Absolutely love Lifetime Fitness in Fairfax and Reston! Great place to work out and meet people of all ages. I use the elliptical, treadmill, pickleball, and the hydro massage, and everything is always clean and well run. Pickleball is super social, and the hydro massage is perfect after a workout. It really feels like a community here, not just a gym.

I’ve been a member for almost 3 years now. I signed up for the tier that gave me access to all clubs in Northern Virginia and Gainesville, but they just raised my rate from 189$ -209$ to go to the Reston location randomly and tried to deny entry at the front desk when I’ve been going here for YEARS with no issue. It’s the principle of transparency and proper customer service.

Stop trying to squeeze money from people who have been going here for a long time based on random “changes”.

If these changes are going to be enforced it should be done appropriately not in some unprofessional manner of trying to strong arm someone into an upsell of a contract on the spot. I am considering ending my membership at the end of this month and seeking other options incredibly unprofessional from the Reston location.

I agree with Matt’s review. Lifetime peaked in Y2K. Go support Vida they’re so much better. Have to agree with many of the latest reviews, unfortunately. Been a member for many years and the quality is plummeting across the board. Clearly inept management. They’ll have to start reducing the price. You’d have to PAY me to willingly come here, I won’t even like going for free.

I have been a loyal member at this Lifetime, and it was always a place of respite for me -- until recently. What happened has left me shaken and afraid to return.

When I pulled into the parking lot, a man followed me because I went around him driving slow while he was on his phone.

Instead of moving on, he blocked my car, and began yelling profanities and threats. Two good samaritans stepped in to help me and even walked me to the door, but the man continued harassing me .

When I finally turned and told him "enough, leave me alone," the staff saw only that moment -- not the harassment that led to it. The concierge manager at the front desk, vilified me based on me turning around at the front door while the man kept pushing through me.

I went to the front desk for help, expecting support as it aligns with Lifetime policies. Instead, the concierge manager violated my rights and pampered the aggressor by doing the following:

+ Allowed the man who had harassed me to walk directly into the gym without even scanning his membership ID nor checking him in.

+ Refused me entry.

+ Labeled me both a "harasser" and an "aggressor."

I was terrified and upset from what happened to me in the parking lot and instead of him listening to me, he decided to tone police me.

The two good samaritans verified my story with team members yet the manager still kicked out for the 'way I was treating him'. I did nothing to this man, I asked him to make a report and that's when he said he was going to refuse me entry.

I've read the other reviews here on Yelp and this gym has some serious issues.

The old blonde lady at the front desk was extremely rude and disrespectful. She was explaining the rules in a very aggressive and even was mentioning how she had to be able to sue us to let a guest in. I understand she was trying to follow the rules but the way she was delivering the message was unacceptable.

Been a member here for the past 2.5 years and have noticed a steady decline. The facilities and well built and they are generally trying to update things. However the constant dual music and loud instructors in the open area of the GTX classes overwhelms the cardio and lifting areas.

This is especially true given the fact that there are other closed room offerings that are available. It could be used for this purpose. The fact that they run two different music and a personal class instructor over the loud speakers all at once causes an overwhelming environment for anyone other than those 15 people or so in the class.

My recent experiences at the Reston Lifetime have been less thansatisfactory, which is a significant understatement given my history with Lifetime locations. While the club offers a range of facilities, several operational issues are severely impacting the member experience.

The most glaring problem is the severe understaffing across various departments, particularly noticeable at the poolside bistro and the inside cafe. This shortage directly translates into a lack of efficiency, leading to frustratingly long wait times and inconsistent service. It's clear that the dedicated young ladies and bartenders working in these areas are doing their absolute best and are incredibly accommodating and hardworking. However, they are consistently let down by insufficient support, making it impossible for them to operate efficiently. My heart goes out to them as they strive to deliver good service under challenging circumstances.

A significant contributor to these issues appears to be the management. The manager who frequently moves between the indoor facilities and the outdoor pool area exhibits a highly confrontational demeanor, not just with customers but, more disturbingly, with the young female staff. The manner in which he speaks to them is truly terrible, and I find it deeply concerning and unprofessional. No employee, especially young adults, should be subjected to such treatment. This lack of supportive and respectful leadership undoubtedly contributes to the overall operational inefficiencies and a poor working environment. I would neither want to work for him nor have my child work under his supervision.

Furthermore, the food quality at the club is consistently disappointing. While one might temper expectations given the nature of a club bistro, the current offerings do not justify the prices. Perhaps a reevaluation of the menu or a reduction in pricing would be appropriate, especially if the kitchen is primarily staffed by less experienced individuals.

On a positive note, I must commend the weekend bartender, particularly the tall individual. She is exceptionally skilled, very efficient, and consistently sweet and professional. Her service stands out, and I would specifically recommend visiting on days when she is working.

while the staff's effort is commendable, the overall experience at Reston Lifetime Athletic Club is significantly hampered by severe understaffing and, most critically, by deeply problematic management. Drastic changes are needed to improve both member satisfaction and the working conditions for the dedicated employees.

We have had a generally great experience here with the classes, kids academy, camp and the facility, however the food is SO bad and continues to get worse.

Every time I order something, there is an ingredient missing. Today cheese from my breakfast burrito... when I asked for sauce, I am told it's an extra charge. Not too long ago it was hummus and tahiti from an extremly dry wrap. The offerings in general have been dwindled down so that it's just frozen food that is easy to make... The offerings at the pool cafe are even worse ... burnt nachos.. floppy pizzas... frozen chicken.. and they don't allow outside food. Please please put a little more effort in the food. It would make this place wonderful.

If things don’t improve after the summer I will be canceling my memebership and going elsewhere. The only reason I have stayed thus far is my kid does summer camp at the ashburn location (which is much better than here, even though Reston costs more)! No hip abduction machines, no step up machines, old equipment. The food sucks at all lifetimes not just here. The new pool chairs are great that’s about all I can say.

They removed the play area from the kids space because it was “unsafe”. Even though many other locations have this. They took out the basketball court. Ashburn at least has a court for kids here we have nothing. A bunch of pickleball courts (eye roll)! Please improve this gym before we all go somewhere else!!!!!!

Also they need to add hypervolts to the stretching area like ashburn did! This whole place just needs a facelift before it goes any farther in the dumpster

Have to agree with many of the latest reviews, unfortunately. Been a member for many years and the quality is plummeting across the board. Clearly inept management. They need to fire whoever took over around 2022 and start over. The staff is laughably inept. Food is terrible now, the “Beach Club” experience is laughable, especially the only bathroom that is always atrocious. A few years ago the food was good, the beach club bar setup was nice, there was corn hole and other activities. Towel service was predictable. This summer the outdoor hot tub has not been open once. Trash everywhere, indoor pool deck is a death trap, locker rooms are dirty. Stupid rock wall hours, no availability for pickle ball (just start a pickle ball club and donMt ruin this one). Corporate should heed these reviews and hire all new management. Myself and friends are moving to Vida for now. Advise all curious customers in this price bracket to do the same.

Lifteime Fitness is a victim of its own making. Since the club was built so beautifully, people want to come there. Unfortunately, the number of people using the club is insane. The gym is crowded all of the time, and children run rampant through the halls, locker room, and pool area. Parents are never corrected so they let their tiny children splash around in the jacuzzi and cold plunge. The "beach club" looks like a hurricane hit it. Towels, ice cream, stains, etc., all over the place. Management needs to cut down on the amount of time a parent can leave kids in the kids' club or make certain days or times kid-free in the gym. Also, hire like 10 more cleaning staff. This place is a wreck. The second another high-end gym comes to Reston with an indoor jacuzzi and pool, I am moving on.

Generally a great experience. It has gone the luxury/country club route (aka $$$$)
But it has been worth years of membership with multiple area clubs and nationwide access for similar level clubs. New locations opening regularly
They need a Richmond Virginia location soon

May 2025 update. One hot tub is now a cold plunge tub. You can do sauna & cold plunge in the pool deck now

Used to be an outstanding place for everybody. But they first took out one basketball court and then two months the second one in favor of pickleball. So they have eliminated the mix of people/ages/activity level that used to be attracted to the place. Nice facility with a lot to offer and incredibly friendly people. The staff are welcoming and helpful, and the members are just as kind, creating a positive and enjoyable environment.

There are 6 pickleball courts, massage chairs, and a wide variety of gym equipment. While the equipment is a bit on the older side, there’s plenty of it, and the open layout makes it easy to work out comfortably.

The shower room is well maintained and stocked with clean towels. Both steam and dry saunas are available, but the steam sauna had a slightly funky smell, so I skipped it.

Overall, the facility feels slightly dated but is still well maintained and offers good programs. The friendly atmosphere really makes it stand out.

This gym is great- the clerical staff (Brandon, Justin, and their manager), gym amenities, a clean shower/locker space, and overall great atmosphere. It's on the pricier side of gyms but I think if you use it to the full extent it's worth it. My gym in Reston unfortunately closed, so I was happy lifetime was nearby. Lifetime Fitness in Reston could be a premium experience but falls short in a few but VERY important areas. The amount of options and amenities are impressive, personnel is almost always helpful and welcoming, but cleanliness… definitely something they need to improve. You can tell they don’t clean the gym equipment very often, you can see the dust and dirt accumulated from months, it seems that the cleaning team does not pay attention to detail and frequency. Men’s restrooms look bad almost all the time, dirty towels everywhere, dirty lockers (they never clean inside the lockers), showers, and so on. I understand that it could hard to keep up with no collaborative customers, but Gainesville and Fairfax locations are way better on cleaning, so I could blame the Reston management.

Lifetime facilities are always clean and there is typically plenty of equipment, machines and space in classes. Unfortunately the customer service (in general not just here) is essentially non existent and their turnover rate is atrocious.

Things like the hot tub and steam room are frequently out of order. They are eliminating most of the basketball courts for pickleball. And the membership increases about 20% every year.

Updated 10/18: There’s a slight problem with the Pickleball courts. Although there are regularly scheduled open sessions for dues paying members, it seems that a person could and has sometimes reserved the courts for an additional fee for something like a birthday party or private lessons… Meaning that the regular members are not able to attend their open sessions during that time. This seems like a bit of a snub to the dues paying members in favor of member who is providing a bit more revenue to Lifetime.
This doesn’t seem to be a good way to run a business that is grounded in memberships. They do this with the basketball courts also. Basically, Lifetime does not have enough room to provide open sessions AND fee-based special events. But they do it anyway.
Not happy about this. Feeling a bit ripped off. However, shout out to Lori at the Pickleball desk, who found an open slot for me to play after the 3 1/2 hour , 10/13, birthday party was over. Thank you.
Updated 9/6/2024: New spin instructors! Beth and Dru are awesome. They don’t play the music too loud. They don’t yell at us. Drew has cycling-related fun facts sometimes. These spin classes are great for keeping my knees in good shape. I really like them.

~April 2014: GTX and Ultra Fit classes as well as daily pickleball have contributed to my 9 pound weight loss in ~3 months. Classes are varied so it keeps me coming back. I also like the device for measuring BMI. And the recovery area. Very helpful.
One thing though ... I ended up not going to the spin classes anymore (even though I like spin) because the music and/or instructors are way too loud. They offer earplugs, but I find those uncomfortable, and I don't like to be uncomfortable during exercise. I don't think I am the only one who finds it too loud as I see others putting in earplugs. Management should check the decibel level, as it might contribute to deafness.
Otherwise, a great gym.

I’ve been a member of Lifetime for a while and have always appreciated the high standards the gym upholds. However, I’ve had consistently disappointing experiences at the Lifetime Cafe, specifically with one of the staff members, Ashley. Unfortunately, Ashley comes across as unprofessional and inattentive to customer needs. I understand that her job involves tasks like making sandwiches, which takes time. However, it’s frustrating to see her put a sandwich in the oven and then stand by it for a whole minute, making all the customers wait unnecessarily. This inefficiency causes significant delays, and I’ve noticed that other customers in line often leave due to the slow service.
I hope Lifetime can address this issue with Ashley, as it significantly impacts the overall experience at what is otherwise a fantastic facility.

Join today, it will upgrade your life! Ask for Sales Mgr, Reem Satari... She'll take care of you!

Update Nov '22: It used to be the best. Now it's overpriced and under-maintained. Locker rooms stink and are always dirty. Machines stay broken for weeks. Few good class times are offered and all the great, personable staff that made LT Reston awesome are gone... Not impressed. If I wanted this, I'd pay 1/4 as much and go to Gold's.

March '24 update: Getting even worse from a management and cleanliness standpoint, even though they are trying to make it more "luxe" by adding water massage and cryo chairs, a couple arc trainers, but gym still smells, pickleball is obnoxious and staff doesn't repair/ maintain equipment. Going to Vida. Can't wait!

Lifetime was a great gym. I have been a member for over 10 years and was happy to be a member during this time. However, in the past two years, the club has really taken a toll due to financial greed and unprofessional management. They overfill the club by focusing on selling more memberships rather than improving the quality of the facility and the experience for the current members. Pool lanes are filled to the brim any time of the day, the weight room is a zoo with lifters competing to see who can snag the dumbells or machines the fastest, and the locker room has old lockers that are deteriorating and are always out of order. The gym isn't as clean as it was before with hair and trash on the shower floors, creating an unpleasant scene. All in all, it's a tragedy to see how with all these problems, the only thing that is going up is the membership costs and not the well-being of the members.

I had the displeasure of encountering Tony, an employee at Lifetime Fitness, and it was an experience that left a sour taste in my mouth. His attitude was nothing short of appalling, displaying a level of rudeness and unprofessionalism that is unacceptable in any customer service environment.

When my friend and I approached Tony with a question, instead of offering assistance or even a basic level of courtesy, he responded with blatant rudeness. His dismissive demeanor and lack of respect were deeply disappointing. It was evident that he had no interest in providing quality service or assisting members in any meaningful way.

Furthermore, Tony's penchant for speaking poorly about others was not only unprofessional but also indicative of a toxic work environment. Instead of fostering a positive atmosphere where members feel welcomed and supported, he chooses to engage in derogatory remarks, creating an uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment for patrons.

In conclusion, Tony's behavior at Lifetime Fitness was unacceptable. His rudeness and unprofessionalism tarnish the reputation of the establishment and create a negative experience for members. Management should address this issue promptly to ensure that all patrons are treated with the respect and courtesy they deserve.

this particular facility in Reston is very well built - I'm writing this bad review to flag one issue - I've been to a few different LifeTime facilities all over the country and I think the staff at the Reston branch are the most unprofessional and ill-mannered.

Reston is a great place to live in, so the terrible behavior is not because of lack of access to decent people - it's most likely due to toxic management at the club.

I hope someone from LifeTime's national office can conduct a thorough investigation and replace the current staff (esp the miserable people at the front desk) - I def don't want to be contacted by the local manager to talk about my experience

This gym experience is by far the best experience I’ve had at any gym facility. With my background in training, and even upon visiting many other gym facilities I can’t put into words the level of benevolence and professionalism this gym staff provides. As I worked out I witnessed the GM of the facility (KJ) showing humility and great character by maintaining cleanliness in the weight area. I am a true believer that a great community begins with outstanding leadership, and observing that alone set him apart from any other individual whom I’ve experienced in any leadership position. I was greeted and tended to by the front desk and the training staff with great respect and uplifting treatment. I would give nothing less than 5* to this staff and facility. Though I live 40 min away, I take pride in saying that I will be attending this gym as my primary facility; and any fellow member, as well as new members would be blessed to call this their home gym. I am truly appreciative of everyone that works here and will only recommend this (Reston Lifetime) gym as the gym to join. Worth every penny spent, and I assure a truly exceptional experience for anyone that understands what gym etiquette and professionalism truly is.

Even after disputing the June 2023 charge and having my credit card company rule in my favor, they continue to bill me and harass me with automated email messages and phone calls. So sad that a company that I felt really cared about my satisfaction and welfare for so many years degenerates to this hostile and abusive behavior.

I went as a guest. My only gripe (and it's not specific to this gym) is that basketball courts should only be used for basketball. Very frustrating to go to shoot baskets and there is some class going on!
Otherwise, this gym is as good as it gets. Clean, spacious, modern equipment, places to eat and the spa area was top notice. Good amenities in the locker room as well.

The music playing from the outdoor pool speakers is way too loud. Especially, if you're sitting in the lounge chairs. It's difficult to have a conversation without screaming over the music, and it's completely impossible to concentrate... Note to management, please turn down the music.

Updated review. Lifetime is way too causious about clearing the outdoor area for potential storms. I can see getting people out of the pool. But at least allow them to stay on the deck as there is no inside resting or relaxing area. Very disappointing. Or build an indoor area with lots of relaxing chairs.

I’m really surprised by the negative reviews for the gym implementing their policies or because of a single phone call when someone wasn’t able to answer questions. Lifetime is freaking awesome. Amazing facilities, Brandon at the front desk is awesome, it’s open super late and super early, and the pool is like a resort.

Absolutely terrible location and staff! We a signature tier membership which means it comes with the perks of using the recovery tools such as Normantec leg compression. We are regulars at Ashburn location, but Reston is the second closest where they have Normantec products. So, first off there is no mention on their website about these equipment, so naturally no mention to the fact we need an appt with a trainer to use them. When I inquired about it over the chat service they never once told me I need to make an appt. So, when I walk in through the doors and they scan my card, I ask them about using Normantec and all the front desk said was go to 2nd floor and a trainer should be there at the desk to help me. I go upstairs, no one is there, I ask around a floor associate and he couldn't find anybody to help me. I call the front desk and they put me on hold for 10 mins so I and to hang up and talk to a trainer I found roaming around and since he was getting off his shift, he refused to help. My point is if we need an appt then put it on your website or atleast the front desk should mention it when I am inquiring about it before I drive there and waste my time. If we are unable to use those equipments at our time then what's the point of tier membership. Aloso, theteainer I spoke with was very political when trying to explain something that was not even meaningful.

Those stars are for the front desk only. Today, I called to ask a simple question regarding the guest policy for the outdoor pool. Excuse me, I don't remember the exact name, but someone named Kelly responded to me.

She did not listen to my question and seemed very distracted. She re-asked my question 2-3 times. Her answer was not accurate, as if she did not know how to respond. She sounded impolite and used the word "ummm" between every word.

I asked her a second question: How much would it cost if you have already used your guest passes? To which she responded, 'The full price of a membership.' I understood that she didn't comprehend what she just said. I repeated her words back to her and asked her again what it meant and how much it would be. In an irritated tone, she replied, '$50.'

I requested to speak with the manager, but she informed me that all managers were out. This is not the first time I have asked for the manager at the front desk due to impolite and passive-aggressive responses from a younger girl. It feels like the managers are always absent when such issues arise. Moreover, if she was correct in saying that a one-day guest pass costs the 'full price of membership,' I would gladly pay $50 a month for myself instead of $180.

Welcome to 2023. If you cancel Netflix before your subscription renews, you're not charged again. But if you cancel at LifeTime, you need to keep paying for another 30 days.

They justify this policy by saying that it's "better" than the policies at other gyms. But still, why do they do it?

I talked to the manager there, and he couldn't give me a reason for the policy other than it's a policy and they do it as a "convenience" for me (mmm... I still don't see how, lol).

I would give LifeTime five stars if they could just own it. I've been there for years and like the facilities and the people. But a little honesty would make it even better. Either tell me the reason they need 30 days of extra payments or tell me that they're just trying to squeeze a little more money from me before I leave.

That would be refreshing and merit five stars!

This review is about the pricing policy. While I have no complaint with the facility itself, the annual membership price increases have really soured my experience. My wife and I were original members at the Centreville VA club opening in March 2000. Over the last 23 years, our fees for a couple have almost TRIPLED in monthly dues and the price increases are occurring more frequently now….annually…..last March the price increase was 10%, this year they raised it an additional 16%, so now paying over 26% more than just over a year ago. This is just a harsh and non-consumer friendly to reward longstanding original club members. So buyer beware, the price you pay for your membership dues today will likely be a fraction of what you will be paying in future years. You will likely need to count on annual price increases double to triple the inflation rate.

Shannon is the most amazing Lifeguard ever! We feel safe when she is on duty. As a bonus she is a very interesting person who excudes exemplary customer service.
The cafe staff is awesome, especially Dylan. We miss the outstanding employees that have come and gone. The food is good. The coffee is hot. The dining area is clean. Many member's bring their own food and shakes. We use our rewards card. A typical meal $9, but after 10 meals you receive one for free.
Jeremy is my personal trainer. He is the best. He is a two legged encyclopedia of knowledge. His gift is relaying information in an easy to understand language that is specifically relevant to me. All the personal trainers are professional, smart, and kind.
The "gym" yoga is special. The yoga studio is quiet with its own lobby, tucked away in the back of the facility with great towering windows overlooking the pool.
Pilates is $$$$ + $$$ and is very expensive plus is an additional grand fee.
The pool has many rules about guest and hours. So check before you plan to take your nieces, nephews, friends, or a new boyfriend.
We still miss the water feature at the hot tub. They use to have a water fall that would massage your shoulders and would drown out the noice of happy children enjoying the beach area of the indoor pool.
The towels, deodorant, razors, cotton tip sticks, lotion, soap, conditioner, shampoo, cotton balls, and hair dryers make the locker room feel like a country club. It really p*sses me off when some members take advantage of the hard working staff. It's awful to mistreat the lockerroom ladies. The entire female staff works really really hard to keep the sauna, steam room, and showers clean.

Ive been to the gaitherburg and rockville locations in MD and they are soo much better. This places customer service absolutely sucks. Always so rude and unhelpful. Also for such a big place and "premium" quality they charge compared to the other locations is a joke. Rockville which is like half the size is nicer and has more stuff than this big balloon. Filled with hot air just like the employees there. I would also like to add that the lack of gym etiquette here is absurd. Been to many gyms and they have no where near as bad as this sorry excuse for a premium gym

LifeTime Reston is a very clean, member friendly lifestyle club. It is more than a gym, with high ceilings, big windows and with great atmosphere. More to it is staff like Nadya! I met Nadya when I first came to tour the facilities back in May. Nadya was friendly, informative and gentle. She is not a sales person, rather a friend! All other staff at the concierge and the rest are great, too. Nadya answered all of my questions and made me feel at home! Members coming to this location all seem very happy. Sauna, Steam room and every corner in this location is well maintained and super clean. I had a chance to eat their healthy chicken salad from the outdoor pool cafe, and I wasn’t expecting to get a tasty salad, loved it. They also have healthy snacks and drinks. Huge parking lot. Even on Memorial Day, we were able to find chairs by the outdoor pool. Definitely recommend who is considering to become a member.

Prospective members beware - the lack of gym etiquette by a majority of gym members is staggering. What you can expect on a typical day at this Lifetime are 1. Members not wiping down machines after use; 2. Weights being put back incorrectly; and 3. Members not deloading equipment after use. I have spoken with staff and they have not addressed these issues nor have plans to. This lack of response is concerning due to the high membership fees; you would expect more from a premium fitness club. These statements are true as of May 18, 2022 and I will update this review with any changes.

It’s unfortunate to be writing this because I’ve been a member of Life Time since the club opened. The reality is that the price continues to increase but the experience is declining. They really pack them in now and the equipment I want to use is often taken. The worst is the pool where it is difficult to find a swim lane because the swim teams take over the majority of lanes from the afternoon into the evening. I realize the club makes extra money from those teams, but it would be nice to have regular members get a window of use after normal work hours. I would put my son back on the swim team but he doesn’t want to join because they had a coach that yelled at the kids and got rough with a couple of them before getting fired. Overall, you pay for a premium experience but I’m not getting that anymore and looking for another club.
