I have been avoiding gyms for decades. I had a very bad experience with joining one back then and I could not get myself to try again. Then this year, I needed a place to get me on the road to being more fit overall. I tried doing it on my own, but motivation was never fully there.
On my first visit to Exsurgo, the first thing I noticed was that a lot of people there looked like me, which was encouraging. Everyone looked motivated to do their best workout and not looking at judging other members. The owners, Immie and Greg, were super welcoming and Immie was willing to work with my PT to understand my limitations and get the program adapted to them. I joined with my husband and we both have been on board the functional fitness program for over two months now.
Every time I go, I feel that I made the best decision for me and my health. I am meeting super nice people, whether they are on a journey to get more solid like me or whether they are training hard from some of the super difficult races. Everyone looks happy to be there. The functional fitness program is fun and challenging. The gym has more than enough equipment to allow everyone to work out without waiting around.
I would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat!

Deka Atlas made its debut this year, and Exsurgo hosted it to perfection. Everything was well executed, the gym itself was very well maintained (alot of new equipment), and the staff was very friendly. I even made a few new friends from Brazil. I highly recommend choosing this gym when deciding where to do your next Deka (or Halfrox). BTW - the owner of this gym - Immie Cross - is the North American champion for Spartan, Hyrox, and Deka, so its worth the trip just to see her wall of trophies/medals.

With their help and training I not only improved my overall athletic performance, but I improved my abilities to do well, race well, podium and place 3rd in the Spartan Age Group US National Series! Stumbled onto this gym when I was looking into Hyrox . Exsurgo hosted a half distance HYROX which is the only one I’ve seen and was a perfect way to get a baseline idea about the competition. I train with Immie twice a week virtually over Zoom, prompted by recurring knee pain/muscle weakness that limited my ability to jog (or even walk at times). Over the past 1+ year working with her, I have had had excellent results, improving strength and stability in my knees to the point where I was able to run a 10k race last month in my goal time and pain free! She creates tailored, challenging workouts that I can do in my home gym with fairly basic equipment. She is encouraging and flexible. Working with Immie has kept me motivated and accountable, and I appreciate all she has done to help improve my overall health, strength, and mobility!

In the fall, I was looking explore hybrid racing as my next fitness adventure. This is where I found Exsurgo. I walked into the gym, with the walls covered in podium awards and immediately knew that I was in the right place. By far one of the best gyms I have ever been to. I trained for my first Spartan Beast here and wouldn’t have been successful without it. The facility itself is amazing; solid equipment, plenty of space, clean, and has a perfect layout. What really sets this gym apart is the training staff! The trainers are knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely invested in your progress. They helped me build the endurance and strength I needed for race day. The community vibe is another huge plus. Hi, I came to the gym for my 6:30 PM class, but it was canceled without any notification. When I arrived, I saw the gym was open, and other people were training in the 6 PM class. I asked if I could join since I was already there, but Adam told me no. I drove here and spent my time to attend, and it's disappointing to be turned away like this. I hope the gym can improve communication and be more considerate of members’ time in the future.

In about a month of one hour training from Monday to Friday the trainers (Immie, Ray, Adam and Greg) at Exsurgo have helped me recover my strength, resistance, flexibility and more importantly building muscle. I was skinny as my focus was only cardio till I joined them. My resistance for 5K and 10K has improved and my personal records are improving as well, as I stopped because of an injury. Their classes are structured and exercise every part of your body. Below is an example of my results at a 10K in Quantico, VA. I highly recommend joining them.

When it came time to find a new gym, I knew I wanted one with a woman coach. I also had plans of working towards another Spartan trifecta at the time and finding Immie was perfect. I dropped in to Exsurgo and participated in one of the Spartan DEKA Strong events. The gym location is easily accessible from the Ashburn metro station, about a mile walk. They were true professionals in managing the Spartan DEKA event -- registration, music, hype judges, setup of equipment, Spartan swag (medal & tee), and professional quality photos. Immie addressed all of my questions and doubts leading up to the event; she is very responsive and a role model for OCR athletes.

Rare find! This gym has it all.
It's not busy. The staff and owners are very personable. The equipment is new. The place is very clean. They keep it nice and cool. So it is not hot. The trainers are very knowledgeable. The owners are actually accomplished elite athletes. Where else can you get that? They train CrossFit. They train Spartan races. They train Savage Race. They train ultra Marathon. They train marathons. They train running. They train lifting. They train strength. They are experts in overall health, wellness, and fitness. They coach for all sports. There is an advanced strength measuring area that has electronic measuring devices with mobile apps that you can dial in your exact strength as it grows over the time periods. I have never seen a gym that has that. That was worth the cost of admission.

I've been training at Exsurgo Strong and Fit for almost two years now. It's what I need to keep me feeling active and strong, as I like to play a lot of sports. Playing sports means I often have sore elbows and knees but Immie always encourages me up take options to keep my joints feeling good and suggests restorative exercises to help me manage my sports related issues. I also love the community feel at Exsurgo. Everyone is really friendly and supportive and we'll get together to do fun things, like breakfast after our morning workout. I found Exsurgo when I realized I had no idea what to expect signing up for a Spartan race. Most days I join the obstacle course race small group that is designed to prepare you for the race while also giving practice on some of the obstacles from Spartan Elite Immie Cross. She is such a great trainer and coach, she sees every one of us and knows just what we need to take it to the next level.

If you are looking for a safe place to learn what you can do, check it out. There are terrific people there of all fitness levels cheering you on in a safe and fun environment.

I started training at Exsurgo Strong and Fit several months ago and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my personal fitness. The small group training classes focus on functional strength and the variety of exercises keep me engaged and focused throughout. Immie is an absolutely amazing trainer and is always there to ensure proper form and provide assistance when needed. I always feel like I am receiving individual attention during classes.

In addition, the gym also offers barbell club classes which focus on strength training and weight lifting. Garrett is a phenomenal coach with great energy and these classes have been great in providing foundational understanding of weight lifting techniques.

With classes in the mornings and in the evenings, I also appreciate the flexibility Exsurgo provides. It’s easy to go to the gym 3-4 times a week! Highly recommend this gym to anyone who is looking to get strong, lose weight, and pursue their fitness journey!

Exsurgo is the best gym I could have asked for. whether you are a seasoned professional who is looking at achieving higher goals or a beginner like me who had never done strength training before. I was looking into a health improvement journey and I have tried so many gyms before, but I always felt lost. Immie is such a wonderful gym coach to work with. She gives you confidence to slowly build yourself up. She is will push you to do better but at the same time patient with you and let you go at your pace. The workouts help tremendously build smallest muscles in your body and help condition you to have better quality of life in your day to day activities, if you have a problem area, Immie will work around you to provide you with alternates. The group classes are small, so everyone gets good attention to make sure your postures and alignment is proper. If you are not a beginner at weight training, there are advanced classes like obstacle course race training, deka competitions, bar bell classes for you to get your competitive side kick in. If you have a youth in your house that needs to build for the sports they compete in, then this is the place for that too. My 14 year old trains with Greg to improve her running and she loves his fun personality to connect with kids and push them harder. I have never been happier at any gym in my life, but at Exsurgo I feel like I have found my home. I highly recommend this exceptional gym with exceptional and wonderful people who sincerely want the best for you.

When I moved from Arlington to the Ashburn area I was looking for a new gym that offered small group training with both weightlifting and mobility exercises. From the moment I reached out to Exsurgo inquiring about their gym offerings, they were so welcoming!

Immie, one of the the owners and trainers at Exsurgo, immediately invited me to try out a small group class and I loved the variety of strength training exercises (no two classes are ever the same) and the focus on form. I was also invited to do an InBody scan to see my current body measurements and be able to measure progress going forward. From the moment I met Immie, she was interested in getting to know me as a person and help me achieve my fitness goals.

Each week over a cycle has a different focus (i.e. heavier weights or recovery/stretching) which means you never get bored. Since the small group fitness classes are never more than 8 individuals, the coach is able to watch everyone complete the exercises and ensure you are doing them correctly.

The gym is also extremely inclusive and a community, organizing events outside the gym and races to connect people. With classes throughout the week in the morning and evening, it is easy to commit to working out multiple times a week. I am so glad I found Exsurgo (and Immie as a trainer) and cannot wait to continue my training! If you are looking to build strength, increase your mobility, or any other goals, Immie will certainly help you get there. I highly recommend checking out Exsurgo!

Immie is an amazing person and trainer. She helped me gain more confidence and control of my own body. The way she personalizes every rep depending on the person or skill level was hands down the best thing since I know I’m not very athletic and some of these workouts were intense. I definitely saw results coming regularly and consistently. I have had other trainers before but I honestly never saw results and they weren’t the best teachers. But the patience, skills, and dedication Immie has makes you want to push yourself and try to be a better you. If you want a great place to train for OCR or Spartan Deka events you need to check this place out. The rig for OCR is amazing. They have all the equipment you need for OCR and Deka or if you just want to be a fitter version of yourself. Also Immie is a Spartan Pro Athlete. So your getting hands on training from a Pro!

I drove 5 + hours to attend a Deka Mile competition! Totally worth the drive. It was clean, it was well organized. Everything ran on schedule. Equipment is up to date and really nice. Great location too. I can't find anything wrong with the place or its people, except I wish I was closer. I would be there all the time. 1 million stars. 5 is just not enough!

This is a fantastic gym!! Immie is extremely knowledgeable, highly motivated, and awesome to be around she takes an interest in you no matter what fitness level you're at. I really like how she pays attention to each and everyone of her clients and helps us work towards our goals and set new ones.
I go for small group training and highly recommend to anyone who wants to start on strength building journey. It is hard work but I really enjoy the comradeship of the others in our group.

This is probably one of the best gyms if not the best gym I’ve ever been to. I do a lot of Spartan Races and during their obstacle cours training I really see myself growing in strength, speed and technique for the obstacles. The team there is also very welcoming and friendly. It’s a great combination of a place where they will push you in small group training but you’ll also have fun at the same time. I highly recommend this gym!!

Our travel softball team has been doing a series of winter workouts at Exsurgo since January 2021 and the experience has been fantastic. We're seeing improvements across the entire team in strength, balance, body awareness, explosiveness, and more! Coach Greg has really helped our players understand a wide range of exercises and then how to advance those movements, challenging them to improve with each session.

I've also been really pleased with the safety approach that Exsurgo takes, both with workouts and with their space when taking COVID concerns into consideration. Greg always has an eye on ensuring that exercises are being done properly and he provides explanations for why movements should be done a certain way. The space itself is very clean, the staff is diligent about ensuring that temperatures are taken upon entry, hands are washed, equipment is disinfected.

I’m really excited to see our team reap the benefits of the work they’ve put in and the instruction they’ve received once we start play this spring. I would highly recommend Exsurgo for both individual and group training!

Exsurgo, with Greg and Immie, has been a lifeline to bring my teen daughter back to sports after a serious injury. She was a competitive athlete, but we unfortunately spent years marginalizing her injuries. Her muscles became weak and imbalanced as we let her play through aches and sprains. It caught up to her and she suffered a traumatic knee break, requiring two surgeries and a year of physical therapy. Her doctors advised her to give up ALL sports. She was devastated, and became depressed, sedentary and gained weight. Her PT recommended Exsurgo to help her get strength back and prevent
future injuries.

Greg did an initial assessment using his own technology to measure her baseline, and immediately started her rehab to first correct her muscle imbalance. She worked with Greg one on one for a few months, using resistance and strength training to concentrate on all of her weaker stability muscles.She then graduated to join Exsurgo's High School program and started group performance training and weightlifting. She now attends three days a week, and her improvement in strength is extraordinary (all measured and tracked). Greg knows his stuff. He constantly checks and corrects form, and encourages her to do more than she ever thought possible. The workouts are tough, but almost as important, my daughter has soooo much fun.

She's also started nutritional counseling with Immie, including weekly check-ins, texts and even food challenges that they both do...
she has lost weight, all while gaining so much muscle and confidence! Greg and Immie are more than training and nutrition coaches, they really are her 'life coaches'. Against all odds, they got her back playing soccer!!! A year ago she was told to give up EVERYTHING. Now she's playing faster, stronger and more confidently than I've ever seen.

While Exurgo has done so much for my daughter post injury, I do believe that if my daughter had this kind of training as a foundation before, she would not have suffered through years of serious injuries. It would be my advice to all parents not to wait to realize this after rehab, like I did. Start now! I really can't thank Greg, Immie and Exsurgo enough!!!!

I can’t say enough about this place. My husband is a coach for middle school girls and we started bringing our team here about 2.5 months ago. I can’t believe the improvements we are seeing. We specifically wanted to work on strength, speed, reaction times, & agility. Our daughter has already doubled her numbers in strength and all her other metrics have vastly improved. We can hardly wait to see how these numbers transpose to the field. Greg has a plethora of knowledge and his credentials are stellar. Also, Greg has made the classes fun; he can be quite entertaining, yet serious about maintaining good work ethics. Each class he challenges the girls to perform better and move to the next level. He ensures the girls use proper form at all times and is diligent about their safety. Not only is he safe about the physical aspects with form to prevent individual injury, but also with equipment, such as accidents with improper handling or paying attention with others around. He’s also extremely cautious where Covid is concerned, he’s consistent with his methods of temperature taking and disinfecting all equipment after use. They even have a no hands system when entering and leaving the facility to wash and cleanse the hands.
The gym as a whole has everything we need to accomplish our goals. The equipment meets our needs and I am amazed as to how quickly our girls have improved. Things the girls have once found difficult or impossible is now a walk in the park. I am so happy we chose this team to work with. The entire team has been respectful, accommodating, professional, encouraging and results driven. My background is a professional engineer (and I currently maintain an athletic certification) so I’m confident to say I HIGHLY recommend Exsurgo!

We’ve been doing small group training with Immie at Exsurgo for about nine months. The classes are fun and challenging but manageable. Immie provides a wide variety of exercises to keep things interesting and challenging. Each class is a bit different; a typical class might involve multiple trips through a couple of different timed circuits of eight exercises. The circuit usually includes some cardio exercises – like rowing or skiing or jumping rope; some resistance training – like weight training (with barbells, dumbbells, or kettlebells) or body weight exercises (like pushups or TRX exercises); and some exercises for building your core. It’s a great overall workout that hits strength as well as cardio.

This is a great gym! Immie is upbeat and personable, as well as a great coach. She encourages you to work hard but smart, and excels at cueing and coaching the exercises. Class size is limited to six, so there’s plenty of room to spread out; they’re serious about their Covid protocol.

They wear masks and are so accommodating with the virtual training they offer if I cant be there. I would also say they are more than trainers and coaches but also friends. If you are searching for a good Spartan or OCR training gym, or just want to improve your health in an enjoyable way, I strongly urge a visit to Exsurgo to see how they can help you attain your goals.

My Dad’s recent triple bypass was a wake-up call to take concrete action regarding health. Discovered Obstacle course (OCR) and Spartan racing as a fun way to get out on the race trails, but also excellent way to get off the couch and towards healthier lifestyle. After failing numerous obstacles at first Spartan race (rope climb, monkey bars, Z wall, multi rig rings) realized I needed help. So I then methodically looked at/visited ALL of the crossfit/ninja/OCR gyms in the NoVa area. After close comparison, decided on Exsurgo and 100% the right decision.

Exsurgo has all of the right OCR/Spartan equipment/facilities, including rope climb, rings, monkey bars. Greg is constantly building new obstacles to keep us challenged and improving – some specific examples are a Hercules hoist and 'gorilla' bars that are tougher than the actual obstacle. So what you encounter on the actual OCR course is easier than what you’ve been practicing. Exsurgo’s secret ingredient is that it is run by Spartan champion Immie Cross. Immie has the coaching experience, training and patience to get someone from starting point to sustained success on the OCR trail. From assessment to ongoing training to post-race evaluation and training adjustment, she consistently guides each Exsurgo member on their respective paths to success (everyone has different Spartan/OCR goals, and she adapts training and prep to each path.) Also, the Exsurgo members comprise an energetic, supportive community that share best strategies and tactics for Spartan/OCR races.

Since starting at Exsurgo, I can now easily do rope climb [instead of automatic fail, now focused on how quickly I can climb the rope], monkey bars and Z-wall, and on track to master the rings. What a great gym! I had not worked out in years and was struggling with a few injuries as well as Osteopenia so the prescription was weight training. I was afraid of getting hurt, being to sore to move the next day etc. NONE of that occurred. Immie kept me on a slow and steady program to increase my strength as my body could handle it. Not once did I feel I wanted to cancel because I didn't feel like going and that is a first for me! I highly recommend Exsurgo Strong and Fit for people of all ages. They really take their time and are serious about helping you become the best you can be rather than throwing you into a group workout and trying to make you do what everyone else does.

I have been going to Exsurgo since July. I am incredibly satisfied and happy with the way Immi and Will are personally invested in ensuring that I stay on track with my strength goals and general well being. If you're looking for trainers who really know what they are doing, Exsurgo is most definitely the place for you. Immie and Greg are very professional, great people, and take very good care of their clients. Even have training sessions with Will on Saturdays and he gives great fitness insight and advice, and is great to work with. I dont think i've ever been to a better gym than here!

Exsurgo is the Best personal training and obstacle course race training facility, hands down!!! I can't say enough great things about Exsurgo, the members and the trainers. Immie and Greg are amazing and extremely knowledgeable trainers. They take the time to get to know you as an individual and tailor the workout plan to meet your personal needs. I personally joined Exsurgo about 8 months ago and began the OCR small group training with Immie. My goal was to achieve my first ever Spartan trifecta and that's exactly what I did. Honestly, Exsurgo has changed my life for the better, not only do I receive a challenging top notch workout each week, but I have also made friends for life. I have been taking Immie’s OCR training classes for over a year now and I have also done personal training with Greg. Immie’s programs are designed to help improve overall strength, speed and grip strength to help conquer those race obstacles. My race performance has really improved over the last year. I really enjoy taking the classes and have gotten to be friends with the other people in the classes. We take an active interest in each other's races and cheer each other on. I really love the camaraderie of this group. Greg is such an attentive personal trainer, with an eagle eye, always making sure I was using correct form and helping to work around some of my joint issues. They both really care about getting you stronger and in better shape. If anyone is looking for custom or personal attention in their workouts, I highly recommend Exsurgo.
