This gym closed down and the owner now has a nearby Planet Fitness. Real gym rats are not welcomed at Planet Fitness so for them to try to automatically port my membership over to Planet Fitness was insulting. They charged me $10 for a gym that I would never use and make you jump through hurdles to get your $10 back.

I have gotten stuck paying them. Called to cancel my membership and they say you say to come in, or mail a letter. I mailed a letter right then, and they continue to bill me. I moved away. Gym was over crowded when I was there. Feels like they have enough members to let me go.

Great gym. I am so sorry to hear Sterling Olympus Gym on 308 Glen is going away this fall and their customer list will be sold to the undertaker of gymnasiums: Planet Fitness.

I've been going to Olympus in Sterling for years. I love it for a dozen reasons. Open most of the time. It has 2 squat racks, and barbells, which is the only equipment I use or care about. The 308 Glen location is perfect for me. The $10/mo price is ridiculous.

If you're looking for a inexpensive place to do strength training that is open most of the time (24/7 except weekends), this place is almost perfect. I say almost for a few reasons:

1) if it was open 24 hours all week long I would gladly pay more.
2) needs a third squat rack.
3) it's going away soon. The member list will be sold to the 22585 Fitness Court Planet fitness, currently under construction. This is sad to me because a gymnasium is a place where you go to lift weights. Planet Fitness is the exact opposite of a gymnasium. The PF business model is good for someone who wants to only spend $10 a month, and bad for anyone who wants to heavily use a gym.

Gyms like that can only stay in business by having a large base of users who do not spend a lot of time in the facility. $10 a month per member just isn't enough money. The ten dollar model only works for gyms that way oversell memberships then try to weed out, or drive out, people who actually are interested in fitness. At some gyms, like PF, they do this by eliminating basic strength training equipment (i.e. "weights": barbells, squat rack etc.) or ridiculous restrictions on plate clinking noises, specific exercises, sweating or breathing loud.

I would gladly pay double for a nearby gym where that does not happen. Perhaps that will not happen at the new PF that will be replacing Olympus Gym this fall. However, my past experience with PF tells me that's how it works.

Anyway, I'll be sad to see Sterling Olympus Gym on 308 Glen go away this fall because I love it there. Sterling Olympus Gym is a good facility.

I worked as a paramedic locally in the area, my job moved me toa different site that was a 100 miles from sterling not by my choice. I guess they were sending notices, to my old address, my card they had on file was stolen and it's my fault for not cancelling and forgetting i even had the membership. When i got wind of the notices i called in and explained the situation, they lowered the amount they wanted marginally ti close the account. After I paid they told me they actually told me they couldnt cancel the account after all over the phone that I had to come in person or send a certified letter felt weird I wasnt told that before I paid it off anyhow pretty shady. I get it it's a contract however My old job years back I was a director at sport and health in gaithersburg now called one life fitness, based off the situation I would have been more accommodating to the customer based on the situation, I felt they were desperately gouging me for as much they could get and telling me afterward the transaction was done I couldnt cancel unless I came in person some legal reason, I have never heard of. I worked in a gym for 3 years but perhaps maryland has different rules. Anyway I'll let my first responder buddies in the area steer clear, it will cost them more money in the end they could have gained from more memberships as I would have recommended otherwise. Now that I think about it they did have my cell# and could have left a voicemail which would have solved this issue as well.

I really like this gym! I switched here from Planet Fitness. It's the best you can get for $10/month. Really good selection of equipment, and the machines are hardly ever out of service (unlike Planet Fitness...). Friendly staff. My only complaint is sometimes the WiFi is spotty, but that's only when it gets really busy or if you're in a certain part of the gym.

Great gym. I can usually get the equipment I need when I need it. Probably need to add a second squat rack. I've also noticed a few of the machines have been broken for an extended amount of time. The staff is A++. They are always friendly and helpful. They remembered my name after going only a few times and I didn't even interact with them much. No other gym even comes close to beating the price.

Got a cheap membership at 20 dollars a month for 3 months, had just about everything I wanted in terms of weights and equipment.

Spare bars were available for bent overs and deads, but no well defined space to do them.

There was a lot of room and space that I didn't use, such as the cardio stations, entire rooms for abdominals and bodyweight.

Great gym for the price, and the staff are consistently pretty awesome. I only have two gripes: One is that the dumb bells only go up to 90lbs, the other is that the limited bench space is almost always occupied by either bands of little fellows that can't lift more than the bar (you can't do push-ups instead?), or by solitary fat dudes that see a bench as a soft place to relax, and occasionally lift a minute weight.

Fair for price. I picked this gym because of the location and price. . I am tempted to go to another gym despite the price (9.97/month) because the equipment is old and dirty, same pieces of equipment are still out of order (i.e. leg press), steps in the stair-stepper have holes in them and the same pile of dirt is in them. And the entire gym is dirty. I never see anyone cleaning or staff doing anything other than behind the counter. I am no neat freak and even I was turned off and dread going to the locker/bathroom. To the owner, all these items are easy to correct, Have your staff do a bit more than watching people check in. I hope you do. When I signed up, I should have looked closer at the equipment and rest rooms. I understand for 9.97/ month I can't ask for much but it truly is dirty and hope this helps other potential new members decide.

I was in town for 2 weeks and my hotel gym wasn't the best so I ask to use there gym for 2 weeks and they agree to it for a $25 which wasn't bad the gym is great and the staff was really friendly I enjoy going to it better then my gym at home I wish they had a Olympus back home so I could sign up but unfortunately they don't. 5 stars and would definitely recommend

The Gym is $10/month. Enough treadmills, free weights and equipment available and you can't ask for more with that price. Open 24 hours 3 days a week is another add on. Can't beat the price and the timings. Cancellation needs you to come in personally after the first month is over or send in a letter by mail. There is no customer service call center available if you are trying to cancel over the phone or online. This can be a issue if you are coming in for less than a month and move out of state. Other than that everything else is good.

It was horrible, went to cancle my membership and called, Mike picked up and treated me with such disrespect telling me I had to write a letter and mail it or physically come in to the place, i was so appalled by the way he treated me I will never recommend this place to anyone and he then proceeded to tell me "you haven't even been here long" 8 months isn't long? I am sorry I am not as fit as he expects, by judging me by my appearance really upset me, I will never go to an establishment owned by them, I'd rather drive an hour to a different gym where they treat you with respect and a valued member!

Gym Equipment wise is very good. But there is an Idiot called Mike. He is the owner of the Gym. Never saw a smile on his face in 2 years. Always has a wierd look and talks rubbish. We are paying and using the gym and he is not doing is a favour. He is very serious and does not know how to respect people. There is a trainer named Terry and he is very worst trainer. Do not get trapped by his kind words. He is a Fox. There is a spanish guy who cleans the equipments, he is Awesome. There is one more person named Donny and he is very very good person.

Gym wise it is ok to use it but do not talk to those people.

It's not as shiny and fancy as a lifetime fitness but for someone who is self conscious about going this gym is great. The value is great bc of the hours I can go in the middle of the night when I start going back as I start and stop often and I don't feel bad when I haven't gone bc it's only $10. I used to be upset with my old gym when I would want to work out at an odd hour and they would be closed but not here Yeah weekends but the employees deserve weekends too.

A basic no frills gym. I don't understand the reviewers saying the staff isn't friendly. That hasnt been my experience.

This isn't a Golds or LA Fitness. If you need to work out where it's pretty, this isn't the gym for you. But if you just want to work out it's perfect. $9.97/mo.

The staff is so rude.... God forbid you cancel your membership with them .... the guy who takes care of that is the rudest person I have ever met. He will be all up in your business asking you why you are canceling your membership. He gets too personal and so annoyingly rude. If you cancel your memebership you have your reasons, there shouldn't be a need for interrogation as of why you decided to do it. Once you cancel your membership you will know who I am talking about, the rude guy with freckles. The only thing I know is that his initials are MS, don't know his actual name.

I went in there for a 1 day trial and it was the worst experience beside the front desk diego being kind. I went in there for a zumba class and the instructor vicky was the worst just because people were late to her class she pause the music and yelled and said your holding up the class like no she can continue her class is not like people cant catch up. She is not very friendly at all the worst. I wouldn't recommend taking her class, now i don't know about the equipment because i left after the instructor yelled at me.

Today I went to cancel my membership because I moved not far but i prefer driving 2 miles less. First thing I noticed was the owner/manager I guess talking to someone on the phone and the only thing I heard was" do you want to cancel? Why?........customer talks then ..Olympus guy: Why you wanna cancel then customer.......olympus guy why why why why and he went crazy about the customer cancelling and hung up the phone. Then it was my turn since i preferred to go in person and get a written confirmation from the gym. I said Hi I need to cancel my membership please. Olympus guy said: And why you wanna cancel ...in a very rude manner...I sadi because I moved...He said: Where? I said here in Sterling a few miles away...and he replied so if you are in sterling why you wanna cancel. Then I said well because I would like to move to a closer one. then Olympus guy said well that's all you have to say that you are going to another gym...Very Mad... At that point since im very good handling sales pressure and tactics I said: Does it bother you my friend?? He replied of course it bothers me (Yelling at me) I said well it should bother you and you should not react and talk like that to the customer because you are losing your little cheap 9.99 monthly. He replied well I hate customers cancelling I hate when they are leaving. I said I work in the insurance and service business and if someone leaves I try to make the last sale (The comeback option) I always tell them well thank you for your business and if you ever think on Insurance and taxes you know you have a good option you ve using for years) SO I GAVE THIS NUT MAN AN ADVICE BUT HE SAID DON'T WORRY IM GOOD IM JUST TRYING TO MAKE IT SO THEY STAY. hello all,
my son was a member in this gym for the last 5 years and I "mother" was paying for his monthly payment; (we started when it was $20/month I think and we weren't allowed to cancel our subsc before the due time back then" or so was the rule. since my son was so busy he didn't use the gym for the last 4 years (so the money was just being paid via my CC and we didn't cancel hoping that he would use any time when he can) guys you won't even believe what happened to me tonight: I went there around 6.44 pm and asked to use the gym but since the membership was under my son's name one girl and a boy(employees) told me I can't do that unless my son comes and transfer the membership to me; I gently requested them to let me use just for tonight and I will bring my son tomorrow and do the transfer; they agreed and guy told me it's OK just for tonight but I should do the necessary steps with my son tomorrow (HE EVEN TOLD ME MY SON DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO COME IF HE IS BUSY AND HE CAN WRITE ME A LETTER OF TRANSFER AND SIGN IT) I told him this is even better and went on to the gym and after exactly 20 minutes the same girl (employee who was standing by the guy and who I SWEAR SHE CLEARLY HEARD THE GUY WHEN HE ALLOWED ME TO USE THE GYM) she came and told me to stop using the gym and to come to the front desk. when I went there I found the manager (wasn't there when I came in the first time) the manager (his name is Tony) told me I shouldn't have used the gym; I told him that his two employees allowed me to use it and I told him the whole story; he called the 2 employees and asked them if they allowed me BUT TO MY SURPRISE THEY DENIED IT TOTALLY!! guys I was about to faint I JUST DIDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING IN FRONT OF ME! I GOT ANGRY AND ASKED TO CANCEL MY SON'S MEMBERSHIP; TO MY SURPRISE THE MANAGER AGREED VERY QUICKLY AND GAVE ME THE PAPER TO SIGN THE CANCELLATION (EVEN THOUGH THEY TOLD ME FIRST THAT THE MEMBERSHIP WAS UNDER MY SON AND THEY CAN'T DO THE TRANSFER UNLESS HE AUTHORIZE IT- SO HOW COME THEY APPROVE THE CANCELLATION THEN?) anyways I ASKED TONY TO LET ME HAVE ACCESS TO HIS MANAGER BECAUSE I WANT TO TALK TO HIM ; HE REPLIED ME IN A VERY RUDE MANNER THAT HE IS THE BIG MANAGER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT AND THAT HE HAS NO MANAGER ABOVE HIM! I've been a member for five plus years as well. It's the only other gym in the Sterling area that has racquetball courts, just wish they would get swept once and a while. The dust balls/bunnies are vicious & dangerous (slippery floors). The staffer are always friendly too. And like the others said the price is unbeatable.

I've been a member at this gym for over 6 months. I use mainly free weights, cable machines (lats and tricepts), treadmill, and bikes. There is generally no wait for any exercise I'm doing. The only equipment I generally have to wait for is the flat bench, but that's just about any gym.

I've never had any problems with the staff or anyone else, always plenty of parking when I'm there. My only complaint is the carpet in the locker room is pretty gross, and should be replaced with tile or something. Just make sure you bring shower sandals, and you'll be alright.

I love this gym, and as long as I live or work near by, it's where I will be a member.

Hardcore Old Skool Gym, not a fru fru gym.

OK, if you are new to gyms and need to be walked thru every machine then you might have a different experience then my wife and I. However we love this gym, yes the $10 a month is a factor, but the staff has never been anything but friendly to us. I lift and she does cardio, every machine she needs is there as well as a full range of machines for her to do circuit training. The thing I like about it is when I bench 315 I am sure there is someone there able to spot me. Also it is nice to see people working out, not posing, not there to meet chicks and not in my way. The evenings can be a bit crowded, but that is any gym. Even when it is crowded there are still machines and you can work in with most of the patrons (the only reason I say most is I didn't want to work in with the dude benching 405 :-) )
