I have been a member of LA fitness for more than 20 years and i have been coming to the Springfield location since it opened. I accept LA fitness for the mid-grade gym it is, and I do not ask for much, however it is time for me to find a new gym. I supported the gym throughout the pandemic without suspending my membership (even though I was not using it) because I understood they still had employees to take care of. However, I may have hit my limit, for the past several nights they have shut down the gym 40 minutes early at exactly 10:20pm, claimed power outage and kicked everyone out. If the hours are changing, then management needs to be upfront about it. But a power outage at the exact same time several nights in a row is a hard sale. Also, there are several broken equipment, and it takes a very long time to repair or replace a broken equipment. The lady’s sauna has been broken for several weeks now. I am not asking for much, but I expect the gym to function as advertised and to provide the equipment and services within the hours it claims to be operational. This gym is functioning below average and no longer comparable to other gyms in the area.

LA Fitness at Springfield Town Center

I am very disappointed with the management at the LA Fitness located by Springfield Town Center. Over the past few days, they have been turning off the power around 10:00 PM, even though the gym’s official closing time is 11:00 PM. When asked about it, they keep making excuses.

If the gym hours have changed, members should be properly notified in advance. The app still shows that the gym closes at 11:00 PM, but staff are effectively closing the facility at 10:00 PM, which is unfair and misleading to paying members.

This needs to be addressed immediately. Please ensure that the schedule is updated accurately, and that the facility remains open and fully operational until the posted closing time.

Went to try it with a 3 free day pass after filling out a bunch online. I show up and they say we aren’t honoring the free day pass, but I can charge you $20 for a day pass. I frequent all the DC-area LA Fitness locations, and this one is very nice, with excellent front desk staff. There is plenty of equipment — both free weights and machines — and the gym has a very pleasant clientele, customer demographic (no roid-heads or narcissistic show-offs). The primary weakness is janitorial cleanliness in the men's bathroom and the classrooms. There is room for improvement here. Also, the gym should consider adding soundproofing and privacy measures, such as blinds or curtains around the classroom that holds Zumba (very loud), and Yoga classes. You will sometimes notice guys making a point to work out just outside that room precisely during classes, sneaking subtle perv/psychopath stares at the women working out. Just an observation that privacy blinds would fix.

I’ve been a member at LA Fitness for a while now, and overall it’s a great gym with a lot to offer; spacious workout areas, good variety of machines, and a friendly, motivating atmosphere. The staff is usually welcoming, and the facility is kept fairly clean considering how busy it gets. It’s definitely a solid choice for anyone serious about staying consistent with their fitness routine.

That said, there are a couple of ongoing issues that really stand out; especially with the men’s sauna. It seems like it’s constantly breaking down or out of service for days (sometimes weeks) at a time. The sauna is a big part of the recovery experience for many of us, so it’s frustrating to see it so frequently unavailable.

Another concern is the lack of investment in newer equipment. Some of the machines are starting to show their age, and while they’re still functional, they could definitely use an upgrade. LA Fitness has such strong potential as a brand, but it would be great to see more reinvestment into the facilities; both to modernize the equipment and to maintain key amenities like the sauna more reliably.

All in all, LA Fitness is a good gym with great potential; but it could easily be a fantastic one if more attention and resources went into equipment upgrades and facility maintenance.

This gym honestly sucks. Ceiling falling down on people as they are working out. Dumbbells scattered all over. Half the treadmills don’t work. Machines broken for months. Pool permanently closed. shit gym, theres a few people that attend there that are pretty cool. I came in weekly with the same friend for workouts for months and had also gotten at least 4-6 of my coworkers to sign up. i never got a free month, they didnt provide my friends with any good deals, and to top it off, i got accused of "personal training." They said they were watching me on the cameras for weeks, so I asked "who else had they seen me work out with?" Apparently, knowing how to work out is a red flag. The best La fitness compared to other locations like Glebe and King St. Started coming here in April, I literally drive here from Arlington daily because it’s worth it.

I came to the gym with a guest pass, that was Valid for 7 days. Upon my entry, given I drove 30 minutes away. I was stopped at the front by a woman, who was working, spoke very rudely to me made me wait while she had a conversation with someone else completely unrelated to the gym or membership.

Then she said I am not allowed in with a guest pass and that they don’t accept any guest passes. Mind you I came to this gym the past two days with my guest pass. She was rude disrespectful and gave no valid reason or proof that they don’t accept guest passes. I have seen her behave rudely with customers yelling at them to leave and calling them “broke” before. She is a loose cannon and completely disgusting.

The location is convenient, but it could be more well kept. The bathrooms in particular always have a bit of an icky feeling when you walk into them. I contacted the team today to let them know there was toilet paper all over the floor, a full trash can, stalls with missing toilet tissue and no paper towels.

The only thing that was addressed was the replacing of the paper towels. Everything else remain the same, which was just felt gross. compared to the Kingstown location, this one definitely could improve on its overall upkeep. even though this one is closer to my house, I may have to drive the extra 10 minutes for a better overall experience

I’ve been using LA Fitness in McKinney, Texas, and it’s perfect, so when I moved to DC for at least a year, I decided to try the location here. I explained that clearly to the manager or whoever was signing me in. But the next thing I hear from him is, “Home where? Africa!”That was completely unnecessary. It came off as judgmental, condescending, and prejudiced. Yes, I have an accent, but don’t we all? It made me feel uncomfortable right away.Still, I needed a gym, not just to work out, but also to get work done from the lounge. But to my surprise, they don’t even have WiFi. It’s 2025. WiFi is essential! Then, no towels? Maybe it’s just a DC thing, because every other state I’ve used LA Fitness in offers towels.The place is crowded, hot, and overall not a great environment. So I’ve decided to try another gym.Another thing: working from home requires mental stimulation, and for me, a good gym plays a big role in that.Membership is a whole other issue. I was told it would be $49, but suddenly it turned into $100 because I had to pay for the first and last month. Then, just two weeks later, I was charged an annual fee. Wow.

I must say, I am pleasantly surprised!

This LA fitness location is by far one of the better locations in the DMV. I stumbled on this gym after stopping to the Springfield Mall to pick up an online order from the nearby Target. Since I was out doing weekend errands anyway and had the gym on my list of "to-do's", I figured why not stop here for a quick workout.

From the beginning, I walked in and was immediately greeted by staff. The location was very open and clean, with tons of equipment and exercise machines everywhere. It is split between two levels, with the main entrance including a lounge area and most of the exercise equipment on the second level. Talk about a gym junkie' play ground. This is it all packed in a semi-small floorplan and footprint, but at the same time a well planned-out gym and layout.

I consider myself a somewhat heavy lifter (375 lb Bench and up to 80lb Dumbells) and not only did they have all the weights I needed, they had a few surprise things I wasn't expecting such as CrossFit equipment and a well equipped indoor HITT training area....in addition a full basketball court! Another pet peeve of mine is clean locker rooms, a gold star for this location and clean as expected. Oh! And, let's not forget a lap pool for swim enthusiast.

In all, you cannot beat this location for all the amenities that they have. Initially, the gym appears small at first glance until walk to the main lookout floor on its lower level. It is here that you can find any and everything you need to have a productive workout and change things up every now and then. The only two drawbacks that I noticed about this gym was the broken sauna and the parking which can get tight....because it is shared with the mall parking.

If only I lived closer, this would definitely be my gym!

La Fitness is a terrible company, will make you jump through many hoops just to try and find out how to cancel memberships even though they promise you can cancel anytime. I’ve been to several LA Fitness locations, and unfortunately, this one stands out for all the wrong reasons. The manager seems completely disinterested in helping new members or maintaining a positive environment. His attitude is dismissive, and it’s clear that customer satisfaction is not a priority.
The facility itself is in poor condition—many machines are out of order, the swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, and even showers and restrooms are frequently non-functional. The roof leaks, and overall maintenance appears to be ignored.
It’s disappointing to see such a lack of care for both the facility and its members. This location has potential, but it desperately needs new leadership and proper attention to operations.

I asked their staff at the front desk to cancel my gym membership, and they refused to allow me to cancel my membership while I was there in person. Then they sent me an email, which then required me to create a new online account just so I could cancel my membership, then they do not let you cancel it online.. then they make you physically print out a cancellation form and send it through the mail to them. It’s a decent gym, but they have really shady business practices if you want to cancel your membership.

2025 Update: I rejoined LA Fitness again for a while. Decided to cancel my membership again. Much better online cancellation process this time. Feel like I owed them this update since they actually improved some things.

The reviews posted after mine and my friends was obviously just some staff member doing damage control. I mean why would random witnesses decide to check Google and defend them? We ALL had guest passes that we had signed up with the night before using my sisters account who had been an active member of their club for months now. Note that he also came at her for using “insurance” to pay for her membership. That is quite literally no one’s business. We were NOT trying to sneak in. I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this LA Fitness location. My sisters, friends, and I came in with valid guest passes, excited to check out the gym. Instead of being welcomed, we were aggressively approached by the general manager (Patrick), who immediately began pressuring us to sign up for memberships. He told us we either had to purchase a $20 pass, leave a 5-star review on the spot, or commit to a full membership — otherwise, we wouldn’t be allowed in.

While we were still waiting on a few friends to arrive, he continued to guilt-trip us, complaining that too many people use guest passes and don’t buy memberships, and that he needs to “feed his wife and kids.” He then said that once our friends showed up, he planned to sit them down and give them an extensive tour and sales pitch — or they wouldn’t be allowed to enter at all. He accused us of abusing the guest pass policy even though we were following the rules.

His tone was condescending and rude, repeatedly using the word “respectfully” before saying something disrespectful or dismissive. Ultimately, we were so uncomfortable with how we were being treated that we decided to leave.

This is not how you treat potential customers. We came in excited and left feeling harassed and unwelcome. I hope LA Fitness takes this seriously and reevaluates how this location handles guest experiences.

I already have a valid membership through my insurance (which pays for my gym access), but he still made a big deal out of it in front of everyone, saying my membership is “free” and trying to make me feel guilty.

He even started talking about having a wife and kid, trying to emotionally pressure us into buying memberships to “help him out.” I later found out he’s made a few of my friends leave 5-star reviews just so they could use the gym too.

The transparency with the pool situation is a disgrace and why this gym gets one star from me. The actual equipment of the gym is pretty good, but the pool has me riled up.

Here is how it goes. The pool looks clean and ready for use but the gym puts up a sign that reads it "will be temporarily shut down for repairs and maintenance." Okay, this happens. I ask the front desk when the repairs and maintenance might be fixed? The employee at the front desk has no clear answer but the manager overhears us and tells me it is something LA Fitness is working on with their lawyers and Fairfax County because a new county ordinance came out closing pools without lifeguards, which LA Fitness does not have. The lifeguard thing makes sense but why advertise this as repairs and maintenance? So I hop on the Internet and it takes me to subreddit where customers have heard the same thing and called the Fairfax County Health Commission. It was written on Reddit the county said this was not their doing. To confirm, I called myself and Fairfax County verified they have been getting a lot of calls on this very situation and that they have nothing to do with LA Fitness closing its pool. Paying gym members should expect better treatment from their memberships, especially one as costly as here. This just seems like another way to cheap out. So, way to go. Add Springfield to the list along with the Fairfax and Merrifield LA Fitness branches that have closed their pools but kept the prices the same. What a joke.

What a garbage & terribly run gym full of incompetent workers that lack professionalism with an incredible inability to actually fix anything broken in the gym. Had to cancel my membership online. Instructions below.

Yesterday the manager informed me that the pool will be closed indefinitely because “Fairfax county has closed all pools.” This is lie #1.

Today another manager told me to cancel my membership, I would have to come in person Monday - Friday between 9-5… this is lie #2.

Decent gym. I have been going to this gym for the pool and it was randomly shut down 2-3 weeks ago. When I asked the front desk when it would be open, he stated "I'm not sure, if you want a better answer I would call FFX county to ask." So I am paying for a membership but also need to figure the issue out on my own? Tried to call for an update today, phone rings 3 times then hands up. :) :) :)

Trash Gym, I was a Xsport Fitness memeber and LA took over, which they didn’t ask me if I wanted to continue my membership with them. They just automatically transfer and were charging me. Never went to LA, called to cancel and they said I had to go in person. Me being pregnant and the closest gym was 30+min. I went one evening and they said only 1 person can do that and she is only there 9-5pm. I went another day at 4:30 she left early!!!! Again me pregnant 39weeks feet swollen, and 30+min drive. I told them if they could freeze my account they said with $10 charge!!! Really I haven’t even used or gone to that gym and were charging me monthly payments bc I have to cancel in person. HORRIBLE.

Mainly visit there twice a week. But the locker room is barely ever clean. The floors of the volleyball court are dusty so you don’t have any grip I have requested the floors to be waxed or even mopped multiple times. A few friendly staff but majority of them are rude no warm welcome when checking in. Worst branch but it’s closet to my house unfortunately. Not worth the drive for anyone looking for a gym.

Disappointed with Poor Customer Service

I usually don't leave negative reviews, but my recent experience at La Fitness Springfield was frustrating enough to warrant one. I arrived at the gym with plenty of time to work out, only to find that they lock the doors 30 minutes before closing. This policy is not clearly communicated, and it would have been helpful to know ahead of time.

What made matters worse was the complete lack of attention from the staff. I stood at the door and 3 employees at the desk looked at me and blatantly ignored me. It felt incredibly disheartening, especially as a long time paying member. Last time I checked 30mins is ample time to get in a proper work out especially since I warm up before the gym, stretch at home and don’t use the locker room.

Customer service is a crucial part of any gym experience, and this was a major letdown. I hope they reevaluate their policies and improve staff engagement with members. Until then, I cannot recommend this gym to others.

This LA fitness has greatly improved since the new manager has been there. He really knows his stuff and holds the other guests and the employees accountable. He educates people on proper techniques and helps them decide what memberships are best per person. Since they’ve made these changes I’ve seen tremendous improvements from the entire staff from Jordan PT and Natalia as well. If you’re looking for a well informed staff trying to get your fitness journey started definitely check this location out.

I visited a gym today, and an Asian trainer gave me a tour. The gym didn’t look clean, and the staff member pressured me to purchase a membership. He even made some accusations against me, which was completely unacceptable. The gym was absolutely terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The Asian staff member was extremely rude—I just wanted to see the gym and get some pricing information. I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone.

Had a free 3 day pass for potential new members. Was only there for a few days for a special event and our hotel gym was dismal. Staff was very nice and gym was fully outfitted, 3 stories, full locker room, weight room with racks, benches, free weights, machines, treadmills…. All around seemed like a great gym. If I actually lived there I’d sign up. Parking lot is a mess, but it’s apart of the mall next to a few great restaurants, so it’s just difficult to find a spot. I appreciated them letting us use their facilities. I’m sure they have a temp pass, and if I ever go back I wouldn’t mind paying for a weekend or so to have access.

overall, it’s a decent gym. The variety of equipment, and the group fitness classes are a great way to stay motivated. The location is convenient, and having amenities like the basketball, pool and sauna is definitely a plus.

Compared to other locations like Fairfax, Merrifield, and Alexandria, I find this one to be better in terms of space, variety of equipment, and overall convenience.

That said, there are areas for improvement. The cleanliness of certain spaces, like the locker rooms and bathrooms, could be better maintained, and I’ve noticed lot of issues with cardio equipments or facility maintenance. If they can address these concerns, it would make the experience much better.

All in all, it’s a solid gym with good potential, but it needs more consistent upkeep to truly stand out.
