We waited 5 months on a waitlist for a weekend preschool class. I received an email one week ago noting our spot had become available and to call their office within 24 hours to secure the spot. I called two times (left two voicemails) and sent two emails within that 24 hour period with zero response. Why am I being rushed and expected to meet a deadline when they don't offer the same respect to a parent?

Over the course of the following days, I continued to call and email. Nobody answers their phones. I did miss two calls from them due to my own scheduling conflicts (work and a doctor appt), but every single time I have tried to call back... countless times... I get voicemail. I also received an email from them saying they were willing to answer questions over email but yet they didn't (I have posed questions twice to them now) and they simply haven't responded since.

So I guess they gave away our spot? Communication doesn't seem to be even remotely decent and that's a big red flag for me - can't imagine how it would be to handle other minor things down the line.

Disappointed in our experience here. There is zero communication with the coaches regarding your child’s progress or experience unless there was a behavior issue during class. We’ve been going here since August 2024 and I’ve never even spoken to my child’s coach. Parents are not allowed in the gym at all unless you’re in the under 3 class. Coach Roger, the owner, is very direct and brash about this, but we took it in stride and tried not to be overly protective of our oldest child. There are two small, screened windows to view the gym from the outside so it’s nearly impossible to see anything. There are cameras that can be viewed from the website during your child’s class time, but again, it’s a small view and there is no sound. My child typically takes a few classes to warm up to new experiences, so it was tough the first two classes as she didn’t fully participate and they seemed irritated by it, but again, parents are not allowed in the gym to assist with acclimating to a new environment. During tonight’s class (Nov 20), I received a call after 40 minutes, and was told my child wasn’t participating and needed to leave to “get some rest”. I was outside waiting so I went in where I was told by a young male coach that my child got in an argument with another child and was no longer participating. Seeing as my child is 5, this doesn’t seem unusual for the age. When I looked in the gym, my child was standing quietly. I was told to go into the gym to help remove her. As I walked up to my child, Coach Kim (not my child’s coach, but part owner of the gym) looked at me and threw her hands in the air saying “she needs to go! She has disrupted this entire gym!”. My child standing quietly began to cry because she didn’t want to leave class early. I was not offered an explanation of what happened other than what my child told me. Seeing how Coach Kim spoke to me in front of the entire gym leads me to believe she likely had far worse to say to my child when I was not present. This gym is great for anyone who thinks their 5 year old is an Olympian who needs harsh guidance, however, our family will not be returning. I regret I didn’t trust my gut the day I discovered parents could not enter the gym to simply watch their child enjoy a sport that they pay for.

My 3-year old daughter was showing interest in gymnastics so we decided to sign her up for a trial class with Fairfax Gymnastics Academy ($25). The website and sign up process was fairly straightforward and my conversation with them (via email) answered all of my questions. This is where the good things end. When it was time for my daughter to attend her trial, she was naturally a bit apprehensive. They have a strict "no parents in the gym" rule so my wife was unable to console her and help her feel included. Since my daughter was not actively participating in the class and apparently causing a "disruption" to the other students, the instructor dismissed her from the class before she could even get a chance to do anything. When I asked them for a refund since my daughter was unable to participate, they mentioned that the owner would get back to me but they never did. Our experience might have been different if our daughter had some prior gymnastics experience. For beginners, however, I would absolutely not recommend this facility and instead look elsewhere.

Bit disappointed. I paid $285 for the fall 2's program for my daughter. They do not offer a trial class so I had to jump right into the full price. We did one class just to see that it was all just a bit too much for her tiny size and age (she just turned 2 and is 19 pounds and just a tiny child) the class level was all just a bit too far above a 2's level I don't want to force her and turn something that should be fun into something that she hates going to.
After the first class I immediately emailed the owner giving him this information and was told that I would still have to pay many fee's etc etc. Long story short, I ended up only being refunded $180. So I paid $105 dollars just to do one class and quickly see the demands for toddlers is just too much for your average two year old. Very disappointed to pay so much for basically a trail class.

Daughter did a week long summer camp and really had fun. The staff are very nice. Been trying to get into a weekend class but they are popular with a super long wait list.

I have been going to Fairfax Gymnastics Academy for almost 15 years. I started out in classes, which are coached by great people that made the process of learning gymnastics really enjoyable! I soon joined the competitive girl team and fell in love with the sport even more. Coach Sami and Coach Kim are one of a kind! They create such a fun and loving environment, while guiding their gymnasts to achieve great things. Aside from the girls competitive team, FGA has a wide variety of classes to choose from, which are coached by people with great experience and knowledge of the sport.

They helped me so much. I was doing flips in the basement and my mom felt like I should have more space so she took me to Fairfax. I went from back walkover on floor to back handspring on beam competing level 6 the coaches are very nice and help me to understand and get better thank you Fairfax!

It's not a welcoming place.. so not recommending for "new" athletes. I have a very shy, introverted 5 YO. When we visited the place for the first time just to spectate, one of the staff told us to watch outside because parents (me) are not allowed in the building. I asked the staff if we could stay and watch until my kid got a little comfortable, but she was very adamant. We ended up stepping outside only to find out that the windows were tinted, and we could not see the inside. Still giving 3 stars for doing her job... the approach can be improved as well as the facility 🙂 Hope it helps.

Owner is extremely rude. I walked into the building to peek in on my daughter and he told me I had to leave, no parents allowed. COVID era policy still in place. I explained I thought that a bit odd, my 9 year old daughter is in there. He sat right down at the computer and said he could unenroll her and give me a refund right away if I didn’t like it. I said I’d think about it, and he told me to “think about it outside” WOW.

I have two daughters who have gone to Fairfax Gymnastics Academy for over a year now. We tried two other gyms in the area and we are extremely satisfied with Fairfax Gymnastics Academy. The coaches are great with young children and my girls love going to practice. Roger is very responsive either by phone or email, and we can enroll all online very easily. Bonus points for having a facility with heat and cooling (and yes there are gyms in Northern VA that did not have this which is concerning). I would highly recommend this facility if you are looking for quality instruction at reasonable prices.

Absolute rude people. They might be great in coaching gymnastics but they are in serious need of coaching on how to talk to people. Send your kids there if you want them to become horrible rude people who have no social sense at all.

Communication has been terrible....nothing for two years straight - not even a call back. Horrible customer experience.

We were never able to see a single class and no one has ever given us any indication of what her path would be.

Everyone is still required to wear masks...joke.

There's no parking...the building seems likes it's surrounded by a junkyard.

The place is a dump and smells like a silverback gorilla's armpit.

Had a horrible experience with the boys gymnastic coach. My son used to love gymnastics and about a month before we quit he started not wanting to go. I thought it was a phase until the coach pulled me aside after class told me he had held my son's hands on the equipment, and then yelled at my son for complaining that he was hurting him. If the conversation had been one of concern and trying to figure out what the problem was I would have thought it was an accident, but it was basically this coach just yelling at me at how frustrating my 7 year old was to him. I'm not even mad at the coach or the gym anymore, I'm more mad at myself for subjecting my kid to that coach.

My 7yo son just started a class at this gym last week. So far the staff has been great and he has really enjoyed it. We did a walk in and he was able to join a class for a trail that same day and then we signed right up for the weekly class. He loves it and can’t wait to go back.

For serious gymnasts only! They take training here very seriously, and the strictly utilitarian nature of the gym is a testament to their work ethic. All of the coaches are nice, very professional, and very well trained. We hosted a birthday party here one year and I wouldn't recommend it. While it was perfectly fine, you can get more bells and whistles for the same amount of money at other locations. You go here to train to be a gymnast, and not for much else.

If your child is serious about gymnastics I do not recommend! Classes are too large with little instructions or corrections during the class. Otherwise they have great equipment and set up...

We love Fairfax Gymnastics! Both my 6 y.o. and 4 y.o. go here, and they love their classes and teachers. The owners are delightful to deal with and they truly care how the kids are doing and whether they are in the correct gymnastics level for the child's skill, ability, and age. We've been going here for over a year, and oddly enough my mother took my sister here about 12 years ago. Then, it was the same wonderful owners; same wonderful experience.
(ps. whoever wrote that truly terrible review had an axe to grind that had nothing to do with the gym, but sounds like a personal issue)
