I enjoy the environment, staff is great, and child care is A1. Manager is super sweet, the front desk receptionist is very welcoming, and childcare staff always does a great job watching your kids. 🩷

It is annoying to have weights all over the place, but if you just put it back and keep that etiquette, there wouldn't be any issues.

Decent equipment but equipment is unorganized in some parts of the gym. Dumbbells not on the right spots most of the time, plates on the floor, a couple of machines don't even have a pin or is missing. Looks like people don't like putting the equipment back.The layout is also kind of odd at first.

I went to the gym specifically to get an InBody scan. After completing it, I was a little confused by the numbers and simply wanted to know what my body fat percentage was. I approached one of the girls at the desk—someone who had actually helped me with this exact thing before—but this time she said she didn’t know and directed me to two other girls at the front, one of whom was a trainer.
When I asked them, they both said they didn’t know either. What made it worse is that all three of them weren’t doing anything—they were just sitting around chatting and on their phones.
I was actually planning to purchase personal training sessions, but after this experience? Forget it. If the staff can’t even be bothered to help with something this basic, it doesn’t inspire any confidence in their training services. It feels like they don’t want to be there and have zero interest in helping members.
This isn’t just a one-off experience either. I’ve seen other members complain about the same issue with the front desk girls (which I assume are the same ones). Clearly, management isn't addressing the problem.
I’ll be canceling my membership. No wonder the other day I saw True Fit staff walking around asking people to leave a good review for them online—now it makes sense.
And let’s be real: all these 5-star reviews? Feels like that’s the only way you’re able to keep your ratings high, because the actual service doesn’t match.
True Fit, do better. Start by hiring people who actually care.

Horrible experience today at TruFit Boca Chica

I’ve been a member for 3 years now and never had a problem before. Today, the manager on duty, whose name I believe is Diana Sanchez , was extremely rude to me and my entire family.

I pay for the daycare package, yet they didn’t have any daycare employees working during business hours. That in itself would have been fine if this poor excuse for a manager had simply approached me or my wife as we walked in to let us know they were short on staff. Instead, she looked directly at us as we walked into the daycare center, laughed while we waited for someone to sign my son in, and didn’t even get up from her chair to explain the situation.

After seeing no one come, I went to the front desk and asked what was going on. The staff member told me they didn’t have anyone available to watch the kids. Meanwhile, Diana just sat there, smirking and staring at us.

I asked if my son could walk in with me since there was no one to take care of him, and the front desk lady said yes. At that point, Diana—still sitting comfortably in her chair and not saying a word—waited until I actually started walking into the gym with my son before telling me, “Sorry, sir, you cannot bring him inside.” I don’t have a problem with that rule. What I do have a problem with is her not doing her job by letting families know right away that daycare services weren’t available, and offering a solution like going to the secondary location.

I’m in management myself, and I would never treat customers this way. She showed zero initiative, zero professionalism, and zero pride in her role. She just sat there and let the gym feel more uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

My daughter has been a member for over two years at TruFit. She has 3 children, they were in the kids “daycare” and like most siblings the boys were fighting and so the girl working that part of the gym called my daughter to come see about the boys and the girl is very rude and disrespectful to my daughter as if this was her first time witnessing sibling fight. Then she tells my daughter that by the way, it’s $10 more for the third child.
The problem wasn’t about the money it was about how this employee handled the situation and then she redirected my daughter to some young boy named,Riley who was also very unprofessional, talked down to my daughter in front of other customers, so clearly the staff is not trained in customer service skills, mannerism, and just simple respect for others.
I feel that my daughter deserves an apology.
TruFit Althletic is not the only gym in Brownsville to have the luxury of treating their customers like we need them because if it weren’t for the customers, staff wouldn’t have wages (paycheck)

I go here once a week to work out and the systems that they have for free weights is phenomenal. I’m able to get a good workout either upper body or lower body and the places is very clean. Also, the gym goers don’t really mess with you so you can go ahead and concentrate and log in on your workout without any distractions of the outside The trainers and the front desk are also very knowledgeable and what you do as exercise and they’re very easy to talk to

Super disappointed with this gym, we recently relocated and have been hitting this gym & there are never any weights where they should be a lot of things are broken & don’t even get me started on the whole daycare situation. We have been turned down before for them being at capacity which I have never experienced in any of the other gyms before and then today without warning the daycare was closed due to staff walking out apparently and them not having anyone. Drove 20 min for nothing. I mean we are paying for these things to be taken care of!

Hands down the dirtiest, most disorganized gym in Brownsville and that I’ve ever been to.

Weights are everywhere, except where they should be. Good luck finding a pair of dumbbells! You will almost always have to go on a scavenger hunt throughout the entire gym to find the second one. Plates on the floor every 15 feet, just waiting for someone to trip.

Pins to set weights for machines are a luxury at this gym. It’s ridiculous. 1 out of 3 machines will actually have a pin and it’s been going on for months without a solution. Machines are broken for months without getting fixed.

The cherry on top is the workers. Absolutely incredible that corporate pays people to literally just down and be on their phones for 8 hours (or however long their shifts are). I have never, not once, seen an employee rack a weight or help with anything that’s not related to the membership itself. There could be a fire at the gym and the workers would probably be the last to know. I am strictly talking the front end workers, the maintenance/sanitation employees seem to be the only ones who ever do anything. I see girl employees posing in the mirrors, walking past the unracked weights and over chaos of gym as if they were there to workout, it’s honestly infuriating.

These pics are actually on a good day (since on bad days I’m usually too pissed off to even take pics).

Management, get your employees to lead by example and maybe some of gym members will follow through as well! It’s all about culture! As employees rack weights, they can also hold gym members accountable when they see them not reracking!

Also, get more damn pins! If you’re concerned with theft, have someone tie them down to the specific machine.

These problems are not that hard to fix, which is what makes it even worse.

Also, don’t act as if you don’t know about these issues. There has been at least 4 reviews mentioning the same damn issues I just did.

I’ve definitely noticed the bad vibes at the front desk. There are three dark hair girls with glasses—two with ponytails and one with curly hair—and honestly, don’t expect a "Good day" or a "Thank you" from them. Their customer service skills feel nonexistent. They’re always on their phones, and I have no idea what they’re even supposed to be doing there. If they don’t like their jobs, they should just quit.

The guy with the fro also gives off weird vibes. When the front desk people act like that, it sets the tone for the whole gym since everyone has to go through them.

I see there are some new faces now. Hopefully, they don’t end up just as bitter and unhelpful.

This gym is fine. Usually has broken treadmills. The one on Boca Chica has a building energy probably. If you go in the afternoon, you can feel all the negative energy that people leave behind in that gym. I think it’s the building infrastructure. They have a separate women’s section. This gym needs a limpia.

I am from Matamoros, but do work in Brownsville.
My work place is really near this gym location, so I thought it was convenient for me.

1. You never find the weights you want. Not even at the ladies’! It is so ANNOYING and FRUSTRATING. My 3 year old would put the weights away by weight if he could (he organizes stuff by color and size).😑

2. The children daycare is unavailable from 1 through 4 pm. You can only have your child for just two hours. What about the mom that wants to shower after a good workout?

3. People there always look down on you. (I have worked out at two gyms in Matamoros, and two in Colorado)

4. For 40 dollars, you can ONLY bring one guest Friday through Sunday. An extra guest would mean paying 24 dollars. Such a ripoff.

5. Two of the stair master machines are broken since last year.

6. My favorite abs recliner has been gone for about a month.

😔 I am changing gyms to one in Matamoros. I am aware how organized they are with their racks and there’s an all female gym that offers a daycare that I am willing to give a try.

I used to love this gym because of the Childcare attendants (Sol y Estrella were rockstars to my 3 year old son).

Sofia and Alejandra, the receptionists, have been always so kind and supportive towards me and my son.

Rene would always welcome me with a smile.

The customers are messy and do not pick up after themselves it’s an everyday thing which leads to the weights being scattered throughout the gym and they leave their trash too.

The weekend hours suck, the other Trufit is Open at 7:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, sunday's at this gym they open at 9:00 which is the inconvenience to some. Crunch fitness which is across the street is also open at 7:00 management should really change the hours of this gym to be in sync with the other Trufit in town. I will give this gym a better review if the schedule was better, and the staff were more attentive to the cleanliness of the gym.

Quiero expresar mi inconformidad por que han estado poco a poco recortando o quitando las clases de la instructora con la que tengo casi 10 años de estar asistiendo a clases de zumba en las tardes … en el del mall de plano quitaron las dos clases que había .. y ahora en boca chica las recortaron a 45 minutos cuando antes era una hora de por si son solo dos clases que ella da en las tardes y ahora resulta que la encargada aviso que quitarían la clase del miércoles por qué pondrán otra y yo pregunto… por qué a las otras instructoras no les recortan o quitan días así como lo hacen con la instructora de los lunes y miércoles en las tardes? Quizá a ella le afecta o no por su trabajo pero las más afectadas somos las q asistimos a la clase de ya casi 10 años de antigüedad … piden asistencia pero por qué nada más a ella l exigen que llene clase cuando yo e visto que las otras tampoco llenan… cada una tiene sus alumnas de años y aparte por eso pagamos una mensualidad y una cuota al año .. o sea por que no toman en cuenta a las que estando asistiendo ?? Nada más toman en cuenta a las personas que piden otras clases y está bien pero respeten las clases que ya están y si van a poner nuevas acomódenlas a lo largo del día y no en un día y hora que está ocupado por años …sería bueno que se nos tome en cuenta con todo respeto ya que al pagar también tenemos derecho a ser tomadas en cuenta por que nos afecta.. Quiero denunciar que la coordinadora de las clases ha estado cerrando las clases de una de las entrenadoras, le ha estado quitando clases y haciendo los horarios mas cortos, lo curioso es que no lo hace con todas solo con una persona y eso nos esta afectando a nosotros ya que muchas tenemos mas de 10 años de estar tomando clases con esta instructora y esta dirigente cuando ella quiere hace lis cambios sin importar lo que nos afecte a varias, claramente es un acto de discriminación hacia nuestra entrenadora ya que solo a ella le recorta las clases. This gym is horrible now. I cancelled my membership cause of the uncleanliness in the men’s bathroom and because machines are either broken or missing stack pins. They also apparently raised membership prices without contacting you about it and just stating in person that there was a price raise increase. Management said they cannot refund you once you have been charged. You will be paying more for a lesser gym.

Cristian does an amazing job at personal training. He is flexible and works with your schedule. He comes in prepared for the workout. He checks in and makes sure there is no pain associated with the movement while motivating you to keep pushing. On days where I’m sturggling, he makes adjustments and will pivot the workout in a different direction

I had the pleasure of training with Christian Urquiza at the Boca Chica True Fit location in Brownsville, TX for approximately three months. I must say, Christian is an exceptional personal trainer who truly exceeded my expectations.

Christian always came prepared with well-thought-out workouts that were specifically tailored to my fitness goals. He constantly pushed me to reach new levels of strength and endurance that I had never achieved before in my years of training. His dedication and commitment to helping me succeed were evident in every session.

One thing I truly appreciated about Christian's training style was the perfect balance between challenging and enjoyable workouts. He managed to create routines that not only pushed me to my limits but also made the sessions fun and engaging. Every workout was a new adventure, and I always looked forward to what he had planned for me.

Thanks to Christian I have seen tremendous progress in my fitness journey. I feel stronger, more confident, and motivated to continue pushing myself further. I couldn't be happier with the results I have achieved under his guidance.

If you are looking to get personal training sessions, please read over the contract, you have to inform them of cancellation regardless of the term of the contract or they will keep billing you until you give notice, which is awful in my opinion…I’m still waiting for a refund of a charge after I had cancelled.

TruFit definitely needs to better its facility and overall cleanliness. However, I am faithful to this location because I have the best trainer ever, Cristian Urquiza! He always makes me and my partner feel super comfortable! He always motivates us and helps us achieve our goals! I look forward to seeing him every week! He is so kind and a great asset to the TruFit team! Highly recommended him!

Friendly staff and knowledgeable trainers. I had the pleasure to take Combo 6 with coach Cristian Urquiza, he was very understanding and knowledgeable. He was also very mindful of previous injuries and designed workouts to help aid our recovery. He also created an atmosphere of encouragement no matter our skill set. Will recommend 👌

Staff is so rude & money hungry!
I came as a guest with my younger sibling & I guess they thought I was around the same age & wanted to talk down on me. So I did what anyone one else would do & matched her energy! This place has completely lost their way & is not worth it whatsoever. Try crunch, golds or planet fitness! 100000% better than this place.

The gym is nice but equipment gets broken a lot, and weights are always scattered. Also workers are always on their phones and some of the workers can be rude.
