I cancelled my membership due to finding a better powerlifting gym and had the better stuff that was cheaper.This is more of a body builder gym. Paid the amount to get out of the contract. Now I’m looking at another notification from my bank telling me they set this huge amount to auto payment instead of a one time payment. When I called I was told that they would get back to me. Which I am pretty sure will be after the money withdrawals. I’m so angry.

Contagion Athletics has the space, equipment variety, and potential to be a top-tier gym, but it is falling short in several key areas. The equipment needs better upkeep, with torn and exposed pads on multiple machines and that do not run smoothly under heavier weight. The atmosphere has also become less professional, with kids playing around, pets being tied to benches, and even cars being revved inside, raising legitimate safety and air quality concerns. Long-term members are frustrated as well since constant specials bring in new crowds while loyal, full-price members face overcrowding. Even the restrooms are hit or miss, with hand dryers, soap dispensers, and sinks often not working consistently. With stronger management, stricter safety standards, and routine maintenance, this could be a fantastic gym again, but right now it needs real attention.

Unfortunately, I have to write a new review. Due to job changes I had to move back to Dallas and though I was told to sign a cancellation form and that my membership would be cancelled, instead I had been charged all the months since the move. Horrible experience, I’m now having to reach out to my bank to be the ones that can prevent reoccurrences of this. Really, really bad customer service and this is coming from someone who when I lived in Amarillo was literally their like everyday. Can’t recommend this gym anymore with service like this.

SIX-MONTH UPDATE:
What I've learned over the past six months is, doctors treat illnesses. They tell you eat a sensible diet and exercise, but they don't tell you what that actually looks like in real life and what it takes. I am a clean eater and a small eater. So my weight gain has been baffling. The fact that they wanted to prescribe a med/shots that at the end of the day only suppresses the appetite tells me they didn't believe me :(

Fast forward to six months ago when I started training with Coach Xavier of Contagion Athletics. What I thought I knew about health, the human body, physiology, and exercise has been blown up...tossed out. I knew nothing. Coach X listened to me. He listened to what my daily life looks like. He processed everything he heard, and he developed a customized program for me that has produced amazing results. He has changed my relationship with food, exercise, and sleep. He has advocated consistency and mental mindset. We are now in week 24, and I have lost 24 lbs :). I am building muscle and losing fat at the same time which tells him my metabolism has awakened.

I HIGHLY recommend Coach X, and please take to heart that a coach who holds a Bachelor's of Science in Sports and Exercie Science degree is NOT the same as one that holds a fly-by-night paper certificate that can be obtained in a couple weeks. They.are.not.the.same.

This journey has required a partnership with my coach. He can give me the keys to the Queendom, but I have to do my part to claim it as my own.

This is simply the best investment I have ever made in myself🙌 Don't ever feel bad about prioritizing yourself. Prioritizing one's self is the ultimate flex.

More than a gym...to me, Contagion Athletics is an elite sports training facility catering to every fitness level and busy "life" schedule of their clientele providing 24/7 access.

The founder has invested in and continues to invest in state-of-the-art equipment...literally, there is something for EVERYONE including an indoor track and a training turf field! The addition of the recovery room featuring single-person saunas, a cold plunge, and massage chairs for those aching muscles is absolutely luxe.

I realized this year that in order to reach my weight goal and improve my overall health, fitness, and strength that I needed to partner with one of their coaches. I needed someone to push me beyond my comfort zone, and Coach X who holds a Bachelor's in Sports and Exercise Science from WTAMU has done just that!

I am super excited because I am only a week and a half in, and I am already seeing results as Coach X educates me on body mechanics and as he assists me in rebuilding and strengthening my body.

The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They are more like Ohana than "staff."

Love that the women's locker room has an inspirational Post-it quote vanity; so that as you see your reflection in the mirror, you are surrounded by all of these beautiful inspirational quotes that the women before you have left behind in order to lift others up.

If you are looking for a place that is more than just "equipment," this is your place...this place is your Ohana.

Dropped in for a day as I was traveling and looking for something better than a hotel gym (i.e. a place with a barbell and squat rack at the very least but bonus if there was more).

Pros: gym was awesome and did not disappoint in terms of available equipment . 10 squat racks with one side of 5 all for squatting, the other side of 5 all for benching. 5 deadlift platforms. Correct bars for everything! Like the deadlift platforms had true deadlift bars, the squat racks had true squat bars, etc. A powerlifter’s dream. More cable racks for upper body things across from the row of 5 squat racks. A free weight section. Lots of cool equipment like glute ham raise, etc. A huge turf training spot with box jump padded cubes, kettlebells, sleds, resistance bands, all kinds of things. A dodge viper to look at. Upstairs track. It was easy enough to drop in and do my workout. No one bothered me or micromanaged me. The front desk person was very nice. Other regular members seemed very friendly. Signs everywhere to rack your weights or you’d be charged (hate it when people don’t rerack their plates!). Super clean, organized gym.

Cons: it was $27 for a one time drop in fee, so I only came once and then just made do with the limited hotel gym after that (I was staying in the area for 3 days). I thought I had read the gym was 24 hours and a 24 hour pass was $20 and when I asked about it sounds like they changed their policy. I was so paranoid that I would forget to wipe down equipment or not put something back just right that I’d be charged that $50 fee (didn’t happen though). There are huge windows by the row of squat racks, so if you come in the afternoon, you may get hot with the sun shining in.

Overall a cool spot to get a workout in while you’re passing through, but prepared for the price if you want to come back more than one time. Definitely would seriously consider this gym rather than a commercial chain gym if I lived here.

Contagion is a beautiful gym. I’m visiting from California and wanted to get a quick workout in after work. I have to say there’s nothing like this in California and if there is, it would be miserable to get a work out in. Here I had the most fun workout of my life. So thankful for this gym. I have been a member at the town club, verdure, 806 fit, WTAMU gym and a few others in town and by far and large does Kevin have the best gym when it comes to equipment, the amount of equipment, the layout, space, the open design, and the real community connection that many other gyms can’t compare to have or provide. The gym is awesome! I had some major changes to my life and departed but I'll tell you this: the gym has everything you need FOR 24 HOURS. Not alot of gyms have that luxury, the equipment is great, there isn't obnoxious crowding like other gyms, and the owner is very knowledgeable in dieting and workouts to get you into the best shape possible. He also has other coaches and he makes sure they are qualified prior to coaching others. Cost is pretty reasonable. Remember you are paying for the highest quality and for full 24 hour access. If you're at Verdure just for the name, you are definitely missing out on Contagion Athletics.

Best gym in Amarillo. They’ve got tons of power racks and deadlift platforms, along with about 60 machines. Because half of the power racks double as cable machines, they’ve got about 15 cable hookups which is more than any other place in town as far as I can tell. Staff are very invested in their jobs, friendly, and willing to help if you’ve got questions.

The Gym of all gyms!!! When they say they are the fitness Mecca of Texas they mean it!! A great gym for working out. Wonderful space and equipment, with a running track and an AstroTurf field. Have been a member since June 2020 and have enjoyed the facility ever since. My only complaint is the music played which is rap with some nasty lyrics. There has to be other gym music available to use! Have mentioned the music to staff but nothing has changed.

Honest Review! (Literally writing after my workout in the parking lot lol)

PROS- First thing the gym is really chill and nice for the time slot i was working out. Barely anyone there nice and quiet with ALOT OF ROOM! 24/7 is amazing! So much equipment and exercise equipment to fit anyones needs. Has a decent cafe for pre and post workout nutrition. And a BARBERSHOP! (IF YOUR INTO THAT IN YOUR GYM NECESSITIES)

Cons- PRICE!!! My next comments will go into why i disagree with the price… NO DAYCARE! This was a deal breaker for me. If you don’t have kids you’re clear. $80 for a single membership is kinda crazy considering the lack of fitness amenities. And that’s just the single membership excluding any fees. They have announced that a recovery center is on the way and that would honestly steer me toward being ok with the membership price. But once that recovery center is implemented the MEMBERSHIP WILL GO UP! 🤦🏽‍♂️ Lastly…BARBERSHOP! Lol it’s just a personal thing but a barbershop is unnecessary for MY gym needs. I feel that space could have been better utilized.

All in all it is a very nice gym but not at a $80 single membership price point. Lack of amenities and daycare just kills any desire to spend that amount monthly.

CA is absolutely the best gym in the Amarillo area, if you want a gym that has the highest quality facilities and equipment along with having a cafe to grab a drink or snack, a detail shop with a highly experienced detailer, and an owner that puts on huge events for the community, this is the gym for you. I have been going to Contagion Athletics for around 11 months and have never once had a “bad” experience, the desk staff is always friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. The gym is nice, but no hot tub, pool, or amenities like that. They just added a sauna/steam room.
I like that they were not crowded, but you pay a premium for that. Overpriced for equipment you can get anywhere else.
My main complaint is that the contract auto renewed and locks you into another year instead of going monthly after the first year with zero notifications. I tried to cancel membership about a month after the renew happened that I wasn't aware of via online chat, it said I had to call, so I did. The person I talked to said I would have to talk to a manager, that never called me back. I called back again a week or so later when I remembered and had to await for another call back. He called back the next day this time, but slightly argued about the renewal and tried to make me pay for the whole year for cancellation. After some discussion, they canceled for me. Keeping and eye on my bank account though since I was told last time that it would be no problem, but was continually charged. They did not offer to compensate for the lost months. Gym was nice, if simple, but not impressed with the service and policies.

I haven’t been here in almost a year (and did guest passes when I came). Absolutely love this place and everything here! Love the crew as well. I wish there was one of these in Houston where I’m at. It’s always nice to visit in when I’m in Amarillo! Can’t wait till next time I’m here!

We were in town visiting for Thanksgiving and visited CA for a day pass. It’s a big gym with many selections and clean . Overall my experience was great and I enjoyed my time there. Front desk was very friendly! Cant wait to be back !

It was an amazing and stylish place. You can tell the owner is a gear head with the art work and viper parked on the turf in the main area. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Jaime was very welcoming. There was plenty of machines and weights with no wait time. I highly recommend this place.

Great Front Staff! Exemplifies customer service and professionalism. My family is moving and they made the process of canceling so easy. I have dealt with gyms that don't care about life events and suddenly/unexpectedly moving and are just money hungry. Not the case here, they worked with me and were very fair and udnerstanding.

They will not cancel you or subscription. I have asked them to cancel the membership 3 times over 3 months. They keep charging me, and they will not stop.

Phenomenal facility. Whenever my girl comes to get her hair done up here, this is the gym I'm gonna spend my waiting time at. She gets the volume in her hair, and I get the volume sets. Win-win.

First off, the gym is super clean, with brand new equipment . I’m a big fan of plate loaded machines, and they have plenty of them. They also have several power racks and platforms. When I move out here, this is the gym I want to work out at!!

Truly the Mecca. Best facilities, staff, and experience for someone who is truly there to workout in Amarillo. Equipment was updated multiple times during my membership there. The price is fair with the knowledge that you are paying for a community of like-minded individuals who are there to better themselves.

Staff was extremely smart and was able to answer any questions I ever had in regards to working out.

I haven't been this excited about a gym in over half a decade!

They know some of the best brand names in the business, they are open 24/7, and it's no frills fitness; meet your goals.

This place has it all:
Rogue bumper plates/bumpers/pads, Texas Strength Deadlift Bars, Assault Runner Treadmills, Arsenal Plate Loaded Machines, Dedicated Dumbbell room (with mirrors), bouncy track, a glute room, a private posing room, cable machines, indoor turf with sleds, Row machines, Wind Bikes and more than I can continue to list.

They are in a great location, plenty of parking, and have friendly members and staff.

This place truly is the Mecca and feels like my new gym home. Thanks contagion, y'all are awesome.

(Also they have a robot arm under the stairs, it hypes me up to lift harder.)

I stopped by for a day pass while in Amarillo. It is a big gym with a large selection of good equipment. CA is very clean. My biggest kudos goes to the fact that they were cleaning the turf with a big brush/vacuum machine. Overall my experience was excellent. This is a great bodybuilding gym and I’m sure it’s great for other areas of fitness.

The staff were all super welcoming and the kit + set up was some off the best I have ever used!

It really felt like a home away from home and let me train hard in a positive environment which I really appreciated. I even bought the t-shirt!

Very specious gym. Great for powerlifting or really any other kind of training. Very keen on all of the different rooms they have with a track upstairs and a half field downstairs. Only reason I give it 4 stars is the $20 for a day pass…
