I did the intro to pole class, and it wasn't too difficult or anything like that. My body was still very confused because everything was new to me but the next day it felt like I did a FULL body workout for 5 hours 😂😂 its an excellent workout, atmosphere is so welcoming and inviting and will DEFINITELY be back.

I had the pleasure of taking a class this past Sunday with three of my closest friends. We really enjoyed the class and our instructor (can’t remember her name at this time). We selected the silks and hoop class and I must say, we had a ball. The next day we were all sore from using muscles we probably having used in a while but it was so worth it.

If you are thinking about it, please do it! I have my first beginners class today and I had so much fun. The Instructor was very honest about the experience, but make sure we were safe and have fun. It was an intimate small group so we all had a hands-on experience. Even in learning and messing up, it was still so much fun. I will definitely be going back again! If you’re thinking about doing it, just do it!! And please make sure to stretch.😂

My friend and I attended an intro class on July 5th, 2025 with Kristen as the instructor and we had a great time. All the staff were nice and supportive. I love when a warm up with dynamic stretching is incorporated so I felt great going into pole and silks. Kristen explained the how to steps very well. We never felt lost or confused. We will definitely book another class when I’m back in town.

My friends and I took a class with Kristin and we had a BLAST. We got to do 2 apparatuses - silks and hoop - for a 90 minute class. Kristin made us feel so welcome and safe the entire class. The class started with a warmup and stretching to wake up the muscle groups we were going to use. All the poses and skills were demonstrated to us first, and then Kristin helped cue us through the skills while we were trying them ourselves. There was no judgement while we were getting the hang of things. This was such a good workout and a tough physical challenge, but anyone of any physical fitness level would be able to try it out and have so much fun doing it. I highly recommend Railroad Aerial Arts!

We celebrated a birthday here and it was the BEST time!

One star docked for cleanliness, but that's not to say it wasn't clean. Personally, I feel it just could've been cleaner. I don't know the cleaning schedule/protocol but the mats we were on looked previously used by others as there were strands of hair, residue/impressions, and other particles on it. When we started with stretches on the mats, I couldn't get comfortable with my head/hair/face that close to the floor. So, I recommend coming prepared with a blanket or personal yoga mat if you have similar concerns. It will only be used for the first 20 or so minutes anyway. There's a place to safely leave your personal items. I forgot all about my concerns after that. My only other critique is that there was room for 4 fabrics to hang, but only 3 were used for my 5 person group. So, we were required to pair in groups of 2 with 1 odd one out. I did learn upon arrival that they have a rule to not use all 4 fabrics for a less than 7 person group. So, we continuously had an oddball 5th person that had to rotate around the fabrics and poles, but it didn't take away from the fun we all still had!

Now, onto the better part of the review! We did the fabrics and pole workouts. Yes, I said "workouts" because bay-beee, my whole group was feeling it the next day. I believe Ashley was our class trainer. Let me just say, she is one bad mamma jamma! Body was tea and she effortlessly flexed on our group every opportunity she had (granted, it was to show us the next lesson)... that woman is a pro-fesh-shun-nalll! She was incredibly patient when our group struggled with different activities and stepped in to correct our forms as needed. She was very accommodating by asking us what kind of music we wanted to vibe to, if we had any disabilities, and what kind of teaching style we wanted from her. Ashley was just so much fun and supported/cheered/congratulated our achievements, however small, at every turn. I truly wish anyone else that comes here to have as great an experience with the lessons and with Ashley as my group did!

My son loves the Saturday kids classes! It’s so cool that he can learn such a unique skill and he has so much fun doing it. I like that he’s getting a great workout and challenging himself. It’s nice that the class size is small so the kids get a lot of personal attention. We’re so happy that we found Railroad Aerial Arts!

Railroad Aerial Arts is truly a gem! I absolutely love the variety of aerial classes they offer — there’s always something new and exciting to try. The instructors are incredible — their cuing is clear, thoughtful, and supportive, which makes such a difference in learning new skills safely and confidently.

One of the things that stands out most is how safe and well-structured the environment is. You can tell they prioritize both technique and student well-being. On top of all that, the community here is so welcoming. Everyone — from the staff to fellow students — creates such a positive, uplifting space to train in.

Shout out to Tess, Arika, Ashley, and Krista!!!

My experience here has been great. I've trialed a bunch of different aerial options using their First Time Flyer class option. Even though I am incredibly new at everything they teach, every class has very flexible modifications that still let me manage to complete the full sequence they teach in their class. I'm always spent right at the end of class, so they make great use of the class time.

My intro to poles class was so fun. I was so nervous it was my first time even touching a pole. I did it to build confidence and it was something I’ve always wanted to try. My instructor Kristin was amazing she made me feel comfortable she was great at breaking everything down. She knew when I needed to step away from the pole and regroup because i was too anxious. I just finished my first class and I’m already searching the calendar looking for my next class to schedule. This is definitely a great experience and something I wish to continue. Her vibes was amazing the atmosphere was perfect the music was perfect and even though it was an intro class I walked away learning so much and I didn’t expect that.

I really enjoyed myself. The instructor was very patient with us and made us feel comfortable even when we couldn’t do a move correctly. She was awesome! They offer tripods so you can film yourself which was great and she didn’t mind showing us techniques over and over again if we didn’t get it the first time. The only thing I didn’t like is that there are only 4 slings available and 8 people in the class so we had to take turns which made it feel like I didn’t get that much time to practice certain moves. But overall, great experience and I will definitely be back!

I was so excited to try this aerial class after seeing it on TikTok, as I’ve been looking for new hobbies to explore. Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t as welcoming as I had hoped. Since it was my first time, there were many things I didn’t understand or know how to do, and I felt the instructor didn’t provide enough guidance or support for a beginner like me.

She seemed to focus much more on the other two people in the class, who appeared more advanced. When I started to get discouraged because I wasn’t picking it up as quickly, there was no encouragement from her. In fact, when she did help me, it felt forceful and almost like she was frustrated that I wasn’t getting it as fast as the others.

I’m not skinny, but I’m also not big, and it felt like the instructor assumed I was less capable than the other, smaller participants, which was disheartening. It really ruined what I hoped would be a positive and fun first-time experience. I had been looking forward to making this a regular hobby, but after today, I don’t think I’ll be returning.

The studio itself is beautiful, and my friend enjoyed the class, but sadly, my first experience left me feeling disappointed.

The instructor was very engaging, and reassuring, and she worked at our pace. The mixture of physical challenge, fun, and laughter was a great balance while exploring something entirely new. I'm excited to try out the other classes!

Took my first class with Kristen and it was such a treat. The studio atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and inclusive. Kristen created an environment where it was easy to challenge yourself to try new things/be outside your comfort zone.

The instructors, especially for sling and silk, have been exceptional. I'm thrilled to continue my aerial journey with such a talented and supportive team!

Ashley is an amazing instructor. I purchased the frequent flyer package and have completed all four classes on the silk apparatus. I have grown tremendously in the past 4 weeks with my comfort in using the apparatus as well as my confidence. Ashley and her team tailor each class to the experience in the room and ensure safety as their top priority. I can’t wait to attend my next class!!!

The owner, Ashley, is warmly welcoming, very supportive every step of the way, and an all-around wonderful person. The other instructors also provide gentle/pressure-free instruction with excellent feedback ~ whoever is teaching, you'll always have fun! The Sling (single fabric, U-shaped) lessons are perfect for those who are new to aerial arts. Other apparatuses currently offered are Trapeze, Hoop, and Silk (2 side-by-side fabrics used simultaneously, NOT connected). All classmates are kind & respectful. Don't hesitate, give this a try, and you'll surprise yourself by what you can achieve your first time - no prior experience necessary!

I had the best experience at Railroad Aerial Arts. I tried all four apparatuses with a different instructor at each. Every instructor was kind, personable, and explained each apparatus with clarity. I would definitely recommend Railroad Aerial Arts to anyone and will be returning myself again for a class soon.

I took a silks level 1 class about 2 weeks ago and i had so much fun, the instructors were nice and patient and helped me build the confidence to push through. Aerial was a lot harder than it looked but having a small setting it was easier to get help. 10/10 experience would recommend ❤️

Ashley has made an amazing place in Railroad Aerial! I’ve done a fair variety of athletic things and was looking for that sweet spot of something new and safe (I’m nearly 40 so don’t have quite the crazy strain I used to) and challenging. This was absolutely that!!! In an intro class, Ashley expertly managed teaching and coaching across multiple experience and ability levels. You can feel how much she loves aerial arts and how much she wants to share that with others! Come here for a whole new workout!

Great experience! My instructor, Brandee, was sweet, informative, and very patient! I felt really nervous to attend but she quickly put me at ease. Class was challenging but so fun! It was easy to book class and the facility is very clean! The only con for me is that I bought a 2 week, 6 class option but I think I’ll only be able to use 4 classes because it’s mostly night class availability and I work nights but their schedule is visible prior to purchasing and that’s just a “me” conflict. I’d love more morning class options! Overall a truly great experience and I look forward to more classes!

This studio is incredible! I've been in aerial arts before, but this one takes the cake. Railroad makes me feel included and capable even though I'm older, fatter, and more out of shape than I used to be. The ceilings are high enough to be able to really climb, the instructors know what they're about and can modify anything for anyone, and every one of my classes just fly by. I wholeheartedly recommend this studio for anyone of any age, size, or ability.

This was a great class! Ashley is awesome at tailoring a class to the students, and the ratio of conditioning to apparatus time is just right. The class was accessible for all skill levels and fun. If you've been wanting to try out silks, hammock/sling, lyra/hoop, or trapeze, I'd recommend this studio to get you started.

Railroad Aerial Arts (RAA) is set in the historical railroad district in the Ghent area of Norfolk, VA. The area is super cute and eclectic with fun restaurants nearby like The Fishing Pig and Union Taco. When you walk into RAA, the natural light and historic brick walls give the space such a cool, industrial vibe. Ashley Little, the owner, is so welcoming and makes you feel like family in her presence. She puts you at ease during her classes with her easy to follow instructions and step by step progressions. I absolutely loved my dance trapeze class that I took from her and I can't wait to do it again soon! Thanks Ashley! =)
