The outdoor pool is fun and they've stepped up their game with certain membership requirements but a few changes could be made to improve the overall quality of experience; new lounge chairs would be nice considering a good bulk of the chairs are broken. I also overheard complaints from moms about the kiddy pool scratching their toddlers feet because the pools concrete flooring is not smoothed out correctly. The lap pool needs to be cleaned more often. The past three visits, I've attempted to swim laps, but it's covered by so many bugs that it makes the lap lanes unpleasant. The outdoor pool is huge and has potential, but a few changes would ultimately better the quality of each members experience.

Just feel that all members should be warned to not go to the facility expecting to swim in their outdoor pool. You can use the inside one but if you want to swim in their outdoor pool youβll need to pay about 300-500$ for a separate membership.

This pool is warm. It's over crowded and the bathrooms constantly need attention. There is almost never any soap in the dispenser and at least I know the women's restroom smells awful.
They increased the rate this year and I was hopeful that this would mean better sanitation and pool monitoring but I unfortunately things are worse than last year.
After our first heat wave it was very disappointing to have a warm pool and it's only June!
I most likely will not continue our family membership here in the future unless steps are taken to provide clean restrooms and cooler water temps as the price isn't reflective of the offering anymore

The Director here Mrs. Harvey is beyond amazing. You can see her leadership, influence, and engagement with her team. My daughter is a 8 years old TD1, being a TD1 parent is tough on itβs on and Mrs. Harvey cares for her as though she was her own. She had invited me to trainings, introduced me to her team and made me completely confident that while my child is at the YMCA she will be cared for not only emotionally and mentally but physically with being an diabetic. This entire team is a reflection of the amazing leadership of Mrs Harvey.

Pool is always simply full with kids .Understandable they bring in money but barely any lanes are left for anyone else. The only time possible to swim is basically early morning or afternoon. So you either have to miss sleep or miss work or both to get access. Please do better and open more lanes for other swimmers for we pay for membership also.

We had to wait for 30 minutes to get inside the pool and when the 30 minutes was over they kept adding another 30 minutes to the wait. We then went to ask two teenagers that had worked there if they were closed and they lied and said yes and went to go make out at their car. So my kids and I waited a whole 3 hour in the car for nothing.

We originally came to the Y for before and after care, and ended up joining at the same time. Since that time, we have had the pleasure of my daughter taking several classes, child watch at the gym, my use of the gym, Camp Saponi (summer camp for kids), and outdoor pool. My daughter *loves* the Y, she loves the people at before and after, the counselors at Camp Saponi (and if you ever need to know how a kid is being treated, their opinion of the ones in charge tells you everything, she LOVES every last one).
Not only that, but it's affordable, close by, and while I personally only occasionally use the gym (I built a home gym during covid), it has been the best decision for my daughter and the opportunities and classes that are all right there for her. And the pool is great :) Pretty much every staff member we've encountered has been great too!

Not a bad YMCA, I just wished my son and I could have play a game of hoops without thirty teenagers thinking that they own the whole court. Not one YMCA member there to regulate open court for all members. This issue wasn't just affecting me it was affecting other members who are trying to play as well. Not my first time being disappointed with this organization, probably won't be my last.

I am a member of the Y and can't say enough good things about it. I am an older woman, concerned about staying healthy. I worked with Jonathan, a personal trainer for a few months, to make sure I am doing things right, work on strength and balance, form... and it was an incredible pleasure. Jonathan encouraged me, helped with every little thing, but most of all -- he believes in me and the ability to get stronger as I age! I would encourage anyone looking to start a fitness journey to work with a personal trainer [like Jonathan!] at the start. I also take Yoga, Pilates and Zumba classes at this location and all the instructors are wonderful.

I don't participate in any programs and activities but I do use the circuit and cardio equipment. It's nice that you have removed a partition between the main weight room and a smaller room containing circuit equipment, and also that you have rearranged some of the machines so they are over by the big windows. It's good that as Covid restrictions are lifted, some equipment, such as the TRX, are once again in use.One more detail: it's nice that you have the hand bicycle. Not all Ys have these. I have a relative whose therapist says that they are excellent cardio for people returning to fitness activity after illness or injury. I saw someone using it as I came in for my workout and thought that its placement is good - it's not off in some corner but up front where it will be noticed.

11/27: Came back for the first time to a newly updated weightlifting area. Barbells and weight plates were all refreshed and some of the benches are either brand new or reupholstered. Equipment distribution is improved. Great updates.
Weightlifting area's design is not optimized. All barbells' sleeves are poorly maintained and have extreme friction when putting on plates. Has one pair each of bumper plates from 10 to 45 lbs, which is nice. Normal weight plates are lacking in certain poundages like 25, which you will often have to walk around to find spares. Often a short to significant wait time for the half rack, which is the only station for squats, especially during summer. I had a streak where I got unlucky enough to have someone occupying it for like 2 months straight on my leg days when walking in. I started driving all the way to the Swift Creek location on leg day, which has multiple squat stations, to avoid this issue. Has a good 45 degree sled leg press, one Smith machine and one area designated for deadlifting/off-the-floor lifts. Not lacking in other categories of bodybuilding equipment. Mainly squat/Dlift stations which is not an uncommon gripe for the average gym and this gym is no exception, but the improvement is relatively easy. Dumbbell lifting area is placed along the windows with only small section covered by a mirror. No hack squat machine, no Glute Ham Raise, etc. Just your basics. Clean gym. Decent set of lever machines but most don't go heavy enough for bodybuilding.
Nice upgrades to water fountain which has touch-free bottle detection for refills. Nice staff.
Overall though, if you're primarily looking for a good weightlifting location local to Midlothian, this is not worth the 50/month (month-to-month) that you'd be paying at Am Fam for their year-long contract or 13/month that you'd pay at Harbour Pointe Gold's, which is a month-to-month (with big up-front fees) and a true 24/7 location.
Suggestions in order of what is most important (IMO):
1) Get a 2nd half rack
2) Switch the locations of the cable complex and the dumbbell lifting area and reposition as much of the dumbbells and benches alongside the disconnected wall with mirrors as possible so people can inspect their form on the benches. Mirrors are nice to have for a cable complex but not as necessary as they are for dumbbell lifts
3) I am no expert in BBell maintenance but seriously, the sleeves are totally junked. If there is a way to resurface them or replace them, please do this. The hassle of dealing with the friction is enough to dock a star by itself. It's not just the hassle itself but the overall reflection this has on the amount of thought or awareness you have regarding the quality of your equipment
4) Take a couple of the bench presses and/or shoulder press back to the empty side where they originally were. My assumption as to why you crowded all the presses to one side is because of the awkward weight plate distribution combined with a lack of floor exercise/stretching space. By taking all the presses and compressing all the equipment on one side has led to a cramped feeling. Additionally, purchase additional plates to adequately service all equipment and not lead to awkward plate distributions on the floor. Two presses returned back to the other side will not require a big amount of plates to be left in that section.

Nothing special here. They need to take better care of their facilities. Holes in the walls of the showers..... pretty gross and disturbing and flies everywhere in there too. The pools are not very clean. In the outdoor pool especially, it's constantly merky with debris floating all over the place. The indoor pool surrounding tiles regularly retain water which is gross, and is clearly aging. Rust all over the surrounding wall of indoor pool. Other than the pools the staff is friendly and helpful and the weight room and cardio equipment is plentiful.

Just joined 3 weeks ago and I am thrilled beyond belief! The staff here is so friendly and accommodating. They have assisted me with machines and the proper use of them to help me recover from an ACL replacement. One staff member spent a good amount of time making sure I new the correct settings on the equipment, suggested the amount of weight and repetitions. Staff genuinely greet you and even ask you how your swim or workout was. To top it off, it is clean, modern and beautiful with more amenities than you could wish for. It is now one of my new "happy places". I love being able to choose between swimming in or out doors. I have also met several new friends with similar interests. No regrets here, which is a common phenomena when you join a gym!! The price is Right too!!
