This review is from my dad. My main quarrel is gym times. They need to reopen it to 10 o clock. Weekend times are very short as well it could atleast been open until 7. They can’t blame Covid because for closing early because they don’t make people wear mask. You can’t cancel your membership without paying even though they changed their times. Absurd. Also what am I paying for to have a juice bar and they don’t even have it anymore.

I have come and gone from American Family Fitness over the years. It seems that they are under some different management as of late and really enjoyed the experience. The pricing model as change that I think it's very fair. We started from just one of us joining to our entire family going. With each additional person we added it when lower and lower.

The facility is very nice and all of the employees are friendly and professional. I actually started doing some personal training there and if you ever consider it, ask for Jessica. I've had such a wonderful experience with her. I don't know if all of the personal trainers are like this but it is so enjoyable working with her that I actually find myself looking forward to my next appointment. It's like working out with a friend that keeps you on track. If you are considering trying personal training, I would definitely recommend her. It's not something I ever thought that I would enjoy or appreciate but she has made it a positive experience.

My daughter signed up with American family fitness just prior to the pandemic. Immediately after the pandemic started they closed their doors and no one could be in the facility for quite some time. I then later into the pandemic requested that my membership be terminated however I found it impossible to get through to the desk to cancel the membership and the website was absolutely atrocious. They make it impossible for you to quit your membership. When I finally got in touch with someone they stated that we did not sign a contract from the standpoint of the calendar year however we guaranteed payment for 12 months. They of course did not count the months that they were closed and they began to debit our credit card when they were finally allowed to open. They state that this is normal however I pointed out that this is the first pandemic that the country has had so that would be impossible. I think their practices are atrocious and they conveniently use the pandemic as an excuse to continue to get paid. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They make it easy to sign up then possible to cancel your membership.

I tried to like this facility but they charged me 85.00 a month and when I tried to cancel due to the pandemic and the lack of mask usage in the facility, plus social distancing they still charged my account a $50.00 annual fee for Jan, when they stated I wasn't; I only was a member for 60 days and canceled my membership in Dec. That was another issue; trying to get it cancel, it seems to be a disconnect and break in communication among the local office and the billing department. YMCA I go.

I almost never leave negative reviews, but in this case it is warranted. I have rarely experienced such terrible customer service from a business. I notified AMFAM that I would need to cancel my membership when my contract expired in June due to job loss. I let them know WELL before the 30 day required timeframe. They then told me that they had extended my contract due to COVID (without ever communicating with me about this). So, I reached out for clarification. I received no return calls, no answers for my questions other than to state what is "due" though my contract date expired. I reached out to the general manager (no response), asked questions to member services (no response). The only information I received was reminders to pay my bill (which I have). I hoped to return to the gym once I return to work, but I will most certainly NOT be bringing my business back to AMFAM. They guise themselves as local, but their business practices are anything but. I never enjoy leaving a less than positive review, but I also find it very discouraging that businesses know they can operate like this with no repercussion. If you are looking for a local gym with good communication, don't use this one!

The staff at American Family Fitness are extremely friendly and every morning I’m greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk named Delphine. She makes waking up early every morning before work a little more bearable and always puts a smile on my face with her kind words! The variety and quantity of their equipment is impressive and I’ve surprisingly never had to wait to use a machine, despite their large number of members. Not to mention that their facility is always spotless and doesn’t smell like hundreds of people sweat in it daily. I highly recommend this gym and tell people about it whenever I get the chance.

I really love this gym. Everyone is so friendly and it is the cleanest gym I have seen. I really appreciate the childcare that is provided. It is not just babysitting. The staff engage with my seven and five year olds keeping them busy and active. They love it!! Without this service I would not be able to work out.

Very nice gym. Only one issue. I was told that if a trainer needed the equipment that I was using I had to give it up because trainers have priority. I felt that was a little rude. Went to the Williamsburg location doing a superset in the PT room a female trainer came and insisted she needed the equipment I was using at the time. However, I informed the young lady I had two sets left and I would be done soon. She stated she needed the ropes and the box for her client. If someone is on the equipment in the middle of their set the proper thing to do is wait. Instead they state their trainers have priority. Really considering canceling my membership due to that. If I HAVE to give up equipment while In use and I pay a membership not attractive. One thing for sure one life doesn’t do that. I’m very big on customer service!! Not good Rules. I don’t need trainer and won’t pay for one. Will be loosing my service!!! This is something the owner should fix or I’m sure a lot of people will leave.
She also stated the PT room was mainly for people who paid for training. I was told I could use everything. The gym should be a place for everyone not just people paying for trainers!!!! This bothers me and I really don’t like it.

I lost my debit card and when I got a new one, I forgot to update my info for this gym and so they had no card on file taking out a payment. I also had recently moved and was planning on filing to cancel my account anyway because I live in an entirely different county. I heard absolutely nothing from them so I assumed it was maybe just void on it’s own because of the card situation. Nope. They sent my account to collections with no notice.

Beautiful gym. They have a great child "daycare". Kids always wanted my husband and I to go work out. Clean restrooms for woman at least and Baeplex coming in was awesome.

*edit* 2018. Be careful what you get yourself into. The lady that signed us up, Jessica, was super friendly but also told us that there would be no issues with our traveling situation... she left out a lot of important information. Feel like we were scammed, conned just to get us signed up... we were very explanatory how my husband travels for work and probably wont be there for too long and if we need to cancel we can. She went over how to cancel (all of which was not true) now we are stuck paying the remainder of the membership when we weren't there but 2 months. We went in asking for a 3 month membership and because it would be no cancellation fee because of relocation of work, and just show proof of being relocated it would not be an issue. Provided that all plus some and NOPE.

They will not let you cancel unless you hurt yourself or move 30 miles away. One of their service members over the phone told me to write a letter of why I want to leave and mail it to them with their $100 cancelation fee and they applied that to my account. Now they are billing me for another 2 months.

A nice gym, but lacking in a lot of areas. The class offerings are limited (a lot of step and dance-type classes, in my opinion), and there aren't any offered from noon to 4:30. There are no basketball or racquetball courts. The price is steep for what's available. They recently opened Fusion, which is their version of OrangeTheory, but it's an additional monthly rate. The best thing about this gym is their child care. It's a large room with lots of options to keep the kids busy. I do wish they didn't have a TV available, but I've always felt confident that my kids were well cared for when I've left them to go work out.

I prefer to have a nice routine where I can go in at the same time each day, take a physically demanding class, and go on about my day. This gym doesn't fit that for me at this point in my life. While the gym is clean and nice, I can get what I'm looking for right now for cheaper elsewhere.

The Facility will rip you off. Essentially, due to an employee making a mistake and misinforming me, the site management refused to admit fault and charged me $140.

I had to move and due to one of their employees not informing me of the proper account freeze paperwork before I could cancel, they refused to reimburse me for fraudulent charges for two months.

I personally love the staff and how they always greet you at the door with a smile. The bathrooms are very clean and sanitary and the trainers are always willing to give you tips when you’re working out or have questions. Although I do wish they expand and bring back their 24 hour availability, because it does get crowded and I don’t like to go when it’s crowded but it only stay open till 11.

The only thing this gym has going for them is the cycle classes and front desk personal were always friendly and helpful- specifically Mrs Delphine. Other than that, it’s a tiny facility and most of the times I went, it was crowded. Also, most of the kids zone employees need more training on childcare. The infant childcare was good but the other kids zone play area employees would always be sitting around and not interacting much with the children. There were several occasions where my youngest child would get hurt falling off their playground equipment, which he should not of been on without adult supervision. I ultimately ended up leaving because I felt they were incapable of caring for my children.

I visited from out of town. In comparison to the Gold's gym in Bowie, MD and Ritchie Station in MD, this gym is hands down better I'm terms of space, quality and well kept equipment, guest services, and cleanliness. Everything appeared to be in its proper place amd staff were friendly. The bathroom area was clean. That is highly important. Dear Gold's Gym, take a field trip, take notes, and learn. I gave this a 4 star because it only has one power/squat rack with a platform. There is another squat stand though.

The front desk people are the rudest I have ever seen at a gym. Warning! They won't let you out of contract ! Beware ! Gym is just not a friendly place as also the other members are very rude. Machines also always a few broken. . ....Don't go ! You can not cancel in 30 days and you are stuck. You pay for the whole year. I have never seen that at any gym. Not worth it and very rude. MILITARY BEWARE.. Over the time I have spent in Williamsburg (over 15 years) I have not found a more disgusting excuse for a gym. It's not just one thing or two that has upset me its a multitude. The staff are worse than time share scam artists with little to no education on fitness. The front door staff are usually rude and you'll be lucky if they even look at you. If you're military and are retiring good luck breaking contract. The gym itself is lacking severely. You pay the same maintenance fees and price as the amfam in richmond with a qtr of the equipment and amenities. On average 6 to 8 machines or treadmills are down. Yet you pay a "annual" maintenance fee which they have seemed to charge me 4 times in one year with no explanation. And the actually weight lifting room is a joke.. If you need change any little bit of info on your account or pay in cash you better plan it 2 months in advance. All in all this is a corporate controlled money hung try establishment with no regard for its patrons, their fitness or even the gym itself. Oh and it's not 24hrs..

A really good gym, I have been very pleased with this gym from the time I stepped in the gym. From the friendly front desk staff, management gave a friendly and wonderful walk around of the place to make you feel right at home. I was impressed that the management took the time to introduce me to the staff and trainers.The trainers and staff work well at making sure your getting off to a good start by taking the time to get you into the right path of your goals. No one bothers me. I can be "in the zone" and others seem to recognize that and don't try to disturb me. The facilities are clean. I'm very good about spraying and wiping down equipment once I've used it but I've seen others do this as well. The women's bathroom is always clean. I'm always needing to "go" because of all of the fluids I drink. Women are respecting the facilities and keeping it neat.Everyone seems friendly and respectful to one another I have recommended AFF to friends. We're about to get our 20-something year old son a membership. My almost-seventy husband never liked gyms. But this one is different. He feels really comfortable at AFF. And, he likes the fact that he can go there in the middle of the night if he wants to.It's great place. We bought a 2-year membership and love it.

This is a great gym with some awesome staff. Their Front Desk Attendants, Janitors, Certified Personal Trainers, Group Instructors, those who help out with signing up for the gym, and last but certainly not least, those who help you have a good recovery shake, are extremely helpful, respectful and kind! If I missed anyone, I just want you all to know to keep up the great work and to continue to provide such immense care and support for all who visit American Family Fitness! Be aware of scam, mislead, high price and unprofessional employees. Their employees are not honest and lie. Staff was always friendly but their contracts are ridiculous and hard to get out of. Been in contract for 3 years, can get out without having a doctor's note or moving where AFF is not offered.

My mother provided a doctor's note due to not being able to walk after an accident. First they miss placed the note, then when a second was provided they wanted a more recent documentation. (As though they are qualified to determine weather or not the doctor made a good decision), then they automatically renewed her contract.

Stay far away. Their are better gyms in the area and ones better that are worth a bit of a drive

Trying to cancel from this place is a joke. Before I moved Florida I went in and tried to cancel and they said they needed a proof of residency, which I game them. Two months later they called me saying I owed them money, which I had already moved away. I told them I had already cancelled, the lady over the phone said no I didn't and I needed to pay the cancellation fee and show that I moved. Needless to say they wanted me to pay a cancellation fee twice. This place is a joke and a big waist of money!

I have been a member of AFF in Williamsburg for approx. 9 mos. My experience here has been fantastic to say the least. The front desk staff is always welcoming, greeting me when I first come in the door with a pleasant "hello" and when I leave always asks how my workout went if they were not busy with another member.

The person who wrote my initial contract, was courteous and friendly. She walked me through the facility, explained how some of the equipment worked and answered all of my questions with confidence. Some might say she was just being a sales person, but to this day, she calls me by name and takes the time to see how I am doing.

One of my standards for joining any gym is cleanliness. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility, especially the locker room, bathrooms, the dressing area and showers. That was the clincher for me. I have been in gyms that didn't care about cleanliness or waited to do a major cleaning once or twice a year.

The salesperson introduced me to my first personal trainer. She was very friendly, experienced, and listened to my goals and set a plan for me to accomplish them. When she moved, my second trainer was a friendly and experienced trainer who listened to my goals and worked with me to tailor a plan that would help me accomplish my new goals.

I have been a gyms before where if you were not already "buff", trainers did not have the time of day for you. I can honestly say every trainer at AFF has spoken to me, noticed my accomplishments and has had encouraging words for me. I started at 288 pounds. My original goal was just to be able to complete an athletic event for charity. Through the encouragement of the staff, (trainers and non trainers), my new goal became to lose weight and get back into shape. In the last 9 mos., I have found I can do many things I thought I would never do again. I have lost 20 lbs., more inches than I would have ever thought was possible and I am not finished yet.

This is the place to come if you are in shape or out of shape. You would be comfortable either way. I cannot say enough about the staff here. I would recommend this facility to anyone.

Well lit interior. Lots of cardio machines, although they are in two places. I use the ones upstairs that have the headphone jack so I cannot attest to the complaints of the weak wireless from the ones downstairs. The place is clean, however I have been irked once when a staff member was cleaning close to the freeweight machine I was one - but I get irked when anybody comes near me and watches me when I lift. The staff have always been friendly to me. I do not use any trainers. My membership is up soon bbut I may change to Ironbound just for a change of pace.

I went to American Fam Fitness in Wmbg to find out about memberships on a sunday afternoon. I signed in and was told i had to wait for the person who handles this because they were "closing a contract." While sitting there, several other employees were behind the desk. I waited for more than 15 minutes with no help. All while staff jerked around behind the desk. Its a nice gym from what i saw...only the front desk area. I was there to inquire about memberships for employees of our company and to see the facility in general. Thank you to the staff for your poor customer service. After leaving, i went to the Iron Bound gym also in Newtown. I was greeted promptly and asked how they can help me out. American Family Fitness just lost thousands of dollars because our company has 478 employees. thank your Sunday afternoon staff.

Out of town folks seeking a work out location...forget about it. A one day pass (even if you only need use for a couple of hours) is a non-negotiable 20 bucks. Ridiculous! Shame on you American Family Fitness.

I went to American Family Fitness today because I was looking for a new place to work out. They advertise a free week for checking out the facility. I filled out a form and was told to wait for a manager or director. The front desk staff was very unprofessional and had horrible customer service. When the manager came down ten minutes later I asked about the facilty and the free week. He VERY rudely told me they charge $60 per week for guests and did not offer a tour. He was out of shape, in wrinkled dress clothes, and obviously hated his job. This happens when incompetent people are given a position of power. I have never heard of any fitness facility charging such an outrageous price. Even places with pools and basketball courts. The ad for a free week is a scam, so be very weary of the other scams they will pull on their members. There are multiple gyms in Williamsburg that are not only affordable but have nicer equipment and better employees. There is even one right accross the parking lot named Iron Bound that has been around for years with great reviews and a knowledgable staff. Don't get ripped off by this new gym!!
