I've been a member for over 2 years. Melissa has created the perfect mix of laid-back vibes and competitive energy. Great people, great workouts and ocd-level cleanliness.

Great little hidden "gym" to start your day or blow off some steam. Highly recommended for those looking to start CrossFit in the area.

I started my CrossFit journey at MVA and I'm super glad I did. I was welcomed, supported, and relieved to find out not all CrossFit gyms fit the stereotype πŸ˜›
Melissa and crew are fantastic and care about your overall fitness. MVA set the standard for me for the type of gym I like. I've tried other CrossFit gyms since moving from the area and I've only come across 1 that met a similar vibe (CrossFit Herndon). I miss MVA! Highly recommend especially if you're looking to try CrossFit for the first time!

A fantastic gym in every way: owners, coaches, members, philosophy, and facilities. Highly Recommended!

CrossFit MVA takes an informed, healthy, balanced approach to fitness. You will be encouraged to push yourself, learn and use proper technique, and care for your body through mobility exercises, restorative stretching, rest, and a healthy diet. This is a holistic methodology critically important when performing CrossFit/high-intensity interval training (and lacking at many other gyms). Good for MVA!!

The MVA owners and coaches actively engage every member with a very personable and positive attitude, and they are incredibly accommodating to special requests and questions. Members have a wide range of fitness levels – from those brand new to exercising to pro athletes – and everyone is incredibly welcoming, fun, and supportive. Being pretty out of shape and the β€œnew guy”, the members and staff made me feel very comfortable from the onset.

Additionally, the facilities are clean, organized, and outfitted with the full complement of exercise and CF/HIIT equipment. And they incorporate technology (via Beyond the Whiteboard), which I appreciate. So, extra kudos there.

At first, I was skeptical to try CrossFit – having been annoyed by bragging cross-fitters, reports of the many injuries and unhealthy practices, and generally high membership prices – but those impressions were blown away by MVA, and I have been pleasantly surprised and very glad I gave this gym a chance.

I had a great time doing a WOD with coach Melissa, warm up was great, good strength phase and finished with an intense metcon. I struggled with the metcon however Melissa was able to give me a great cue on the pull ups and coaching advice through the dips. The box is well maintained and ownership is top notch.

Melissa is perhaps the best trainer I have ever worked with. She is knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. The facilities are spotless and in a great location.
Thank you, Melissa!

The perfect crossfit gym for the Del Ray neighborhood! The focus of this gym seems to be fitness and wellness in four main areas - Strength, Conditioning, Mobility/Flexibility, and Nutrition. The programming is balanced between strength and conditioning with a comprehensive warm-up and often a mobility cool-down at the end of class. I've played competitive sports at the high school, club, and college level and have been coached by nationally-recognized coaches at all levels - basically, I think I know good coaching when I see it. MVAs owner and head coach Melissa Lopes is one of the best coaches I've ever had - she will kick your butt and make you feel good about it. More importantly, she'll make sure you have proper technique and form and won't hurt yourself. There is an amazing, weekly, hour-long mobility class led by April Scripps that feels good while helping prevent injuries. There is a great nutrition group focused on "eating real food" and not specifically subscribed to one diet or another. This is a fun, growing community and I'm so happy to be back cross-fitting again!
