Great location and a less sterile and unfriendly atmosphere than most golds gyms. However the gym equipment is woefully out of date and unsafe. Many of the ancient worn treadmills will suddenly turn off throwing you off, a wide spectrum of items are broken at any given time and you never know what’s going to be missing. It has potential but until someone invests money into renovations, there are better options and I would avoid this one.

Great location, right off of 123/ox Rd.. Excellent layout, easy and easy out. Good size cardio area with a variety of equipment stretching areas lots of equipment, free weights, hammer strength dumbbells. It’s about the perfect size for a gym. Not a lot of wasted space like LA fitness. But certainly large enough to accommodate your patrons and a great variety of equipment equally spaced

I had a very peculiar situation with my account, and was unable to access my benefits. Drove up to Fairfax Station in hopes of finding the support I couldn’t find at other locations. Nathan went out of his way to find a solution and review all the possibilities with me. I couldn’t be more glad w the experience.

Super disappointed with this gym. They randomly raised my rate without any warning, and when I asked about it, they gave me the runaround instead of just fixing the issue. I’ve talked to multiple staff members over the past six weeks, and still no refund.

Every time I brought it up, the staff made me feel like I was being a nuisance—like it was my fault they changed the rate without telling me. Honestly, it feels shady to charge more than what was originally agreed on, especially after already paying the full annual fee. Total lack of transparency and customer service.

To anyone thinking of joining, I recommend joining somewhere else. You pay 60$+ a month, for a gym that hasn’t updated their equipment in years (while they constantly brag about all these “upgrades” and new gym locations on their social media, while blatantly neglecting their existing gyms).

If this wasn’t bad enough, the AC has been broken for weeks with no acknowledgement, the sauna has been broken for MONTHS.

No partial refunds, No anything yet if you try to cancel your membership they will still nickel and dime you.

Tried going to workout with my friend and couldn’t because she’s not 18 on my 1 free guest pass when i’m paying $700 and only have 1 pass for the whole year? makes nos ende when i can sign up and be 16 but can’t bring a guest if they aren’t 18. sick of these “rules” i’ve done it once and the guy at the main desk always has something against people….

Clearly this Golds is skimping across the board. It’s the Super 8 motel of gyms. They stopped spending on maintenance and cleaning. Once upon a time I’d regularly see cleaning crews come through. Not anymore. Toilets are broken, toilet doors are broken and Jerry-rigged, sauna is broken, bathroom and showers smell, equipment hasn’t been updated in a decade or more. Some equipment doesn’t work properly. They know it and do nothing about it. Several times I’ve had to point out clear safety issues with equipment…..so obviously nobody who works there is checking and/or concerned. And on and on and on. You can get a workout here. It beats your garage or basement. But still, don’t come in with high expectations..

I thought the gym was better but the men’s sauna has been closed for a month now for “maintenance”. And then still taking another 2 weeks just to get parts. Very disappointed taking close to 2 months for them to repair anything in their facility. If anything breaks be prepared for them to not make it a priority to fix

Lack luster. Not the quality of a real gold's. There is another real gym close by that is 100 times better. This place is stuck in it's ways and more of a chain that just wants a membership. Equipment is for little lifters and not the standard golds powerlifers. Too focused on the $$$ rather than update equipment or listen when you tell them they have an issue. I was a member for three years before I had enough. Same rusty bolts unfired. Same divet in the floor. Same cables that are uneven in their tension. Same clips that are broken. Same unsolved down Equipment that tips over when you use it. Same rhino squat that has a peice that is bending to drop your weights onto the ground. Same cables that disengage while you are under load. Same broken cardio equipment. Same issues reported to this owner and previous owner. It's not worth your $. Go to the gym closer to the Target nearby.

Came home to visit. Hadn’t been here since high school. Same dirty, old equipment from 15 years ago, dirty bathrooms and weights left on the floor and not put back. Gym floor dusty and the cardio machine I used was full of dried up spilled drink. Depressing gloomy atmosphere. Plenty of other gyms to choose from nearby.

Edit: the male owner was very mean when I asked him a question. He also stared at me as I entered the women's bathroom. I honestly felt weird the entire time I was there.

People really need to put the weights back at this gym. It's common courtesy!!

The gym it’s self is great. I’ve been going there for over 10 years. However I was injured by a trainer GREG at the fairfax station location. He is careless and kept forgetting why I hired him, which was to help me continue healing from my planters fasciitis. I’ve had trainers before and this was a joke. Now I’m injured even worse with knee and lower back pain and I’m in PT again and it’s all due to his carelessness and lack of knowledge…. GREG shouldn’t be training people at all!!

I’ve been a member of this gym since 2013. It used to have a packed class schedule with at least 3 different, highly certified yoga / movement instructors, low fees, excellent management, and a cardio cinema that members adored.

While staff are still wonderful and friendly, since the pandemic management has been an unmitigated cluster. Fees have gone up more times than I can count and few of the amenities discontinued due to public health restrictions have ever fully returned. No cardio cinema, pathetic class schedule, no significant investment in either the facility or the equipment (HVAC in the main studio broke sometime in December/January and stayed broken ~6 mos), and no evidence of a plan to return the location to its former high standard of operation.

Again, fantastic desk staff, and the members are super chill and diverse. However, it feels like I keep giving this place more money for fewer amenities, and my loyalty can only take so much abuse.

This is not a gym with good customer service. I love Gold’s and am a member of the one in Culpeper. I frequently visit my folks in Fairfax and was hoping to work out at this Golds. I was greeted by a nice young man who was working the front desk and told him I was hoping to work out there for the day and told him that I have a membership in culpeper. He asked his manger if that would be okay and she said and I quote “no, absolutely not. If you want to work out you have to purchase a day pass for 20 bucks” I called my gym and they told me to ask about a “travel pass”. I asked these two again and the manager said I need to see a physical copy. I said “can you just verify my status on the phone and let me workout today?” To which they replied no… the young man was polite but the manager was rude and put the young man in an awkward position in dealing with an uncomfortable encounter. Ridiculous and typical NOVA

Great location and plenty of equipment. It's the perfect distance from home and work. My only quibble is that there are no ceiling fans over the treadmill section; so it can get pretty hot during the humid summer months - - even with the AC running.

The gym is good size, has a great variety of equipment, and clean bathrooms. It does not have a swimming pool like other locations and early morning (0500-0700) classes are limited, in my opinion. However, the gym itself, the equipment (most, if not all, of it well-maintained), and staff are all great here. Also, not super crowded, even on peak hours, which allows you to get a good workout in.

I went here for many years. Lots of very serious weight lifters come to this location. They are courteous, so it’s not a problem so much as a spectacle to behold. Good classes. I used to do Spin with my wife before the class ended due to COVID panic. The price was low for what you get. They clean the gym regularly. Equipment was always in good order. A couple of machines always needed love, but there are plenty, so it’s never an issue.

I'll start by saying the staff is very friendly. They have always been GREAT. The reason I'm giving 1 star is bc of the inconsistency in member benefits/amenities and what seems to be poor management. When you pay money for a monthly membership that is supposed to include classes and then an extra $40 per month for kids club, you expect the classes to happen per the schedule and for kids club to be open during posted hours. For kids club, I take 2 kids about 1x per week. Since fall, it is frequently closed when someone doesn't show up. Nobody ever offered a credit for the service that was supposed to be provided. Recently, it has become ridiculous. Of the past 4 times I have brought my kids in this past month, it was closed 3 times during posted hours. The regional manager happened to be there today and said I "should understand bc I'm a small business owner". Let me tell you, there is NO WAY this is ok in my business-- Paying members expect you to be open during posted hours, period. I'm not sure what is going on, but I get the sense it is being very poorly managed. The class schedule has also been hit or miss since fall. They cant keep instructors, scheduled classes are sometimes not even held. It is all just very frustrating and I wish there was another gym as convenient to my house so I could switch.

I have been a member of this place since it replaced the haggard old super market that used to occupy the building around 15 years ago, and I have really never had any complaints.
The staff is awesome- they are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I have never used them for personal training as I just like to do my own thing, but I would have no qualms about using any of them based on conversations that I have had with them and observations of their interactions with members. I give the morning guy , Patrick, grief because it is fun, but the guy for years has that place open on time even though he must have to get up at an inhuman hour to do so, and he is always friendly and interactive.
The people who work out there are cool too. Everyone is appreciative that everyone else there is trying to better themselves , so nobody acts in a condescending or arrogant way.
Covid has thinned the crowds for sure, but my only semi issue used to be that in prime hours it was really too crowded to get much done at points. But, I am lucky in that I have a flexible schedule.
All in all, it is a great deal for the money, and it is in an easy walking distance for many.
Update: I recently found out I was overbilled by a lot....A LOT. I have faith that they are rectifying it, but I will chime back in soon

I was looking for a new gym and made an appointment to tour this place. Got there just on time, maybe a couple of minutes early. I was told by the receptionist that the person who was supposed to give the tour was busy giving someone else a tour. So I asked when that was going to be over since my scheduled time was about the begin. He said they had just begun so it would be another 20 minutes or so. I was like: why do you give people appointments if anyone can just walk in and take a tour? The receptionist says, "sorry". I waited a bit and finally left. To add insult to injury, I get a text the next day saying: "oh, it looks like you missed your appointment, feel free to reschedule". I texted back saying it was them who missed their appointment and explained what happened. The person wrote back a canned comment like: "well, whenever you can make it, come back for a tour". I was like: "hello!!! did you read what I wrote happened? I was ditched after making a trip there, no one came to give me a tour". Not even an apology or acknowledgement for wasting my time. I would never become a member there; they don't take responsibility for their actions!

Only join if you wish to pay dues for the rest of your life. I warned my son that this place is difficult to quit since you have to mail them notice in writing. They will not discontinue your membership in the club. When my son moved, I mailed them letter requesting them to cancel since he no longer lived in the area. We continued to be billed for months. We called and complained to no avail. He had to cancel his credit card to discontue the fraudulent charges. They responded by sending him to collections for a years worth of dues. Now his excellent credit is ruined. You may think it won't happen to you, but they are dishonest and should be put out business.

First of all this gym charges way too much. Sixty dollars a month. Why are they charging this much when the sauna isn't even open. Not only that, they close at ten every day when now we can go to restaurants and bars till 12am. I don't understand why they can't just open for one hour longer. Well the answer I think is unfortunately that they just wanna save money at the customers expense. Provide less of a service and charge the same price. What a great business model.

You CANNOT require people to wear a facemask WHILE working out. Governor Northam said this was an EXCEPTION to wearing them. You could get sued if you kick someone out for not wearing one while exercising. I've been for wearing face masks and have even told my dad, who's a Republican, to kick his political views to the curb for once, realize we are in pandemic and wear one, and this is coming from me.

I don't love using my data at an establishment where WiFi should be a given seeing as how people like to stream their own play lists, watch YouTube, and use apps while working out.

Edited: WiFi came background after 1 wk. Aside from this common WiFi problem, I like the gym

This is a great Golds Gym. They really do a good job of keeping it clean, especially the shower and toilet areas. If I still lived as close as I did, I would go back.

I love it here. The team is SUPER friendly. I don't use the personal training services, but all the coaches still say hi to me just because they've seen me around the gym. Also, the members of this gym all seem friendlier than my previous gym (Planet Fitness) which is NOT what I expected. The equipment is great (I prefer to lift), and this gym is never so crowded that I can't complete my workout plan for the day. Absolutely love it, I'll never go back to PF.

I've been going to this gym for over 2 years. I actually like it. Big space, good utilization of their floor space, and good variety of equipment.

Their problem as always been management. Probably 5 different managers over the time I've been there. The heavy bag broke more than a year ago. Over the last year there has been a wide variety of excuses from the various managers. The manager at the time told me they're looking to order a new one. Time goes by..... the next manager (Sonny) said the heavy bag isn't a priority. Time goes by.... the manager after Sonny told me it's on order and it'll be here in 2 weeks! Finally! Someone who knows what they're doing! Thank God. 1 month goes by, he says they got it and they are planning on preparing the area to accommodate it. Ok... I can wait until then..... Months go by...... and still no heavy bag. A new manager shows up and says he put the heavy bag on order.... I told him the previous manager told him it was "supposively" already on order and acquired, which was an blatant lie from the previous manager Chris. Then he told me that the previous manager has been promoted to the District Manager! Oh lawd..... oh no..... Say it ain't so.... I can't trust this Gold's Gym. I put in my cancellation notice a week later! An end to BS! Thank God.

If there is not going to be a heavy bag, then tell me there's not going to be one. This really isn't that complicated!!!!!!! This is NOT rocket science!
I repeat... This is NOT rocket science.

The manager at the old Sully Plaza Golds Gym in Chantilly was on-point with maintenance! He never slacked on maintaining the heavy bag or boxing equipment there. That guy should be district manager.

In short, there will never be a heavy bag at the Fairfax Station location. I have hope that the current manager of that gym breaks the cycle of excuses, lies, and deception, of the managers before him...

Stay away. Management will attempt to steal your money. Super easy to sign up but will continue to charge you long after requesting membership cancellation. Truly the worst gym I've ever attended. There's better more friendly places to spend your money and time.

Unfortunately, recent experiences have tanked my review of this gym. Gold's, gets the job done as a budget gym, and the Fairfax location is one of the nicer Gold's of all Gold's gyms.

As life, and work has moved me around a bunch, my go-to gym has always been a Golds. Unfortunately, when life took me away again from the local Gold's gym, I have had a bottom tier experience trying to cancel my membership.

When I called, I was told I needed to drive in to cancel. Its absolutely ridiculous that in the age of customer service, Gold's continues to squeeze out an additional payment by requiring you arrive in person. Having moved away, I drove the hour to jump through their hoops, only to be told it would be taken care of, to then receive an email that did not reconcile with our conversation.

I called the gym, and spoke with Patrick who handed me an email to email Marlon who would follow up with me. No reply, and five phone calls later, I received a voicemail at the end of the week asking for the proof I have relocated. The proof I had with me when I drove to the gym. There has been little flexibility to provide decent customer service me as I have been out of town on a business trip for three weeks.

Absolutely remarkable that the customer service is close to non-existence in such a competitive space.

Ridiculous cancellation policy. Once I cancelled, I was told that I have to pay an additional month after cancellation. This is after I had to prepay one month in advance during sign-up, and I was not under a contract. Seems like nothing more than a money grab. The facility itself is just average. Nothing special, and not worth the monthly price.

if I could give half a star I would give, terrible service to members, gym stinks and lack of cleanliness in the machines, try to cancel gold fit three months ago and they keep charging me having canceled it with cancellation receipt, thinking about changing for a better option and service .....

The gym itself has terrific equipment not always seen, such as the Jacob's ladder and the reverse hyper-extension machine, but the smell and cleanliness are an issue. When you walk in, there is an overwhelming scent of stinky feet, it's actually nauseating. The classes seemed a bit dated with stale music too. Often very crowded even later in the evening, the gym could use some additional cleaning for members who come late. Also, as towel service is not included, there might be pools of sweat on equipment from people who were too cheap for towel service and didn't think to bring one from home. Overall not a bad value-- there's plenty of space plus free wi-fi--but it's not perfect.

The facility, location, equipment and people are all fine. The trainers not necessarily so. I am a 61 year old male, 20 lbs over weight, and had back surgery in '07.

In 2011, through working with a trainer in a different state, my back was fixed and I was good shape for a man my age. I stopped training a few years ago and things slowly reverted. This past May I went to the Ox Road Gold's gym and told the guy at the front desk I needed a trainer. I told the trainer my back ground and what I was looking for. I specifically asked if he had training and experience working with someone with my issues. He assured me had. At this point I had no pain, only knew it was time to start taking care of myself.

After 7 sessions with this guy I could barely walk and was out of commission for a week and a half. I still have back pain. I switched trainers and while better, he still asked to do exercises I should not be doing. Fortunately I had learned from the first guy...

Okay, here is the kicker. When I talked to the second trainer I told him I wanted to start from zero with full credit for the time wasted with the first guy. He did put me in touch with the manager, Vicky. She was very polite, but said Gold's can not give credit for the first trainer misrepresenting his expertise, but would be glad to give me a discount if I bought more sessions.

I have been a member of Gold's for several years (not this location and not always using the membership) and have spent over $4,000 with the company. This is the best they can do?

Bottom line: If you need a place to go and workout - use the equipment - no reason not to use this gym.

If you have any condition that requires other than a boilerplate training routine for a typical 25 year old jock, go to a different gym. These guys are dangerous and will not do right by you.
