Great route setting in the massive bouldering section with huge variety of wall angles. I would go more often if I spent more time in Richmond because the slab section is awesome.

This place has gone dramatically downhill in the last few years. They pretty noticeably focus on bouldering over sport climbing, you'll see routes that got bolted 6+ months ago. They give priority to their misbehaved and exceptionally rude climbing team. Staff does not intervene when members are being reckless and dangerous. They've had a very large manager turnover there, wonder why... Music is never playing so all you hear is climbing team children screeching. Their exercise area is laughably sparse so good luck working out during PEAK hours, you have to take a 5 minute walk just to use the restroom. There's just far too many negatives for the almost $100/month membership fee. Such a shame, this place used to be fun.

We recently visited Peak Experiences for a birthday party and decided to check out the rock climbing area. My 11-year-old son has always wanted to try climbing, and we were so impressed with the facility and staff!
We signed him up for a beginner session with a guide and gear rental. His guide, Josh, was absolutely fantastic! He was so patient and encouraging, and really took the time to teach my son the basics and help him feel comfortable.
On his first few climbs, my son was a little hesitant, but by the third and fourth runs, he made it all the way to the top! It was such a joy to watch. The other climbers were so supportive, cheering him on along with us and Josh. It was really special to see that sense of community and encouragement.
This experience was more than just about climbing. It was about building confidence, overcoming challenges, and feeling a sense of accomplishment. We saw firsthand how this activity can foster physical strength and mental resilience.
We can't thank Josh enough for his kindness and dedication. He went above and beyond to make sure my son had a positive experience.
The entire facility was top-notch, and the staff were all incredibly welcoming and accommodating to our family, even though we were complete newbies to the climbing world.
We highly recommend Peak Experiences to anyone looking for a fun, challenging, and supportive environment to try rock climbing. We'll definitely be back!

Cool climbing gym with inventive routes on both top rope and boulders. Never had any issues with the staff, theyβve been nice and helpful every time Iβve gone.
I appreciate their approach to climbing education as well; I took their belay class a while back and instead of a quick run-down like Iβve seen with some other gyms, they really make sure you know your stuff with a proper class and give you a different-day test. I think this increases safely and retention so Iβm pleased with that.
If you need to use the bathroom youβll have to go to the literal other side of the sports complex building, so get the directions at the start in case you have to run over there! And donβt bring your climbing shoes to the bathroom, thatβs just gross.
The climbing shop is a nice addition with a small selection of gear, books, and some nicely designed Peak tees. I like to browse around in there occasionally. They also have a generous selection of snacks at the front so you can fuel up mid-climbing and climb some more.

Nice gym with good boulders. A little steep for a day pass if you're only here to boulder. Also the bathrooms are a mile away from the actual gym (have to exit and walk down 3 different hallwas) and are a little dark/dingy. Plenty of parking, friendly staff, and most importantly - to me - good quality problems that you can spend a couple hours on. I don't like the color/circuit grading (prefer V scale) but the climbs themselves are good.

As a plus sized person, I was very nervous going there for the first time. I signed up for the sampler lesson because I went by myself. The employees are great and it seems like a great supportive community. I am definitely going back!!!

Iβve never been to a climbing gym (or climbing at all) so it was a little intimidating walking in. That changed immediately though, the staff are super friendly and welcoming. They got me set up and went over some information and good starting points and checked in on me throughout my session to see how I was doing and offer advice. They were fantastic! The facility is large, clean and comfortable with plenty of routes to try. The other climbers were really cool too, great community. The fitness equipment is great quality too, I got in my leg workout before leaving.

A bouldering dream! Peak offers tons of options from bouldering, top rope, auto-belay, trad and fitness.
There's a plethora of classes, staff willing to teach and community-based programs like adaptive climbing and VΓ€sen Brewing climb nights! It's also a great place to volunteer to help with the adaptive programs.
The community here is awesome, and you're always being encouraged by strangers around you and making new friends! They offer a decent selection of snackies, drinks and some retail.

Super cheap, provide the shoes, gear, and chalk for auto belays. Great options, really kind calm people and atmosphere. Very welcoming! They got groups of people that meet for all kinds of activities. Bouldering as well and non-auto belays (I am a beginner so idk the technical terms) anyway as I said I just started and they make it real easy to make it a frequent hobby immediately. Talked to a few regulars and they also just kinda kept coming so hopefully I keep it up! Really good work out and exercises you mentally and emotionally in an exciting way. Try it out!!

Peak Experiences is fantastic! I absolutely love the quirky, avant-garde vibe of the place. There's a manager there who always plays music that just hits the spot, enhancing the climbing experience every time. Plus, their upbeat and friendly demeanor is truly infectious! I think their name might have been Halle (if memory serves)βjust one shining example of the incredible staff at Peak Experiences. Everyone there contributes to setting a high standard for what a climbing gym's staff and community should embody. Always an absolute pleasure to visit!

We had a great time at Peak Adventures this week. Driving through town on Spring Break, of all the things our family of four could do in Richmond, we chose to go climbing and we were not disappointed. Wesley was a really good guide for us as we all purchased the Peak Sampler. This allowed each of us to get three climb routes in. Wesley did great educating and motivating us with particular patience and attention for our 7 & 9 year old boys. It is a nice gym with good customer service. Add this one to the short list of must do in VA.

I love to go here with my schoolβs outdoor program. There are 2 bouldering structures, auto belays, lead climbing, top rope, and a great gym area. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you are a beginner, try the β3 Peaksβ trial to climb 3 full walls and you can stay after to try bouldering. I highly recommend this place over its RVA competition, Triangle Rock Club. Overall, a great experience for those who love climbing and those who want to try it out.

Love this place. Everything from the bouldering to top-rope to staff is great! Clean facility with high safety standards (other than for their team kids).
My biggest complaint is that the gym can be absolutely stuffed to the gills with children from various teams and clubs. Their team kids will hog walls/routes for a long time while being some of the least safe and least considerate people I've met. An otherwise-excellent gym...good luck finding routes on weekdays.

Went here for a day pass with a friend to check out Peak since we were in the area. Coming from Northern Virginia (Sportrock), it was nice to see visit another gym outside of the area.
The grading system here is pretty fair. Found most of the grades to be very accurate to the V scale that they use. They have plenty of routes on Top Rope and Bouldering for all skill levels, and also have a long comp wall as well! With a variety of holds on slab, caves and overhang, you can definitely gets some miles in at this gym. some of the walls here are kind of high from what I'm used too, so it was a little scary getting to the top.
The gym is also clean and very spacious. Plenty of walls to go around so peak hours shouldn't be so bad. I haven't experienced it since I'm not from the area, but the space is huge.
Overall, a very nice gym. Clean, spacious and accurate grades. Definitely recommend this climbing gym!

I started bouldering for a month now by going to our first rock climbing gym at Peak. We usually go to the one at Midlo but the Richmond one is huge! The bouldering walls at Richmond is taller than Midlo so it can be scary at first. But we learned to down climb as much as we can so itβs not so scary anymore. They also have a nice upstairs area where you can relax and chill and overlook the rock climbing areas. The staff are nice and friendly. The people there are friendly enough to chat and help you out too. Very nice gym.

So, a relative tossed us a gift card to Peak Experiences, and OMG, what a game-changer! We are straight-up hooked now. The sheer number of routes is mind-blowing, from super chill climbs to those that really get the adrenaline pumping. Honestly, we've accidentally burned an entire day there more times than I can count.
The crew there? Top-notch! Super down-to-earth and always up for a chat or some advice. If you're thinking about giving climbing a go or you're already a wall-scaling pro, you've gotta check this place out. That gift card turned out to be the gateway to our new fave hangout. Seriously, get over to Peak Experiences and see what the hype is about!

Went here with a group for a birthday- we did not do the birthday package because we wanted to do the high walls (mostly older kids / young adults, 2 littles)... It was a blast. I believe the front desk guy name is Brian? Or well, the Asian looking kid, he was great. Helped alot. Made our time there very fun. Will definitely come back another day. Great rock climbing experience. Great belayer/ belaying training. High class rock climbing facilities. Clean restrooms, spacious dressing rooms, cubbies for belongings, free climbing areas. Harness and shoes provided. All day passes and access to the hole gym with exercise equipment and spa area. About 20 dollars per person. 12 dollars per kid. 5 dollars for belaying training and certification. Gym memberships available for frequent visitors.

This is a great climbing gym, and the inclusive, welcoming nature of the staff and owners shines through. Plenty of Autobelays and varieties of wall climbing routes. This is the best gym I've ever seen for bouldering. My only criticism would be that the routes could be updated a bit more frequently. But as a relatively new member (4ish months) I'm really happy with the gym so far and glad I made the switch to Peak. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the outdoor "real" rock climbing courses once it warms up.

I'm from NOVA but go down to Peak once a month. The first time you go it can be a bit confusing, it's not labeled very well and my GPS didn't take me exactly to the right spot. It's inside the sports complex.
I always have fun here! The community is super nice and welcoming, I always find people to chat with even if I'm there climbing alone. The flat walls in the back/side of the gym are set with fun & creative comp-style problems. The women's bouldering nights (for the last two months) have been a blast!
They have a great snack selection (including ice cream), and they have some fun merch and stickers and such. Staff has been helpful any time I've needed anything.
The bouldering area is a decent size but it is a bummer that they shut half of the bouldering area down for an entire week to set. It's pretty uncommon; most gyms seem to do one wall at a time that opens the same day. Last week when I went to Peak for the first time in a month, half of the gym was roped off/closed and the other half was old problems from the last time I was there, so there was nothing new to climb. Maybe I'll call ahead next time to check.
One improvement that could be made is it's a bit dark in certain areas. Specifically the bouldering cave area -- it can be hard to see the colors of holds under there or what grade they are.

Large gym, but overall disappointed in what I've gotten for the price here.
Pros: Lots of surface, tall walls, both bouldering and rope sections, nice weights area, hangboard/campus setup, gymnastic setting (not a pro for me but I know some people differ)
Cons: Very infrequent setting. Also no order to the setting. They do half the boulders at once after 2 months instead of a section at a time more frequently. Means half the gym is always packed too.
The setting isn't very good, at least orange (V4-V6) and below. Also, very very soft grading but that's common without good outdoor stuff nearby. It's 100% gym climbs and each set tends to have several problems with similar moves (I.e. a mantle on half the problems). My biggest factor, this gym IS NOT a good training area to climb outside. It's all muscle and gymnastics with no technique required.
The spray wall isn't big enough or nice enough to make up for this. I think adding a systems board may satisfy me but surprisingly they don't have one. No wood holds at all and many of the holds are pretty rough on skin, especially since they haven't really set crimpy problems below V6 since I've been here.
The community is pretty unfriendly too. I've watched so many people brush climbs and then get cut off as they chalk up so someone else gets the fresh holds. About half the people are respectful and half are in their own world with no regard for others. How many people walk under climbers before the gym gets better at teaching newbies? Is it really going to take someone getting hurt?
I've found ways to get value out of it and it's not all bad but for what I'm paying this ain't it. Haven't been to triangle rock club, maybe Peak is just Richmond's best.

Entrance is slightly confusing because it is inside of the sports complex, there are some signs so look out for them. Got invited to Peak for a friends birthday and I must say, what a thrill! Iβve never been bouldering before or even heard of it till yesterday. I was only nervous at first to even show upπ
Iβve had hip and toe surgery, with one of my feet still needing work done so I just knew I wouldnβt make it to the top.
After getting over the self-doubt and showing up, I was able to climb to the top of at least 3 paths! I was so proud of not only myself but everyone else in there. Iβve never seen anything like this before, it takes real commitment. The community of boulders was very friendly and helpful.
The staff was very supportive as well! At first I had trouble doing one I really wanted to complete, but after someone stepped in to spot me and give me a tip on how to place my foot, I was able to get up there!
10/10 and would def come back!! π§ββοΈthis place also has rock climbing and is connected to a sports center/gym.

I havenβt tried any of the courses or classes, but I like that they have them and there are options where they will help you develop your skills.

Great bouldering section. Free weights is minimalistic but has everything you need. The lack of locker rooms/changing room really bothers me but I think I'm the only one

Very nice gym, with a nice bouldering and top rope area, however that the bathroom/ locker room is shared with the facility is kind of embarrassing. Taking off a star for the bathroom might sound harsh, but anyone whose been here would likely understand.

Great gym! It has the best bouldering area of all Richmond gyms. There is auto-belay, lead, and top-rope. Also, there is a barbell section. The grades can be a bit soft.

I travel a lot and get to judge several gyms. Peak experiences was 5 out of 5 stars. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. They quickly got my partner and I through a belay test and onto climbing. We found the route setting above par competing with top gyms in the nation. The bouldering scale is a bit funky but again the route setting was phenomenal. Would highly recommend to experts and beginners alike.

We dropped into this gym on New Yearβs Eve while visiting and had a great time. The staff was short staffed but was accommodating. The staff ran a great belay test that was relevant and informative of their expectations. The route setting was great; better than other gyms we have visited. The gym space is nice but facilities/bathroom are shared with the local soccer complex and are old and not well maintained. Overall a great pace to drop in and would visit again when in the Richmond area.

Visiting this rock climbing gym for the first time in several years was daunting at first to say the least. Luckily, the staff here were super friendly and managed to quickly and easily set me up to start rock climbing within a few minutes. All I had to do to get started rock climbing was rewatch a safety video and sign a liability waiver (which is standard for all rock climbing gyms). I highly recommend this rock climbing gym if youβre into the sport or if youβre trying to spice up your life by being more active.

Peak has the best setting I've ever climbed. Fantastic gym. They don't have a an LED board which is bummer considering this is kinda standard at most gyms these days.

Great routes and expansive gym, impressive weight lifting area and training options. Having been a climber for the past eight years and being from out of town with sporadic visits to Richmond gyms, it was odd to see a six month expiration on belay certification. If they had a climbing team to aspire to, or any workshops, it was not advertised or apparent with my visit.

Awesome rock climbing community here , full of talented and strong humans who hang out and solve routes together and grow together! Has a small weight lifting area , hang boards for your grip strength , and talented route makers who alter some walls every now and again to have some new challenges!! This place will definitely better your physical and mental wellbeing
