Came here for the three day trial and service was top tier. All the equipment was in shape and the sign up process was very smooth. I have been thinking about switching gyms and LA fitness seems like a great fit. Overall the gym wasn’t too full and gave us space to focus on our own workout while keeping the environment engaging.

I have been a member for almost a year, and what happened tonight was completely unacceptable. This evening, I brought my three teenagers with me because they have recently become interested in fitness and wanted to see the gym. I understand that my membership only includes two guest passes, and I explained that to the staff member who appeared to be the manager. Unfortunately, he refused to give me his name.

When we arrived, he immediately told us we could not enter because I had three guests. I politely explained that they were my children, they were excited to see the gym, and it was just for tonight. I asked if he could make a one-time exception so I wouldn’t have to send one child back outside or disappoint all three.

Instead of showing any understanding, he denied the request in a very rude and dismissive way. I repeated that my kids were excited and that we were simply asking for a small favor. His tone became even more disrespectful. At that point, I told him that if this was how members were treated, I would rather cancel my membership.

He laughed at us and said, “Why don’t you guys leave now?” As we walked out, he continued to laugh and waved his hand saying “bye bye,” in a mocking way—right in front of my children. This was incredibly humiliating and upsetting for them. I cannot understand how LA Fitness allows someone with such disrespectful behavior to represent your company.

Tonight was supposed to be a positive and motivating experience for my kids, but instead, he ruined it completely.

I’ve been an LA Fitness member since 2023 and had a great experience with them until 2025. Over the past nine months, nearly half of their equipment has been either broken or marked as “under maintenance.” This ongoing issue has made the gym far less appealing and functional.

I’ve brought up these concerns to both the front desk and management, but repairs either take forever or never happen at all. I primarily joined for the swimming lap lanes, which are my main form of cardio, but even those have been neglected.

Recently, I found a sign stating, “The pool is closed; if you go in to the pool your membership will be revoked.” Not only was the message poorly written, but it also felt like they were blaming members for a situation caused by their own issues.

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. If you care about fitness results rather than being nickel-and-dimed, I wouldn’t recommend this gym. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if this location closes within a year or two.

The pool has been closed for the entire month I've been here, the hours are not great, especially on the weekends so if you work on the weekend I recommend another gym. Plus I get allergic reactions while in this specific gym, im not sure what's causing it, may be that they allow dogs in here but also may be the sanitizer wipes. Its pretty pricey considering how limited the hours are and the only amenities that seem readily available are the steam room (and as of recently the regular sauna finally opened up after being close for months or longer) I will probably have to cancel solely because of my work schedule but also the allergy thing is a huge issue.

Disappointed with LA Fitness Herndon

I’ve been a member at LA Fitness Herndon for a while now, and honestly, it’s gone downhill. The sauna has been out of order for over a year with no updates or urgency to fix it. On top of that, the pool isn’t even accessible, which is frustrating for those of us who actually planned to use the amenities we’re paying for.

To make matters worse, they closed the Dulles Mall location, so now this gym is way overcrowded. Good luck finding an open machine during peak hours! At this point, it feels like an overpriced Planet Fitness, except even Planet Fitness at least keeps their equipment working. To top things off they try to over charge you and call it a signature club, no sauna, no pool access, no basketball court and always dirty and over crowded.

If you’re thinking about joining, I’d seriously reconsider—this place isn’t worth the membership fee anymore.

I live almost 5 years around Reston area and I’ve been debit monthly $50 for a full facilities but it’s been more than 2 years that this service (Sauna) is indefinitely closed. And the answer here was to used other LA locations like they pay my gas or car. They don’t do any discounts for the inconvenience or apologies but they are puntual on debit issues and late fee 😠.

LA fitness is a great place to exercise, train, and do certain activities/classes. My first impression was "oh amazing" then while touring I discovered that the sauna was permanently closed. I was told they were working on some issues. Then after signing up I went for the pool and it was closed by Fairfax County health department. Asked and they told me that FF has to come, after many days I called and still was closed. I decided to call FF and I was informed that LA Fitness has to call them to check if LA solved the problem. Finally LA Fitness cancelled all the pools. NO MORE POOL AT LA FITNESS!!!
This plus some lack of cleaning, especially inside the lockers made me realize that my initial "oh" was wrong. The attendants are very nice, the equipment is modern and in working conditions, at least which I used. I would say to LA Fitness don't go down but I think it's too late. Good luck!

How is this a signature club? My usual club is in hyattsville is a normal club and yet has a working whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. This “signature” is packed to the brim, tiny in size, and wait for it “indefinitely closed sauna” and the whirlpool is just not for humans! (Or anyone?)

They have gotten rid of several amenities since I joined such as the pool and the sauna, and yet no one’s monthly fee has gone down even though we’re getting less value. Machines are down for several MONTHS at a time. For some reason it’s a “signature club” yet has less amenities and much fewer classes than LA Fitnesses in Fairfax and Leesburg. The management here does not seem to have any interest in rectifying any of the issues that have come up. I don’t mind that it’s busy or not the cleanest. It just feels like intentional enshitification of a product we’ve already bought. Classic bait and switch. The gym has so much potential but the management does not even seem to be trying.

I’ve been to LA Fitness locations in Fairfax, Mayfield, and Alexandria/Arlington, and this Herndon LA fitness is so much better. It’s cleaner, the machines actually work, and everything feels more organized and more hygienic than other locations.

ImWhile there’s still a little room for improvement, but I’m extra impressed because I’m used to those other locations that were not as clean and had a lot of broken equipment. This place was a nice surprise, and I enjoy working out here.

I rarely ever post bad reviews of a business but this LA fitness is not worth the value we pay for it. Joined in early June with the staff saying the sauna would be fixed in about a month or so. This hasn’t happened. Certain machines are falling apart and there seems to be no effort to fix them.

I don’t know about others but I’d rather not be greeted by an unleashed Pitbull that is a “service animal” at my local gym. Seems as other reviewers have complained about this months ago and nothing has changed. Imagine if every member brought their unleashed dog to the gym. If I didn’t use free weights I would absolutely join Planet Fitness.

Staff is nice but machines are constantly breaking with no estimate of when it will be fixed. Out of all of the stair masters only 3 are working. The hip abduction machine had been broken for over a month. Lights in the bathrooms aren’t working and the bathroom sinks are constantly running. Unlike most gyms, this gym never invests in new equipment so machines have been the same since they opened.

I had a very disappointing experience with LA Fitness, specifically regarding their personal training program. When I enrolled, the trainer Kayle only spoke to me about a one-month commitment. At no point did he clearly explain that I was being enrolled in a six-month contract. I only found out after a month had passed and I continued to get charged. That’s when I discovered I had unknowingly agreed to a six-month program.

Had I been properly informed about the length and terms of the contract, I would have never agreed to it—especially considering I was going through some difficult personal circumstances at the time. This lack of transparency felt very misleading and has left me financially burdened.

Even after canceling my membership, I’m now being told I still owe 50% of the remaining months, which is deeply frustrating for a service I never knowingly agreed to.

To anyone considering enrolling in any services at LA Fitness: please make sure to ask very specific questions and do not rely solely on what they tell you in conversation. Read everything carefully and protect yourself, because they may not disclose all the terms up front.

So I see a lot of mixed reviews, but I actually enjoy the gym a lot. I’ve never been to a gym where the staff takes initiative when there are issues to be solved. I’ve been a member at LA Fitness since 2020. While the experience started off great, things have gone steadily downhill over the past year. First, the sauna was permanently removed. Then, the pool and hot tub were taken out of service “temporarily" but it’s now been nearly a year with no update or resolution.

The steam room situation is especially frustrating. I first asked the front desk about it several months ago and was told it’s closed every weekend for maintenance. A few months later, I asked again and was told it has a bug that shuts it off, but I could ask the front desk to manually turn it on if I wanted to use it. So, I tried doing that, only to be told this time that it’s completely broken and unavailable. It’s clear the staff either don’t know the actual status or are just giving out whatever excuse comes to mind.

At this point, only the gym floor is consistently available. All other amenities have been non-functional or inaccessible for nearly a year. Definitely not what I signed up for, and the lack of clear communication or accountability makes it worse. Not to mention it is very much crowded at the peak times, I would rather pay 10$ and join planet fitness ( Which I hate btw because of the crowd, but LA is not much different than Planet Fitness, I think LAFitness is the new PF ).

Very bad. Right now the trash in the men's locker room restroom is overflowing and there are paper towels strewn about everywhere. I told the guy at the front desk. He ignored me and said they don't have any male janitors. I told him that is a big problem and he ignored me. There are male staff here him and another guy in the cubicles they can clean it up. We don't pay for a so called Signature Club for such poor cleanliness and customer service. Big mistake. As an update to my review, a few months ago I tried to schedule my free personal trainer fitness evaluation thing where the head of their personal training tries to sell you a personal trainer package. I could never get an appointment with Kyle outside of M-F 9 AM-6 PM. This is the guy who is supposed to sell the personal training and he was too bothered to show up before 9 AM, when people with standard office type jobs workout. He just ignored my text messages after he said 9-6 M-F only. I never saw this guy when I worked out. I asked the redhead guy to get me an appointment, but only the almighty Kyle can set appointments not him. After that I stopped going here. I started going to a different gym where I got a 7 AM appointment immediately for the fitness evaluation, and I got a personal trainer. Bad service, not clean, broken equipment, and way too crowded. LA Fitness needs to change the management here. It is so terrible compared to the ones I went to in Dallas.

trainer rayshawn has now unsolicitedly approached both of my underage daughters not knowing they are related saying things like: “i haven’t seen you here before, what was your name?” “you look like you workout a lot” “your form is really good but you should try this”

both of them have told him that that they are 16 and 17. his response to the 16 year old was “we can still be cool” and the 17 year old “it’s ok let’s stay in touch”

this is disgusting and gross and the local PD has been notified and taken statements. apparently a few other complaints against him have already been filed and a case is being made.

would advise management to look into this behavior and ask around at the gym about his reputation as my girls have said he’s done the same thing to their friends and classmates. looks to be a guy who spends hours everyday looking for young and underage ladies to accost and manipulate.

They told me they were fixing the Sauna when I was joining... It's permanently closed. They told me they were waiting a few weeks to re-open the pool... it's still closed months later. The steam room is on intermittently. The stations for cleaning wipes to clean machines are always empty. Machines are in various stages of disrepair. Staff are inattentive and always on their phone.

The exact same reasons the Dulles Mall location shut down, and I'm seeing atleast half of the staff from that location has moved to this one.

I'm cancelling my membership today. Planet fitness doesn't have the amenities that LA Fitness does, but then again... the LA Fitness here doesn't have the amenities that LA Fitness has. Id rather pay $15 instead of $60 if I'm getting the same value (except PF rarely has downed machines).

The pool has been closed for months per Fairfax County Regulations (one of the reasons we joined.) however, most nights when we’re arriving or leaving there are people swimming in the pool. The front desk staff either never seems to notice or just don’t care. If you’re going to close the pool, then drain it and stop allowing people to use it. Especially since the pumps are longer cleaning the water, and all the lights are off, it’s unsafe.

I fully support people bringing service or support dogs when needed, no problem with that at all. But during a recent workout at this LA Fitness, someone had their pit bull off-leash, wandering around the gym floor. At one point, the dog got very close to another member’s face while he was exercising, which seemed uncomfortable and distracting.

The owner was giving the dog water in the training area, and I even found dog food near my gym bag. It just didn’t feel appropriate for a workout space. I think it’s totally fair to ask that dogs be kept under better control, especially in a shared environment like a gym.

Hoping the staff can set some clearer boundaries around this to keep the space safe and clean for everyone.

This is one of the best gyms in the area - because of the outstanding team that keeps it running so smoothly.

I’ve been in and out of gyms for the better part of 30 yrs, and this is my favorite.

Plenty of equipment, plenty of space. Sure, if you show up at 5pm on Monday to work chest, you’re going to run into the rest of Monday chest crowd.
Gym is opens as early a 5am on weekdays and 8am on weekends.
My point is if you stay away from peak hrs, you’ll be fine.

I've been a member at LA Fitness since it opened in 2020, and it’s been consistently excellent. The facility is always clean, organized, and fully equipped with everything you need, free weights, machines, cardio equipment, and more. My husband and I have been going to this gym for the past year and a half. We are night owls so we usually go an hour or two before closing. Some of the night staff is really nice and hard working. The cleaning lady is so sweet and keeps the women’s locker room nice. There is a blond woman that works the front desk that couldn’t be bothered to greet guests. She’s always glued to her phone. The gym has had multiple signs up saying the pool is closed and tonight she allowed to people to swim in the pool and they were still in the pool when we left at 10:55. If you’re going to ban all members from using the Pool then there should be no exceptions. Either she allowed them to swim or she didn’t even notice because she couldn’t be bothered to get off her phone. This is unacceptable and unfair. Keep it fair to all guests or you’re going to lose business.

Very disappointed. I registered a month ago and the admin didn’t tell me that the pool is broken and wouldn’t be fix in the next few months. I have asked for my membership refund which they refused. The gym is so dirty and no fix of anything that breaks. 😞😞😞

I was working out there the other day and I realized there was a problem with the machine. Once I reported that something was wrong with the machine, the staff got straight to it and it was fixed within the week. I also love the steam room, it was my first time using it and it was very calming. Shout out to LAF

I just signed up at the gym and I am in love!! The gym has all of the essentials I need plus extra amenities. Weights / squat rack / cables. Not to mention how friendly the staff is. They just opened up an additional room for recovery and stretching as well which is perfect for me. I am looking for a gym that made me feel welcomed and so far it’s been just like that.

I signed up to use the pool at this location as it’s the best way for me to get exercise with my injury. The next day the pool closed and has been closed since with no date of reopening that they can provide. I called to cancel and ask for a refund for the amount I’ve just wasted and they refused to even consider it. Not happy with the member service. There are better options available.

This gym has gone from bad to worse, and at this point, it feels like a scam. The pool was shut down abruptly with some vague excuse about a legal issue and the club not being able to “afford” a lifeguard. This is a Signature location—how is it acceptable to charge premium membership rates while cutting essential services?

The facility is overcrowded, neglected, and borderline unusable. Of all the stair climbers, only 2 or 3 work—the rest have been broken and untouched for over six months. Clearly, maintenance is not a priority. The men’s locker room is filthy, constantly dirty and unhygienic. And the sauna? Never once available during my membership. Yet, LA Fitness has no problem collecting yearly maintenance fees for services that don’t exist.

Let’s be clear: if the amenities are closed indefinitely, we deserve pro-rated refunds, or compensation equal to the value of what we’re paying for and not getting. It’s outrageous that this level of neglect is being brushed under the rug.

As if the broken equipment and inaccessible amenities weren’t enough, the customer service is appalling. I asked the front desk for clarification, and the girl couldn’t even be bothered to look up from her phone. She had no answers, no professionalism, and no accountability. What kind of business is this?

LA Fitness doesn’t care about its members. They care about auto-charging dues, ignoring complaints, and delivering zero value in return. This is not just disappointing—it’s dishonest.

I strongly urge fellow members to contact their finance department and demand refunds, or escalate this issue further. We’re being charged for a level of service that is simply not being delivered.

LA Fitness, you’ve officially lost my business—and any respect I might’ve had left.

Horrifically overcrowded. They need to get rid out of 2 of the 3 worthless Smith Machines and add more dumbbell benches. I have been waiting an hour for a dumbbell bench. They have signs about 20 minutes cardio, but no signs about being fast at the dumbbell benches.

Close proximity to my job and is convenient to work out here after work. Gym is good, but I noticed a person with a service animal but wasn't on a leash and no harness and is a pit bull. Called and asked is it legal to have a service animal in public and not on a leash. Attendant said he is not aware of a rule that demands so.
Do service dogs have to wear a vest in Virginia?
Guide dogs for the blind or visually impaired must be in a harness. Hearing dogs for the deaf or hard of hearing must be on a "blaze orange" (or "safety orange") leash. Any other type of service dog must be in a harness, backpack, or vest that identifies it as a trained service dog.Nov 19, 2024

I’ve had a great experience here! The staff is always friendly and ready to help, which makes for a welcoming environment. The facility is kept very clean, from the workout areas to the locker rooms, which is something I really appreciate. They have a great selection of equipment, plenty of space, and additional amenities that add to the experience. Definitely recommend!

I'm a regular member great amenities however the gym is pretty dirty with mainly the women's locker room and the yoga area being filled with dirt and hair and isn't kept clean. Outside of the wet sauna or dry sauna being broken most often its a good gym for the price.

Overcrowded and I thought that I saw a sign about the pool closing too? I just joined the end of December 2024 and I saw a sign saying that the sauna will be no longer in use. Now, yesterday, February 10, 2025, the pool will be shut down! Let me double check. Also, their shower water turned cold on on or two occasions. In addition, I don't want to get gangstalking calls to take the personal training session. When or if I choose, I will!

Individual in here training his bull dog and staff did not seem to care about it.

To apply for membership, you need to pay an annual fee of $99 and $59 and a monthly fee of 49.98 per month. I joined the membership for swimming. They told me that the swimming pool was permanently closed and asked me to go to his store, but I searched for their other stores. The swimming pool was also closed, and the internal equipment was worn out.

Drove from Leesburg to Herndon LA Fitness on Sunday to workout and take advantage of the steam room. Another member told me the steam is turned off every weekend. Girl at the front desk couldn’t even bother to look up from her cell phone to give me information. Didn’t know anything, totally worthless employee. What kind of BS is this? LA Fitness doesn’t deserve my business. They don’t care about the customer experience, only care about collecting that monthly dues. Can’t wait for Crunch fitness to open!

The pool, sauna, steam room, and pilates room are all closed for maintenance. They still have cardio machines and weights, I think, maybe probably. Management would be wise to simply close the facility until they figure out how gyms work. I am writing to share some concerns regarding the Zumba instructors at the Elden/Herndon facility, based on a recent experience with two of the instructors.

While I understand that scheduling can be challenging, I was disappointed with the Zumba class I attended recently. Unfortunately, a few of the instructors seemed to struggle with rhythm and basic movement (i.e.: Karen), which made it difficult for participants to follow along. Their skills did not seem to meet the standard we typically expect from Zumba instructors, which impacted the overall experience for the group.

I also observed Jenny as the instructor during a Sunday session. Her teaching style did not resonate with the group, and it felt as though there was a lack of energy and engagement throughout the class.

I want to note that I am not referring to Chico or Tammy, as they consistently provide a high-quality and enjoyable experience. However, I would greatly appreciate it if the scheduling team could review the qualifications and teaching styles of the instructors assigned to these classes. We value having instructors who not only have the necessary skills but also create an engaging and energetic atmosphere for the class.

Let’s say that this LA Fitness location is my favourite gym. Staff are very friendly. Armin always greets me with smile and ready to answer any questions I may have. I have been working with my personal trainer Natalie. She is very knowledgeable about what she is doing. I feel great after each session. She brings positive vibes to our workout sessions. I was a member of XSport Fitness for years and now La Fitness bought them
Now in order to use the LA fitness they asking me to upgrade the account which is ridiculous

This is what I call a "mid-scale" gym. Where you have luxury brands like Lifetime Fitness with 24/7 access and amenities like whey bar, basketball courts, and an outdoor water park, this gym costs far less and has what you need for a solid workout, nothing excessive. I give it 5 stars because it's worth the price and gives all I need, nothing more, nothing less.

Pretty decent gym with things spaced out and around, square ish gym floor with racks, cardio, free weights, benches etc the typical gym setup. What I liked was how clean the women’s locker room was, with the jacuzzi being nice and warm…the perfect temp. But the jets were super violent, like the jets were pumping water all over the place and getting on my towel etc. hopefully that gets fixed. The women’s sauna also says it’s permanently closed? I would give 5 stars if the other issues were resolved.

Kids play area is unsafe. Kids are using a broken table as a ramp to slide down on push cars and other kids standing there could get hit by them. I pointed it out to the kids area attendant today and she didn’t seem to care. She tells me “I let them do it all the time” and says it’s okay if you don’t want to put your kid in there.

We recently started using the LA Fitness location with the Kids' Area, but unfortunately, our experience has been far from satisfactory. Our younger child has faced issues almost every day with older kids pushing him or pouring water on him. While that is still manageable, what concerns us more is the unsafe behavior we’ve witnessed.

The older kids have been making ramps out of tables and riding toy cars on them— with kids inside the cars. This poses a serious safety risk, as they could easily crash into the concrete walls or other children. When we brought this to the attention of the caretaker on duty, her response was alarming. She told us that as long as no one got hurt, she didn't mind the behavior. We expressed that it seemed unsafe, to which she rudely replied, “Don’t bring your kid here if you’re uncomfortable.”

That was the final straw for us. We expect at least a basic level of safety and professionalism, especially in a space designed for children. We do not intend to return and will be discussing this with the manager. If you don’t enjoy your job, fine—but the least we expect is for the kids to be kept safe and for staff to respond responsibly when concerns are raised.

Decent equipment but similar to other reviews, staff is very rarely helpful or welcoming. The dry sauna has been out since the end of July with no estimate of when it will return, I've only been told 'several months' when asking managers it's status. And the steam room is consistently not working or will stop working in the middle of the day. Absolutely insane that amenities included in this 'signature club' are often not available. If you enjoy using the sauna and pool, find someplace else.
