All the staff on duty can never help with anything. There's an option to makw up classes on. Weekends. When you talk to them ' we really don't have many options.' Canceling your monthly payments is like pulling teeth - just very complicated for no reason. If you rate less than 1 I would. It shear frustration to deal with Big blue Ashburn.

So unfortunately, I have to update my review. I figured out that my original review was true as long as absolutely nothing even remotely abnormal or complicated happens. And by this, I mean, like the littlest thing that it only takes a half an ounce of common sense to figure out. I will never again return to the school. No one there ever has any idea what’s going on, how to fix any sort of issue, any common sense whatsoever, the management is absolutely atrocious, everyone here is the worst. The instructors are great, but everyone else sucks! It’s such a shame too. They screwed up yet again tonight. I rescheduled our regular Sunday swim lesson to Tuesday at 7:30 because I have been sick the past couple days and was unable to bring my child. I contacted the school via text. They told me that they were moving us to Tuesday at 7:30 and that it would be no problem and they were always happy to help. I was very appreciative and I thanked them. We show up to the lesson tonight at 7:30 and I open my app to check in my son and we have no lesson scheduled, not only for tonight, but not even our regular weekly lesson. I go to one employee whom I’ve had trouble with in the past because she never has any idea what’s going on And she referred me to the supposed manager at the front who apparently could help me. And go to the front the manager is on the phone forever. I wait for her to get off the phone and she tells me that it looks like someone on the 13th of this month With withdrew my son. Which is funny because we’ve been there since then and I never withdrew him. She couldn’t tell me who did this or why. When I asked her if he could just attend the lesson that we were promised this evening and I would give them one more chance to get their stuff together and we could start fresh in a new month since it’s about to be August, she just looked at me with the dumbest expression on her face Was totally unapologetic, unwilling to bend at all to try to fix the situation that was clearly their fault, and she said to me that she was sorry, but she had no room. I told her that we would never against that foot in that school and that we were gonna go to one of their competitors because of all the reasons that I just told you guys. There are Many more things I could tell you, but I don’t want to bore you with a longer review than this already has gotten. But trust me they have no idea how to handle anything at all. It amazes me that they’re even still in business. Because if this is how they run a business Then I’m shocked. And please ignore any typos or punctuation or grammar error errors, as I am speaking to text. I normally hate that, but I am so frustrated. I just don’t wanna go back and fix them. I really really strongly advise that you do not go to the school And if you do, I really hope that nothing out of the ordinary even something tiny ever happens with your account because it’s just gonna start a snowball effect of them screwing everything up and not caring to try to give you, as the customer, what you need. These people have no idea that the customer is always right, and I’m not saying that because I did something that I’m trying to make an excuse for. I literally didn’t do anything to deserve to be treated like this, especially after giving them a glowing review like I did previously. I’m extremely angry and extremely upset and most of all extremely disappointed. Big Blue, you will never be seeing me or my money again And I can’t wait to find one of your competitors that I’m sure we’ll be amazing and write an honest review about my experience there. You need to train your staff way better and maybe stop hiring children who don’t care at all about customer service and satisfaction. They have no idea what they’re doing, and clearly neither do you if you continue to let your business be run this way.

Amazinglly great Swim Instructors. The supervisors, who check in and constantly monitor the progress of the students are excellent in what they do!!!
I would have given them 5 stars if not for the unpleasant experience I had with one of the staff there, i believe her name is Ishyiana. I saw a felllow parent innocently filming his son but as he was right next to my daughter in her swimsuit I wasn't comfortable. My mistake was telling this staff member who was nearby, hoping she would handle it diplomatically. Instead she turns coldly at me and says in the most unpleasant way" He is filming his son!" Shutting me off completely.
I wanted to sign her up for more classes since she was doing so well but the prospect of encountering the above-mentioned person in the future is a huge detterent.
Update- spoke with the supervisor Baraa who handled it with utmost respect and understanding. He made sure my concerns were conveyed to the general manager and also reassured me that he had spoken the other paremt and that there was no cause to worry. That was all that I wanted in the first place

We love Big Blue and are so glad we chose it among other swim schools. The staff is friendly and always helpful whenever we have questions or concerns.

My daughter started as a complete beginner, and now—less than a year later—she’s learning all four strokes! The coaches she has worked with have been fantastic. Nadine usually gets bored with long-term activities, but Mr. Baraa has been amazing fit for her. His skills and fun personality keep her engaged and motivated.

Meanwhile my son tends to overthink things, but his coach, Mr. Sahil, has been incredibly patient and encouraging. He continues to help Azlan build confidence, and we’ve seen steady improvement.

I had a mixed experience with Big Blue Swim School. On the positive side, I appreciated their cleanliness. However, I felt that their evaluation process is not upto the mark. It would be beneficial if they proactively assess child readiness for next level, instead of waiting for parents reminders. Additionally, my younger child felt that the testing process was biased. To ensure fairness and consistency, it is highly recommended for them to review their assessment methods. Update- As of now, as stated in their response none of the staff have reached out to discuss my review.

Brought my 2.5 year old son and he enjoyed it, but Im not convinced this method or organized swim lessons is any better than going to a community pool regularly and swimming with an adult who is a strong swimmer. This is the first from blue and the second organized swim lesson I've brought him. They go through the core skills needed to START your child to swim using those skills. By no means is 30min going to enable your child to swim. It does give you the skills to coach your child and get additional advice. I think if you have no clue how to swim and your child doesn't have access to a community pool then this is a great program.

We’ve had at least a good experience with every instructor at Big Blue, but Sisay is special. He is always encouraging and enthusiastic. Our two children (a boy, who just turned nine, and a girl, who is about to turn six) have contrasting personalities and are at different levels, but Sisay knows just how to motivate and support both of them. We are so pleased with him that when our son moved up another level, we happily gave up having both sessions at the same time so that both kids could be with Sisay. Thank you, Sisay, for all you do.

Your service has been disappointing. Once a class is missed, there’s no structured way to resume with proper guidance. Each instructor teaches in their own style, without considering the student’s current level or what areas need focus. This lack of consistency makes it difficult to progress effectively.

This place has gone down hill significantly since being bought by Big Blue. It's always dirty, they rotate teachers where kids need consistency, the made the baby class size of the pool smaller and when there are more than 5 kids, you are CRAMMED. They don't even have any other classes going on in the other side so it made zero sense to make that kind of change. I was told "that's what the curriculum says". Well, guess someone should take a look at how to fix the curriculum for it to make sense. I could go on but we are fed up and pulled our kid. There's never an actual adult to talk to so trying to explain any of this to the kids there doesn't seem like anything will get done because no one is actually in charge.

This group really seems like a bunch of young people who are exhausted and overworked. While we were met with kindness from the employees, I think there are definitely valid criticisms that need to be taken into consideration. During our trial, the other two students were completely out of hand. It’s frustrating because their parents are quite literally within reach. Parents come here to have their children learn a life saving skill. But if other students are impeding the ability of another to learn this skill due to disruptions; it defeats the purpose. It was clear that the instructors were getting frustrated and I watched as one student tried to bite the instructor a couple times among other disruptive behaviors. Either the parents need to be held accountable for their children’s behaviors or the child should not be allowed to continue with the class until they are able to manage their behavior. It wouldn’t be acceptable in a regular school. Why should it be acceptable in a school/classes that are being paid for? I have to agree with other complaints of disorganization. I don’t think the instructors are clear on the needs of their entire group when teaching and just bunch them together as if they’re all aware of the same knowledge. I’m not entirely sure all the employees have an education on teaching children this young. I also don’t blame them for that either because if they’re not being taught how to manage children of a certain age group they’re not going to have the ability to conduct a class properly. I do believe the issue lies with management. If others are not being taught properly, nothing is going to work in anyone’s favor.

Disappointing Experience with Staff and Refund Policy

I had two very disappointing experience with Big Blue Swim School, particularly with their staff and refund policy. While the facility itself is decent and the instructors seemed capable, the front desk staff and management were unhelpful, dismissive, and inflexible when it came to resolving a canceling and charge issue
Attempts to speak with General Manager was not approachable and no real effort to help.
Unfortunately, Big Blue Swim School made it clear that once they have your money, custom satisfaction is not their concern. I do not recommend anyone going here.

There was lightning and thunder right before our lesson and in previous swim schools, they always canceled lessons or pulled the kids out of the pool during these times. This is also what Tom Dolan Swim did. Here, they didn’t take such precautions. The manager was unable to explain how the pool would be protected in the event of current transfer through the ground. It was not reassuring at all. What measures were taken since this swim school was acquired to protect the swimmers? Was anything new added to the flooring ? Please educate staff. If no additional protections have been added, then why not? In the interest of safety, why not?

The combination of poor organization and inept customer service here at Big Blue is worthy of being the topic of a master's thesis for an MBA.

Our daughter graduated to the next class and instead of updating the system she was left in the earlier group, so when we showed up for the next lesson there was a problem. They made a change on the spot and she was able to take the class. Come next week, we arrive and looks like the same issue is there. Despite the app showing her in the new group (we're told that's her level and not the level of the class she's in, whatever that means) and that the change from the previous week was actually a one of favor they did for us. The group this time was full so we had to return home.

This is just the last instance on top of other issues, like not getting timely notifications that the pool is closed and the class cancelled. Or that while we were out of the country for two months their system on its own scheduled us for not one but two weekly classes that, of course, went missed. Upon discovering this when we returned we received no explanation of how this happened, and no correction. We were only told that we can reschedule missed lessons. Of course by this time half of the vouchers already expired and we had to scramble to schedule as many lessons as we could because the rest were set to expire quickly. After repeated attempts to get an explanation of how this happened, by phone and text, we never received one. And not to even mention any sort of credit for the missed classes.

If you do enroll in this school expect to have to babysit the system full time.

DO NOT be fooled and get locked into a membership through a free trial. They will gladly take your money for longer than you want to give it to them. They will hardly teach your kids anything during the "30 minutes" during classes since your kids can't swim or put their head in the water if they're not being directly worked with. That means they get about 10 minutes of actual swim time. This is all from my personal experience.

Go to Claude Moore. You can pay for a day pass for a family of 5 for $16. Then just get in the pool with them! They'll learn so much more that way.

They will also say they will contact you after you make a complaint and they never will 👍

Swim school is fine. Their billing is absolutely horrendous. I paid for 8 swim lessons for September for my 2 kids. Wasn't happy and told the young lady with the ipad that I do not want anymore lessons moving forward. She told me to log into the app and cancel the auto recurring payment. I pulled up the app in front of her on my phone and showed her I didn't have that option. She said that was odd but that she would take care of it. The following month I was charged $300+ for more lessons. When I called the lady on the phone said there's nothing that can be done since I didn't give 30 days advance notice, she kept repeating herself and I was getting no where. I showed up to the swim school in person to discuss why I was being charged for lessons I didn't sign up for. They said I need to cancel the auto recurring payment, again I showed my app to the guy at the desk and said I don't have the cancel option. He told me to delete the app and re-download it and left the desk. That didn't work. I was charged again Nov 1st $200. Staff is run by kids who don't know how to use their own app or help their customers with it and the help number is even worse. "You didn't give us 30 days notice, oh well, you have to pay". Ridiculous. I'd give 0 stars if I could.

Want to start by saying I do not recommend coming here if you want your kids to actually get a lot of swimming time. We've done 10+ lessons and my children have hardly improved. They earned most of their "milestones" in the first two classes and then were not tested the reat of the time.

Lets do pros and cons...

PROs:
- They offer a free trial lesson and then sometimes they do discount lessons the first time you do a monthly membership
- pretty clean overall
- they have a sitting area with windows or you can sit inside the pool deck area

CONs:
- this is a BIG ONE. *You are locked into the monthly membership* until you email them and tell them you'd like to cancel. They will then count 31 calendar days from your last paid lesson (prior to you contacting them) before they let you stop doing classes. That means if you sign up for the 4 discount lessons and you're not sure if you'll continue, you better cancel right after signing up or you'll have to pay for another full month (sometimes more depending on the monthly calendar) per child and they will not let you drop out earlier. If you only have one child or a ton of money, then its probbaly fine. This set us out over $600 for the month 😫

- lessons are EXPENSIVE for what they are. They get 30 minutes in the pool but they are not allowed to swim unless the instructor says so. This would probably be fine if there weren't 4 students in a small lane per class (usually with one instructor). That means they get about 10 minutes swim time each class 😪 if you have more than one kid, they do not discount anything. You might as well sign up for a membership somewhere for what you pay here. They'll get a lottttt more pool time that way. We could have signed the whole family up for two summers worth of pool passes at local swim places for the amount we paid for 1 month of "lessons".

- they switch instructors often so if your kid likes one, you wont always get the same one.

- pool deck area smells super heavily of chlorine and gets very hot 🥵 even the employees complain about how hot it is in there.

So! Would i ever come back? Nope. Do I regret signing up? Definitely. Not impressed and wasted a lot of money. My suggestion is to sign up with a local pool and get private lessons for the price you pay here OR LESS! They'll learn so much more x.x don't be fooled by the free or discounted lessons.

Our 5-year-old has been attending Big Blue at Dulles for 6 months now. She has thrived in their program. She started out not knowing how to swim at all. In 6 months she has learned the basics of freestyle and backstroke, and now in Bold Blue is learning proper breathing techniques.

Coaches Owen, Mars, Ivy, Martin, and now Jordan have been excellent teachers who are so good with kids. The deck supervisors have all been encouraging and do a great job running the show. We feel like we have an ally in Andres during the evenings and Iz during the mornings.

I give Big Blue's staff and curriculum big kudos. But I will also note that some of the success has been how we as a family have approached the classes. Every week before swim lesson we ask our daughter to listen, to do what the teacher asks, and to focus. When scheduling demands mean her normal teacher isn't available, we don't complain; we trust the new teacher will do their best as they've been trained to.

Both of my boys are progressing quickly through the different levels. We just had trial classes for our two children at Big Blue Swim School in Dulles, VA and it was a great experience. The facility is clean and friendly, and the manager, Nathaniel, went above and beyond to make our family feel welcome and informed. We have been going to big blue for two years now and while I always felt it was worth it, over the years they have gotten even better. The instructors really take the role seriously - working towards goals, giving each other pointers, etc. They are surprisingly so passionate about their work and seem genuinely excited with little accomplishments which makes the experience so much better for the kids.

But most importantly perhaps, my baby could swim to a walk before she was two. It saved us when last summer she jumped in our community pool without a floatie.

Both my kids have been enrolled here since October last year, they enjoy their lessons. The instructors here are very patient and really work at helping the child progress.

After being at a few different swim schools, we found Big Blue Dulles a few years ago and never looked back. The staff and instructors are friendly, positive and encouraging. They are always training and promoting and hiring responsible, encouraging and caring instructors. We always know exactly what our son is working on and can easily track it in the app.
