Such an amazing gym! Moved to Tacoma recently and was nervous about finding my new gym. No worries now, only appreciation. Ascent is inclusive, supportive and truly a community. The classes are rewarding and make me feel stronger after each one. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone!!

Ascent offers everything I have wished for in a gym - body positivity/neutrality, no toxic diet culture, inclusivity, and respect for where everyone is at in their fitness journey. I feel both supported and challenged by each coach I’ve worked with. I really appreciate their ‘gradual approach’ to joining their gym. It gave me time to build confidence and learn form before jumping into group classes. So helpful for preventing injury! Their demos of movements and the ways you can adjust them during classes are so helpful and speak to how they want you to move and take care of yourself without judgement.

Ascent Fitness is a welcoming space for anyone looking to improve their strength and personal health. The four coaches I have worked with so far are all quite knowledgeable and helpful with giving corrections and keeping everyone safe and supported during the sessions. So happy to have found this fitness community to improve my functional strength!

Can’t say enough good things about Ascent! The gym itself is great, programming is smart, and coaches know their stuff. But the highlight here is the community! It’s super inclusive and welcoming, and the coaches and members really care and want you to succeed. Highly recommend!

I’ve been able to find the joy in movement again at Ascent, thanks to the inclusive, body positive community they’ve created!

The gym’s coaches and my fellow members have helped me feel more confident in my own strength. The workouts are fun and challenging, and coaches offer helpful modifications upfront.

Pre-Ascent I’d gone to different gyms but never quite felt like I fit. Ascent was different from day one, and after 3 years I can confidently saying going to this gym - especially the powerlifting classes - is one of the best parts of my weekly routine.

I'm a 3 year member of Ascent, a longtime psychologist at an eating disorder clinic, and cannot say enough positive things about Ascent Fitness! The values of the gym are embraced by all coaches and members and include creating a fun, positive, community-based gym space focused on joyful movement. You will never find diet or weight-loss challenges here and all body shapes, sizes, and identities are (not just accepted but) celebrated. I have many clients and colleagues who live in the Seattle area who WISH they were close enough to join Ascent. It's one of a kind and the best I've ever experienced!! I hope they're around forever!

Ascent is the best gym I've ever experienced. The trainers are fantastic and capable of meeting your needs and recommending modifications at the drop of a hat. Coming back from a hysterectomy, I was nervous to workout, but Ascent was a soft place for me to land. I rebuilt my strength and confidence. Beyond that, I found a community. I'm encouraged to push myself, but also listen to my body. I recommend it to anyone looking for a place to continue or start their journey of strength or wellbeing.

Joining Ascent really felt like coming home to joyful movement (that I felt like I had lost for a while). Incredibly grateful to the coaches and community there!!

Plus - they will teach you how to correctly tie your shoes if your shoes are often untied due to your poor tie job :)

I love Ascent Fitness! I started here back in fall 2024 and then took a break at the start of 2025 to try out the YMCA. I realized quickly the Y was not for me and have returned to Ascent. I really love their commitment to inclusivity when it comes to body diversity, as well as queer and trans folks, and they are great at including this representation on their site and social media. Ascent really lives their values and I greatly appreciate that. Every workout starts with a question of the day and everyone is invited to share their name and pronouns. Every coach I’ve had the opportunity of working out with is amazing and they always offer modifications before anyone even asks. The workouts are about 45 minutes and organized into about 3 parts. I always feel like I can go at my own pace and I never feel shamed for where I’m at. Ascent Fitness has been a healing balm for my past experiences with toxic gym culture and performativity, which has really allowed me to pay attention and listen to my body. Ascent Fitness is a perfect continuation of my journey in movement and fitness and feels the most like home I’ve ever felt in fitness environments. I appreciate the hell out of y’all! Keep up the good work!

I love this gym so much! It is a very safe space for neurodivergent, queer, and trans people, as well as cis women. The prices are about what you would expect for a small gym, but the experience is well worth the cost. The trainers are attentive and dedicated to making sure that your training plan works for you and are more than happy to provide modifications if needed.

As their alarm went off for 6 or so hours keeping me up all night when I had to work in the morning, nobody would answer the phone or texts and I get it one might be asleep but they could have just said sorry the next day. But whatever, I'm not a fan.

Incredibly thankful for a space that embraces you wherever you are in life. I've been to a couple of gyms, typically CrossFit, in my life. I am now a mother of 2 and previously had a career as a first responder. Life has clearly changed, a lot, and if I'm being completely honest I've been chronically stressed. So, having found a space to move my body and clear my mind in a gentle way has been a breath of fresh air and something I've never experienced before within a gym setting. I appreciate that warm up/cool downs are programmed into the gym time so that I'm not having to show up earlier/stay late to complete them and it makes a world of a difference to start each class with a fun way to get to know others in the gym via their Question Of The Day. I've been a member with Ascent for a couple of months now and the workouts meet me where I'm at while also being a challenge without an ounce of pressure to push myself to injury. My former gym experiences have typically looked like loud music, a lot of competition, mirrors & scales, everyone "looks the same", rigid workouts, larger class sizes and lacking in accessibility. The coaches and staff at Ascent have been nothing but kind and educated. I've been really impressed and thankful to see offerings like "Low Impact Small Group" which is great for those seeking a slower pace/limited mobility/pre or post giving birth IE, or Sound Bath Meditation. Ascent Fitness has proved themselves to be genuinely caring about ones mental health, being community focused + driven, and supportive of ones journey through life.. Thank you Ascent Fitness for changing my life in an incredibly positive way.

Joining Ascent has truly been one of the best things I have done in the past few years. This is a gym like no other I've ever been to. The environment is incredibly supportive, and the workouts are varied and challenging. Every class begins with a short stretch session where everyone introduces themselves with names, pronouns, and the answer to a fun little intro question. Most workouts have a warm-up, a main strength section, and then a "push" at the end which is generally a mix of cardio and strength. I have learned a ton of strength training moves I didn't know before, like deadlifts, bench press, cleans, and snatches. The coaches offer individualized attention and if there is ever a move that you don't want to do, they will offer alternatives. At the end of every class I feel strong and energized. The workouts vary depending on the day of the week, so I attend 3 nights a week and get a different workout each time. The gym space is beautiful - large front windows, a huge exposed brick wall, and the floor is a big soft mat (like the kind you would have at a rock climbing gym). Some workouts are more strength focused, and some are more cardio focused. They also have multi-week series where for instance if you attend every Tuesday night, you build up weight on a certain move and track your progress. The owner and coaches are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I literally could not recommend this gym more highly! It is one of the best things about my life here in Tacoma. Run, do not walk, to sign up for Ascent!!!

I have been a member at Ascent for a month now, and have been incredibly grateful for the coach’s consistently thoughtful, kind, and instructive support through my first few weeks. I think I’ve had a class with every coach now, and while each has their own flavor of leading the class, the values of Ascent are clearly the foundation of their leadership.

Additionally, I’m grateful for the way I always feel well watched over and cared for. I specifically wanted a gym where I would learn proper form, and the team continues to deliver class after class. I’m so glad I finally joined.

I loved working out at Ascent while I was briefly living in Tacoma. I felt instant community as the gym really feels like a come as you are space. All the trainers are so welcoming. It’s rare to find a gym that centers queerness and fat acceptance. I worked with Tasheon who is really knowledgeable, fun, and laid back.

Ascent is amazing! I have been attending classes for about a month and I am feeling so much stronger and excited about moving my body already. The instructors provide such good instruction and there are always multiple variations for each movement so you have options that work best for you. It is also a safe and non-judgmental space which is so much better than any other gym I have been to! For the first time in a long time I look forward to my workouts rather than dread them.

I love going to Ascent Fitness! I've been a member for a couple of months now and I particularly love how varied, fun, and challenging the workouts are in a very manageable amount of time. When I've belonged to other gyms in the past, I've typically done my own thing and gotten bored/ in a rut pretty quickly and not really experienced much progress. Ascent Fitness workouts are so much more targeted, and I'm feeling way stronger and more full-body fit in just a few short weeks. I've also seen improvements in my stability and range of motion (I could hardly balance well enough to do a full squat, with or without weight when I started--I've improved so much!) and am super pleased to feel like I'm improving my athleticism instead of declining. Marissa as a coach is incredibly approachable, answers any and all questions, and has really good advice for how to improve something you're doing or tailor it more to your current skill level. The atmosphere in the Ascent Community is incredibly positive -- with the staff and all the members really pulling for each other and invested in people personally and in their fitness goals. I would recommend Ascent Fitness to anyone, whether you're a seasoned athlete looking to improve in a few key areas or a person without much workout experience trying to start some healthy habits.

I have been working with Marissa for about 5 months now. Before Marissa I used to have a 45' workout that wasn't balanced, and was very boring. Now that I'm working with her, I have 2-3 workouts a week that compliment each other, and every month she changes the workouts so I never get bored.

One of the best things about working with Marissa is that she works with your schedule and preferences. I started with Marissa while I was working full time and taking two classes. During that time, she provided short and sweet workouts that fit around my busy schedule. Later, I finished the classes and wanted some climbing gym workouts. She proceeded to provide workouts and progressions so I could achieve my new goals.

In addition to these things, Marissa is also quick to respond to the workouts you are doing. There have been times where I wasn't sure about how to do a workout, or when the weight I was using was wrong. Often times, the day after I would post a workout (on Fitbot), she would comment and help me to ensure I was getting the most out of my exercises.

And, lastly, Marissa has and continues to work very hard to help other people improve their health and fitness. I have had an awesome time working with Marissa, and I strongly recommend checking her new gym out!

*Once the gym opens, I'll add details of that experience as well.
