Updating my review since there have been some improvements.
The shower curtains have been replaced with new ones, which I appreciate. I do wish they were hung correctly though — the smooth, soap/soap-scum resistant side is facing outward while the rough side is inside 😅. Small detail, but it matters.
One ongoing issue is the shower drains. The third shower drain is about 99% clogged, and the water backs up quickly. This should be an easy fix, removing the drain cover and cleaning it out only requires a Phillips head screwdriver.
If the cleaning staff ever need help rehanging the curtains properly or keeping the drains clear, I’d honestly be happy to help at no cost. I’m a member here and just want the gym to run better, not looking for anything in return.
There’s been some progress, but maintenance and attention to detail still need improvement.

Watch charges and removals on your account. Child watch services were never removed from my account as told so when i was issued a new card I then found out they were still charging me! They no longer could because my card was replaced. They want me to copay the past due child care costs that were never canceled 😡. Not thank you. I will cancel my entire membership and go to a better gym. I’m also going to dilute the past charges I wasn’t aware of. Management was of no help, not surprising.

I requested cancellation on November 3, well before my next payment date of November 11. However, I was still automatically charged for an additional month despite cancelling in advance. This was very disappointing, as I expected the cancellation to prevent any further charges.

My experience in this place has been awful. When I registered they told me that I could cancel anytime it was a lie because when I wanted to cancel they told me that I had to tell them 30 days before that. I canceled my membership because the gym was not what I expected. The place is a disaster. It is always full and you can not find dumbbells. The machines are all the time are busy. The staff don’t help you find a fair solution. Also, the kids' zone is a bad place, the people there are not charming with the kids. They don’t tell you if you children are crying. My son went just one time and he doesn't like to come back. He was terrified to water to cry when we were there. That's why I wanted to cancel and they refused to help me. I had to pay the month completely I was there just two days it was very unfair.

Some of the Reps are friendly some are just reserved but my main complaint are the restrooms. They are always not so clean .And sanitation towels are always empty lately. Other then that i just come to work out and leave! Nothing special about this Golds gym cause it doesn't have much as the other ones ive been too. Only reason i come to Hopkins cause its close to my house

I really wanted to love this gym. The price point was great for all the amenities available and the expanse of weight lifting equipment. I was a member of GG years ago and spent most of my time between Laburnam and Willow Lawn. I figured that Meadowbrook would be just as good, even if it was a little smaller.
I started here back in Jan, and I stopped going around May, canceling in July to join the YMCA with much dismay to my wallet ($20 higher price point per month). I met a couple of really cool folks there during the early mornings, members who were super supportive and kind.
The staff was almost always friendly too. The guys at the front always greeted me and said goodbye, sometimes had conversations too. Cool people. There was also a girl there with headphones that didn't really speak or interact. Not really offputting or anything, but definitely not as good engagement.
I did not love the upkeep of this facility. This is what ultimately made me leave. I had emailed the GM about it once already, and I suggested that they get a deep clean done for the locker rooms, which were ALWAYS gross. Unfortunately, this was due to messes that members created and that staff failed to clean (or maintain). I had hoped that my email would help with this, considering that I told the GM that it had been like this for a few months.
The locker room issues: ants and drain flies in the locker room/sauna/showers/bathrooms, various products like lotions and oils smeared on the counters by the mirrors, inside of lockers were grimy, floors were always gritty with dirt or trash items (protein bar wrappers, a USED tampon, pre-workout spills, random paper towels, etc), the bathrooms had overflowing sanitary boxes, middle stall broken, shower walls were dirty, showerheads had immense buildup, the sauna door had smears of whatever on it.
The gym issues: no enforcement of members picking up their trash or wiping down equipment, paper towels and empty water bottles left on machines and in the floor, and long-term broken equipment.
While I understand that many of these issues can be caused by the members (and that they should clean up after themselves because you KNOW they got home training), the staff is still responsible for cleaning and upkeep. The staff are there to run a business, and this is a suffering business due to lack of upkeep. These issues have also been months-long and rather unfortunate. After seeing that this location was undergoing construction, I KNEW it wou NEVER be clean. That was what the defining factor was for my cancelation.
PLEASE DEEP CLEAN YOUR FACILITIES AND DO BETTER. Otherwise you will continue to lose members. It seems that my review is not the only one like this.

I’ve been at this gym since its first opening day back in like 2017? I have watched its simultaneous growth and deterioration. Early morning and late night staff don’t care (which I can understand having worked those shifts at that SAME gym but giving a little give a damn goes a long way), like others have stated. The midday staff are the backbone it seems. They are the only ones you ever see cleaning or helping patrons and helping keep the gym orderly. It is not the staff’s responsibility to put the weights and equipment back, personally I wipe my own butt and don’t expect others to do so for me. My children also know to pick up after themselves. Apart from that the facility has grown and adapted to its patrons ie: More strength equipment, Turf area, varied weights and bars and equipment, seeing the need and expanding the weight area by taking down two walls greatly amplifying the space. You get to hit your 10K steps walking around looking for weights and equipment, makes your workout go by quick seeing as how you spend 40% of your time hunting it down. Cleanliness can be better. I still go here only because it’s conveniently located and open 24/7 and my training/workout is not of the gen pop so I can get in and bang out my routine by the time another patron finds a pair of barbell collars they need . A lot of the gripe really comes from the lack of accountability from the patrons which outnumber the staff easily 20:1 on average. Simple stuff like weight re-racking and equipment being returned to its respective area (90% of issues would be alleviated with this alone). And the parking…it is non existent. Some park regularly, some diagonally, some continue to park up front towards the curb even though there is no more space! Logic says that if your goal is fitness that you would squeeze in a few more steps by parking a little further or in a regular marked spot but there are none. So yea, if you want to get a good workout in and just drop your weights and walk out when you’re done this is the spot!

Your customers are the ones who keep businesses in business. With that being said, your customer service should be better than what it is. More times than not, when you walk into the facility you are not greeted by the staff member at the desk. Instead, they are on their phones and not paying attention. I have never been to a gym where you have to consistently walk around the entire gym just to find a pair of matching dumbbells and the plates are seldom ever re-racked (it's going to take more than staff walking around wearing a shirt to enforce patrons to re-rack their weights). Patrons need to start being held accountable for not doing so. The gym should be a sacred place, which is why if it isn't just about the money, you should have a zero-tolerance policy for certain things. The parking lot is also a travesty. Patrons have to make their own parking spot, because some of the lines are just literally not there or some are disappearing diagonal lines. These are easy fixes if you truly respect and care about the ones who are keeping this Gold's in business.

I enjoy this gym but something that NEEDS ATTENTION IS the parking lot. It is HORRIBLE. Every time I try to park I have to try to figure out if I’m within the lines or not but I can’t because they’re so faded and the other car is either parked crooked or taking up two lanes .Due to lack of parking lane markings. With the increase golds gym has just implemented it should go towards the parking lot nothing has changed within the inside of the building and they claim to have maintain the integrity of their club. The parking lot is what one of their mains concern should be as well not just within the club! Folks park any type of way they want blocking traffic within the parking lot due to lack of markings something so simple can be easily resolved as much money as every member pays i do not see why this is so over looked. The staff are always on their phones i asked for some assistance at the front desk and was simply ignored due to them being on the phone scrolling maybe they didn’t hear me ? i don’t know i just walked away.

It’s a nice gym, but it lacks on things like cleaning bathrooms, and sauna, I just started to come to this gym a week ago and I was at the one on broad st golds gym, complete different. Unfortunately this gym doesn’t seemed to have staff that walks around and tell people to put their weights back like they should, also the dumbbells are everywhere like you have to run after them because people just grab them and never return them. It’s a mess, I had an experience with golds gym that everything was nice and neath but this one it’s just a mess, people eat inside of the sauna and leave their junk behind. And like I said it lacks on cleaning. I think the staff need to be one the people working out to put the weights back on their place, we all have to think about the other people who will come to work out next. It’s not fair that we have to run after dumbbells everywhere to find a matching set.

I enjoy coming to this location because it's close to where I live the staff is friendly and whenever I tell them about a issue they do their best to handle it... I'm glad Lulu is back for house keeping because no one takes care of the ladies locker room like she does... so far the sauna is working that's my go-to after my workout it's wonderful 👍🏽

Today I went into the gym with my family and we had two kids whom needed care. We go into the care center and they notify me that i am not able to leave my kids due to their limit being 7 but they had 12 kids already so I asked how come your limit is 7 but you have 12. The lady took offense to that and notified her brother (the assistant manager). We were then told to get out of the building and the cops where called because apparently my question was offensive. So we canceled all 4 of our memberships and left. So in light if that I wonder what the reason behind my latin kids not being accepted but the other white kids being accepted was......discrimination obviously!

I have been going to this gym for almost four years now, but the cleanliness of the facilities has been deteriorating gradually over time. The ladies' restroom appears as if it has not been cleaned in weeks, and it is quite unpleasant to use it. I understand that members have a responsibility to keep the gym clean, but it appears that the staff is not doing their part to maintain cleanliness. Moreover, the cleaning solution to sanitize equipment is often not available as most of the bottles are empty. I am almost paying $34 for membership, yet the condition of the gym is quite unsanitary.

This facility is run down, dangerous, and dirty for many reasons. You will not get your $’s worth. There is a separate room to the back with extra treadmills and up until this week only 2 out of 8/9 of those machines worked. This week they were all up so I decided to use one yesterday and when my speed hit 8 it shut off with no warning which is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! The next day I tried using a treadmill in the main gym area and it was making an awful screeching sound ( obviously signaling they need maintenance) I decided to move to the one beside it and it did the exact same
thing! What are we paying every month for when majority of the amenities barely work if they even work at all?? I will be reporting because this is unsafe and unfair to members they spend their $ on this.

I’ve been to a lot of gyms in Richmond. The Hopkins golds is very unpleasant to work out because of the way the staff allow the members to abuse the space. Weights left all over the place trash on the floor. Somebody left a whole pair of pants in the men’s sauna. The front desk doesn’t even bother to make you scan your tag when you walk in. I get it that it’s the members responsibility to clean up after themselves but they don’t do it. The night time staff literally do nothing. Half the time you can’t even find an actual staff member. I love the sauna and I think they make good use of the space and there is SOME good equipment but I’ve been a member for 2 weeks and it’s been highly disappointing. This place is just unkept

Today was the first time I’ve gotten a gym membership at meadowbrook plaza and the experience was unpleasant, the girl at front desk has a rude attitude she make me feel unwelcome she even didn’t take the time to explain to me nothing about the gym or offer a tour or something even when I told her I was my first time at the gym before to sing it but I’m still complete the process
I still don’t understand why the manager or the owner allows this type of treatment towards the client., and that’s why I will cancel the membership I hope the owner or manager read this and train those employees who provide customer service better

Plenty of space and equipment, but extremely busy and it's not even worth it to go after 4 because you won't be able to do your full workout.
The main reason it gets 3 stars is that none of the weights are ever re racked and the dumbbells are always mixed up and left lying all over the gym. I know the members are heavily to blame for this but I haven't seen the staff bother to organize the weights even once, though I don't go every day, so I could have missed them putting things up.
Otherwise, the facility is maintained well enough, and if you go earlier in the day you'll be able to get all your work done due to the amount of equipment they have. Very cool turfed area as well for mobility exercises, and the staff has been courteous as far as I've seen.
I'd recommend this facility, but not over their Hull St location simply because that gym is a bit cleaner, more organized, and less busy.

I find it pretty ridiculous that you have to go into the gym personally to cancel. All for a signature? We are in the 21st century, what happens if someone has to leave out of state and need their membership cancelled. This location will continue to charge you because they physically need you present to sign a cancellation form. I would not sign up unless you don’t mind the circus antics for as simple as cancelling your membership. Gold’s you really need to get it together we are in digital world get with the times.

Been going here for a while but the lack of respect has gotten ridiculous. Let me be clear, it’s the MEMBERS that leave weights everywhere and expect employees to follow them and spend their day racking weights. This is made worse by the groups of people who take entire areas for an hour (including the machines and extra weights in that area). It used to just be the trainers with groups of 6-8 at a time that were a problem. The same people that park their car in the middle of the lane because it’s closer are the same ones leaving their weights around like children. Go to a day care if you want a babysitter. (Advice: put up a counter of people you’ve suspended for not racking weights until the weights are put back)

It’s an okay Gym. If you care about cleanliness, this is not the gym for you. Not only can you find dust bunnies under and in between the equipment, but the women’s bathroom isn’t kept the tidiest. The gym does have what you need to ensure a great workout but could def improve on cleanliness.

I’m going to say that this gym is okay. I do love that they are 24 hours every day, unlike my current gym. It’s a smaller Gold’s Gym so there isn’t as much equipment like the larger ones and there’s no sauna or pool. Trying to reach management on the phone is nearly impossible. Either the manager is lying, or literally spends the entire shift at lunch. I joined and never received my free t shirt & then was told only a manager could give it to me. Crazy! Not a bad gym, I just hope you never need to reach management.

I canceled my membership in April because my Partner and I moved. They continue to harass me into July. I've reached out to the corporate office and they have been no help. My partner and I are beginning to think it's discrimination based. Would not recommend this location or the company as a whole as their lack of oversight speaks just as badly.
Edit: I forgot the sleaziest part. Because I had to communicate via email because our line wasn't set up for long distance calls yet, they tried to get me to sign a blank piece of paper and send it to them. Any lawyers out there would see that as a potential fraud case waiting to happen.

This location is just ok, not a lot of equipment and always need to ask for someone to turn the massage chair on which it can get pretty annoying.
As a member who pay extra to utilize this service I should be provide with a code so I can just go on with my day and don't always have to rely on staff

Cleanliness is a huge problem. These pictures are disgusting. It’s crazy because I mentioned this to the front desk Friday and I’m posting this the next day because I walked in and it was worse. A full 24hrs. Please just fix the problem. It should be simple we pay for a membership and in return we can use the facility and it’s clean. I understand immature people make messes BUT there still needs to be regular cleaning. We shouldn’t have to see the same dirt from the last day. I wish I could go to another gym like planet fitness but unfortunately Golds is the only gym that is close to my job and home. Please make it a priority to regularly clean and check the cleanliness of the ladies locker room AND SHOWERS. Oh and this is separate from the guy that cleans the gym area in the AM . I see him putting in the work he’s awesome this review isn’t about him. It’s for whoever is supposed to be cleaning/deep cleaning the womens area.

These people make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to cancel your membership. They require that you come IN PERSON. Therefore, we arrived at 5:45 to complete the cancelation. We were told we would have to wait for awhile before the person was available. We therefore decided to complete the cancelation after our exercise class. When we came out of the class, we went to the front desk. They refused to let us cancel because it was past 6 and their cancelation hours are 10-6 😒. Totally could have gotten this taken care of when we arrived but due to lack of consistent information between employees, I am going to have to take another hour out of my day to complete this cancellation. Stupid.

Again, the updates and continued improvements to the facility are much appreciated. Really loved the new layout of the equipment and respective workout areas. The flow made sense but it took all of a two week before the gym idiots took it upon themselves to rearrange everything. Its bad enough they don't put the weights back. So please consider bolting the equipment to the floor

I appreciate the update to the facility, new equipment and gym staff. The look and feel of the gym is much improved from when I first joined. With that said, I must now mention that the parking lot needs some attention. The parking spaces are not well defined and lazy patrons are taking it upon themselves to park in the fire lane directly across from the gym entrane. This causes there to be blind spots when driving in to leaving the parking lot. Its just a matter of time before there is a serious accident. Please look into this. Perhap requesting the police to give out a few tickets will deter people from parking there. 🤷🏾♂️
Spacious gym but alot of the equipment is dated and always in need of repair. Equipment and weights spread everywhere. Not enough staff walking around to keep it clean and organized. Patrons not in the habit of practicing gym etiquette and putting things back where the find it. Mens locker room often messy and smelly.

Overall the entire facility needs work.

This staff and management team are phenomenal. Everyone is kind and professional. Lulu and Devin are exceptional. They are very pleasant and courteous whenever they interact with the anyone. There are extremely positive and polite. They do an excellent job at making sure the facilities are clean and safe. This is a great place to workout.

I love all the classes offered. I attend multiple classes at multiple locations and I enjoy them all! Great instructors and all the equipment you need. Just show up and be ready to work. Yoga classes are awesome as well. I recommend goals gym fitness classes for all levels of fitness. They will have a class to fit your needs.

This location is ‘ok’. The bad- I have a gold membership, and the main purpose was to be able to bring a guest, but now they aren’t allowing that. So I’m paying extra for nothing. The gym is always messy, and the cleaning bottles constantly empty. Been going to this location for a year and the sauna always out of order. Majority of treadmills skip whenever you go over 5mph, they need fixing! Last week a toilet was backed up, and toilet water was into the locker room.
The good- members are kind considerate. I go early, and it’s never packed. Staff friendly

of Complaint:
I have a gold membership with this gym that I signed a contract to get that allows me to bring a guest with me to workout and they have now implemented that no one is allowed to bring a guest any more which breaks the contract that I signed. I pay more for the gold membership for the guest privileges as well as the unlimited usage of all affiliated gold's gyms. I would have gotten the 9.99 a month membership that doesn't allow guests nor usage of all affiliated gold's gym access had I know that they would just get do away with the signed contract. I don't think this is legal and I need some answers to this.

The cleanliness of this location is horrible. There’s a lot of dust and dirt in some areas. No one picks up or re-racks their weights and people leave equipment all over the gym. Gym etiquette is non-existent. Some of the machines are old and don’t function well, definitely need some maintenance. The management is trying to make the gym more attractive and opened up the area by removing walls and adding huge glass sliding doors. But honestly they should have invested that money in hiring a better cleaning crew, adding some more useful equipment or upgrading the outdated equipment. This is the worst Gold’s location I have used.

Blaring music in the power lifting room I can't even hear my own music with headphones in.. half the sanitizer spray bottles are always empty or non existent. dumbbells, plates everywhere like no one cleans up after themselves. Recently joined this golds and was not pleased with the quality of the gym. Out of the whole gym I was only able to locate one sanitizer bottle in the cycling room and hardly any of the free weights were racked and they were left around the gym. The machines were dusty which lets me know they aren’t cleaned regularly. There was trash on the floor and the front desk associate greeted me with a flosser dangling out his mouth. Definitely reconsidering this membership.

I've been coming to this Gold's since it opened. I have no complaints about the staff ,as they have always been friendly and helpfull. But lately I've been concerned because the overall quality of the gym has gone down. Many machines/equipment are constantly broken and missing attachmemts. And it takes them months to even start fixing things (other than a treadmill here and there ) .Other gyms in this same franchise around the city have updated equipment, but nothing here in awhile.
I love the area and convenience of the gym but due to the issues I am considering driving a little further to a.nicer.gym.

Paul Wiggin was very unprofessional and unfair in his approach to rectifying a situation during a Zumba class. He closed a large garage door which is one of the exit doors to the fitness room where Zumba class was held. Other classes have this same garage door open when classes are in session. He stated that the music was too loud, but at no time did he speak to the instructor prior to closing the garage door. His body language and behavior was alarming to members as he closed the garage door with no notice. He did not explain to the instructors his concerns until after he spoke with a Zumba class participant. Two minutes later, he spoke to the instructor about his concerns. When I confronted him to try to understand why he closed up a room with 98 percent minority females, he began discussing guidelines. I understood the guidelines, but his lack of professionalism, ie disgruntle demeanor and walking away as i was still talking to him, has lead me to believe that he was bias. His implicit biases interfered with his role as a manager. I would like to see him close the garage doors for all the classes.

The General Manager Paul, is rude, arrogant, and lacked basic customer service skills. While trying to cancel my membership, after moving back home from college due to COVID and being told my freeze would be indefinite, he was very dismissive of my claims. Labeling what I was told as being “under the impression of” when I told him exactly what was told to me. When I asked him to put a note on my account regarding the refund from the month I was charged that my account should’ve been frozen, he put bursted and told me I was argumentative throughout the call and threatened me using the refund because he “doesn’t need to be told how to take notes as the GM”. Very disappointing, which makes all the more sense why I always went to the Colonial Heights location.
I do hope I actually receive my refund with the notation of our agreement not being in the system because I prefer documentation with the lack of communication in customer service these days. But if you need to deal with anything account wise, I do NOT recommend. I do hope they get it together and I am very glad I no longer have to deal with this facility.
