The Wilderness Golf Club at Lake Jackson has established itself as the #1 Public Golf Course in Texas and #3 in the U.S. 2020 as ranked by the golf consumers from Golf Advisor. The Wilderness at Lake Jackson transcends time and delivers guests back to the days when early settlers traveled from town to town in search of the next gold nugget. The rustic, western-themed clubhouse adds to the ambiance of your golf experience. Thereβs not a home to be seen anywhere, just a majestic piece of expertly manicured property complete with 18 holes of naturally rolling terrain nestled in the wetlands area of Lake Jackson. The Wilderness is THE place to spend the day, or the weekend for the golf enthusiast from across the state.

We absolutely enjoy this beautiful course definitely a gem in Lake Jackson. They have been working hard from the damage caused by the hurricane last year and are doing a great job getting the course back to pristine condition and are almost there. The level and style of the course and what they charge to play is more than fair. And for the people giving 1 star because of condition obviously donβt know what this course went through and has been improving every month, they take pride in this course and thereβs no such thing as a perfect course. I played at TPC in Scottsdale and guess what there was imperfect areas as well and paid over 400.00 to play there. Keep up the great work Wilderness and if you havenβt tried come and play a round.

If youβre like me, you saw the 4.7 Google rating for this course and thought well this must be a Hidden gem. I made the trek out to Lake Jackson from Houston, and while Iβm happy I did come out to check out the course, itβs definitely not a 4.7 google rating. Itβs not better than memorial wildcat or tour 18 or any of the other solid public courses in Houston. Itβs got a fun design and itβs maintained fairly well. The holes have some cool layouts and you really do feel like youβre in the wilderness at some point. However, the greens need a significant amount of work. They arenβt that fast, there Is one hole with a huge sand pit on the green. So is the course worth the 45 minute drive from Houston? probably for a one-time trip and a cheap round ($40 twilight is not bad). But itβs not worth trekking out there All the time, and itβs overall reading should really be something more like a 4.0.

The course is in great shape, but the bunkers need sand and a few of the greens had pau aunna grass (weeds) on them. But always a fun track to play.

Booked a tee time on a Saturday, we were paired with another couple and everyone was a good sport. Check in was quick, getting beverages and snacks were quick, and the carts were clean. The tee boxes were in good condition, the fairways were in good condition as well, the greens on the other hand needs some help.

Pro Staff is awesome. Amazing people at the pro counter! Girls in cantina and carts are great. Greens are horrible! Absolutely no reason at end of April greens should be a 6 or 7 on speed. You pay full prices and get to the green and they absolutely ruin a good day of golf.
Should be ashamed. Nobody - Nobody has green this slow anywhere in Texas!!!

Great golf course!! Open fairways, very nice greens. There is some maintenance going on with cart paths but that doesn't take away from the experience.

It's a pretty course that much is for sure.
However having to withdraw from a company tournament after finding out the course is STILL cart path only kills it for me. Can you imagine how frustratingly long a round of golf would be playing in a 4 man team scramble tourney ?? That is wild. Those types of tourneys are already long WITHOUT the cart path only rule.
I get it, Beryl damaged some areas of fairway but not to the point where cart path only should still be in affect spring break 2025. The hurricane made landfall July 8th....
Again. The course is beautiful and fun. However the decision to keep it cart path only this long in the name of "turf regrowth" ruins it. Anyone who plays golf regularly knows that being told the course is cart path only sucks. And in this case it sucks even more because we can all see the course shouldn't be cart path only. Caution tape amd a few cones would achieve the same result. No discounts on membership dues/tee times, just stuck with having to walkπ€·.
Until this gets sorted Freeport Municipal Golf Course is the course to play in the area.
If I have to be THAT guy then so be it. Seems like people just don't want to say the quiet part out loud for some reason.
Happy Golfing !

Though I live about an hour from Wilderness, I still make it a point to get down there a handful of times per year. Outside of the course being a great layout and fun to play, Miguel and the team are tremendous to work with on booking for my golf group. They always communicate how the condition of the course is, so there are no surprises when we show up. I highly recommend Wilderness Golf Course for anyone looking for a little something different in Houston's golf landscape.

Played Dec. 2. The website indicates they are still recovering from Beryl, but the course is almost entirely in excellent condition. All greens are great. A couple fairways (such as 9) have some spots that are still recovering, but the course is very easily worth it.
Excellent, fun layout. It's still cart path only, but I brought my push cart and walked instead, it's a great walk with no long hauls between holes.

My coworker and I were in the area for a work trip from Augusta, Ga and decided to drop by and try this course out.
This was a well designed, challenging yet golfer friendly course. The course was beautiful and overall in great shape. Water was present in locations that provided challenging approaches, but there wasnβt enough water throughout the course such that you would lose balls constantly from errant shots. At the time we were golfing it was cart path only so it was pointless having a cart, but the layout of this course was perfect for walking. Just make sure to check on cart rules before wasting money on it like us. Haha
For the price I felt this was an amazing course and hidden gem. Highly recommend!

Our group will make the hour drive to Wilderness to play once every 6-8 weeks. They recently advertised a special steak dinner event they were having, but unfortunately, by the time I called, they were sold out but had a waitlist to which I was added. The dinner is 4 days away and Iβve been contacting Wilderness to see if I would be coming off the waitlist, since I wanted to book a tee time to play there before the dinner. Iβve left a message that was ignored. I followed up with a phone call and was told someone would return my call later today. Ultimately, no one has reached out. Wilderness obviously does not need or want my business, so I will take it elsewhere. I was planning to bring a friend who has never heard of Wilderness. Unfortunately, Iβve sold her on the course and friendly service that is now obviously lacking. Very disappointing experience. I understand they may not have room for us for the dinner, but a courtesy return call would have been nice so we can make alternative plans.

Booked through GolfNow. Golfcourse conditions were average muni, nothing more. That's not even the bad part. When arriving to the course, Pro shop says I need to pay an extra $30 for cart. Show the girl at counter, reservation includes cart. Assures me I have to pay for cart. Essentially extorted to give them another $30 on top of the $120 I pre-paid GN for golf and cart for the wife and I. What was I to do as I just drive over an hour to get there? If I would have know you would do that, I would have just gone to GC of Houston or Tour 18. At least I would have an above average course for the same price.

Solid Course , very welcoming staff, cool looking pro shop (log cabin theme), course layout is really good with trouble lurking in the sides of the holes, no forced carries, course does get more challenging with the longer tees, greens are moderately hard to putt with slope and grain, beverage cart was out and about fairly often, the course is walkable - we finished in 3hr 40 min. I would come down and play again. Only 50 min south of Houstonβs Hobby airport.

Fun layout and challenging. Front 9 is a good warmup for the back 9, as everything gets tighter and more scenic. It actually gets a little shorter on the back 9, so they throw you a bone there.
The greens are complex and challenging. They always roll true and are fast, but be ready to three putt a few times because of the complexity of the humps on the greens and the larger influencing mounds around the greens.
The par-5s are my favorites. Pack a lunch for playing holes 9 and 18, they are difficult and long.
During these strange virus times there are more people golfing, so plan ahead and book your tee time 3 or 4 days in advance.

As always course was in great shape, love the rolling hilly setup here it is a very picturesque golf course with a great range and practice bunkers and practice green. I wish they would add coolers to the golf carts, the plastic bags are kind of cheesy but that could be temporary due to COVID-19 restrictions.
