I have been a member of the Yoga Institute for four months, and I am so happy to have found this studio. My experience with yoga classes has typically been either very basic, or so challenging it’s not remotely approachable for someone with an on again, off again practice (me… until now!). I have enjoyed every class and love the feeling of getting stronger and more confident in my practice. I also love that the small-ish size classes in the evenings allow for personalization and more opportunities to ask questions. It’s a casual, cozy vibe, and I love it.

I love the studio and instructors. I feel welcome, calm and alive before, during and after class. I especially enjoy the morning yoga classes but they offer classes all day. I have been going regularly or over 3 years and I highly recommend. It really helps me be at peace, and improves not only my mindset but my soul.

My husband and I have been attending classes at The Yoga Institute for about 2 years. We are both more physically fit and flexible because of our practice. The best part of this journey is the community of practioners that Kathryn Day has brought together. If you are looking for a place that meets you where you are and encourages your growth on your time, this is your place.

I’ve done yoga since the 70s and it’s rare to find a place that carries the traditional spiritual heart of yoga as well as having excellent teachers. I’m so happy to have found this studio.

My first impression was one of cleanliness and serenity, but this studio is so much more than the physical space. It's a place where all feel welcome, individual inner exploration is made easier and encouraged through a variety of practices, and meaningful relationships form naturally with other students. What's not to like about this place? The mind calms down, the body gets stronger and more flexible while I get to hang out with wonderful people! Much gratitude to Kathryn, all teachers and everyone I met there.

This has been everything I look for in a yoga studio, and then some. The classes are restorative yet strengthening, active yet peaceful. I always leave class feeling fulfilled, and am always encouraging others to attend. The studio is clean, and the owner / instructor is invested in her students. I highly recommend this studio.

Edit: I got a message from google asking me if I was still happy with my experience/review I left about a month ago. Weird. But the answer is yes! I edited the review to add a little more.

I don’t ever leave reviews but felt compelled to today while reflecting after my yoga class. This may be a long one, so buckle in!

I started classes back in Jan 2023 after I was in a car accident at the beginning of 2022. I was unable to walk properly or use my right arm much - I couldn’t even hold a pen to write for more than a minute. Physical therapy was only getting me so far after 10 months and I wanted more mobility and less pain as I was relying more and more on painkillers, and doctors were encouraging me to consider surgery. I had done some yoga in my early 20s - I’m almost 40 now (gulp!) so I decided to try again. I searched for studios that offered a beginner course so that my alignment and injuries could be accounted for and I could re-learn the foundations I had mostly forgotten. This was the only studio I found to offer a beginners series. I let the instructor know I had herniated discs in my neck and back, had regular pain and limited mobility.

The beginners series was invaluable for learning correct alignment and making sure I didn’t injure myself or aggravate my herniated discs. The instructor and owner of the studio, Kathryn, was amazing and provided a lot of modifications for the poses. After the beginners series I continued doing 1 class a week, working my way now up to at least 3 classes a week. There are lots of classes available during the mornings and evenings. They even have sunrise classes when I’m fast asleep haha. I attend classes in the evening to account for work (after 5pm).

Every instructor was made aware of my injuries and provided modifications when I needed them and encouraged me to try full poses when they felt I was strong enough. When adjusting my posture they would check in if the adjustment worked for my shoulders, hips, etc. If I had any pain. They also encouraged me to use the wide variety of props available at the studio. I really appreciate that they never lose focus on stability in the poses. And that no matter where you are in your yoga practice, everyone there (teacher and students alike) encourage each other to be proud of showing up on our mat. I also love that in the beginning of class most teachers ask us to reflect inwards and there have been some great conversations leading on from those reflections.

I am pain free and so much more mobile now. I was reflecting today on how far I have come in 9 months - I was unable to hold a plank in my first class and struggled with Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward dog). Today I am able to hold side planks, do chaturanga dandasana and working on kakasana (crow pose)!

Give this studio a try, especially if you’re a “beginner” or “intermediate” looking to improve your practice. The classes are small, the studio is clean and the instructors are a delight. I love chatting to everyone before and after class. It’s a lovely little community and honestly at times when I needed it most it felt like a little hug every time I walked into the studio.

Adding this: Please consider joining Eli Moran for strength training classes that are now being offered at The Yoga Institute. I recently went through two cycles of his classes, and I loved knowing my strength was increasing, and Eli made it fun. True inspiration for this 62 year old.
Wonderful classes. Great instructors. I would really encourage anyone wanting to learn more or advance in practice to talk to Kathryn about the wonderful opportunities they offer here.

Can’t say enough good things about this studio! Coming from a competitive background learning peace and direction in yoga practice took work, they made this challenge doable! I received incredible guidance, warm welcomes not only from the instructors but the other members by my side. The facility is clean and leaves a warm yet fresh vibe as soon as you walk in. I highly recommend The Yoga Institute to every walk of life. It truly feels like a home that I’m very thankful to find!

P.S. the chimes thing they ring at the end of class is LITERALLY the best!

I've been going to the Yoga Institute of Clear Lake since 2015. I LOVE this studio! The instructors are all fantastic and there are a wide variety of classes available at all times of the day. I like that it doesn't have an unfriendly, trendy vibe like a lot if other studios. I'd recommend this studio to anyone who is looking for a friendly group of down to Earth people who love to practice yoga with amazing instructors.

I was looking for a place to practice yoga while my son was at practice nearby. I found this place through a Google search and the class time worked perfectly with the time I needed to leave to pick him up. The studio was nice and open and the instructor was fine. There was only a Level 1 and level 2 to choose from on the calendar and this class was level 2 so I was hoping for a challenging vinyasa class. Unfortunately it wasn’t very challenging at all and the class ended a full 15 minutes past the time it said the class ended on the schedule. That seems extreme. Reading other reviews here, this seems to be routine.

Visiting Clear Lake area this week - discovered The Yoga Institute and their gorgeous new studio (no sign yet - just look for Suite G) Had two vinyasa classes with two instructors and both were excellent. Studio is large, appointed nicely with mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters, etc. It has great natural light as well and parking is ample right at the entrance. Both classes would have been very suitable for people newer in their practices as well as more experienced - teachers accommodated poses well for all levels.

The Yoga Institute at Clear Lake is simply my home away from home.
Having practiced here since 2003, I have grown so much in my understanding and ability! The teachers each have a unique personality and teaching style and you come to love this diversity. This studio has been around since way before Yoga became a trend and it shows ... there is an undercurrent of genuine spiritual quest here that is simultaneously most accepting towards anyone - “Yoga meets you where you are at” says Katherine, the owner and a beloved teacher. Wishing her and all of us, great joy and more great Yoga in the new, drop dead gorgeous studio space!

Excellent place, run professionally and guided by very knowledgeable and experienced instructors. Great friendly environment too. I am learning so much and grateful for it. Moving to Houston for a job, I also needed to find a yoga studio because I’d been taking classes elsewhere for the last 1-2 years and definitely wanted to continue the practice. I joined The Yoga Institute because it was very close to work and made it convenient to go straight after work. I am so glad I lucked into it. My awareness of body and mind has increased so much in the last 4 months that I’ve been taking classes here. Having different teachers on different days gives me a diversity of styles and breadth of useful tips. The collective energy of teachers and students is very uplifting. I’m happy.

A reply to a dissatisfied student Henry Gibbs, I don't think it's appropriate to review a studio twice complaining about the same issue, instead of posting two disappointed posts try another studio, its yoga man don't stress over it.

I left here more stressed than I arrived. They don't start on time or finish on time. Even after I stopped going, family members that go don't get out on time, sometimes 45+ minutes late, so we can't plan activities on yoga days.

Zero stars.
