This gym is more outfitted more for birthday parties and tourists than for climbers. There's way too many autobelays. Bringing a friend who has never climbed before, and planning on belaying them yourself? They have to waste everyone's time passing an autobelay test before you can belay them at all, because that's what this gym is about. There aren't many walls, and much of what's there gets blasted by direct sun, to the point where you overheat indoors. The grigri pluses you have to use are annoyingly squeeky. The setting isn't great. There's no roped slab. If I were a local I would try another location.

Great activity and an overall excellent facility. Unfortunately, the front desk staff member during our visit (Morg) was rude and not very helpful, especially for those who are new or still learning. It really took away from the experience and atmosphere. Some additional customer service training would make a big difference and help the facility match the quality of the activities.

This is the first place I've seen an "Adventure Climb". Good to see creative use of the wall space for a style that is a bit more rare to see.

This place ROCKS! (sorry, I couldn't resist...) There are so many walls and I love spread between autobelay and top rope routes. The boulder walls cover a great range of skills, too! The team is friendly, helpful, and patient with all climbers...even us new guys. The kids love it, and are pushing themselves to resolve some fears (heights, falling, etc.) and self doubt. I prefer this one to the Hampton location because they have more autobelay walls, but Hampton is a nice place to go also.

The whole family use to be members but my husband and I ended our memberships for several factors unrelated to the gym. However, we kept the three kids. Previously, we could use the guest passes for however we wished, including one of us using them for each of the kids.
Now, due to a change in their policy, one person can only use one guest pass a month. This change was only
Communicated by the front desk, as we never received communication about the change in the terms of the memberships. We have considered canceling all the memberships. This is very frustrating, and shouldn’t matter who is using the guest passes.

Don’t buy the prepaid passes.
Really disappointed in this location. I used to come all the time. Husband spend $190 on 10 prepaid passes for me to go. Got injured so wasn’t able to use them for a while. Came in today to be informed that they all had an expiration date of which I wasn’t informed and couldn’t know about since these are virtual passes in their system (not like in my email or visible in any way)
Managers solution: They said I could just repurchase 10 more passes for $190 if I want. Thanks for that..
Just felt scammed, and really sad.
I never ended up being able to use them, and it really wouldn’t have taken much on their part to reactivate them. It’s not like they’re losing money on this. I don’t know just incredibly disappointed in this store. They’re service has really changed. :(
Definitely choosing another one to go to next time.

Latitude overall, at least this location, a lot of times feels more like a Chuck E Cheeses corporate chain than an actual climber's climbing gym. I'm sure it does great for the revenue stream, but as someone that's been a member since 2020, it's a real downer when you come in everyday and there's group of kids so large that they take over the whole gym. Why have I stayed a member? It wasn't this bad before and this gym is in close proximity. But every month I think more about switching to the other gym (the real climber's gym) in the area.
If you've never done climbing before, trying it out for fun or exploring a new hobby, this place is fine. But if you've been climbing for awhile and looking for a place in the area, I recommend passing on Latitude and going for the other company in the area.

We bought a pair of climbing shoes and left them right before a big climbing gathering, they were there less than 48 hours and we were told “ One of the visiting climbers probably stole them.”
My family Canceled our membership after about 9 months because of several I’ll say odd interactions with mid-level management and continued to get strange bills applied to our account for up to 18 months.

I want to start by acknowledging the phenomenal staff at every Latitude location I've visited – they are consistently kind and super friendly. That said, as a member for months, I've become increasingly disappointed with the gym's management. My $80 monthly membership is supposed to come with a free guest pass. Imagine my frustration when I was told my friend couldn't use my guest pass because she had visited with someone else earlier in the month. Seriously? Why should it matter if a guest has visited before? As a paying member, shouldn't I have the freedom to bring whomever I want with my pass?
While $80 a month is a standard price for climbing gyms, other places typically provide fresh routes weekly and cater better to newcomers. This makes Latitude's value questionable, and frankly, the route setting has been a letdown.
To any new climbers in the area, I'd recommend giving Send-It a go. It is a smaller gym; however, you'll find routes that are actually climbable if you've only been at it for a few months. The staff there are wonderful, and guess what? Their guest pass policy makes sense – bring anyone you like, as often as you like, as long as you have a pass, even if they were just there with someone else. Also, unlike Latitude, which actually adheres to punch pass expiration dates, Send-It's punch passes don't expire (regardless of the date on the card). Latitude, it's time to rethink these ridiculous policies.

The best climbing gym in the area. My kids climb there. Other workout facilities and programs as well. Relatively clean, safe environment. Use their free monthly visitor pass to introduce friends. They love it. Plenty of parking. Nice area of Virginia Beach. Friendly staff. Many restaurants in the area if you want to make a longer outing of it.

A good time for casual climbers willing to spend money. Prices are through the roof but unfortunately it’s the only real climbing gym in the area- I know people who have had to quit climbing altogether because the pricing is just too expensive. Hate to see it because they would get way more business if they would lower prices having seen other climbing gyms out of state.

Great staff, clean environment. I've had a membership here for a few months now and I'm very happy with everything. I only wish that there were a true overhang in the gym somewhere and the membership was a little cheaper. I look forward to a Chesapeake location some day as well.
Side note/question: with all the construction happening in the area, there's no chance of this location shutting down is there? I really hope not

Price increases across the board with no new added features or improvements to justify the increase. Another company taking advantage of inflation, increasing the prices of services to extract more money from clientele while the clientele's salaries mostly remain stagnant and they have to take a hit. Won't be renewing my membership here.
The only way to reform this system is to refuse to participate in it, and that starts with individuals making the correct decision.

Happy Sunday…Got invited out by friends to go rock climbing at Latitude Climbing + Fitness (Latitude Virginia Beach). This was our first time rock climbing and we really didn’t know what to expect, but the staff did a great job with making us feel comfortable and safe. They were so patient with the kids. Also encouraging as well. Shout out to Brian and Avery, you guys are the best. This is definitely something you should add to your bucket list for you and your family.

What a terrible first experience. Zero instruction or care from employees. I was really hoping to enjoy this place but I’m not going to pretend that charging me $30 and essentially telling me to just do it is in any way helpful for a beginner. If I could rate zero stars I would based on my experience as a solo beginner

Had my son’s 13th birthday party here. The teens loved it. The staff was great, very patient and great customer service. I would’ve loved a little more set up time for the party and a little more guidance on dividing up the party room time vs climbing time, but now that I know, It’ll be easy to plan another party there. Yes, we’d definitely go again!

We participated in an overnight lock in with Girl Scouts. This was such a fun experience for my daughter. The staff were super friendly and accommodating to our whole group. The girls were educated on procedures and safety. Besides chalk dust, the facility was very clean. The only downfall was that due to outdoor temperatures, in inside temperature was also rather chilly.

Latitude Virginia Beach is fantastic. It’s a great balance of boulder, top-rope, and lead with a solid workout area. The routes are reset on a consistent basis and the route-setters are creative. Gym area is big enough that you can get a solid workout in independent of climbing - mostly CrossFit style gear though.
They use a color grading scale that I actually really like - keeps you from getting in your own head about what you should and shouldn’t be able to do like the V scale tends to do.
Also recommend the classes. Took a lead class here that was very in depth and helped me build a solid foundation.
If you’re just looking for boulder, consider going to their downtown Norfolk location.

Been a member for about a year. Staff is nice and facility is nice.
Leaving 3 stars though because there’s 0 supervision and rules for small children there.
Because of my work schedule Saturday and Sunday are my only two climbing days and those are almost always packed with kids classes or birthday parties.
Nothing wrong with that and I’m glad kids can enjoy it but with parties and at some point in the class the kids are just let loose with little to no supervision and they go wild. Pretty much every time I go I almost kick or land on a kid because they’ve decided to start climbing directly below me on the path I’m on or just run right underneath me when I’m about to fall down in the bouldering section.
I get it’s hard to enforce rules in kids that small but there’s no supervision and I’m really surprised no one has gotten hurt yet but it probably will happen soon. At least have a small kids only day/time or at least let us know in the app that there’s a birthday party going on so we can avoid it.
Good gym but keep in mind if you go on a Saturday or Sunday chances are you’ll have 20+ small children going wild and will constantly have to watch out for them because no one that should be responsible for them is.

I think this gym has a ton of potential, and is a cool spot for beginner climbers. As a gym for experienced climbers, it's not great. I've been about 10 times over the past year when I'm visiting VA- It is a very nice facility, always bright and clean, with a large workout area, new equipment, and numerous exercise classes offered. The staff are friendly and seem ready to help people get set up safely for their first climbing experience. However, as a climbers' climbing gym, it is a letdown. The temperature is always too warm for good friction, and the setting is homogeneous- shouldery, reachy problems are the name of the bouldering game here. I've climbed at 25+ gyms over the last decade, and this gym has some of the more boring setting I've encountered, with little technique even at their hardest grades. Again, this gym has a lot of potential. Some more focus on variety in setting, a systems board or spray wall, and turning down the thermostat could make this a great gym for climbers. As it is, it's more like an "intro to climbing" gym.

Well it is a little bit pricey at the moment for $22 for a day pass not including shoes and harness which are required, I still very much think it is worth the slight price bump.

First time at the Virginia Beach location and I was in awe.
From the moment I walked in, I was blown away. Not only are the facilities clean, state of the art, and well thought out, but the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions and assist with whatever I needed! A great experience from the moment I walked through the doors to the moment my phone rang because I had left my sunglasses and the staff tracked me down, oops! I think my stoke was just too high from attempting such fun routes on their epic walls to remember my glasses. Seriously though, something for every skill level, and regardless of your said skill level, you are going to have a hair curling good time!
The value that Latitude Climbing provides to its members won’t be beaten. Not only can you top rope and boulder, but they also have a fully outfitted Rogue gym. I loved working out with such good equipment and in enough space that you aren’t having to awkwardly step around people. I am...errr “was” a member at another gym but after a day pass at latitude I canceled my other gym because my latitude membership gets me access to so much more while costing half as much.
If you want:
1. Rock Climbing (Boulder, top rope, lead climbing, auto belay)
2. Work out facility (Rogue equipment)
3. Kids Area
4. Fitness Classes
5. Yoga
6. Youth programs
All for a little over 1/2 the cost I was paying for a membership that only included gym equipment, then Latitude is for you! You will not be let down.
This gym is great for expert and novice climbers alike. One thing is for sure, if you are a novice, you won’t be for long if you are climbing at Latitude.
