After that, all the children from hayfield come over and socialize, half working out half on their phones and not letting you get into the equipment. The location by Hayfield Secondary is great. While it seems to always be pretty busy, there are enough machines that you don't really have to wait for the one you want. I have used Planet Fitness in another state and here in Virginia. What I enjoy so much about this location is the cleanliness. You actively see the employees cleaning the equipment. And a very good amount of the members cleaning up after themselves. It looks and smells clean in there. It has a good range of equipment. You see the machines being kept up. If one is broken it is usually back up and running quickly. The parking lot feels safe. It's a good location. I really have no complaints.

This is a very fine and well operated gym. The equipment works optimally and is maintained daily and the facility is very clean. Planet Fitness supplies paper towels and disinfectant and I see all gym participants use these products. The staff is attentive and pleasant. The only really aggravating thing is that the gym closes radically early on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - the best times to exercises for some.

The only problem is the gym closes way too early on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday nights the gym closes at 9 PM - the time I have to begin exercise. Saturday and Sunday closing is even worse; the gym closes at 7 PM. These truncated hours are a real slap in the face 3 out of 7 days during the week.

Brutally honest review after several years of coming here: The machines in general, including in the premium Black Card area, are significantly older and more worn down than other planet fitness in NoVA. Some have sharp metal edges under the thin amount of padding that remains . There are many high schoolers in groups hanging out in the gym during peak afternoon hours. TVs are not allowed to change channels for ANY reason due to the infinite wisdom of "management policy." Significant turnover of staff. Bathroom/locker room sometimes floods. Management does not actually address issues brought up to them. Two stars instead of one because of low price and not using the lunk alarm.

I come every day after work, there's lots of open space and it's very clean. There's plenty of equipment to use and I never feel intimidated by my lack of knowledge of them. Everything seems fine to me. Only lately a person who is personal training because it occupies the entire space of "functional training" and does not give space to go do some of their training. One of the bosses that’s name Mo he is the black gentlemen I walked in with my membership, signed and scanned with my phone. Then he asked for my name and my ID. I quickly asked him for his badge number ticking like he was a cop and then he came around and asked for my ID again I have never heard of a gym asking for ID after you already signed in into your membership he then told me that this is his store and use ugly language and told me he was gonna beat me up out of the If I don’t get out, I have it all on recording. Then he went ahead and push me and then I asked one of the other workers to help me understand what’s going on. not to put them involved and she was a younger lady working there as well very unprofessional and this guy shouldn’t be working at this planet fitness gym. I also found out that they got multiple complaints from the same manager after that he told me because I am a white little boy. very racist, gym and I would not recommend going to just planet fitness on hayfield ever again

Nice gym and plenty of workout equipment, although there are some hiccups. I've been noticing some of the treadmills don't work properly like the incline was really high when it said it was 0 but they have plenty of them. Or a workout machine was out of service. While there's like 2 of everything, it was noticeable when trying to use the chest press and one is out, or the one pectoral fly machine, and while it wasn't too busy when I went, it was in constant use by others. Overall a great gym and staff are very friendly as well.

I have been going to the planet fitness in Alexandria and west Springfield for the past six plus years. I moved and switched to this Hayfield location and have been VERY disappointed and unimpressed by the staff. From the first day there I was treated rudely and disrespectfully by a young white kid who works there. I always greeted this guy with a hello and a smile. He just looks at me stone faced and doesn’t give me the courtesy of a response. He doesn’t say anything when I’m leaving either, just ignores me and looks at his phone. Anyway, that I can ignore altogether all the other gyms have friendly staff. Next is the size of the place. It’s the smallest one I have been to and there are usually a lot of people there and one lady trains people EVERY SINGLE DAY and takes up a lot of room. No one says anything even though it’s against the rules. Then there is the issue of when they are open. All the others are 24/7. This place is 24/5 and opens at 7 am on weekdays which really sucks because I have to wait and it takes me out of my rhythm. Had I known this I would have kept driving the extra 10 minutes to go to the west Springfield location which is 24/7 like all the others. I constantly find trash and gum in the bathroom sinks and toilets. They remain there for a week plus sometimes. No one cleans it. The night staff is terrible too. I know they don’t have anything to do but on THREE separate occasions they were standing outside smoking cigarettes. One time the guy stood there smoking at the back door with the door open and I could smell the cigarette while on the machine and it really bothered me. I said something and he rolled his eyes and looked annoyed and said he was on his break and next time he’d go outside even though it was cold. Just unprofessional behavior.

I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT!

Not being open 24/7 is indicative of the lackluster behavior of this operation!

We have enjoyed our membership, the equipment provided is diverse and in great condition but lately the staff has become lethargic. In the early morning, some of sit on the couch meant for customers waiting for spa equipment and pay little attention to members. No one enjoys the late shift but the optics are not good. We also have concerns with the cleanliness of the spa equipment. It doesn’t seem like there is any cleaning between uses. If member cleaning is the only method, then more cleaning supplies need to be provided. A spray and paper towels is not enough.

I love planet fitness on telegraph Road. A couple years ago I belong to the planet fitness on Huntington and it wasn’t as clean and not as bad. I prefer to go to the gym later in the evening and there’s nobody there. I also love that if you get the black card membership you get a 10 minute mat daddy chair massage for free. You just sign up after your work out on a computer at the front desk and the chair is unbelievable. It reclines all the way back and massage your entire body. The people at the front desk at this gym are super kind and friendly. I also like that I don’t have a personal trainer coming up to me every couple seconds asking me questions or giving me tips. I like my privacy at a gym so I can work by myself and I get it here!

I’ve reported multiple time the treadmills are not balanced properly and one rowing machine is broken (leaking water). It has been 4 + months and the reported issues are still not fixed. Also this location doesn’t have enough cleaning stations (recommend 3 more for the workout room area). The cleaning paper towels are out of stock and spray bottles broken.

It is super frustrating that despite the many signs saying “no personal training” that a woman is allowed to run a training business out of this club. She is not wearing PF gear so I assume she is a private trainer. She has multiple clients every week day morning from 9am-12, and they monopolize the machines and equipment in the back corner. I am surprised PF would allow someone to profit off of their facility.
A week later: no response from the club, and woman is still running her training business. Why is this allowed to take place?

TONS of cardio equipment and with the app (which you need to sign in anyway) you can check to see how crowded it is in advance! So helpful! My only gripe is that PF doesn't do organized group classes like barre or yoga, but there is so much equipment, weights, etc to use that you don't have an excuse to not get your workout in! 👍
