I have NEVER seen a gym with such a shady and unclear policy. Once you join, there’s NO way to cancel through the app, you’re forced to either go in person or waste time calling. We tried to cancel after just one month, but they had ALREADY charged us for the second month with no refund, no “cancel anytime” option, nothing. Once they take your money, it’s gone. On top of that, they sneak in a $49 annual fee, which feels like nothing but a scam.

Yes, the environment was fine, but the way they operate is disgusting, they’re nothing more than a money trap, squeezing every dollar out of members however they can. Absolutely unhelpful, frustrating, and downright deceitful.

Walking into this Planet Fitness feels like stepping into my happy place, I seriously can’t say enough good things about this location. From the moment you walk through the doors, the energy is welcoming, the space is spotless, and the staff? Absolutely phenomenal. They’re not just helpful, they’re friendly, warm, and genuinely seem to care about every person who walks in. Whether you’re a first-time gym-goer or a fitness regular, they make you feel seen and supported. The equipment is always clean, well-maintained, and available, even during peak hours, which is a huge deal. I’ve never once felt judged or out of place here. I’ve been a member since the opening of the business in Christiansburg. I have been impressed till the recent changes. I am 67 years old and truly loved the place, bragged about it. But the recent changes have me looking for something new. It’s as if they aren’t really concerned about seniors. The new setup is like they did it with blindfolds on. I can understand change but remember we pay too ! Plus we lost some of our best equipment.

The gym is great and the staff is nice and helpful. I’m not happy with the way the yearly billing worked out with cancelling my membership, but that was my misunderstanding when freezing my account for a few months instead of just going ahead and canceling it. The hydrotherapy is nice. If you’re on the fence about canceling like I was, I personally would go ahead and do it.

It's Clean, but the new changes with the equipment leave a lot to be desired if you enjoy the "Nautilus" style machines. Previously we would have to wait sometimes for equipment because someone was on the machine and on the phone. They eliminated much of the equipment and it's not organized well. I don't know how it will be with less equipment and the same number of people. I have spoken to other working adults/senior women at the club and we feel the focus is on younger weightlifters. When we have to wait for equipment early in the morning before work it is not conducive to having a good workout. There is little room left to stretch after the workout. You have to look for a small spot where you are out of the way. It's not relaxing.
They need to expand and put the weight equipment back.

I've enjoyed working out at this club for about 2 years, but they recently made a change that bothers me. They brought in new equipment, mostly plate-based equipment, and cut the number of machines (bicep, triceps, leg press, etc) in half. So even though I go during the morning, which is non-peak time, there is now a wait to use the machines. Meanwhile, the new plate based equipment is hardly used. I imagine it is even worse during peak times. Not a very smart move. I'm really considering canceling my membership.

It's a planet fitness. But the folks here are great! Everyone at the desk is helpful and friendly. The equipment is in good shape and they just recently got tons of new equipment!
Two feedback items..
1 + for the love of Pete try to keep the paper towel dispensers all working. A couple seem broken often
2 - I like pf because it's reasonably quiet.. but there are times a couple members bang weights around like they're heavy metal drummers or something.
Otherwise awesome gym!

They have the absolute BEST tanning beds around here.
The lay down beds are my personal favorite, but they do also have stand up beds too.

We haven't used the gym one time since January when we signed up i have called multiple times trying to figure out how to cancel membership I finally get through to someone and I am told to come in an cancel by the 17th of the month in order to avoid another monthly fee , went into day to cancel and was told they would be taking the fee again for this month and my membership won't cancel til may , I explained to them that due to health reason and having leukemia is why I haven't been there and ask to speak to a manager and was told there was not one there an they was sorry but they would take down my info and have a manager call me around 1pm to get my payments reimbursed and I still havent heard from anyone .

The gym is a good size, it can be extremely busy sometimes but if you go at the right time it won't be too crowded. The workers can be kinda rude sometimes, which is why I gave it a three. It's usually a hit or a miss with them. They're either very nice or they don't even look your way when you're checking in, like they're annoyed.

Been coming here for years every time I’m in town. This is actually my “home club” as I first signed up here when I first went to school in the area.

Staff is solid & nice. Management is also great — they helped me with some unnecessary fee I had on my account a year or two ago.

One of the better planet fitness gyms I’ve been to in the nation. Really no complaints whatsoever. I come in do my workouts, mind my business, and leave. I think management is doing a great job with upkeep. Thank you

PS — I just wanted to add that this is a PF gym. For $15 or $22 a month you can’t beat it. I’ve paid $50-$70 a month at 24hr fitness and LA fitness in different areas that are WORSE than this specific location.

If you’re complaining about this location I recommend you go pay more money at another location for your fitness needs.

Overall a good gym. It's usually very clean. Some of the equipment is getting old. They can be slow to fix issues with broken equipment. For instance, one or two of the stationary bikes have querky electronics or are sometimes out of order, and they only have a few uprights. I always try to go at times that aren't too busy so that I have access to working equipment.

This gym is very clean. The front desk helps me with any equipment I need help with. Members are friendly and quick to show me how to use equipment. I do not have to wait long to use equipment. I am honestly very disappointed! Those add about being able to ask a trainer for help are false. They do not have trainers. Referred me to their app. Guess what, the trainers on the app will give you an at home work out - nothing about the machines or choosing the right ones to work the part of your body you want. For that you are told to read the signs on the machines. But no instruction about reps or choosing/ changing weight level for a complete work out. Oh, and if you want to watch naked people of tv while you attempt to figure out what machines to use this is the place. Think twice about bringing someone under 18 with you. A waste of money if you ask me when you have so many other options in town.

Overall great experience. I was in town for a few days and have a black card membership. Club was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly as well. The machinery is essentially the same as my home club, and that made it nice to keep up with my normal workout.

I will say though that the treadmills I thought seemed a bit dated, worn, and almost more like what you might expect from a home treadmill. They did work just fine though.

I've been a member of PF for close to 5 years now, but 6 months ago, I moved from Roanoke to Christiansburg and had to switch locations. This gym is decent, but it is honestly just too small for the amount of Radford and VT students that go there. I see other reviews complaining about how long people use the smith machines etc., but honestly I don't care about that as they are also paying for a membership and should be able to take up space and use the equipment. The issue is that there isn't enough equipment. Even dumbbells. You quite literally have to wait to use ANYTHING weight related...cables, machines, dumbbells, smiths...there just isn't enough equipment. I've been at every time of day and night and this PF is ALWAYS this crowded. This is the main reason that I just switched to a local, more lifting focused gym. However I do have some much bigger complaints about this location. I have seen students smoking in the locker rooms twice. The students leave their trash, the cable machine attachments, dumbbells, and plates all over the place- honestly this is the messiest and dirtiest PF I've been to (I've been to 5 others😬). One evening when I was there, one of the employees (who wasn't working that evening) came in with her dog. The dog wasn't a service dog and it was in the gym for about 30 minutes and it barked multiple times. I love dogs, but this is definitely against the rules. There is also a lot of broken/faulty equipment. I've told the workers about a couple of these things months ago and they are still broken. A lot of the employees are also younger college aged people and they just don't really clean up very well or take care of things. Honestly for $10 it's not bad, but it's just so much worse than the Roanoke ones. It needs to be bigger and/or have way more equipment...probably double the weight equipment.

Remember to stop planet fitness from chasing and ruining your credit, you will have to sue. They will not stop billing you and require bank routing and your credit cards so you cannot get away. Not very happy! I had went several months ago to cancel our membership due to my husband having a heart attack along with other health issues. The girl at the desk said, “ let’s just freeze your account”, no obligation. She didn’t explain to me that I would be billed in Nov for both husband I. I can almost see billing us for the monthly charge, but membership fee! I know exactly why they do this, people are busy and they will forget to “officially “ cancel. If she had told me straight up that I would be billed on Nov, I would have stop my membership that second. I thought it was more of a courtesy thing. Yes, I signed a paper, but again, this was not explained at all face to face, I was in a hurry to visit my husband that was in the hospital!! So I didn’t think much of it. I think PF should send a reminder or explain things better! So, be careful when “freezing” your account!!! Don’t do it! Either way, you still will get charged a start up fee regardless! Went with a friend as a guest a little over a month ago and joined a few days later. I’ve never been a gym person but the staff and atmosphere here is amazing! I actually hate it I miss a day. Updated review, 2023: Cheap but always packed and their hours are now terrible. It used to be that you could dodge the crowd by going at 5am or after 11pm but now they're only open for 12 hours on the weekends, 7am-7pm. Definitely not worth it unless you like standing around during your workout wasting time until a bench or machine is free.

I love this place. Super welcoming, budget friendly and highly professional employees. This gym stays clean has wonderful tanning beds and I opted for the Black Card membership so I can take advantage of the hydro-beds and massage chairs.

One employee in particular Rebecca Hughes is amazing! She is so friendly and down to earth and literally answers all your questions. She genuinely seems excited to be at work with everyone and enjoys her job and everything it entails. She learns peoples names by the 2nd or 3rd visit and does her best to welcome everyone without neglecting the other components of her job. She and the other employees are hard working and down to earth. The price you pay doesn't seem nearly enough for the amazing treatment and experiences you will enjoy and find yourself having each and every time you visit this location!

Great place to work out, especially if you have teenagers. Both my kids are members. My daughter was able to work out, plus go through her physical therapy exercises, while I slowly get back into shape. Circuit workouts are great because they're quick and you can tailor it to your needs. I love the hydro-massage beds, but don't recommend the massage chairs if you are "bony" like me (it felt like I was being punched in the bones, like the back of the pelvis, etc). We recently went at 3:30pm, I don't recommend going at that time if you'd prefer fewer people because it seems to be prime time for high schoolers and college kids (and common courtesy is in short supply).

A pretty frustrating place to workout. They do a pretty poor job of teaching people gym etiquette especially for how crowded it is. You’ll consistently find people doing things like putting their belongings on workout benches, and not actually using the bench to workout. Then they’ll act offended if you ask them to move their stuff. Smith machines are always crowded and they don’t regulate them at all. Some people will spend their entire workout using smith machines with no regards for others in the gym.

Closing at 7pm on weekends and early on weekdays only serves to make the gym even more crowded than it already is (don't bother with the crowd meter, it'll show low crowds and then you'll show up and barely be able to find anything that isn't being used). And no, it's not because of covid, hardly anyone is wearing masks, and the machines are as close together as usual.
