The GM Lynn was very rude & had a “matter of a fact” tone in her voice as I was inquiring to join and very short with options. Also, she seemed very territorial when I greeted one of the male workers that I know outside of the gym. In general, her demeanor was very unprofessional & I’d imagine would discourage many more than myself from joining which is bad for business. Good thing there are more gyms in the area as I will be taking my business elsewhere. The only reason I gave a 1 star is because she referred me to other local gyms to sign up with. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM. They will attempt to trap you in the contract and you will be unable to cancel it. The owner believes this is justified because the membership contract is deliberately written to make cancellation nearly impossible, which makes the owner believe they are "telling" you and to "just read the terms", which they believe somehow makes it less of a scam. Look up "Golds Gym Arboretum Scam" on Reddit from 2 years ago and you'll see this has been a sustained practice from this gym. Gym ownership culture in this country is to be as scummy as possible to keep memberships, and this owner will take full advantage of that and YOU.

This is a pretty good gym, I tend to go really early in the mornings well before I'm actually awake so I appreciate that I get a friendly wave or smile but not a lot of chatter when walking in.

The cleaning lady they have on staff at that time is almost to good cause she is everywhere and wiping down everything, especially the women's locker rooms which is a wonderful change from most gyms ive been to. They also do a good job of keeping cleaning rags and spray bottles around the different areas in small bins so there's more access.

The equipment they have isn't top of the line but still gets the job done and the gym itself is massive so you can find pretty much anything you want to.

I also love that they have a women's only area. It isn't large and sort of cramped but it's nice to have and I love that they have a separate sauna in the women's locker room itself.

I can't speak to the billing due to the fact I paid the entire year upfront and have no plans of cancelling my membership any time soon.

Over all, it seems like they take the feedback they receive in reviews and fix what they can and are doing it well. I'm excited that I found this gym.

The gym itself has nice equipment and amenities although their hours are not 24/7. I wish I had more positive things to say than negative but after being with this gym for over a year, I find more cons than pros especially with their billing and payment department. Their system tries to take my payments prematurely and most times for 3x the amount. The bill isn’t due until the 29/30th yet I’m being charged prematurely.

The price to use ACH (credit card processing) resulted in a higher fee than the gym memberships who have their accounts available via routing number. I will NEVER put anything with this company on auto pay because it’s not certain the amount taken will be accurate and they will NOT refund any money. I pay cash every month , yet still go through card issues lol. Go figure

Compared to most of the gyms in Richmond, it makes more sense to stay here or simply go to another franchised Golds Gym because the quality for what you’re paying everywhere else doesn’t match what you'll get at this location, you just don’t have 24/7 to enjoy it.

Also, don’t expect to create meaningful relationships with management or staff. The friendliest and most welcoming person in the gym is probably Carlos who does boxing training. Hats off to him, he always has a smile on his face and interacting with members of ALL walks of life. Management seems to focuses on management not relationship building (unless maybe you have an issue or paying for PT) and the staff, here today, gone tomorrow. The younger ladies at the front desk are pretty pleasantly though, so cheers to that…
Cleanliness is also a pro here. Very rarely am I laying in months old hair, fur and whatever else gym equipment and floors accumulate. So cheers to that also.

This location has definitely come up. The gym is clean and open. Since they hired their new opener, I’ve been very constant. In all honesty, The pure smile with eye contact from her is very welcoming. The professionalism my wife and I experienced was outstanding. She handled our billing issue thoroughly. We did not understand the three dollar extra convenience fee as we had never seen it posted before. She did great explaining it. I believe her name was Lacey.

Stay away from this gym. Facility is just ok. The real issue is the billing company. I walked into Golds Gym Arboretum to cancel my membership. I was given the phone number for Taft Services. I called them and I was told I had to email a 30 day Cancellation Request. Someone was supposed to email me back to confirm but never did. So I was charged again after the 30 day window. It makes no sense I sent multiple emails and did everything I was supposed to. I can’t afford to pay 37.99 for a gym membership I’m not even using. It’s all just very scummy. I don’t want to get lawyer involved but if nothing changes then I will. Do. Not. Get. A. Membership. Here.

I really enjoyed it here when I used to come. I even signed up for personal training. However, canceling my membership has been a very tedious process. I called and spoke with a representative, and I was informed to come in and sign some paperwork and discuss my cancelation. Next, I came in to sign the paperwork, but I was informed to call a phone number to cancel (20 min waste of a drive). Then, I called the phone number and was told to send an email... If my membership is not canceled in a timely manner, I will dispute charges with my bank.

Golds at the Arboretum is the best gym I’ve been a member of. Tons of equipment and machines, never really have to wait to use anything or alter my planned workout. My only criticism is that the music is too loud, especially in the weight room. If my phone is telling me to turn my headphones down because the decibel level is too high and can damage my hearing and i can still hear the gyms music over top of that, Im sorry but it’s too loud.

Been going for a while seen a decline in the condition of equipment and attitudes of attendants Left a gray under armor ball cap by accident. I called when I noticed it was not in my gym bag. Lady asked where I left it I said last had it in locker room. She answered I can’t go in there. I went there in person attendant said he saw it in locker room. Not there now. It obviously was stolen. We've been going to this gym for about 2 months now. The equipment is in good shape and there's a lot of it so it never feels overly crowded. And as a swimmer I'm really glad it has a pool.

The only reason I don't give it five stars is it always feels a little bit warm or stuffy. I'd like to see them increase the air flow. Perhaps in the summer when the AC is at full blast that will help.

The staff is friendly and always helpful. The locker rooms are clean. And the people at the gym are friendly.

It's a super location. Easy access to the Powhite. We also like that it's on Midlothian turnpike because we find ourselves going out there often for shopping anyway.

Let’s make Gold’s Gym Arboretum “great again”, I have noticed a diverse group of new hires, Front Desk Associates/Personal Trainers, that’s a great start. However, the downside, I would advised Management to be more discerning when promoting existing staff to membership sales. Promote someone of integrity and character , not a fraud, masked as good. I don’t think membership sales staff should petition members to write and submit positive reviews making sure to mention their name in the review. Members should submit reviews based on their personal experience at the gym, not per membership sales request, who actually did nothing personally for the member, as it relates to the gym, which is my reason for editing and revising previously submitted review, which was created by staff member from my phone. Gym equipment and facility is okay, however it could benefit from an upgrade. Gym location is good, however there has been parking lot incidents of break ins which is concerning. If issues are addressed accordingly, Gold’s Arboretum can be a great place to workout. Revised review 4/17/24

Pretty scummy experience for someone who isn’t die hard gym goer. Facilities are nice and the equipment is usually open somewhere but it doesn’t come without its fair share of frustrations. The front desk employees are never not on their phone and I get that, Ive worked similar positions , but it’s like your asking for their first born child when you need something from them, at their job. Which is crazy considering the management office is in eye sight. Went to cancel cause I wasn’t having the best experience nor did I feel respected by more than maybe 2 individuals which I genuinely wish I could commend for their kindness, but surprise surprise “our billing company doesn’t want us handling this part of the process” so you get to do it all on your own! Yay! Didn’t inherently care about that until I was literally handed a scrap peice of paper with a phone number as if this was the first time anyone has cancelled with them, only to call said phone number and be referred to an email that I must personally send to submit my cancellation, maybe just give me the email to begin with? Quite frankly both were things you’d expect a company you’d just spent hundreds of dollars with over multiple years to do for you out of respect but their is the underlining issue. I’m sure some enjoy this location more than I, but if you are on the fence about a gym membership maybe just invest in some dumbells before this specific golds.

When really, it was hey here is a 30 day window so we can still charge you the yearly service fee. The gym is great but Taft billing services is horrible. They told me my membership was cancelled in October 2023 but have been charging me membership fees since then. When I called to try and rectify the situation and get a refund they informed me there is no recourse and I have to pay for an extra month in addition to the $120 in membership fees they’ve already charged me because it takes 30 days to cancel a membership. Why am I financially responsible for the misinformation I received in October and the amount of time it takes them to “process” a cancellation?

The WiFi sucks, just literally doesn’t work, the woman’s room is small and doesn’t have enough equipment. It’s not really worth the $30 a month when it’s just like any other gym. Also I hate that the equipment to work on your abs is in another small room close to the exit? It’s just a weird layout. I also strongly dislike that when you sign up it’s only for this specific gym :( the one on Hopkins is better. I feel like for $30 a month plus that $80 annual fee you should be able to go to any golds gym within your area.

Today they broke into my car and stole everything that was in there in the parking lot of this gym and the worst thing is that I asked for help and no one did, I asked for cameras and there aren't any. It's incredible that they don't care about their clients, it was 2 in the afternoon when this happened. Be careful, this place is very dangerous and there are no cameras anywhere.
