Looks like I am not alone in having recurring issues with the studio manager, Bekah. I have enjoyed Orange Theory very much, but truly regret being a member at this studio. I have an injury that is preventing me from exercising, on the advice of my doctor and PT. Based on my contract with the studio, I should be able to pause or cancel my membership without being charged. Bekah has repeatedly failed to do this. When I call, the studio staff tell me they will address this with her ASAP, but I never get resolution.

I finally had to dispute the charges directly with my bank and cancel my credit card entirely so they can't charge me anymore, what a pain. If you want to try Orange Theory, do yourself a favor and sign up at the Bradlee shopping center studio. I have taken classes there too and always received much better service.

UPDATE: per response from studio manager: This was not a misunderstanding. I was charged well after the 30 day notice window. I was repeatedly told by your staff that I would get a refund for those charges, and I did not. I am familiar with the contract I signed; you all were in violation of it for continuing to charge me after the 30 day notice that I gave.

I’ve been a member st this studio for about 2 years, with a slight break in between due to a medical procedure. Overall, I enjoyed my time at this studio and the workouts were fine. At least this was the case when Allison was the studio manager.

For the past month, I’ve been contacting the studio on a weekly basis, at times, several times a week to try to cancel my membership. Everytime, I’m told that the new studio manager, Bekah, would handle it and this has yet to happen. I’ve left emails, voicemails, etc and have been consistently ignored. The lack of professionalism and subpar customer service exhibited by this studio is truly shocking. This isn’t the OTF that I know.

This morning, I saw that the studio charged my card for another month of membership despite them ignoring my request to cancel my membership since LAST MONTH. Bekah is clearly over her head and does not know how to run a studio. Like other reviewers, I will be disputing the charge and canceling my card to avoid future charges.

I signed up for a complementary newcomer class and days later was charged after I was told it would be complementary. The workout was unorganized and there were only a few people in attendance. It’s not as fun as it use to be.

I bought a $500 class pack at this location, and shortly thereafter, tore a tendon in my ankle - my doctor thinks it likely occurred after a particularly brutal OTF workout. Since then, I have been unable to return to exercise of this intensity, and my orthopedist says I should avoid high impact exercise like this going forward because of the potential for injury. Despite all of this, this location has kept my $500 and refuses to issue a refund, even though I didn't sign a contract and a have a verifiable medical issue.

Very poor business ethics - wouldn't recommend this location.

I enjoy this location of OTF- it’s convenient to my house and the coaches do a good job. All are super upbeat and friendly! Bathrooms and lobby are clean. Classes are easy to get into and there is a good amount of natural light in the studio. Putting my membership on hold was no problem. OTF, as a workout program, is fairly boring and repetitive, which is why I’ve cancelled my membership. However, I appreciate the treadmill element, which I would never do on my own.

You will be asked to buy a heart rate monitor. It is not necessary to work out, but it might be nice to see your name on the screen. I have an Apple Watch and just use that.

I paid $109 for 8 workouts/mo, and $159 for unlimited. You do need a long lead time to cancel, so plan accordingly.

I have been going to the OTF Potomac Yard for over two years now. The Studio Manager and the coaches are the absolute best!! Going into a gym right now can be somewhat daunting given COVID, but Bri and her team do a fantastic job keeping the place squeaky clean and clearly communicating the new procedures in place to keep all members safe! I have gone to many other OTF's in NOVA and by far PY is the best location! Coach Kerry is also the best Coach in the business!

Have been coming here for over a year - love the teachers and classes. I am VERY disappointed with billing issues during COVID times.

This is not in regard to quality of the classes but rather in regard to billing during COVID. I had unlimited membership and in March 2020 was billed for the month when 2-3 days later studio shutdown. I was promised that I would have this month when things reopened. In June 2020 when studio reopened, was given option to put membership on hold which I did, as a healthcare provider I did not think it was appropriate to be patient 0 at OTF for spreading COVID (as I have been caring for COVID patients). Fast forward to Sept 2020, I was billed again for my monthly fee without any acknowledgement or communication from the studio. The credit card that they had on file for me was lost so thankfully I was not charged. Here we are now in Nov 2020 and they are insisting that I pay for the missed charge and that the only way I can avoid this is by buying more classes. I am disappointed with how this has been handled.
1) Communication was lackluster and I never approved them to start charging me again
2) They did not honor their word of giving me an extra month from March 2020 when I had already paid
3) They are forcing me to buy something and backing me into a wall when I am doing what I feel is best in these unprecedented times.

I would love to give the coaches a 5 star review, they are awesome and your time in the studio with them is fantastic.

However, the studio manager and front desk team need some work. It seems a few people have had issues with canceling/corporate policy at this studio and I also ran into the same issue. Ultimately felt like my experience with the studio manager was unprofessional as a leader in a building. Refused to send over COVID policies from corporate because they are a franchise and it differs studio to studio, but wants to follow corporate policy for cancellation. In the midst of a pandemic I can assure you all studio's need to be following the same policies to avoid problems like this. I moved during Covid when the gym was closed, and let the studio manager know 45 days before the studio opened. Fast forward to September and she says they have called me once (in June not again since) and she would do me the cutesy of not charging me June, July, and August, and just September for my last 30 day cancellation per the pre covid policy. I am fully aware of the policy and also paid my march unlimited membership and then the studio closed 5-7 days after that was paid. I have not been back since-. Ultimately, the workout is great but as you'll find it is a miserable experience to cancel the membership. I'm more upset about how they are handling this during a pandemic. Pre-pandemic I would have been less irritated and clearly given my notice in April and paid May, attended classes and would have been done with this location. I myself was a Store Manager of a business for years, I know how this world works. You don't want a bad review, you want to make customers happy, it costs nothing to do these things. My cancellation does not hurt Bri's paycheck. However, the service from this team has cost OTF a member at any location moving forward. This is a boutique fitness studio, you pay top dollar for an experience and you should continue to receive top dollar interactions with everyone in the studio. I hope others do not run into any similar issues.

Coaches are awesome. Cancellation policy is annoying. Have to be in person to do it. But they haggle you to death to not cancel. Just let me cancel and stop wasting my time. Also, memberships don’t quite work across any locations. You can’t have work done on your trackers for instance, at another location, because it would come out of that locations bottom line. Understandable. It’s a franchise. Just burdens the customer in the end. “Corporate policy” is thrown around a lot here. OT as a whole is still cool and fun. Just needs work on their “corporate policies.”

The coaches at this gym are great. John is a great coach, in particular. I’ll start with that. The customer service is what needs work. Or maybe it’s the policies of this location -Potomac yard. I bought a heart rate monitor after being sold the kool aid about the importance of the “orange zone” and how these monitors keep track of the zones throughout your workout. Long story short, my monitor was highly inaccurate, fluctuated immensely in seconds (one second my HR is 121, the next 67, then back to 110) and I wasn’t satisfied. After a few workouts with these issues and the coaches suggesting I change placement on my arm or use some gel that helps it read better, I went to the front desk asking if I could exchange the monitor. The lady at the desk again suggested I change the placement. After explaining I have been changing the placement for days and it’s not helping, she just said, try lower on the arm. So the next workout I said something again. They again stated that the placement is usually the issue, but she did admit that when the arm is tense it doesn’t always get a good read, so usually it’s a problem on the rowers. So I asked if I could exchange it for a chest band, she said there are no exchanges or returns after it’s been worn. So this routine continued and I finally was able to speak to a manager (5th time complaining), who also had nothing to offer other than “we can readjust your numbers (age, height, weight) to help you get more splat points.” I explained that I want a monitor that accurately reads my heart rate, the monitor is a month old and I’ve been complaining about it since I bought it. She proceeds to tell me that they no longer sell that monitor but she was happy to show me other models available for *purchase*. No. I am not going to buy another $100+ HR monitor when you apparently have an absolutely ZERO return/exchange policy after use. Literally anywhere else allows returns/exchanges when something doesn’t work right or isn’t satisfactory. I cancelled my membership and i’m not going back.

I have been a member of OrangeTheory for a little over 2 years and I love Coach John - he always motivates me to push my limits and to keep pushing through to the end! I love that he helps out individuals in the class to ensure that our form is good and effective, so that we can see the maximum benefit of our workouts and movements. He also has provided great information and resources for cleaning up my eating and improving my diet and meal choices! I also absolutely love the OTF Potomac Yard front desk staff! Always super friendly and super awesome! Marina is great!

Did my first class and enjoyed it. The only complaint is that my thresholds are different than their "one size fits all" concept of the Orange Theory (Zone 4). You should be able to provide your own if you have established this. For people that work out a lot, this may be aggravating.

I have never regretted going to an OrangeTheory class. I love that when I walk in the door, my worries and stress from the day leave and I can focus on myself. The coaches and staff are always encouraging and supportive, so even when I don't think I can or want to, I always push myself a little harder to finish the workout strong. I love OTF!

Will try and scam you out of money. I moved and was not able to make it in to the studio before I left to cancel. They stated “because I hadn’t filled out the cancellation form, I was responsible for my monthly membership” granted I am 9 months pregnant and live 4 HOURS AWAY so how on earth am I going to make it in to fill out the stupid form? They just want your money and will do anything to get it

I bought a pack of 10 workouts. I asked them how many I had left and they said "2". So I went ahead and scheduled another workout. Then they told me "oops, we made a mistake, you had none left. Now you have to pay us." Seriously? They are admitting it was their mistake but they want me to pay for THEIR MISTAKE? Huh?

I’m glad that OrangeTheory opened up in this area. The classes are fun and go by quickly. I have taken classes with Kaitlin, John, Mike, Brandon, Tamu and Jess...all are great instructors; although, I have the highest splats in Tamu’s class.
The only downside can be parking. It can be difficult to find a spot sometimes.
