Friendly and welcoming staff! At least 2-5 machines are broken every time we go. My least favorite thing about the gym is how unbearably loud the terrible music is. Anywhere you go in the whole gym it is too loud and obnoxious. Especially the locker rooms and in the morning when there aren’t many people around.

My wife and I stopped in today simply to inquire about a potential membership. Lenny, the manager on duty (I'm assuming), was so helpful and knowledgeable about the facility, memberships and fitness that we walked out happy members of the Sterling location. We are looking forward to beginning our fitness commitment and if everyone at this location are as pleasant and informed as Lenny, it will certainly make that journey easier and enjoyable. The place was very clean, the accommodations beyond satisfactory and plenty of equipment and spacious work out areas. It was an auspicious beginning and we certainly appreciate Lenny's help in our decision.

They won’t let you cancel even if you are moving. The gym is fine. I Have called multiple times and went in person now three times (drove an hour each way) requesting to cancel the gym membership. Every time the “”manager”” was there but would not come out and there was some issue why he couldn’t cancel the membership. Today I have gotten charged again. I am now on 28 months without going to that gym. I would update this review every month until it is resolved. I will pursue legal action and continue to let everyone know what happened.

Been going there for years, but lately the machines have been very dirty, and many are non-functional. The equipment needs regular maintenance. Some folks are on the phone A LOT and hold up the regulars. The new staff are not well trained to handle member requests and complaints.

Decent gym if you’re mainly focused on cardio—there are plenty of treadmills and ellipticals available. However, the weights area is very small and often overcrowded, making it difficult to find available equipment. If strength training is your priority, this might not be the best option

I noticed a lot of the 5 star reviews are made by third-party or paid for reviews, which is an automatic red flag! I don't know about the rest of the day, but Good luck finding I filled hand sanitizer or a paper towel machine after 6 PM. The place is disgustingly filthy. I hardly see anyone wiping down their equipment. It could be because the staff never refills the paper towel machine. The other day, somebody threw up next to one of the machines, and it was there for a while until the staff got to it.The men's bathroom is disgusting. They got 2 Urinal stalls, and everyday, either they are broken, or just filthy with urine puddle on the floor around them. Some of the sinks don't work so you can't wash your hands in the bathroom. The gym ceiling fans have dust snot's dangling from the fins looks like they haven't been wiped clean for years. Most of the machines have other people sweat and head juice on the pads. My biggest concern is, how is this place getting the green light to operate by the health and sanitation of Virginia? It is literally a petri dish for viruses to thrive. Now that I see how it is, I wish I'd never joined. I just hope upper management take this into account and get somebody in there that manages this facility properly. It's a shame because it could be so much better.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. This place is disgusting. I feel like I get Ebola when I walk in. Every machine is covered in grime and looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. There are too many employees for the gym to look like this. Every inch of this gym is despicable. On top of it the employees are not very kind or friendly. My home gym is Harrisonburg so I just came to see how this is and it will definitely be my last time. On top of it, everything is out of order(those machines are still dirty 🤣)

This Planet Fitness gives you the feeling like you are in a 3rd World 🌎 country. The massage chairs don't work, it has a coin slot so you know they bought it used from some mall. The Hydromax Massage beds don't work so you know this place is definitely not trying to give you your membership money's worth. I hope corporate or who ever owns this place will take the time to inspect his machines and replace them with new one's. I am surprised it hasn't been sued and closed down since it 2 floors and has no elevator to accommodate a handicap person on a wheelchair or electric scooter.
The only good thing in this place is the staff, they're very nice, the owners not so much.
Take care of your customers, buy massage equipment that works.

I’m a black card member and I always go to the Planet Fitness’s when I’m traveling sometimes they’re pretty interesting and cool locations depending on if you’re in the city or not, this was definitely an above average location. The layout was a bit odd and not super convenient you walk in on the street level all the cardio equipment 30 minute workout area Black card spa area down the steps to the machine area second level below ground and then there’s a third level even further down where the freeways are and cable machines squat racks the inconvenience is if you want to fill your water bottle or get a drink the only water fountain and bottle fill are on the first floorsame with regard to the bathrooms. There are only bathrooms on the second level and there are surprisingly windows on all three levels, but with that said some of the areas are kind of dark, but I still have a good workout for the three days that I came here.

this location's Black card spa needs serious help. They have it on an automated scheduling system which may or may not start at the scheduled time you select, the pre-set time frame for device usage is 5 to 10 minutes when all other locations in the area are 10-15 minutes. The hassle and stress isn't worth it. This is one of the only 24 hr locations in all of northern virginia, the Black card spa should be in better shape than what it is. Devices also need upgrading.

I always come to this gym in the afternoon and share an account with my siblings. Today I came with my siblings, as normal. no workers had said anything about sharing the account. Until a Hispanic worker at the front desk told me it wasn’t allowed. We respect the rules and sometimes only come with one person. I see many other people do the same thing.

To enroll, they provide all the necessary technology to complete the process online. However, if you move to a different state and need to cancel your membership, they require you to either come in person or send a written letter. Really ? :)

Reply to the response from Planet Fitness: Thank you for your response. I understand your policies, but I find them a bit contradictory. It’s understandable to make the enrollment process as easy as possible, so why make cancellations more difficult? Requiring a physical letter to cancel seems inconsistent with the convenience provided during sign-up.

I believe this process could be streamlined to better align with the modern, customer-friendly approach you apply elsewhere. I hope you’ll consider this feedback for the future.

8-3-2024 all the women showers were filled with hair and dirt as if they weren’t cleaned in weeks.
I visit a new gym throughout the SE, NE, Mid-West, and south every week do to my work. This is the grossest gym I’ve ever visited. The bathroom stalls haven’t been cleaned in so long there was a thick layer of dust on the door and tissue holders. The handicap shower had large pieces of notebook paper on the floor for some reason. There were black objects in the shower that were of unknown origin.

Well, since you sent me the invite to write a review about this location...here it goes...
1. All the negative comments are true, there are provided with videos and pictures for those who may doutb it. The solution to this problem is easy, really, IF the staff would spend LESS time on their phones at the Frot Desk and MORE time walking around and checking things out, this and all other Planet Fitness gyms would be clean(er). Management is to be held responsable for this and any other flaw the gym has. There are broken treadmills that have been broken for quite some time now and nothing seems to happen.
2. FD staff should be greeting customers when entering the building, not only loooking at the scanner to ensure the person(s) entering has an active membership, some of them don't even bother looking at the person at all. Could not care less. Again, browsing on their phone the entire time.

Don't invite me to reach out to management, I've raise a couple of concerns when I saw them, and usually do that (paper towel stations empty, etc).

Upper managament should be conducting flash inspections (without the staff knowing their are going to be inspected) and see for themselves. Try the easiest thing to do, SECRET SHOPPERS! By the way, all this apply to ALL PF gyms I've been two (I could go to up to 4 in any given month) and it is the same situation). Thank you.

If the national franchise would visit this location they would probably revoke the license. The men’s locker room is always dirty, a literal cesspool. As you can see from the photos about 20% of the lockers are currently broken. There’s a location on Route 28 run much, much better.
On the positive side, it’s open 24/7 and has a good number of machines to just get your work in.

I’ve been going to this Planet Fitness in Sterling for a few years. The staff has always been welcoming and friendly, the other gym members are also fairly friendly, but everyone keeps to themselves. The only problem I face sometimes, then again this is the gym in the plaza center, not the one that’s solely by itself; the area to bench is usually always occupied by people, and sometimes they’ll be there for a long time, so better to just use other machines. Overall, I’m pleased with my membership at this Planet Fitness. I’ve never run into the stereotypical “planet fitness wackos” here so :)

It's generally a good facility. It's in a fairly small space, but they have a nice Black Card lounge & good working equipment including a stretching station, and there is a culture of cleanliness for the equipment with plenty of sanitizing stations. The one glaring problem is the showers. As is usual at PE there's no towel service, but the showers themselves are also borderline useless, with poor drainage and a sorry lack of functional wall hooks for personal towels, shower stall shelf space for toiletries, etc. Fix that and this place would earn 5 stars from me.

The gym is great it's really clean, and there's a LOT of machines. The lowest level where you find your smith machines and dumbells is often crowded, so I suggest walking around and finding machines to work out those parts of your body. The bathrooms were great and super clean. They didn't feel like a sweaty gym bathroom and more like a hotel.

I'm a retired male; my wife still works full time remotely. We really like the 7 days and 24 hrs. availability. I have a black card and my wife is my guest. So we work out 3 times a week (sometimes twice if we're out of town, but access at other PF works for us, too). My wife and I have had rehab and PT several times over many years; we know what we need to do at PF, so the independent exercise is perfect for us, and we like going our own way -- "no critics."
I also like that the little lockers near the entrance of my Sterling, VA, PF have combination locks so I can stow my car keys and cell phone safely. I have been to PF where the don't have locks or you need to bring your own lock.

This gym is the best run gym I've ever used. Machines are maintained, it's very clean (except during the rare days they have a shortage of trained staff) and the staff is always pleasant. Much of this is due to Mario, who took over management a few years ago. I hope he is promoted to a regional position so the other Planet Fitness I use can be made first rate, too.

This is by far the Worst Planet fitness I’ve ever been to. I am a government employee who travels around the country for work. I have been to over 30 different Planet Fitness. This one should be closed down. It’s beyond dirty. I don’t mind an old gym but this is ridiculously filthy. Machines haven’t been cleaned in months. Filthy very unkempt Planet Fitness location. There was trash on the floors, smudges all over the windows and mirrors. Locker room was in a most horrendous condition. I didn't even stay to shower, just grabbed my gear and bolted.
Interesting three tier layout that isn't bad accept the only water bottle fill station was on top. For some reason the DB's only went to 60lbs. at this location where they normally go to 75lbs.
I travel a good bit and work out at many PF's, this needs better management and an immediate deep cleaning.
*Update* I've also heard from several sources this gyms management has a review bounty program that pays employees $25 for five-star reviews they solicit from friends and acquaintances. One tip, look at the total reviews a reviewer to gauge credibility.

I’ve been at this planet fitness since it has opened up. This location has really gone downhill, sadly. The cardio machines are so filthy, you can see dust and sweat stains all over. I used to see employees cleaning them before but have not seen that in awhile. Also, what’s going on with the AC? Are they not trying to fix it? The ventilation in there is horrible! It’s so HOT and although they have fans and small ac machines around, it still barely helps how hot it gets in there. Bathrooms are filthy as well, seems like it’s never really been cleaned. Bottom floor is just a mess as well with cords, fans and just looks so unorganized. Can something be done about this in order to get this PF location back to how great and clean it was before?

Lockerooms/bathrooms need to be better maintained. No soap in showers and a few times there was no toilet paper in one stall. Showers need to be cleaned. Also water fountains don't work which is bad cause you sweat more than average due to the temperature being warm in the facility; dont mind it being too warm but i need to rehydrate and sometimes i forget to bring water. I might have to cancel my membership due to these things not changing.

Stop gap gym. They sacrifice excellence for political correctness. In catering for females they throttle male expectations. Free weights leave a lot to be desired. No free weight curl bench or press. The machine curl is usually only one which in every PF I've been to is worn out. And if you want to press yourself to the maximum, do it silently like chi doesn't exist or you'll be labeled.

It's not bad at all. The machines and everything in the gym is clean and works. The counters are a cool addition too. BUT the squat racks and leg press (the entire bottom floor) is always packed. Groups of 4 to 6 use the equipment for a long period of time, therefore you have no time to finish a full workout. I'm limited on time here, so I need to do as much as I can in the hour I have. Just returned to the gym after not going for a while, and in the past 2 weeks I haven't been able to use the benchpress/squatrack or leg press once. I don't even go during peak hours, I go at 9 pm. They need more equipment.

clean gym, nice staff, but......they sign up members with NO instructions to use! No comments on gym etiquette. I am constantly assisting members of all ages with proper use of equipment, as I saw one man sitting backwards on a machine and over-straining his back!! WORST PART: EVERY MACHINE, from weight benches to the single ab machine, are used as sitting chairs between sets while the members check their cell phones! Asking to work in is taken like I barged into someone's house without knocking....often, I am in a debate of why I cannot wait 4 more sets to finish my workout! It is even more terrible now that they have student summer deal! EVERYONE sits on the machines, checking cell phones!

The Gym is affordable with ample equipment but just absolutely filthy! I don’t understand how much dirt, hair, grime and dust can build up on the equipment before they do a proper deep clean. Even the cleaning stations are dusty and filthy. The bathrooms are a mess on Saturday morning during peak hours. I’ve politely informed the staff who said they are aware and short cleaning staff. I’ve sent in multiple surveys but still nothing so sharing some pics I took today June 15, 2023. 😞. Planet Fitness PLEASE PLEASE CLEAN THE GYM PROPERLY.

We gave it 4 stars due to the fact, the most popular workout area, weights, was too small. The weight stations were overcrowded and unattainable during our visit at noon on a Friday. Btw, the crowd meter was not even registering, that was why we picked that time.

I don't understand why ur employees are not allowed to sit while working up front by the computers. Also why are they not allowed to eat during up front during their shift. Especially night crew. It's not that busy. Also please give them a raise especially since rio is right next store and the gym employees keep us safe during our workout and letting us know when there are fights/ violent person outside. I hope to see some changes the next few weeks!
