I’ve belonged to many gyms and OneLifeFitness is among my favorites. Especially the Old Town, Alexandria, location. The staff is always friendly and helpful (Lannia is a great manager)! I mean always… equipment is great. The locker rooms and bathrooms are tidy and clean. Classes are good but do wish for more spinning clssses at different times.

A gym in an office building? Yes! I've been working out here for almost 3 years. Wonderful staff! Managed well and training dept is committed to you and your fitness goals (mental & physical). Perfect gym if you're looking for a health-club atmosphere, family friendly vibes, convenient location and lessened wait time for equipment. It has all you need to achieve your goals- functional training areas, cardio section and free weight area. Towel service is included and there is a dry sauna as well as a Recovery room coming soon! Members have a 15% discount on Serenity Day Spa services (Massages, Facials, Nail services and Hair salon [located on the Lobby level]) in the building. There is 2hr/3hr street parking and an Upper Deck garage too. Highly recommended.

I joined Onelife Old Town almost two years ago. Prior to Covid, I’d been a “gym rat” most of my adult life and was just looking to get close to my former level of fitness after three years of basic workouts at home. I have well surpassed that level and, in my 70s, am in the best shape ever. A major factor is a great trainer. The other is state-of-the-art equipment that allows me to add incrementally more weight while making it virtually impossible—with proper instruction—to injure myself. I love this place.

Under a multi-club membership, I’ve exercised at OneLife Old Town for the past three years. The gym itself is well-provisioned, with ample space and equipment. It is well-maintained, consistently clean, and offers a full range of resistance stations, along with the traditional range of free weights.

The location has a diverse group of trainers, and membership matches that diversity. Given its location in Old Town Alexandria (Virginia), the membership might skew slightly to an over-50-year-old cohort, to which I include myself.

A recent feature that I've found very useful is the Recovery Room, featuring Red Light Therapy, HydroMassage, Percussion, and Compression Therapy.

What I find most useful at this location is the number of group exercise classes offered there. Most of these classes are held in one of two large gymnasiums, and classes are offered throughout the day – starting early (at 6 a.m.) and ending late, typically lasting an hour each. I’ve regularly attended Pilates, barre, and OneLife’s high intensity interval training called APEX.

Also available are classes in yoga, breath, and meditation, kickboxing, Zumba, Tai Chi, Decade Dance Express, and proprietary training, including LesMills Body Pump and Body Combat, SoulBody Barre, and Cycle Express 30. On any given week I’ve counted more than 60 group classes, all held in one of the two large rooms.

My only concern – and it’s not really a complaint – is that recently classes in Tai Chi have been scheduled to end with only five minutes between those classes and the long-standing APEX and Body Pump classes. This becomes a problem when the Tai Chi instructor continues her class beyond the scheduled ending, cutting into time for the two noon-time classes that follow Tai Chi. Perhaps this is the price we must pay for having lots of choices in classes; but some thought might be given to ensuring sufficient time is scheduled between classes. That’s currently not the case on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Since you only have one life don’t waste any of it at this lackluster gym that will go on charging you nearly two months after you tell them you want to cancel. It is a tired dreary place with limited hours, old equipment, and very aggressive billing practices.

Just joined three weeks ago. So far nothing to complain about. The gym is much bigger in person with pretty much everything you could need. Free weights, olympic bars, bumper plates, Smith bars, dumbells up to over 100lbs. All kinds of accessories, plenty of machines, tons of cardio equipment, trx straps, ropes you name it. I have not done any classes because that is not my thing. But all in all a solid gym. Also the staff seems helpful without being overbearing.

I’m not someone who usually writes Google reviews but I’ve hit my breaking point with this gym!

Pros: this gym is conveniently located and is really the only gym in the area of this size. The classes I’ve tried have been great, with high quality instructors and there’s a wide variety of classes. The people this gym attracts have good gym etiquette, are respectful of space, and generally make the gym a welcoming place to be for people of all fitness levels.

Cons: I’ve been a member for 2 years and there have been over 10 times that the gym has not opened on time. I go to the gym at 5 am Monday-Friday and there have been several times where I get there and there is a huge line of people waiting— no one is at the front desk, all the lights are off, and there is no number to call for help. Every time I’ve waited for about 10 minutes and then left— other members have told me that it takes an hour plus for someone to come to open the gym. After a few of these incidents, I reached out to the manager who assured me it wouldn’t happen again. It has happened primarily on Thursday mornings and recently stopped— we have had several months of no issues. However, this morning, the gym did not open and I am therefore writing this review, as it feels like management does not take this issue seriously. If you are a gym that says they open at 5 am daily, you need to open at 5 am daily. For the price that members are paying, they should be able to staff the front desk with more than one person, or at the very least have someone we can contact if this happens again.

I want to love this gym, but this issue has continued to persist and makes me want to join somewhere else.

Great view of the Potomac while you're working out, tons of equipment, and I love that you can get unlimited classes. The only thing is that there's another OneLife less than a 10 min drive away that's half the monthly price, so I've switched to that one!

Not impressed at all by this location. It is an " okay gym". I took a week pass and attended a dozen of classes. Cycling classes were extremely boring: lack of energy, lack of motivation from the trainers... the studio is very small and you have to work in a corner when classes are busy. The main floor with treadmills smells like sweat and humidity. The gym is on 3 floors and it looks like an old office building.
When I first came in, nobody suggested to give me a tour of the facility so I was kind of lost. For the price you pay, you expect a top notch facility and services. It is not. Then I tried the Chrystal city location: wow! What a difference. A warm welcome with a complete tour, sparkling and modern building, amazing classes with extra dynamic and committed instructors. And a pool (no pool at old town, another disappointment). Will stay at Chrystal, Old town you must do better.

I've been going to OneLife in Clinton, which is new, spacious and just gorgeous. When their schedule doesn't work for me, I occasionally go to Alexandria, still good, although not as nice. This week I came to Old Town location for the first time, because their group class schedule was the most suitable for me. First, I had problem finding parking. I guess it's just the first time coming, next time I'll know. But there are no signs to navigate where to go. I ended up parking on the street. The gym itself doesn't look great, it's looks like an old office building that was transformed into a gym. A lot of hallways, stairs and small rooms connected. The front desk informed me that this club is the "Signature" and I'd have to pay $10 extra for a visit, but she'd waive it since I didn't know. I attended the class. The instructors, Paulina and JJ were both amazing, with great energy and I enjoyed good workout. However, the group class room is tiny, short and wide, several people had to workout in far corners, because it was very crowded. After the class, I asked the front desk what made this club Signature, because compared to Clinton, it looks way worse. She wasn't quite sure in her answer, said something about amenities, but couldn't name anything that this location has and Clinton doesn't. Then she said they focus on older clients and their equipment isn't crowded and classes aren't full. I went on weekday noon. I didn't see the general workout area, but the group class was extremely crowded, because of the small room size. So, they charge more than double the monthly fees, because rich people live around and they don't mind paying. I think the Alexandria location is nicer and Clinton is waaaay better.

I always enjoy my workouts here; I workout with my husband who is a trainer/in the fitness industry and it has everything we need. We mostly use the free weights and machines, and have not used the classes yet. But it's always clean, I find it pleasantly warm (especially when Old Town likes to put on it's best 'Arctic tundra' act!), and I really enjoy the front desk staff. They always greet us with a smile and pleasantry, and it's a nice way to start and finish a workout!

Have been going here for about a year, it’s a typical gym, with decent variety of cardio and weightlifting equipment. Guest passes are not included in membership and to bring a guest costs $30 for the day, which feels pretty scammy. Only gym I’ve been to that not only does not include guest passes, but charges an egregious amount. If not for that ridiculous policy i’d rate this place higher.

Onelife Fitness in Alexandria, Virginia is an outstanding fitness center that exceeds expectations. The welcoming staff, impeccable cleanliness, and availability of exceptional trainers make every visit a delight. The spacious and well-maintained locker room adds convenience, while the well-designed equipment ensures a stress-free workout. Though the upstairs bathroom could use some improvement, Onelife Fitness remains an great choice for an exceptional fitness experience. In addition to the top-notch gym facilities, Onelife Fitness also offers a variety of group fitness classes including yoga, HIIT, and strength training. These classes provide a fun and motivating environment to work out alongside fellow members and push yourself to new levels of fitness. My only wish is that they had an elliptical glider.

Ever since that I had moved back to the area a few weeks ago, I have been coming to this gym. It's quite expansive with three levels of space for people to workout. My best guess is that the have around 30 treadmills, and an great number of other cardio type equipment. The location is ideal for me, and I also like the hours that they are open. I work really hard to get here every other day at right around 5:30am. I think weekends they open slightly later. For me it's always best to get the workout completed first thing in the morning, because later on in the day or after work, there wouldn't be a chance for me to workout. My workout always starts out with a 20 minute run followed by a small break. After that I head on over to the incline bench to do 4 sets of 14 presses. Then I spend some time working the biceps, and shoulders. Finally I will always pass time with their abdominal machine. My whole routine lasts for less than one hour, and it's enough for me at this stage. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone!

Onelife Fitness Old Town (formerly Sports & Health) is the kind of place that will get you addicted to working out.

THE FACILITIES - This gym has ample male and female changing rooms with bathrooms and showers, together with number-coded cabinets where you can safely keep your belongings while exercising. The main equipment level has all-round windows with one side giving an awesome vista of the Potomac river. Equipment include free-weights, machines for the whole body, rubber bands, mats, treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes--all in sufficient number for there never to be a wait time. This level also includes ample carpeted space for stretching and mat-work. One level below there are hardwood-flored, mirrored studio rooms dedicated to such group classes as Pilates, Body-Pump and more. The ground floor has the aforementioned changing rooms, as well as the reception and a well-stocked vending area with protein drinks and other goodies. All spaces are kept spotless by round the clock cleaning staff.

THE CLASSES - One of my favorite things about this gym is the variety of classes they offer--both in terms of types and of schedule. Classes include Body-Pump, yoga, Pilates, body-combat, dance, cycling, core, zumba and more. Class times run from early morning to late afternoon, so regardless of one's schedule it's easy to find a convenient slot. Teachers--I have experience with a variety of them--are unfailingly nice and energetic. All classes (as of this writing) are offered at no surcharge.

PERSONAL TRAINING - Even with all the positives I have just mentioned, the highlight for me would have to be the personal training offered. I am signed up for one 1/2hr weekly session and after a year I have never been stronger and fitter. The space here is not sufficient for me to extol all the many virtues of my amazing personal trainer, but suffice it to say that I look forward to my session as a challenging and fun weekly highlight. The other trainers that I have seen also seem motivating, energetic, caring, and highly competent. There is a surcharge for this option, but to me it's absolutely worth it.

OTHER - As others have mentioned, the gym has an adjacent parking lot, and will validate. Free parking on the street is also available and the rare times that I drive there (I live at walking distance) I have never failed to find a spot. Bear in mind, though, it is on the North edge of Old Town Alexandria, so streets are occasionally full. Communication is great, with a phone app that lets you register for classes, and emails keeping you up to speed with what's happening at the gym, as well as sending you reminders about your schedule. Lastly, membership prices are comparable to other local gyms like the YMCA.

BOTTOM LINE - I couldn't be more satisfied. Good job. I never fail to be greeted with a smile and a courteous word, and attending Onelife Fitness Old Town has become a highlight of my (almost) daily routine.

5 stars for the trainers, instructors, and (most) staff. They’ve always been great, informative, and motivating, and I'm certain are all underpaid.

I was a faithful member for nearly 8 years and boldly returned during Covid shortly after facilities reopened during June 2020, but feel like things went drastically downhill. I would sometimes go during empty, off-peak hours (like 2-3pm on a Friday) to use the OneLife Anywhere app in the studios by myself, I was repeatedly told to use headphones instead of my own audio - the audio from my ipad was lower than the background music played upstairs. It was absurd - not everyone has expensive airpods and can workout with a cord flying around - I was using the company’s app and facilities as a paying member, when no one was around.

Communication has also gone sour - class changes, and most importantly things like the air conditioning being out for over a week (IN THE SUMMER) is unacceptable. No messaging sent out - you just realize upon arrival that the gym floor felt like, and smelled like worn, gym clothes were sitting in someone’s car parked in the sun for a month. Yes they said we could use other facilities, but how about a quick email update to members? Instead of finding out, repeatedly, only when we got there? The AC going out is not a new thing, but for this long, without any communication... that's not cool.

I feel awful for the trainers and staff that had to work in those conditions, and don’t know why the AC was out for so long - but mailing an update to members is not unreasonable.

I used to love coming here, and have even made a few friends at the gym - but for the rates we pay at OTS&H (which is more than double gyms in the same family) I feel it's not worth it.

So I “downgraded” to OneLife, for less than half the monthly fee (but regular AC)

I will hope to update this review once Covid has cleared, as the low rating applies exclusively to Sport and Health's complete lack of enforcement for Virginia's current pandemic-related safety requirements (mask wearing while inside buildings and not actively exercising, and social distancing). My husband and I have been members since 2007, and have really enjoyed the excellent equipment, friendly staff, and generally non-crowded environment that has made working out a pleasure. Based on our experience over the past months, however, we finally decided to freeze our membership. Fellow gym members walk all over the workout and common areas without wearing face coverings. They sit on equipment--without wearing face coverings--for extended periods of time (on numerous occasions I would complete 2 sets on another machine and individuals would still be there typing novels or whatever on their phones). This would prevent me from using certain machines, cutting into my ability to get the most out of my membership. I would attempt to stay away from people but they'd find the need to use a machine that was right next to mine, within 6', when literally everything else in the area was free. We reported these instances to staff as they piled up, trying to just take care of ourselves and stay away from people who were violating the rules. Nothing was ever done. In fact, the last time I was there, I saw the manager walk right by a no-face-covering member without saying anything. After seeing that, and many attempts to keep ourselves away from others, we decided it's not possible to maintain a reasonably low risk level in this gym.

Don’t even waste your time. Commit to this facility once, and you will never be able to get out of it. Their cancellation policies are really weird. Also if you think the management can help you? No they can’t, they could care less. The last person to talk to is Tomoko. She has proved many times on how incompetent she is.
However, the only positive thing about this gym is some of its instructors, while the majority of others aren’t.
I’m incredibly disappointed and I really hope I can get out of it sooner than later. There are better clubs out there.

I was seriously considering joining this gym, but Marty was very condescending when I asked what the membership cost was. He asked what gym I used to belong to and then proceeded to tell me that it's probably not what I'm looking for. He assumed I couldn't afford it and told me it's $250 plus $80/mo. The whole conversation was short and curt. I told him that I was insulted of how he addressed me. At first, he responded with I didn't say that. And when I repeated what he said, he reluctantly and superficially apologized. Then asked coldly if I wanted to come and see it. I told him I've been inside that gym before as I had lived in OT for over 20 years and have friends that go there. Too bad they have a guy like him to represent that company because I actually kinda like that gym. He even assumed I didn't live in the area and said that that in itself would not be beneficial. I actually live down the street. Let me put it this way, he did everything right to discourage me from joining. They should replace him with a friendlier person and maybe, their membership would increase and do better.

Full disclosure - I am a group ex instructor at OTSH, however, my review is specifically about Kids Club and has nothing to do with my employment. Tony, who is at Kids Club on MWF and Sunday, is one of the greatest assets that OTSH has. It's a nice perk when clubs offer free child care but Tony is above and beyond what you would hope for while you take a class or go workout upstairs. He is patient, kind, fun, energetic, and honestly just a baby whisperer. A big shout out to Tony for being an incredible part of the gym.

You won't find a place as friendly and accommodating as this. Spotless facilities from top to bottom and knowledgeable staff that cater to everyone's individual experience. Tons of equipment means you never have to wait for a machine or bench to open up. Get your money's worth and go here to get them gains!

Yoga yoga yoga. And a a whole lot more. Too many great instructors to mention but Jess, Katy, Amanda, and this guy named Chuck, all so great. Plus sooo many other classes. And connected with Serenity Day Spa where amazing massage therapists like Trace Berg are available in the same building.

Every employee at this gym is pleasant, willing to help and is always smiling. That goes for the Kids Club room as well, where they often do their best to keep the tv OFF (hurray from all of the parents out there)!

The entire facility is kept extremely clean and always feels updated. Windows surround you on both workout floors; it's a very uplifting space and you probably won't find another gym filled with as much light. Although the lounge could benefit from more comfortable (less fluorescent) lighting, there is plenty of space there to wind down after a workout with coffee or tea, which they provide.

In my experience, if there any concerns, just talk to one of the two Sarahs in management and they'll do everything possible to make your experience better.

The staff are beyond inspiring from the time I walk in until the time I walk out. They focus on the goals of their members and take the necessary steps to ensure positive results. Membership seems to follow up more often then none which motivates me even more. If i could give a thousand and one stars I'd still wish to give more. Thumbs up #TeamOldTown

Friendly staff, clean facilities with a great variety of classes and top-notch trainers -- including, but not limited to --Evie, Katy, Meghan, Cindy, and Blue w/TNT. My only complaint (minor complaint, so I guess my rating should be 4.5) is that the weights are sometimes left on the equipment by the previous member. Although I would like to think I could squat 200 pounds, I know it would not be wise (or pretty) so I end up having to put away Superman's weights. Like I said, it's a minor complaint.

I'm absolutely astounded by the negative reviews here as they simply do not mirror anything about my experiences with this gym.

I started working out here in 2011 after suffering through a miserable back injury from a bicycling accident. I was weakened, 25 pounds overweight, out of shape, and knew that I had a long road to recovering my health ahead of me and I was feeling overwhelmed by the size of the task ahead of me.

Fortunately fate was on my side and this gym happened to be nearly across the street from my office and they gave me a free workout with a personal trainer as part of the signup deal. I was nervous about re-injuring my back and was frank with my trainer Jamaal about that, but also how I was feeling about myself and what I wanted to accomplish.

My goal was to get back to a healthy weight, and to learn to workout in such a way as to just take care of my body. I had no aim to become a bodybuilder at 44 years old; I just wanted to learn to take care of myself physically. He listened, and created a high intensity workout for me that we would go through on Mondays and I would repeat on my own two more days during the week. We developed a warm friendship and that helped motivate me to push myself when we worked out because I trusted him and believed in what we were doing.

So that workout addressed both the need for aerobic exercise and strength training. The next area for me to address was my diet, which this gym also helped with by providing access to Diet To Go. That program was exactly what I needed; structured, nutritious, prepared meals that I could pick up at the gym, take home with me and enjoy.

The weight poured off me, I went from 210 to 185 in just a few months. I have come to somewhat enjoy exercise and have made it a way of life. I may never love it, but have learned that it’s simply a necessary ritual that allows me to enjoy the benefits of good health. Though I’m not in love with working out, this gym has helped me stick with it. And they do so by providing a clean, spacious, well-equipped facility that also happens to be in superb location.

But most importantly the staff makes me feel connected to a community there. I have barely a foot in the door before I am greeting by name by smiling, friendly faces of people enjoying themselves at work. I was away for 2 years and was glad to see that nearly every staff member there was someone who had been there back when I first joined in 2011. That speaks volumes about a place of business, and I know from experience that I can ask any of the trainers for advice on technique or anything else I need help with. It’s first rate facility and the membership is well worth it. I’ll be coming back as long as things remain as they are.

This gym is awful. Totally outdated; equipment isn't maintained. The clientele skews older, which is fine, but it can lead to a very demotivating environment. Personal Trainers are rude- they completely take over the free workout space and don't give members who aren't with trainers space to workout alongside them. Completely overpriced for what you get.

To be honest this facility is TRULY A HIDDEN GEM!! Compared to most gyms which may be at a lower price point this Sport & Health offers all the BANG FOR YOUR BUCK and money is not wasted at all. The service from Colleen Lemorie (Sales Consultant) was nothing pushy but eye opening knowing that just for a little extra I would save more in the long run but also make sure I would save my body and get the results I aspire for with her team. The Persoanl Trainers truly take note of what your goals are and make sure you achieve them, overall the whole staff there is one big family that truly cares for clients and making sure they get the service they need but also attaing there goals that much easier. I will recommend everyone I know to come to the Old Town Sport & Health and see the wonders they work.

After 2.5 years of membership, I've grown incredibly disappointed with this gym. For starters, their monthly premiums are outrageous. I have found a cheaper rate (literally half the price!) at a nearby gym. I called their member services hotline to negotiate a better rate so that they might not lose my membership to another gym. But, alas, they could only offer me a $5 reduction in dues. A joke! Secondly, this gym opens at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays which is entirely too late for many Washingtonians. Even at 5:15 a.m. open time would buy those few extra, precious minutes in the morning. Furthermore, I had my keys with my membership card on it stolen and they will only replace for a hefty fee-- this ON TOP of exorbitant monthly dues. The LEAST they can do is replace my stinkin' card! They clearly do not value my business and I am out the door... (oh and don't even get my started on the broken equipment).

Their prices are FAR from competitive. Do NOT join.

At one point, I loved this club. I think its because I didn't know any better. I joined when we were still relatively new to the area and I couldn't bother shopping around. It was easy enough to get to, there were some good class choices, and the opening hours worked for me.

In the few months since I started, I realized I am overpaying for poor quality. Classes get canceled or start late regularly. The personal trainer was insulting and condescending before we even started training. I can handle tough love when we're actually working out, but what is the point of telling me I'm an amateur when it comes to fitness? There are an unnecessary number of hidden costs and fine print. If you lose your cheap plastic membership card, there's a charge (that is way more than the card actually costs). They boast about their overnight lockers, but there's a fee. All the extra commitment programs and some of the pilates programs also have extra charges. Just so you know, these are not really nominal fees. Reformer pilates cost the same as going to a pilates studio without a membership and paying for classes, so the gym membership didn't really provide any sort of discount on that front.

The "benefits" you get with your first month like meal planning are not good. The meal planning didn't work for awhile and when it did, it was a clunky program that was difficult to use and worse than free meal planning programs on the internet. The initial "training session" was 20 minutes of questions and hidden insults, 10 minutes of actual training and stretching, and 15 minutes of trying to sell me on a personal training package. I will not pay $60 for a session to get insulted by someone. I can insult myself for free.

The tipping point came with the change in hours. Seemingly without notice, they opened half an hour later every weekday and an hour later on weekends, without extending hours. So, they cut 4.5 hours of service for members without anything to offset the reduction in access. I notified them of my complaint and got the standard response (which some of you may have gotten on here). They also claimed that they didn't change any hours, but I had been under the previous schedule and they also listed the old hours on their Facebook page.

I did not break my contract early, but rode out the last couple months. It was very easy to not renew my membership. One of the few "great" points of this club. The reason I'm giving this 2 stars and not 1 is because there were several great group classes. Apart from the scheduling/timing of those classes, the substance was actually fun and a great workout.

I truly enjoy Old Town Sport and Health. I have been a member for a year now and I have never had an issue with staff, as a matter of fact, most of the time I don't have to scan in because they know who I am and do it for me. The facilities are well maintained and the mens locker room is top notch.
