We played 18 holes yesterday on the Blue Heron course and had a fantastic time. The course was in great shape, and the staff both in the pro shop and out on the course were absolutely phenomenalβfriendly, professional, and welcoming. Everything about the golf experience itself was top-notch.
The only downside came when we stopped at the bar for a drink before heading out. Unfortunately, the Old Fashioned was one of the worst weβve had, and at $39.99 with tax for two drinks (before tip), we expected much better. It was served in a small rocks glass with standard cubed ice, the cherry and orange were muddled together, the sweetener used was overly syrupy, and the bitters were far too strong. On top of that, the drink wasnβt balancedβthe alcohol sat on top, while the syrup settled at the bottom. It might just have been how it was made that day, but it didnβt reflect the same level of quality as the golf experience.
Overall, Iβd highly recommend Fordβs Colony for the golf and staffβjust maybe stick to beer or wine at the bar.

Well, yesterday was one for the books! NOT OUR FIRST TIME! We played Blackheath Ford Colony (Williamsburg, Virginia) and the cart cut off several times. Once during the round when it cut off, we called the Pro Shop and they remotely restarted the cart, an inconvenience but not a big problem. No, we were not in the wrong area of the Course. The last time it cut off, we called the Pro Shop when Blake and Andy answered the call, accusing us of being in the Parking Lot (we were not) and wanted to know if we were Members. The response was, we are on our way from Hole 18 to cart return, we are not on the parking lot and we are a paying customer and not sure what membership has to do with a cart that is stuck in the middle of the cart path. Since we were not Memberβs, he hung up on us. Several other carts passed us, heading in the same direction to the cart return area. Well, he continued to argue and then he hung up the phone. During this time, another employee who was taking several carts to be charged attempted to assist and he discovered that the cartβs battery was dead, he put it in tow mode and suggested we push it with the other cartβthat is how we got the cart back to the cart return area. Went into the Pro Shop and things did not go well, probably because we were WOMEN. I should also add that shortly after our cart cut off for the last time, another cart of Women who were Members experienced the same thing. It is unfortunate to that the Memberβs that we ran into said to not take it personal because Andy is known for being rude to everyone and all the Memberβs know it. One Member said that is the reason that she has not rejoined. This was also reported to Marriott as it was their recommendation. Until things change in the Pro Shop, this Course is not recommended!

We played the black heath course today, and while the greens and fairways are in great shape, the quality of service was not there. There should be a starter at each course, not out where the pro shop is. The starter gave us the go ahead only to find there was a group at the tee box waiting, and another group came to tee off at the same time as us. It felt like groups were just teeing off as they pleased. As a local WBurg resident, there are better options.

We ate and had drinks. 4 of us. My Portobello sandwich had a 2x2 mushroom on it and 2 of my oysters were bad fishy smelling. Drinks were good. Dinner special and quesadillas were delicious but very small portions. Location and atmosphere awesome. Very comfortable seats after golfing.

We spent this week in Williamsburg golfing. The time I spent with my buddies on 2 of their courses was well enjoyed. The club house restaurant had delicious options and the staff was very attentive. Blue Heron was in crazy good condition. Black Heath could use some water from the sprinkler because the ground was hard as heck. Otherwise the greens were super smooth and I give a total hats off to the staff and club.

This country club offers everything - clubhouse, restaurants, driving range (mats), top quality carts, and two semi-private courses (we played Blue Heron). The course was a lot of fun to play, with good challenges around every corner, but a very playable course that was in really good condition for early spring. the bar and restaurant offered great drinks and good dinner specials for after the round. Definitely a great place to start the season.

Played the Blue Heron course- tee box are in bad shape- greens were aerated recently and have not fully recovered. Bunkers had lots of water in them from a recent rain. No GPS in carts, which would greatly help play. We saw a beverage cart once! The course is Ok but they charge a premium price. Would recommend looking at other courses or play the Marsh Hawk course.

I have played numerous courses throughout Williamsburg and would rate the blue heron course at Ford's Colony as okay. The views are great and the traps are well maintained but the course and greens were just average. They claimed that the greens were fast but no one in my group thought they were. In fact, they were much slower than most other courses we have played. I wish I could give you a recommendation for their Blackhearth course but apparently there are no tee times available for outsiders. Every time I call (at least a week out) they always throw us on the Blue Heron course.

This is a beautiful club with three great golf courses, great staff, and good food! I got an excellent tour when thinking about becoming a member here. While I still am interested, I am holding off as of now because they donβt have many young professionals there. Itβs a majority retired population.

No ranger and 1 beverage cart for 27 holes. Called the pro shop twice in a 5 hour round with an open course. Never sent anyone out with the head pro and two assistants in the pro shop. Golf pros is folding shirts at this course. After 15 years of managing courses, itβs an embarrassment to the PGA.

Place is a joke when it comes to food. We had 30 guys come down to play 36 a day. We couldn't even get a hot dog or burger. But they did have a 60$ buffet. That doesn't work making the turn. Or when you 15 minutes going right back out. This is the second time this has happened to us here. We will not be back. I offered 20$ for hamburger off buffet. They declined. So we raced to Wendy's to grab a bite. Courses are nice. Limited bathrooms on course. Not usually a problem. But every hole is lined with homes.

It's Ok. It used to be pretty darn good. Then it got bought by some corporation in Florida and everything went downhill. The staff in the restaurants are very nice and work hard, but the food has been hit or miss for years now. I cannot stand golf so I have no comments on that. The grounds are well kept but in the summer the near constant buzz of leaf blowers and lawn mowers is utterly maddening.

We had the 2023 Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame induction there Saturday November the 4th. The facility is impressive from the outside with plenty of parking. It is well laid out on the inside to facilitate events like ours which included a gathering and registration location, a reception, dinner, and follow on reception. The staff was well trained and friendly. For our event, the meal was buffet style. The food was good, hot and fresh. Fords Colony Country Club will be at the top of our list for consideration for next yearβs Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Ford colony courses are absolutely gorgeous, but their pro shop communication skills are AWFUL. . We were there for a week & booked our last day for a tee time. When we showed up, we're told the course we booked on was for members only. Then the other two courses had tournaments & had no tee times available. If this was mentioned when we booked, we would have made other arrangements. Totally frustrated!!! We had to play at another course so were not happy. Please make sure you staff knows what is available & what isn't. We have been coming here for many years & had great experiences until this year. Very unhappy!!!!!

Took off work this past Tuesday (3/21) and played Blue Heron with out of town relatives. We all have never been to Ford's Colony before. It was beautiful with three full length 18 hole courses, that are right up there with a PGA style course as seen on TV!
The reason for 3 stars? There was nothing (*NOTHING*) on the course as far as amenities. No cart girl, no ice water jugs, etc.... no shack shop at the turn.... N-O-T-H-I-N-G... :(
Honest? We played 18 holes with no lunch no water and were getting dehydrated!
The other reason for 3 stars? (well, it's not actually the courses fault...) The style of the course, the greens, were WAY out of my league! I know I kind of suck with a 20 handicap, but still... OMG, this course kicked my a$$!!

UPDATED after playing the Blackheath course again on September 19th.
After playing the course in late March and finding it in excellent condition, I was expecting even better conditions following a Summer of growth of the Bermuda fairways. However, after playing it yesterday, I was a bit disappointed in some of the conditions. In general the tee boxes are excellent, the fairways are tight from all the cart traffic, the bunkers vary greatly from unplayable to soft white sand, and the bent grass greens were very beaten up (tons of ball marks) and holding on.
Frankly the greenskeepers have done well to keep them vibrant during the Summer months, but I thought by now they would be recovering. They are keeping them soft and wet, which creates a lot of damaging ball marks - many left unrepaired. That said, they generally rolled well, just not near as good as in the Spring.
The fairways are packed and tight from cart traffic making it tougher for players having to hit longer irons or fairway woods.
I love the course layout. It is visually appealing and although there is a lot of water, much of it does not come into play. The staff is welcoming and friendly.
Note 2 added photos: #8 Par 3, and #17 Par 4 - a great hole!
*******************
We played the Black Heath course on March 22nd. Despite 12 holes with water it is very playable as there is plenty of room to hit the ball. The greens were in great shape and played well. The green complexes had bunkers but plenty of areas for simple chip shots. The fairways were still a bit damp but well cared for and in good condition.
We liked the warm up area to be excellent. The staff was friendly and the course Marshall offered water when he came by us. All in all a 5 Star experience and a course we will play again.
The photos show #12 a par 3 and #18 which features an island green. Keep it right off the tee and you'll have an easy approach!

Well over priced for a mediocre golf course at best. Williamsburg National is in much better shape. The greens on the Blackheath course are appalling and in horrible shape. Ball marks all over them like there was just a storm of golf ball sized hail! If I wasn't an owner and played it for free, I would be furious!

We loved working with Ford Colony Country Club's Director of Private Events Kristin Collins through the wedding day planning process. She was very responsive, flexible and helped us navigate through any issue that stymied our planning. We are extremely grateful and thankful to her and her team to make our wedding venue and wedding forever memorable for us and our guests. Our wedding was a huge success in part due to Ford's execellent team and we are so elated that we chose Ford's Colony Country Club as our wedding venue. The Garden Pavillion is absolutely breathtaking during evening and is a perfect venue for cocktail parties and receptions! Our guests loved the bar setup and seating arrangement on the dock outside the Garden Pavillion. The appetizers that were served prior to our wedding ceremony were loved and appreciated by our guests. Country Club's dining hall was chosen for our wedding ceremony and we couldn't have been happier with the ceremony's venue. Plenty of light in the hall. We highly recommend this venue for any couple who's looking into getting a wedding of their dreams! Staff is very responsive, helpful and professional!

Nice place !!! Beautiful course, except that the Manager is kind of a jerk. I was playing 18 holes yesterday, May 13, 2022, but the rain come so I go in the pro-shop and ask if there is anything can be done since I am out of town. He did approve a cash refund, which is fine, but I do not need a lecture from him about the weather and rules of play regarding raincheck and refund. After all, customer goodwill and gentleman like should be top priority. The receptionist and her supervisor is super nice, but the one who approves the refund is not.

2nd year playing 3 rounds of golf here. I came back as I had a wonderful experience in 2020. However, I didnβt think the staff did a great job this year welcoming beginning golfers on the course. While I had supportive players that were paired with me, it seemed the late starts and pace of other players was acceptable but someone learning the sport is problematic to the flow. It was an issue apparently for them 1 out of the 3 days I played this week. So much for the marketing βfun for everyoneβ on the website. I gave up and left the course at hole 12.

My group of 20 just played all three Ford's Colony courses on our annual trip. As per usual, wonderful courses, but poor administration on site. While head pro Woods was helpful, his staff is less than courteous to non-members and the bagboys and cart set-up is atrocious. Caution - two courses have Bermuda greens and the other is bent. Be sure to warm up on the proper practice green. Also, the outdoor dining area was grossly under staffed and the snack bar was closed. Management is greatly hampering a fine set of courses.

Great golf course! We played one of the three courses they offer and it was awesome! There was water on 13 of the 18 holes (mostly not in play), the fairways were wideish and the greens were perfect! The outside staff was very friendly (wish I could say the same for the inside staff, but maybe they were just having a bad day). Williamsburg has a ton of golf and Ford's Colony is a great option. The courses are definitely not for the faint of heart, if you're a high handicapper I'd recommend NOT playing here. The locals and members are not too keen on waiting for you to play and the houses are big and play very close to the fairways.
