I've never been so disgusted with a business before. You make me wait 7-10 business days to cancel my membership, when you give me 5 days notice that you're closing? The manager wasn't even there when I wanted to find out some info on my cancelation. Had to talk to the general manager Josh who just couldn't be bothered with me and was completely unprofessional. He had no knowledge on anything, which is probably why the gym is failing. The epitome of poor management and now they're trying to foot us the bill. & they transferred my membership to Sterling, who gave them permission to do that? Will never spend a dime at a gold's gym again

Wow, short notice with the gym closure!!! Way to stick us with one more charge to our accounts without giving us enough time to give cancellation or freeze!!! Terrible customer service- aka shady business practice. NONE of the optional locations are convenient for some people but ya still gonna ding us. Promise of new gym in the ‘future’ with no timeline.
Too many other gym options out there Gold’s- shame on you

I have very much enjoyed my time working out at this location but I am extremely disappointed with the lack of notice in closing the gym and being transferred to a different location without my consent. It is impossible to reach anyone from the gym or Taft Services who can assist me in cancelling my membership. I should not have to wait 7-10 days to have my request to cancel my membership processed when the gym provided me with 5 days notice that they were closing in the first place.

Total trash, can't believe they gave everyone only days notice that their lease was expiring and this location closing. And they had the audacity to automatically transfer peoples memberships to sterling to suck up more money. Newsflash, nobody is driving to Sterling. Golds has tons of competition in Ashburn. They dont even have a new lease signed, such a scam to keep charging people. Do the right thing and cancel all memberships. I bet money that they will keep billing and hassle people.

I have visited many gyms over the last several months because I have been traveling all over the country. This Ashburn gold's gym is without question the best gym I have been to. They have an enormous amount of equipment and it's all in great working order. They have great cardio machines as well as great strength training machines. They also have an enormous and very clean swimming pool. The employees at this gym are extremely helpful and professional. The general manager, Josh, is a great guy and he does an excellent job managing this gym. There is an employee here named Ty who is the hardest working gym employee I have ever seen. I am extremely impressed with this 18-year-old employee because he is constantly on the go racking weights and making sure that everything is in its proper place. This is the best gym in the country

Most businesses in the area have gone back to their normal hours, I don't understand why Golds is still under pandemic hours. All you're doing by cutting hours is forcing people who come in late to come in earlier. And all that does is crowd the gym more.

Started going to this Golds a few months ago and it’s been great so far amidst the pandemic. It’s nice and always clean. They provide sanitizer bottles and towels for everyone. I have had one personal training session with Moe after I got my membership and he is awesome! The overall vibe is great and the staff is very nice. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a gym!

I’ve been going to this gym since I moved back to the area and I have only good things to say about it. Great layout and offers everything you could want and more. The staff are exceptional and trainers are even better. If you are looking for a trainer I recommend Moe! He is awesome and will get you to your goal.

First I’ll start by saying that is by far the best Gold’s gym in the area, honestly. I’ve been a member for a few years now & I like this location best because of the layout, equipment variety and overall atmosphere :) it’s a big gym but not boxy, as to where everything is in one room which can be intimidating for some.

Over time I have had the pleasure of actually utilizing the many different amenities and programs Gold’s has to offer, from the Group fitness classes, Team training/personal training; and, pre Covid- the hot tub, sauna, steam room just to name a few.

There’s multiple training turf areas & a training room just for training classes which are fun! All of the personal trainers are great, especially the new fitness manager, Moe, who I’ve witness help many members achieve their fitness goals. I highly recommend anyone who’s looking to get back into fitness or even looking to further their current level of fitness to contact Moe for your fitness needs.

Most impressively and importantly, they have taken Covid precautions seriously. They’ve implemented many changes & guidelines to help the gym stay clean so that members feel safe and more at ease considering the current state of things.

Good people, good vibes, motivating and we’re all like one big fitness family. Check it out!

I’ve been to a few Golds and this one is by far the best one! Very clean and organized. The staff here is very friendly and professional. I met the fitness manager, I believe his name was Moe. He was very helpful. This was my first time here and I was a bit confused on where things were. Moe directed me and made me feel very welcomed here. Overall I had a great experience at this Golds and I’m sure to come back.

Look no further if you want the most gym for your money. Plenty of state of the art equipment available even with covid spacing closing off several machines. Great pools and clean, modern common facilities. Best of all, membership here affords access to the Sterling and Herndon locations as well. This was perfect for me since I live in Ashburn and often work in Reston. The staff here at Ashburn is exceptional and have all the proper covid safety protocols in place and go the extra mile to keep things sanitized. Josh the GM showed me around the facility the day I signed up and was a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend Gold's Ashburn .

Extremely unethical billing practices and rude and unhelpfull staff. Run for your life and if your planing on moving at any time between now and 2022 make sure you cancel now because they will continue to charge you after you canceled for a year and then send you to collections when you tell your bank to stop letting the charge through.
Edit after response. Just to make it clear they have never called or emailed me at any point. And after multiple calls to the location when I was trying to deal with this like they where a reasonable businesse no one ever picked up the phone. This was back in February 2020 by the way way before covid.

This is a very nice functional gym. People are serious about working out, and the staff does a good job cleaning. Some of the equipment is ancient, but upgrades are evident and very nice. All in all a good workout experience in off peak hours. Just a note, during peak hours, some members become very aggressive and territorial, so if you are older, I suggest avoiding peak hours. The prices are good on paper, but billing can be dodgy and inconsistent. Also note that during the pandemic, distancing and mask rules are in NO way enforced making it a potential petri dish. So be aware of that! Management is very friendly and accommodating when you are signing up and then become "no where to be seen or out of the office". If communication is important, good luck! I do like this gym, but am very aware of its issues. I have avoided it during the pandemic due to safety issues.

Unethical Billing Practices..........

Back in March, at the start of the Pandemic, I tried to reach out to Gold's gym Ashburn multiple times via calls and emails to Freeze my account. I did not receive any response from them. I was still charged fees every month till August except May.

Also, there was no communication from them about when they are closing the gym or when they are reopening it. They just kept charging even when the gym was completely closed during the lock down. Unbelievable!!

I again called them in the beginning of August and told them about this situation. Wanda Rodriguez was on the call and she promised me that they would refund April month's fees as during that time gym was completely closed and refund would be processed within 3-5 days.
I never received any refund so I again emailed them about it.
Now, I have been told they cannot refund me anything as per the agreement.

This is clearly a Scam!! First they charge you even when the gym is closed and then they are not ready to give you refund for that.

Edited to respond to Gold’s Gym’s response: Your customer service representative told me very clearly on the phone that I would only be charged for July, and that that would be the last charge. You all need to get your story straight.

[email protected] is the correct cancellation email address. I’m putting that here because you’ll NEVER find that anywhere on their website. Not like it matters, because they’ll just keep charging you regardless. They’re basically scammers at this point.

I have been trying to cancel my membership since April 25th. They make it extremely difficult to cancel, on purpose, and then they just keep charging you after they said they processed your cancellation. I was told that I would get charged one more time after they FINALLY processed my cancellation (after repeated attempts) on June 25th. I wasn’t happy, but I accepted it. I just got charged AGAIN in August, after what I was told would be the final charge in July. Extremely upset and dissatisfied right now. I would not recommend this gym to anyone who doesn’t want to keep paying Taft Services til they die of old age.

Came here for a free monthly pass. It turned out they were advertising monthly plan, which is just a plan from a trainer for the next 30 days on a paper, but does not include pass. So you have to pay for the membership anyways. Gym is pretty spacious, has pool, sauna in addition to all regular equipment. Classes are part of the membership.

EDIT AFTER RESPONSE:
Lowering my review to one star. Avoid this gym (and any gym in its system).
They continued to charge us after cancellation, even after their "oh it will stop after one more month of charges". You can see from the length and inanity of their response that they have some insane delusions of grandeur.

As far as the facility goes; the layout of some of the machines leaves a lot to be desired. Machines which perform the same task are scattered around, so if the machine you were interested in is taken you'll have to walk around a wall to see if another is open. It is, however, usually clean and the 24-hour section is fairly well supplied with equipment.

Most of my main complaints stem from when the owner of this gym sued the state to re-open during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic; we decided to cancel our membership. The cancellation process is cryptic; requiring you to e-mail a specific e-mail address (which is not displayed on their website). You won't receive a response; which means you might not learn that cancellation takes 30 days, so you will be on the hook for another billing cycle at least.

Overall, unless you require particular services offered only at this gym I would recommend you select a more customer friendly one.

When the this all happen and gym got close I stop paying the monthly after I try to contract the gym and also corporate office but didn't get any return on if they are going to pause the monthly due or not and when the monthly due data they took money out so I stop it and now they are asking me 3month dues plus late charge when the gym was actually close. I call and they said they sent to collections and if I don't pay I can't even cancel my membership. All other fitness club holds the due or give them extra months but gold gym nothing. I do not recommend this gym at all.

I love golds in general. I’m always surprised when people say this is just a gym for pumping iron. There is seriously something for everyone... it’s a huge gym. Even when the parking lot is full there are plenty of machines to use. I love the classes the instructors are the best and being so much energy. Also best kids club ever, the girls are amazing with my son. I would say the only thing they need to work on is their front desk staff, not very inviting

Update: I had submitted my personal training cancellation request with my trainer and she was moving out of the country in couple of weeks. There were not any efforts made on Golds Gyms end to share that the two accounts need to go through two separate processes, had to figure that out on my own after spending an unreasonable amount of money just to get this over with. Took several months folks. I don’t understand how personal training account does not get cancelled or suspended or something when the trainer doesn’t even work there anymore. The run around I got to ensure that my account was cancelled for good is beyond me. If a choice was given between getting a membership at golds gym or At home workout videos, with this horrific experience I would gladly choose workout videos. Stating customer experience is important is not enough when it doesn’t portray in actions.

This gym and it’s staff does not have any customer service skills. They are not people friendly at all. Secondly, golds gym as an entity is one of the worst I’ve ever come across. They have the most unrealistic process of cancelling memberships without having you pay an unreasonable amount of additional money. Please think 10 times before you sign up because once they have your card on file it is a very dark process to get it free and staff at the branch or online does not help navigate through the system.

The cancellation policy is a joke. You ask the staff how to cancel everything and they tell you to email the people on this card. They do not tell you that to cancel personal train, you need to send an email to another email. Plus they take another month of payment out while working on the cancellation. That is just wrong. The staff and trainers are not customer oriented at all. They do what they want to do. I have been with them for four years and am in the military. When I return from duty, I WILL NOT renew my membership with them again. I will go elsewhere.

I've been a member of this gym for the past 9 years. Let's just say this gym used to be one of the best and I looked forward to going to everyday. After my visit today, I was very shocked to see how rude the new staff is and how unprofessional they act. specially the front desk. Not only I wasn't greeted as I walked to the front desk, I also got a stare from the gentleman in front desk, until I started talking and asked the question about my membership he did not say a word. They signup people more than the gym can handle, and sometimes there is literally a line for certain equipment. I understand there is rush hour times at any gym you go to, but this is by far the worst I've seen. More importantly the focus really needs to toward the new staff and really train them on customer service. I'm canceling my membership and going to lifetime where you will pay more but at least I know I won't have to deal with the rude staff and over crowded gym no longer. It's very sad that it came to this.

I will be contacting bbb and corporate about this ISSUE

Golds gym claims we had signed up for two kids clubs when we only have one child which was with us when we did the signing of the contract so they over charged us for 15months on a 2 year contract that beening said once I called them out on it they said it was a mistake etc etc they just took the pending extra money from the second kids club and just put it towards the membership with no I'm paid in full for a two year contract now they didnt offer to refund my money or nothing.... be careful with them they will get you like they got me and i still want to get to the bottom of it. The so called manager should be fired or demoted or have some training with retail costumers, which she has none of. I've emailed 3 times for the last three months and nothing....

They didnt even offer me anything example sorry we made a mistake we want to keep your business let me give you 3 or 5 or 10 classes of this or month free or 3 months free membership nothing I will be taking my dollars elsewhere.

This is the worst Gold Gym at ashburn, I'm very unsatisfied customer for Gold Gym, please do not sign up any contract, after canceling my two sons membership they kept charging my card, because my sons have a school sports activity they don’t go that much Gold Gym, a staff who was working on my contract said that there would any problem to cancel the membership any time I could pay the penalty $50. That was why I joined as a Gold's Gym membership. I have been tried to cancel membership very many times but they make so many excuses. I have tried to cancel the membership for 3 months, but they still do not cancel my membership I went to the local office several times trying to resolve the issue, I ask to speak with the manager which refused to talk to me, I ask for a phone for Main office I was giving a number which I called. I was giving another phone # not working, They told me they cannot help me. Everything we verbally agreed upon prior to signing didn't occur (which I was unaware, not having any documentation). They have refused to cancel even though I followed their guidelines. I wish there was something we the customer can do about it and get our money back.

I truly enjoyed my trial. Very clean place, not crowded, lots of good classes, especially for women. The price is reasonable. Unfortunately for me, it is not a family place. I planned to use it for kids swimm lessons and swimm practice. Turned out that there is no family changing room and shower. Also the water in kiddie pool was so cold that we all had to leave in 15 minutes. That was really disappointing because the playroom and ladies watching kids were really nice. Highly recommend this club if you do not plan to use the pool with kids.

My husband and I joined Golds Gym Broadlands at the end of April after many failed attempts to get back in shape. I have always been hesitant about joining a "big gym," as I have always felt very self conscious about what others might think or constantly worrying if I was using the machines incorrectly. After only one visit I felt immediately comfortable, not only due to the layout of the facility, but because of the wonderful, friendly staff.
Shortly after joining the gym my husband and I started our fitness journey through the personal training program. Jamie, the lead trainer, really educated us both about the current state of our bodies and how we could benefit from the personal training program. He also matched us up with our girl Rugi. There are not enough words to describe what Rugi has done not only for our our physical heath, but also our mental toughness, and self confidence. I NEVER enjoyed working out, but now I love the new challenges that she sets up for us each session. Whether its through our individual sessions or our paired sessions, Rugi tailors each work out to our individual bodies' needs and goals. We didn't just gain a fantastic coach, but also a friend.
We went from making excuses for not working out to feeling incomplete if we haven't hit the gym. Gold's Gym has really helped us transform not only our bodies, but also our minds and hearts.

The equipment is nice and the area is spacious however a good portion of the club members are insanely rude and take weights that you are using before asking and the over all presence of the daytime lifters is as if they’re angry at the whole world. On top of that they are very impatient and have zero gym etiquette. Most of the workers are great and very friendly but there are a few who will berrate you to put/rack your weights away while you are still using them and will weight and look at you dirty until you do. Just lift with your headphones in and go at night when it doesn’t have an awful atmosphere.

Worst Customer Service Ever. I was thinking of joining this gym.
I had to call 5 times to talk to someone and get some information about pricing. They put me on hold for more than 15 min and hung up on me a couple time. I asked to talk to a manager and manager obviously sounded very annoyed with my complaint. I myself used to be in customer service industry for almost 10 years so I understand if they were busy but they should have handled my call better explaining they are really busy and my call will be on hold for a while and make sure my call is not cut off. At any rate, customer service was very much disappointing and I am no longer considering to join this gym.

I just found that Gold's gym charged an additional $29.99 (besides monthly fee) in January 2018. When I called Gold's Gym about the charge, I found that it is charged annually towards building enhancements, equipment repairs, enhancements etc. The lady said it applies all members. Is any one aware of this charge? I found out that this was being charged to my account since 2015.

I like the gym the 1 star rating isn't for the gym it's amazing the 1 star rating is for how the employees get treated I understand we all have stressful lives but don't take it out on the staff there just kids that only get paid 8 an hour and they are over worked I assume management doesn't do anything for them besides leave them by themselves to get yelled at and when the employees start to get angry they can't say anything because there jobs on the line there's 1 employee who is always working he is always really nice I've seen him get yelled at but doesn't say anything because he has a rough life works his ass off and is under paid so if this facility would like a good staff which is hard to come by they need to do something because I've seen employees come and go because of being over worked and under paid and not appreciated at all

I am like Kyle. I signed up for the Ashburn location only specifically to play basketball with my co-workers on Friday mornings. I made that abundantly clear to the lady that signed me up[. Now they have replaced half the court with turf for cross fit and are often conducting classes on the other half. I wrote to Custard and no response at all. I have now written to taft services to see if I get any satisfaction. I just want my membership cancelled without penalty or delay effective immediately. We really feel left out as we all made it clear this was our reason for joining the gym. I just think if they make large changes like this there should be some discussion and reach out to members. This change was just made without any input from the people that use the court. Very disappointed. If they don't cancel my membership I will be back with additional reviews.

I signed up to use a full sized indoor basketball court, and they changed it into half court. They use the other half for more workout equipment. Interesting how they sign you up on a contract and take away the only thing you use at the gym. 100’s of people used this gym for the basketball court.

This place is Awful.

Other members please be careful if you are signing up for any membership especially personal training, they have different plans 3months, 6 months, ....we think we have signed up for a fixed portion . they do mention start date and End date based on the term on contract, but they do have a note under the signature in very tiny wordings, that would continue until we reach out to Taft services to cancel with 30 days notice. most of us we may not pay attention to this, after we see start date and End date clearly. but they just keep charging our credit card.

by the time we notice the charges, its too late they take all they charged and additional month as they have a 30 days notice period. this is really sick.

I have been working out for over 20 years, and never faced this type of management practices with other gym's. they try to credit back when it happens in error, but this place lacks that customer support.

I had joined Golds gyms regarding it as a respectable franchise, but a recent experience at Ashburn location has shaken my faith in this franchise. I am writing this on behalf of my wife who had to go thru this bad experience. On Friday 7/21 she had gone to the gym and after scanning her ID was getting ready to go to her spin class. This guy (golds gym member) came out of nowhere and started misbehaving with her. He physically blocked her, threatened her, hurled profanities, used expletive language (liberal use of the “F” word) and exhibited all signs of aggression and socially unacceptable behavior. This incident was witnessed by the young children/ kids who were in and around the front desk. This man’s behavior was so aggressive that the instructor of the spin class offered to escort my wife back to the car to ensure her safety. My wife was pretty shaken up after this experience. We narrated the whole incident in detail via email to golds gym management the same day. It’s been three days and I am extremely disappointed that in spite of my wife’s email notification, golds gym management did not even have the courtesy to respond back or even acknowledge her email. The lack of response/silence is suggestive of the fact that as a corporation/business they are not behaving in a socially responsible manner and are in fact encouraging such behavior by ignoring it. I decided to write this review so that other members too are aware of this shameful incident. They too should know that if and when such an incident does occur they should not expect this institution to stand up of what’s right. What would children standing in the vicinity learn from this incident – that it’s perfectly acceptable to be verbally abusive/physically intimidating to women in public? I feel golds gym let down all its members when it failed to stand up to a bully.

Pool is kept at 83-85*F; too hot for real lap swimming which is typically done at 74-78*F, FYI. All the non-zumba group exercise classes are at 6pm or earlier so if you work later you can never take advantage. This Golds needs to offer a more varied selection later in the evening for people who actually have jobs! Most desk staff seems incompetent.
