Our kids ice hockey team played an away game at St.James on Saturday. Non-member parking seemed very limited, so get there early. Inside, the place is awesome! Indoor soccer fields, basketball courts, two sheets if ice, gym equipment, a rock wall, and shopping...maybe more. Helpful staff.

My personal trainer here, Dahea, is absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable and is the reason why I've been able to make tremendous strides in my fitness and strength. She's the reason why I'm still a member here. The facilities are very nice and the membership events are wonderful but their payment system was a total mess and they kept making mistakes with my payments initially.

Holy smokes! I've been in the military for 10 years. I have never seen a recreational facility this epic before! They have a full indoor football field and hockey rink! They even have a restaurant in this place! Maybe I've been living under a rock at the bases I've been stationed at but I've never seen a facility like that. The staff was amazing and respectful. They provided clear guidance and instructions as everyone entered the building. Very clean and welcoming environment. Well done to the team at The St. James.

I’m so glad I came across this mega complex of a gym. Everyone is SO friendly, the facility is huge and so advanced…fantastic spa, great equipment selection, and something I didn’t realize I needed…on site EMTs…I personally train here and then attend adult rec leagues here and am so glad they use this gym. Great value for what you’re getting.

I worked with Ebony Whisnant for one-on-one personal training over the summer, meeting twice a week for a month. In just nine sessions, I lost five pounds and even saw an increase in my skeletal muscle mass. Ebony makes every session fun, challenging, and unique—no two workouts are ever the same. She pays close attention to form and always provides knowledgeable suggestions for modifications when needed, which made me feel supported and safe while still being pushed to do my best. I’m so pleased with my results that I’ve already signed up for her group training sessions. Highly recommend Ebony if you’re looking for someone who truly knows how to motivate, support, and guide you toward your goals!

We had my songs bday party and it was seamless, enjoyable, amazing and expensive. You definitely pay for all the perks that come with having a party there.

The room had a dedicated party helper which was Diana and she was fantastic. It was a lot of kids and adults in our room but we made it work! The unlimited lemonade was worth it.

We ordered extra pizzas and guacamole and chips for the adults. Next time, we are going to get more food for the adults. They do not accept outside goods except cake or cupcakes. They also cut the kids pizza in smaller sizes so I didn’t see a lot of wasted pizza.

When you are the party host, you get to park one car in the membership lot even though we are not members. They also had a promo for the party so it was a very good way to entice non-members to have parties there.

We stayed for 2 hours. The play area is so enjoyable for the kids. My kids never want to leave. There’s climbing, 2 mon bounces, and a maze where you can run around and play with plastic shooters.

They also gave us 1hr play pass to use in the future. The facility is clean and the turn around is pretty quick. When they tell you have 10 mins in your party room, you can’t extend it or else there is a fee.

My husband was also Spiderman so that made it extra special.

It's the gym I deserve!!! Great equipment and space to exercise like I like. My 4 year old loved the daycare so much he didn't want to leave when I was ready. That's a situation you want. Sauna and steam room, towel service, body wash and I can not say enough how much I love the eucalyptus scented cold towels!!! My 12 year old thought the arcade was just okay but love the lounge spaces for him to chill while I work out and he gets acclimated to being more active.
Can't wait to try the power nap class one day soon!!!

The review is only directed at the REC soccer. It feels like the rec soccer program is not anything like the normal traditional rec soccer programs around the area. For example, there are not multiple teams competing in the same age group.That means the small group of kids in the same age group are split into two separate teams and play against each other on the weekends feeling like this is more of a backyard soccer feeling. They don’t play on full size soccer fields because they only have one indoor field, So if you’re looking for a more traditional competitive feeling, and this is not it. Soccer uniforms take forever when you have to buy from the vendor the gym should have them in store readily available to purchase, which they don’t. The facility itself is a nice facility and so is the equipment and the staff. I feel if you wanna get the best bang for your money the clinics are pretty good for soccer, but I just would not recommend rec soccer.

Personal Training Review-

I don't ever write reviews, but I needed to share just how impactful my experience had been with personal training! After my second C-section, my main goal was simple—I just wanted to get stronger. I began personal training with Ebony Whisnant a couple months after giving birth, and it has truly been one of the BEST decisions I’ve made for my health and recovery. Coming into the sessions, I was unsure of how to safely rebuild strength, improve my core stability, and regain confidence in my body after pregnancy.

Ebony not only created thoughtful, tailored workouts, but also provided encouragement and education on what movements were safe and effective for postpartum journey. What I appreciated most was the balance between challenge and compassion—every session really pushed me just enough while still honoring the healing process. She paid close attention to form, breath work, pelvic floor engagement, which gave me peace of mind and helped me avoid injury.

Some days were so hard that I felt like I couldn’t keep going, but Ebony encouraged me, motivated me, and took “can’t” out of my vocabulary. Beyond the physical benefits, training with her gave me a sense of empowerment and routine at a time when life often felt so unpredictable and exhausting for me!

Over the course of 3 1/2 months, I’ve lost 9 lbs, but even more importantly, I feel stronger, more energetic, and more connected to my body again. Postpartum can be such a vulnerable season, but having the right guidance and support made ALL the difference. I am so grateful for Ebony, and I would wholeheartedly recommend postpartum personal training with her to any new parent or anyone who wants to rebuild STRENGTH, restore confidence, and prioritize their well-being!!!

For crytherapy doesn't if you clean or dirty they just give you dirty socks, and a bathrobe they have 2 hanging they may have more I'm not sure but your skin touches those robes they aren't clean.

They need a tire to flip.

The volleyball house program here is not worth the investment. My child tried three different programs, and only one coach showed real effort in teaching. The majority of coaches allowed kids to repeat mistakes without correction and rarely engaged with them.

Another concerning issue is that coaches seem to give more attention to players whose parents approach them directly, leaving other kids overlooked. I’ve seen girls excluded from practice games, some even in tears, simply because they weren’t part of the “known” group.

The negative impact on my athlete’s confidence and motivation lasted for weeks. Thankfully, after switching to other programs, they now feel included, challenged, and truly part of a team.
For that price point, take your money elsewhere!

The place is big but day after day of fighting over limited parking space and children running around, it gets exhausting. They keep on increasing membership prices. They don’t do a good job of cleaning the snow from the sidewalks in the winter. They keep the facility clean and staff is nice.

Amazing venue. This large complex is less than 10 years old and has everything. 2 ice rinks, football field, Olympic size swimming pool and 3 levels of equipment and opportunity to exercise. Not to mention the rock climbing wall and full kids zone. The main level cafe features a full menu and even a bar. The courted salon is located within the gym for massages, red light therapy and even cold plunge and cryro. The only downside is the parking. Limited parking and typically overrun by all of the activities.

For the high cost of membership — plus paying extra for a personal trainer — (Maddox) I’d expect a much more professional environment. Having a trainer show up in pajamas and UGGS is disrespectful and unprofessional - When you invest this much, you expect excellence, not casual behavior that doesn’t match the standards this facility claims to uphold.

Also, there really should be signs in the saunas and steamers asking members to keep quiet. I recently encountered a group of ladies being loud and disruptive, making it difficult for others to enjoy the space peacefully. As a paying member, I believe everyone deserves a respectful and relaxing environment throughout the facility.

I have been a loyal member of the Bethesda location since it opened its doors a couple of years ago, and my initial experiences were fantastic. The staff is warm and welcoming, the equipment is top-notch, and the community of fellow gym-goers is truly inspiring. However, I’m disappointed to report that the management has fallen short of expectations.

Recently, the gym has transitioned to a new cleaning crew, and over the past week, I’ve encountered some concerning issues. On several occasions, the crew has left standing soapy water on the men’s locker room floor, creating a serious safety hazard. Additionally, they have been closing the showers and steam room for cleaning during peak hours, which is quite inconvenient, and I’ve noticed a lack of towels available for members.

I have reached out to three different staff members during my visits to address these concerns, emailed the general manager, and even submitted a message through the customer support page of the website. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive any response or see any resolution to these matters. I truly value this gym and do not wish to look for alternatives. I hope to see improvements soon, as I believe this location has the potential to be exceptional once again.

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was too frustrating to ignore. I reached out with a simple inquiry, hoping to reach an agreement in renting a court, but instead I was met with Daisy Young Song, member services of St. James who clearly had no interest in actually listening. She kept cutting me off, assuming things before I could finish telling my potential plan of renting in a weekly basis. It honestly felt like she were just trying to get me off the phone as quickly as possible. I don't know why because I was so polite.

Customer service is supposed to be about understanding and helping - here, it felt like I was a nuisance just for asking for if there's a room for negotiating rate. I have a group of more than 10K members in the DMV area willing to pay for the rent in a weekly basis. Very disappointing, and it makes me question whether this company values its potential customers at all.

Just had the worst customer service by someone named Daisy. Who answered the phone for the customer service number. She wasn’t willing to help me. I asked if there was someone else who could assist me since she couslnt. She told me to call back later when someone else was in so they could help me. Awesome facility where hockey was an afterthought. No entry permitted on rink-level and parking can be a nightmare. No hockey pro shop and no skate sharpening on the fly. The worst part is that the rinks share stands and the players can hear whistles and buzzers on both rinks since there's nothing to dampen the sound. Not uncommon for both teams to stop play on a whistle only for the refs to have to yell "not ours" so the players know to keep going. Easy fix if they cared....

I joined the St. James believing I would attend a high end gym and have a great experience; unlike the others that are much cheaper. I was wrong. Don’t get me wrong, The facility itself is really nice. However it’s SOME of the staff including one of the managers; Eric, that made it uncomfortable. I went to Eric with a concern about one of his male staff members months ago, and he was dismissive. I then had another situation happen with a very rude female staff. When I went to express concern to Eric (as that is my right as a paying member), he then deflected and told me” Since you have issue with staff I’ll cancel the membership!” That was shocking and extreme. There’s no accountability. Instead I’m retaliated against. My membership and voice doesn’t seem to matter. Sucks there’s no HR department. For what I paid I just thought I would receive better customer service. Instead I’ve gotten dirty looks and rude treatment. Nobody has followed up about the issue or a refund for the month I paid for! This place doesn’t seem to care about retaining their individual members or fixing the bigger issue. Equinox is more enjoyable, glad I made the switch!

Update - we went to a bday party at the Super Awesome… and one of the video games guns had a literal wire sticking out of it (Pictured).
They need to do some maintenance on everything there as it’s all falling apart… the toilets are a mess, the locker rooms as well.

I am a member of the gym- I don't use the sports complex/bday parties/spa.

The facilities are nice and clean, the parking has gotten better since they made recent changes, and the food at the cafe is not bad! I will say their class schedule/teachers could be better. Not a lot of evening options, and not enough yoga!!

The yoga classes I've been to are okay, but the studio is next to the fitness floor and is not soundproofed well- hard to get in the zone.

I loveeee the infantry camp classes (both trainers) and the HIIT the Track class- so cool, there's a community formed with the frequent class goers, and they are really good workouts.

I've noticed they are adding more classes so hopefully that keeps happening, and hopefully they bring on some new teachers too.

I’ll give you guys an honest review. I was a member at the gym for about 2 years. They market the membership to having access to the entire gym and all the facilities, that can’t be further from the truth. As a working parent, my goal was to get in the gym around 4:30 or 5, crank out my workout in the next hour or two and go home to my family. I was never able to do my workout the way I planned, for various reasons…

Starting around 3, there are kids loitering everywhere and just sitting on machines. It’s frustrating because they sit there for hours just occupying the machines. I assume some of them may have memberships but not all do, that is very obvious.

As for having access to the rock climbing wall, basketball court, soccer field, gymnastics and pool, every time I asked for a ball or I asked to go swim I was met with ‘it’s booked today’. Again all the facilities are occupied after 5 everyday anyway and mostly on Saturdays and Sundays for the kids. What time are the adults supposed to go? 10 am on a Tuesday? To be able to afford this, you gotta work. The rock climbing wall was never open the whole time I was there.

I also have an issue with the locker room. I’ve seen men in the women’s locker room. As soon as they walk in, all the women get uncomfortable. We all just stop and stall. There are also kids in there who need to be protected.

My membership started at 169 but they kept increasing it and I think I left at 189. The price can not be justified for what is actually provided. We can’t use any of the facilities and it’s hard to get a workout in after work. The water fountain is also room temperature (it’s a gym, needs to be cold). The shower water doesn’t get hot, it’s also room temp. They clearly have the membership aspect for extra revenue. They don’t really care about us and we def don’t have priority. I would say this membership would only be justified if it was 70 or less a month because we don’t have access to the facilities they advertise and that is how they justify the price.

Lifetime would be a better option! Atleast you can use what you pay for.

The showers was very cold and it has some cockroaches in the shower and the locker room is good but you have to pay an extra fee. The pool was closed due to a swim meet and they don't have some availability for the free swim and it's getting frustrated. I highly recommend not going there

For a gym it's great. They have fun areas like the free skate on the drink and the rock wall and Super, Awesome, Amazing. Parking is terrible! They often block of the lot for members only. There's too many tournaments that frequently interfere with the leagues. And it's horribly expensive!

The facility is beautiful but the parking is atrocious. Was here for an event and it took countless times driving through the parking lots and roads to eventually come across a spot. The facility size to parking ratio is way off. The management of ticket sales was also very poor. It was so slow the majority of parents missed the first games.

I am a 3 year member and have booked Super, Awesome, & Amazing for 4 different birthday parties and I couldn’t be more pleased with the every experience. From start to finish, they make the entire process seamless and enjoyable for both the kids and the parents!
The teams are incredibly professional and organized from the batting cage, ice rink, field house to the Super Awesome & Amazing. The team members were very responsive and communicated well during the event.

The party activities were a hit and kept the kids entertained for the parties duration.

The food options were perfect for the kids, and they offer adult options as well. They accommodated our dietary and religious preferences without any issues.

We were beyond happy with how everything turned out. The team at The St. James exceeded our expectations in every way. If you’re looking to book a turn key birthday party, I would absolutely recommend them!

Staff are unprofessional and childish. They abuse space when on and off the clock and sneak in non members due to lack of management. Activity spaces like the basketball courts and fields are rented out to youth camps or closed for private events not for members. Staff play basketball in the weightlifting area when on and off the clock. I have personally heard staff talking with friends who don’t have memberships in the locker room on how to sneak in later in the evenings. Front desk staff eat while working and have no urge to answer questions, such as when I asked if ice packs were available. They ignored my request.

I love this place and everything about it. Except for the parking 🅿️ I wish if they make spaces for parents with little kids. Others can walk easily while parents struggle to do so specially with more than one kid. The staff is all so friendly and always smiling.
