I love this gym because it’s my home gym.
Been going to this one for years, but last time I was there, I saw something really nasty on One of the workout mats. It was like a cluster of white little eggs. Don’t know what it was, but it was so gross. Please enforce, sanitation and wiping down your stuff.

I’m extremely disappointed with Tru Fit McAllen’s lack of professionalism and accountability.

On October 16, 2025, I experienced a safety-related incident during a training session. From that day on, I spent an entire week calling the club manager, leaving multiple messages and requesting a callback .

When the manager finally did respond, I was given an incorrect email, which delayed my ability to submit the written documentation. Because of that, even though the incident happened a month ago, it’s only been two weeks since my formal complaint was actually sent in—and those emails have also gone completely ignored.

At this point, I’ve been asking for something very simple:
• A refund for the unused personal training sessions
• Confirmation that my complaint was received
• A basic level of communication

It’s unacceptable that a paying member has to chase down management for a month with zero acknowledgment. The lack of customer service at this location is alarming.

I am now escalating this to corporate because the McAllen club has made it impossible to resolve directly.

I really enjoy this gym! It’s at a super convenient location, great parking, women’s only area is available, and has a nice weights and machines selection. Machines go down but they get them back up pretty quick from what I’ve seen. Honestly all that it is missing is a sauna 🥺 Dominic at front desk is always very welcoming and attentive! The manager here (not sure of her name) is also super nice.

This gym is always spotless, super clean and well-maintained, which makes every workout feel even better. There’s a huge variety of machines, so I never get bored or have to wait long to use something. The playlist is on point too & none of that whack music you usually hear in gyms, just good energy that keeps you going.

Didn't really know what to expect from a small gym.. the sounds system is pretty great, could hear it through my headphones.. not a lot of ppl when I went at 645pm so I was able to use the machines easily and quickly.. the machine did look like I would get tetanus if I touched the metal but I'm sure it helps the resistance.. the only down side is that they added a scan to my schedule for the next day without my consent or knowledge.. I just happened to be checkin my emails and app and saw it was added for next day.. not cool.. I was able to call and get it cleared but should not have happened..

I will be happy to change this review once this is fixed. Have been coming here for over two years and finally tired of it. I normally go in the mornings between 6:30-8:30 and the amount of dumbbells not redacted and the amount of people that don’t wipe down the machines after being used is absurd! Not cleaning the machine is disgusting and inconsiderate on numerous levels but the not repacking of weights is just flat out laziness and is bullshit at the end of the day. Gym needs to be cleaner. No reason for the there to be this many issues so early in the morning.

I’ve been a member of this gym for several years, and the quality has only gone downhill while the prices keep going up. They keep charging late fees, “maintenance fees,” and have even raised monthly rates — yet there haven’t been any real upgrades or improvements in over six years.

The machines are outdated, stiff from lack of maintenance, and many have been broken for months. Even the restroom lights flicker constantly. It’s hard to understand where all these extra fees are going.

What’s even worse is how they handle billing. They’ve charged me late fees because my autopay was removed due to their system error, and instead of notifying me right away, they let the balance sit for months so the late fees could pile up. When you ask about it, employees just blame the system and offer no real help or accountability. Employees stated that payments were revoked by the bank, but miraculously the payment went through after adding all the late fees. If payments were revoked or blocked by my bank, the payment balance with all late fees would’ve never had gone through but somehow it did. On top of that, the extra programs that require an additional fee to access, they’re often cancelled at the last minute. It defeats the purpose of paying extra when you can’t even rely on the classes being available. Customer service is extremely poor, and the overall experience feels like they care more about collecting money than taking care of their members or maintaining the gym.

What I truly appreciate about Ernie is his motivating and supportive nature. Even on tough days, he knows how to bring out my best and always encourages me to take on challenges. If you’re looking for a trainer who will challenge you, hold you accountable, and help you achieve real progress, I can’t recommend Ernie enough! Got a guest pass at this gym and it wasn’t what i expected. I’ve been looking for a gym to join and this one isn’t it. Be ware!!! AC doesn’t work, super hot in there. Dumbbells are always scattered. Weights, benches, dumbbells, plates… Nothing is ever where it’s supposed to be. No one re-racks their weights, and staff never does walk throughs to make sure stuff is in its place. They advertise tanning beds but they don’t work. Bathroom was clean at least. There’s better options out there
