received against this company, that they only post 30% of the complaints. My issue is very similar to many of the complaints posted. What they are doing is robbery. BEWARE...stay away.

I canceled my membership in February and my wife canceled in August. We tried to call to cancel bc of the pandemic and was informed that we have to go in to cancel. So we went in with both accounts in person and canceled. I remember well bc they tried to get me to keep my account open but I had only used it twice and it was too expensive so I canceled. They said we had to pay the last month which I paid in full right then and my wife’s came out the following month. Fast forward to now and they are still taking money from our account. When we call they told us they are not receiving money from us and to call the bank. We call the bank and confirm that they are in fact taking money from our account and try to call back to speak to the manager who they tell us they can not find and do not know where he is. So we call back after lunch and they tell me that bc I didn’t sign a paper when I came in to cancel that my account is not canceled when I ask to speak to the manager again they tell me he is on lunch.
Tell me why on earth I would need to sign a paper if they confirmed with me that my account was closed when I came in there in person and had to pay a charge to close it?? If I had to sign the paper, why didn’t they ask me to do that? And how do you have it on your files that I canceled in February and my wife in August but somehow tell me that my account is not actually canceled bc I didn’t sign a paper?
And then when on the phone with Cecilia she says I’m accusing her and saying it her fault. No what I’m saying is it’s Texas Family Fitness’s fault. Not you personally. They have a random email that I’ve never even heard of on my account and refuse to take the blame for something that is so very obviously the fault of the business. You have dates documented in the system from when we came in but yet did not actually cancel and continued to charge us for months!! And I tried to call corporate but of course they a not available as well. I hate to say it but this sounds like a fishy scam to get money from people.

I came into this gym on a guest pass looking to get a full membership during corona.
When I walked in no one was at the front desk checking people in. Everyone at the gym WAS NOT WEARING A MASK and half the people didn’t sanitize the equipment. It’s crazy how during a pandemic we can still have businesses be irresponsible with the public health. Not to mention it’s mandated in the state to wear a mask in public places.

No temperature check. No one wearing masks. No gloves. No responsible staff.

0/5 stars if I could. Go down the street there are 2 other gyms that offer more sanitary practices (one is the same price the other is 30/month)

My husband and I have been going here since June of 2018. It was a nice and simple gym, the staff was fantastic and my daughter enjoyed the staff on kids club. However, over the last few months, the staff has become unfriendly and unprofessional. They are constantly on their phones, walking around on the floor talking to whomever. The equipment is constantly broken. Four of six upright stationary bikes are broken (and have been for months) and one of the two that is left wobbles badly. The belts on several of the treadmills are ripped, and I almost fell after I got on one not realizing it was ripped. The kids club staff during the week is pretty good and friendly. The weekend kids club staff is really just lazy and do not watch the children. They sit on the tables and we have seen other children carrying small babies around without the staff intervening. Also, we have had an issue with the children of the kids club staff hitting our child. Our daughter doesn't like going much anymore because it is uncomfortable. The bathrooms are okay at best. Two stalls of four are not usable and the soap is almost constantly out. It was not this way when we started here. We are in the process of looking for another gym. We have heard from several friends that the other Texas family fitness locations are not in the shape the Allen one is in which is really unfortunate because we did like this gym a lot when we started. But between the staff, equipment, and child care, it is not a worthwhile place to be anymore. There was no contact information on their website to email or call on my concerns either.

I moved to the Allen location to follow my personal trainer, Chavez. He is by far the best personal trainer I have EVER had. He pushes me but I want that. Chavez definitely knows his stuff. He listens to the goals I want to achieve through PT and sets a program to achieve those goals. In a few months I can see a great deal of progress.
The gym itself is no frills but has plenty of machines. I never have trouble getting a treadmill and there are plenty of machines as well. It is a great value for the monthly price. 100 lbs is a 100 lbs. I go to workout so TFF with the low monthly fee meets my needs.

I'm giving one star coz I can't give 0.. these people are there to make people fools. They will always overcharge you.. I signed up for 9$ and I was being charged $11.90 each month that was still okay but the time I joined, I confirmed 3 times that annual fees is $40 but after 45days they charged me $54. And when I asked them, guy who signed me up said he told me it's $49.99 which is a lie.. I confirmed three times and he said annual fees is only $40, but he denied that conversation. This gym is just not worth your business. I'm a student and I can't sign up without confirming the amount because I simply can't afford overpaying. But if u still wanna join this gym make sure you read amounts yourself on each paper before signing up, they tell u less and get signatures on more amount. They did same thing to my sister but I'm not gonna write that story..I just cancelled my membership today..I would rather pay more somewhere else, at least I would know how much I'm going to pay. JUST DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. ITS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.

Okay first off, the 9.99 a month flyer they send you in the mail is just to get you in the door. When i signed up they told me you can get the 9.99 a month but you have pay to
first and last month, i thought okay that seems reasonable. Turns out the monthly payment is 22.99, so the guy lied to me. I found out about it going through my bank statements. To me thats unethical, so i decide to go into the gym and cancel my membership simple, right? Well the guy behind the counter tried to sway me to stay by offering me the 9.99 plan. I said no, i just would rather cancel. He tried to say the guy who signed me up no longer works and that he's the new general manager. I said no, please cancel it. Then thats when the guy got all huffy and rude. Tried to say i did nothing to him and that I shouldn't be rude like that, wow seriously? At no point did i raise my voice or tell the guy to hurry up, i didn't argue with him, it wasn't worth it. I can only speak about my experience with this gym, I'm not sure if the other gyms are like the guys here.

I can never use any of the machines I want because kids are constantly using it and spending upwards of 15+ minutes per machine (while on their phone most of the time). While at TFF, I can use any of the machines I desire without waiting for the most part. The staff is very friendly and the front desk workers always make me welcome. The trainers are exceptional. If you go to this gym I would recommend investing some money into personal training. It is much better than simply working out on your own because you can have a professional personally guide you along through workouts catered for yourself. The gym is always clean and they have everything I need to workout. I would recommend this gym to anyone who wants a clean, friendly, and stress free environment.

Was laid off and cancelled my membership because I couldn't afford it...they just took the payment and would not refund it nor would they refund the month they make you prepay. Guess your only family when you pay them. πŸ˜–

As good of a family gym as you can ask for. The lifting equipment is sturdier than Fitness Connection down the street and much nicer gym rats.

I've worked out here off an on for a few years because they are the cheapest place in town and I can walk to it from home. The equipment is generally sub-par, the barbells and dumbells are weak and worn out, there is only one power rack which is flimsy, the benches are all set at a weird, almost unusable bar height, the weight area is NEVER ORGANIZED WHATSOEVER, all of the machines whether cardio or weight are poorly maintained and out of order machines are often never marked or fixed, and the amount of less than useful weight machines vastly dominates the weight area.

The staff is friendly but the trainers are absolutely clueless. If you are new to fitness, please skip getting training here, just do research outside of the gym with the multitude of resources online (reddit, youtube, eliteFTS, etc) and bring that knowledge into your workouts yourself. The members are a mixed bag but generally polite enough.

The music is a mix of 70's-80's pop and top 40 dance mixes. If you enjoy that then more power to you.

Overall, it's a cheap, convenient place to work out in. I would recommend it to a friend, just don't expect to get more than you pay for.

The gym has plenty of exercise equipment for every type of athlete. Tons of cardio machines including elliptical, stair climbers, treadmills, etc. Lots of strength training equipment. I'm currently paying close to $15 a month so that's not bad at all. My only gripe is that some of the equipment is starting to show signs of heavy wear/tear which is expected but there's no excuse to leave cracked padding on machines for so long. It starts to hurt after a while. Recommended.

My wife and I have been at Texas Family Fitness for just over a year now and have been very pleased with the facilities and staff.
We started out with personal training and found the staff of trainers to be very concerned to provide the best experience possible and encouraging but also caring about the individual as well.
Dee (our personal trainer) is concerned with our complete well being not just the strength conditioning, but diet and healthy living as well. His goal is to help you get to your goals through exercise, strength training and healthy diet. He is always helping us balance our lifestyle to achieve the goals we have set. I would highly recommend personal training and Dee at Texas Family Fitness.

This his a wonderful facility. Occasionally one or two pieces of equipment will be down, but is always back on the next visit.
My only problem is sanitation. There are signs asking members to wipe down equipment after use, hardly ever happens.
I think that it is up to the trainers to teach new members the proper sanitation. The problem is that they never mention it to anyone. Also they do not practice sanitation procedures themselves.
No one in there right mind wants to use equipment that is dirty and sweaty. I am forced to clean the equipment before and after I use it.With all of the diseases , colds, flu going around you would think they would be diligent however , after talking to managers and emailing the home office it is very clear that they just do not care.

I was lied to and the staff didn't provide me enough information when I signed up (4/22/16) at Texas Family Fitness in Allen, Texas. I ended up paying $104.14 initial fee for a family of 4. During that time, I informed the staff that I have 2 more sons that I will eventually add to the plan in May. Late April, my step-son moved in with us so we went ahead and add him to the plan. At that time, my husband ended up paying $102.82 just to add his son to the plan. The same staff member told my husband that we would save a lot of money if we were to add him to the plan when we signed up. UMMM...you should of told us then when you knew that we will be adding 2 more soon. I was not happy and I felt cheated and ripped off by the gym. I sent a letter to the corporate office and was followed up by the gym manager. He said that he won't be able to do anything about it.

Then May 2, I found out that I have a payment due of $125 for the monthly due and the annual fee of $25/per member. I was confused and went to the gym and spoke to the same manager, he explains that every year they charge their member an annual fee of $25/per member and that the fee was not applied to the initial fee only after the 25 days from the sign up date. Ugh! Really? Seriously? What other fees that you didn't enclose during the time that we signed up?!

Immediately, we decided right there and then that we want to cancel our membership. He spent 30 minutes explaining that it wasn't fair that we didn't receive the info first hand. Of course, he apologizes but really can't do anything about it because the business is privately owned.

And based on the reviews from their previous employees, the main complaints are that the staff are very conniving and would do anything to cheat their customers in order to get pay....quote, "They treat you terribly and they lie and steal from their customers." Another quote, "Management does not appear to care about members only their payments."

I would like to share my experience with Texas Family Fitness to you so you won't fall into their trap. Please also note that they are not BBB accredited (Better Business Bureau) and they have received many complaints and the corporate office will not and have not done anything about it. Oh, there are only 3 people running the corporate office.

If you have the same experience I would advice that you would post your experience so others will not be cheated and have this business go out of business. We don't need businesses like them to be in our community so they can take advantage of our local business support.

Have to agree with the other posts. This is a great club until you try to cancel. I've tried to cancel twice and they still have not proceeded with the right steps. Plus the customer service is terrible when you try to do so. They make you call a separate number only to be constantly transferred and ignored. It sucks because I enjoy working out at this gym but I can't because I'm moving away.

Its a gym, plain and simple. Unfortunately the staff can't be bothered to properly stack to weights. Weight stations are a mess. Some are loaded with only 45 lb plates, while others are a hodgepodge of 5s and 10s, with a single 25. Having to go fetch your own weights isn't a big complaint, but it is not the mark of a 4 or 5 star gym.

I've been member for about 3 years there, and I liked it, but new management does not take care of equipment. We pay yearly fee for upkeep, yet they will not replace broken equipment on time. Pull up machine had a handle rubber torn for last 2 months. I have asked repeatedly different "managers" and staff to get it fixed, to no avail. Every time there is an excuse, they show the piece as just having arrived, and it will be installed next day, but next day never comes. Shame on them.

We love it here! 3 or more members of our family have had memberships here for YEARS! We love the family feel offered by the smaller gym. And the location is perfect! Through the years, as the staff and trainers shift or turnover, of course there's a little change in the "feel" of things. But they always pick the friendly feel back up again. The morning staff is particularly friendly and supportive. We have employed MANY of their personal trainers over the years and have never been disappointed- they are very knowledgeable and teach you and encourage you on attaining your goals, whether for weight loss, toning, or injury rehabilitation. We had one issue with Billing when we needed to remove one of our family members from the account as she had moved away. We were told we needed to contact their corporate office to remove her, which we did, and she was removed. We were charged for that month and then she was off the bill. Texas Family Fitness is a great gym!

They will try to make it as hard as possible to cancel. They had me sit down and meet with someone in person to discuss why I wanted to cancel. They would not let me cancel over the phone, internet or mail. They continued to charge money after canceling, sending the bill to collections which contacted me about it years later. If it isn't criminal it's at least predatory. This sort of behavior should not be supported with anyone's business.

This Club is good till you try to cancel your membership!! My wife and I moved, so I went in with her and watched her fill out the paperwork to cancel her membership. Yet she was still getting charged a few months later, she called back and asked what was going on. They told her her contract wasn't done yet so had to still pay, but told her could pay a one time fee to cancel it, which would of cost ore then just paying till end. So she called back now a year later to make sure they will not be charging her. They tell her she is now month to month and cant cancel over phone. She tells them she already filled out paper work when moved. The lady tells my wife that she doesn't have the paperwork anymore. How is that my wife's fault? Then lady says its not her problem. Great customer service at this place!!!! But as you can see from other reviews this is pretty common with this place. So maybe cheap but you pay for what you get!!!

This is a warning to anyone who joins Texas Family Fitness. They will take your money and then they will do whatever is possible to keep it at all costs. DO NOT SIGN UP HERE. I went in to look at the new location in WEST FRISCO. The general manager Tim Spicer was very disrespectful.... Another manager named David Amsler is very deceiving as well... I have a family member who worked for the company.. The company's district manager name is Brooks Johnson. He brags about how much money he makes a year in his meetings with his employees. He belittles them and tries to bully them as well... They do not care about your health or your fitness.. The only thing they are concerned with is how they can take your money, and how they can make a bonus off of you... Managers get a percentage of the club enhancement fee that is charged once a year. You are told that the club enhancement fee is for any new equipment or any maintenance that is needed. This is a company that is more concerned about the profit they make off of you... Not customer service oriented.. Not friendly... If you sign up for personal training... Make sure you cancel it within 72 hours or it is non-refundable.... BEWARE... If you spend 3000 dollars on personal training... You will lose that money even if you don't use a single session after 72 hours....

I checked out numerous fitness clubs around Allen before deciding on Fitness Express. My requirements were that they have an area for kids as I have a 3 and 8 year old and my husband works long hours. I also wanted a variety of cardio equipment and a few options for classes to mix it up. The price here is outstanding for what you get. There is a variety of equipment and a lot of it. You won't have to wait for machines. It is relatively clean. there is a good mix of older people and younger high school age kids. The staff is courteous and efficient. The kids area is not open 24-7. It has specific hours but ones that should most peoples needs. They have a variety of classes you can take to mix it up, I like the Define class with Lisa as I find it a challenging mix of cardio with weights. I have not worked with any personal trainers there so i cannot comment on that. I don't notice any creepy employees there staring at the clients but there are a few clients that like to check out the females but that happens anywhere. Overall I am pleased.
