Great gym. Glad I switched from SBP. Cleaner and slightly less expensive. Plus top rope!

THREATENED while I was on the wall. I’m speechless.

Tonight near closing time, while I was almost at the anchor finishing a top-rope climb, a staff member named Levi approached my belayer and said: “Your climber needs to be lowered immediately.
The moment she finishes, I’m canceling your cards.”

My friend, shocked by the attitude, yet still responded politely that she needed to get my attention first and communicate before lowering me for SAFETY. He shot back: “Then you better yell now.” Before I could even figure out what they were talking about, as my right hand touched the finish, he repeated: “You two’s cards need to be canceled. After your climbing, don’t use the restroom, don’t access the facility. come to the front desk directly.”

Yes, it was near closing time, but that does not justify yelling: threatening to cancel cards, or pressuring unsafe actions while a climber is on the wall. We were in shock!!!How could any decent human being think it’s okay to communicate like this: condescending, unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful? Is this policy on your website? Has it ever been communicated to us?

What’s even more ridiculous is: a similar situation happened here two months ago. I left a review, the owner replied that the feedback was shared with the team, and yet here we are again. I’m speechless. This is not how you treat your community.

I just started climbing and this gym is really easy going. It is also extremely friendly to beginners and veterans alike.

I would say that front desk staff should be more attentive to entering customers, but other than that they are very accommodating once greeted and talking.

been a member for six months now. Almost every time we would see someone climbing with outside shoes or children wearing the rental climbing shoes into the toilet. The staff said it’s not against any rules to wear outside shoes. but it is very uncomfortable knowing the routes are climbed with shoes that could very well been touching the toilet floor. Plus this gym does not offer rental shoes for free even for gym members, while that is not an issue for regular climbers, it is probably one important factor they tolerate people climbing without climbing shoes. All in all very disappointed and would consider switching to SBP even it is further

their wall is INFECTED and gave me a big WART…i scratched my knuckle while climbing and my finger now has a large HPV-filled wart and i have to go pay to get it removed. thanks edgeworks will not be back

thanks for the reply! i definitely got the wart from your walls! i did not use the shower or locker rooms. i scraped my finger on the WALL, not the chalk covered hold. everyone who climbs here should be aware that they can get warts from your wall!

Such a spacious and clean climbing gym! I was visiting from California and came with my friend on a Monday afternoon. I was able to do my top rope and lead belay tests quickly without waiting. Nick was very friendly. Got on some super fun routes. I wish I lived near this gym!!

I have been going here for the last 5 years. There used to be ship which the kids could climb. But I don’t know why does the V3 has such a big difference from the V2. Like I don’t get it all. But still love it.

It’s actually gigantic. Like seriously I have gotten lost over a million times before. They even made it bigger.

Edgeworks is wonderful. I primarily climb at the Bellevue location but also frequent the Tacoma location when I am in the area. The staff is warm, genuine, and incredibly knowledgeable about all things climbing. I feel like this is a second home when I am there! I never feel intimidated as a new-ish climber to ask them questions about gear, technique, or etiquette. The space is respectful of all levels, ages, and bodies. I took a lead climbing class with Zach and he was knowledgeable and approachable with all class attendees. Shawn, Jacob, Nick F., and Brad are all wonderful humans to have there on staff. They offer fitness classes and have a top-notch lifting space (I say this as a fitness professional). They also take safety and cleanliness seriously; they don't joke around about belay safety so do not think you can come in a slack off--they have staff circulating and watching closely which is what we want for safe climbing spaces.

They also walk the walk--I have not only seen employees climbing inside, but outside in local crags and in Vantage. They also know about Smith and other areas.

I take my 5 year old daughter. Though they do not have a kids area there are PLENTY of 5.5's for her to explore and we never feel like she's unwelcome, in fact, she loves the staff and snacks in the pro-shop. I am pretty strict on the safety with my daughter and I have heard staff correct other families. They are on top of it. I love it here and hope to be part of the space for years to come! They make climbing so fun.

There is no way the amount of chalk dust in the air here is remotely close to healthy. Every surface is coated. The facilities are great, but I felt like I needed to leave the building just to give my lungs a break.

Would love to see auto-belays added to this gym-- in Dallas TX, Movement Gyms has them with dual clips for extra safety. Something worth considering. :)

It would likely increase daypass purchases for people who want the safety of roped climbing but have less time to take classes, so I don't imagine it hurting the business to add them. There have been many times I wanted to bring friends that don't want the responsibility of belaying another person or are fearful of doing so.

We love climbing here and appreciate the great routesetting!

First time visiting the gym. The route setting is pretty good--hard and fun. But I didn't have a nice experience at the end. The management training needs improvement to say the least. You don't just make random rules only to force the nice people to leave first--if you are closing the gym early, let us know beforehand (more than "announced multiple times" over the speaker)
I was not even allowed to even do the last 30 seconds of cool down boulder problem at 9:41, while there were tens of people climbing in the other rooms 5 minutes later.....
I will still come back since this is the only gym with rope climbing in the area, but this is my honest feedback based on the first visit.

Great climbing gym. The routes get changed on a nearly constant rotating basis so there's usually something new to climb, and there's a good mix of lead and top rope plus a bunch of bouldering. I'm old school, coming from trad climbing in the Sierras- so I think some of the ratings are a bit optimistic, but that's often how gyms are.

There's a good bunch of climbing-specific conditioning equipment upstairs and a small full weights and cardio section, too.

Anyway, great gym!

Love this gym!
It’s a great place to hand out with friends with similar interests. Especially when it’s raining.
We have been climbing for 2 years now. Every months they put on new routes, it’s sometime fun to climb something you don’t know the grade of.
Sauna after the climb is a great addition. There are water stations to refill your bottle, and a working/meeting space if have to finish some online work.

Unlike the Seattle Edgeworks, this location has an extensive top-rope area. It also still has a huge bouldering area. However, I think the routes at this gym are a lot harder than at the other locations, so you have to pad your expectations a little bit when you're approaching a climb.

I've been going here once per week for the last 18 or so months. My group and I are mostly casual roped climbers at around a 5.10+ level. Since we only go once per week there are always new routes to climb meaning we never get bored.

The gym has two areas with roped climbing, two areas for bouldering, a small gym with weights and a balcony with some nifty climbing walls that can connect to an app for custom routes. A few sections are dedicated to lead climbing with no top ropes on the routes. They also do yoga / fitness classes most days of the week.

Although it is regularly busy on weeknights, I've never been in a situation where I've had to wait to climb. The people climbing here are generally cool and I've never had a bad experience with another climber, although I never leave the roper areas.

I've taken a few classes here and the instructors were great. They know their stuff and are passionate about climbing. As a member, I don't really speak to the other staff much, as I just swipe in when I arrive. A few times when talking to staff they have been a little sarcastic or snarky, which is disappointing as a member who is part of a group that comes here weekly.

(Note, my photo was taken on a very quiet Sunday. The weekends are much quieter here!)

I've been a member here for 3 yrs because the facility itself is solid but the overall quality of the gym has noticeably declined in several aspects.

Staff Attitude:
I’ve encountered multiple staff members who communicate rules in a CONDESCENDING or DISMISSIVE tone.
There was one time I was taking a controlled lead fall. I was above the last clip, on standard safe slack, with no large holds or volumes below me within or beyond the fall zone. A staff member approached my partner and told him he was giving too much slack. My partner is ~30lbs heavier than me, and with the last clip around my knee, any less slack would’ve resulted in a hard catch and likely an ankle injury. My partner calmly explained the reasoning, but the staff member didn’t listen and insisted we change what we were doing, even though it was both standard and safe. The interaction felt super dismissive and reflected a lack of understanding on the staff’s part.

Another example being I was told, “Hmm, so you're gonna come down, right?” while I was already on my descent after a wall closure announcement. It wasn’t said in a lighthearted or joking way, just with judgment.

On another occasion, I asked the front desk if they had a nail clipper, and the response I got was: “Welp, you heard me, we can’t do anything,” after being told they no longer provide it. There’s a pattern of this kind of delivery that doesn’t feel respectful or professional at all!

Policy Enforcement:
Rules are enforced INCONSISTENTLY.
At first, staff told some dog owners (including us) that dogs weren’t allowed, while allowing others to bring theirs in, even though none of the dogs were service animals. Later, they changed the policy and told me and my friends that dogs must be leashed to a person at all times. Yet I’ve frequently seen other non-service dogs tied to benches in the rope or workout areas without any human nearby. If the policy is that all dogs must be leashed to a person, why are some of us being singled out while others are not informed of this rule or are allowed to disregard it without consequence? The inconsistency is frustrating and unfair.

Same with kids. There are still children running around in potential fall zones with no parental supervision, and this has been a persistent issue for quite a while.

Route Setting:
The bouldering problems have become increasingly inconsistent and frustrating. I’m fine with hard or challenging climbs, but many routes are simply not sustainable or projectable. A fair number of boulders have one or two disproportionately hard moves that feel completely out of place with the rest of the climb. It's not a matter of differing styles: some V4s feel completely inaccessible while certain V5s are oddly flashable. The grading is all over the place.

Some top rope routes are super bouldery with awkward clipping stances, and I’ve seen large volumes placed right in potential fall zones at cruxes, which feels unsafe.

In a post-pandemic world, the one thing that consistently gets me out of the house is Edgeworks gym. It has everything - extensive bouldering and top rope, kilter & tension boards, yoga, pilates, weights, and cardio machines.
Visit the gym to exercise your body and mind while projecting one of the frequently changing routes - all the while engaging in friendly beta shares and blissfully chill conversations with the diverse array of other climbers. (I would give this gym five stars even if I wasn't inspired to do so by the member challenge!) 👍

I've got memberships and/or punch cards to all the local gyms, but this has become my preferred ropes gym. I used to go to VW all the time, but I like the layout and structure of Edgeworks better now. It also has bouldering which is a plus and allows me to warmup before my partner gets to the gym.

The new area is also top notch. Not to mention the training boards.

I've been coming here for a couple of years now. This gym started out great. Setting was awesome, in a more outdoor style, which I appreciated. Routes were also updated pretty regularly. Front desk staff were also nice.

Since the bel-red opening, it's gone downhill. Staff aren't trained, some are actually rude. My friend wanted to grab me for a guest pass but was told they HAD to buy a day pass in order to go get me. When I came down and complained they said that wasn't even a policy. Speaking of guest passes, the new guest pass system is super greedy and pushes away groups climbing with friends who may not have a membership. Part of my membership is having a guest pass to use.. that person shouldn't have to wait 30 calendar days to use another guest pass. It adds a lot of planning, and most of the time I end up just going to another gym so that I don't have to deal with it.

The last thing that's gone downhill is the setting. The setting is just OK now, as someone else mentioned, lots of jug ladders from v0-v2 which used to not be the case. The route setting frequency also dropped considerably. It's 02/06/25 and there is still an entire section up from late November right now. Having an entire section not get updated for over 2 months is insane.

It's been frustrating seeing the quality of the gym go downhill, benefits get taken away, and having to deal with stale routes, while prices increase.

My wife and I were in Bellevue so we decided to try this place out, but unfortunately it was a very negative experience. The bottom line is that the grading for the bouldering walls is just wildly out of step with other local places - my wife and I aren't experts by any means, but I can fairly easily get most V3s at multiple Seattle gyms and here anything V2 or above just felt impossible. But more than that, the V0s and V1s were just boring ladders. It really feels like the routes are done by people who have no interest in "easy climbs" and save all the effort for much harder ones.

This wouldn't even be so bad if I felt like the community around here was just much more advanced than we are, but in my 45 minutes here, I didn't see a single person try anything above a V3 either. Almost everyone was lining up on the same V0s and V1s, and I heard two different groups complaining about the same unreasonable difficulty. Having 80% of the wall taken up by routes that no one is doing, while the other 20% are clearly low effort filler, is not a recipe for getting people to come. I would highly encourage the ownership here to reorient how they set and grade their bouldering climbs, and until then I don't recommend it for anyone who isn't regularly getting V5 or V6 routes in other gyms.

I really enjoy the setting here, it's my favorite out of all the gyms in the greater Seattle area. I especially like the setting by Kyle, Joel, and James to name a few, though the whole team does a great job. My interactions with the staff have always been positive, and they are very receptive to feedback.

I personally feel that the gym has a great community and have found the climbers here to be quite supportive and welcoming.

The facility itself has everything that I could ask for to accommodate my climbing/training needs.

I rarely write reviews but the beginner youth climbing class at this gym was so bad I feel compelled to write a review. My kid had a minor amount of climbing experience with a little fear of heights before taking this class and came out of the class worse off and having learned nothing. Despite a multiweek class my 8 year did not learn how to belay and tie in. This was true of other kids taking the class who were told they were ready to advance but didn't even come close to having the skills to pass a belay test. My son was afraid of having kids belay him and I could see why. They were not taught properly, did not pay attention, and were poorly supervised by the adults (read teeanagers) who were supposed to be supervising the class. Sometimes they did not have enough instructors so they could only boulder. Am absolute waste of money to pay $500 for an unsafe class where the kids learn nothing and basically just bolder. A total waste of money. If you're on the excessive wait list, don't worry, unsafe expensive class that is not worth it!

I have been a member of this gym for a couple of months and most of the time I enjoy this gym. However, today I had an unpleasant encounter with Josh, one of the newer staff.

There was this one long white V3 that I didn’t see the tag for its top, so I went to the front desk and ask where the top for that route was. Josh was the only one at the front desk. He first answered usually the top is the highest hold, and then he went to the route, but didn’t find the top. There was another climber nearby that pointed out it was actually a pretty long V3, kinda like a loop that one could start climbing from either way.

And then Josh said to me: “Yeah, everybody knows that. I’ve only been here for a few weeks.”

I found his response of “everybody knows that” very offensive. He didn’t know where the top was until another climber pointed out. And if he didn’t know, he could’ve asked another staff. I didn’t know what his intention was when he said “everybody knows that”, but if I bet plenty of beginner climbers won’t know. And if asking questions gets to be laughed at, then I doubt this space is a friendly one.

The gym should train their staff better.

Ventilation is not good at all even when the gym is empty it always smells like chalk (Compared to bel-red edgeworks which is always clean even if crowded). Route grading is super inconsistent, I have seen people that can do V5/6 in this gym but they can’t do some V3/4 and I have never seen something like this happen in other gyms. This also makes the gym less beginner friendly. Overall it’s a good place to do some climbing but can improve a lot in many areas.

Staff are great. Bouldering sets in north side of the gym are consistently good, south side usually sucks.

NOT ENOUGH OVERHANG. ESPECIALLY ON ROPES. It is mostly slab bouldering.

The music is god awful. What is happening. 80s dad rock and trash. Sometime there is an ok song here and there.

It’s way too hot and the fans don’t seem to do anything. Staff are willing and able to turn on the fans when asked which is a plus. Alternatively keep it cooler. The garage door could be opened in fall or spring.

Needs fans near the boards. Will help a lot with keeping at least hands cool. There are power outlets for them.

Need more bands at the hangboards. There are like 2.

EDIT - response to owner response:
Yes, climbers have some responsibility to promote a safe climbing environment by adhering to rules. And maybe occasionally remind other climbers of etiquette.

But we observed violations persistently, in all bouldering areas. The gym CANNOT expect a paying visitor to police the entire gym. Clearly, there's a bigger problem than a climber here or there that forgets the rules. The video orientation with a tablet and headphones is a bad system. The signage and handouts are ineffective. People are either not paying attention to them, or they're disregarding them.

Also, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the owner is using their response as an opportunity to promote their new gym and talk about how "thorough" their youth policy is. Thorough or not, it doesn't matter if parents don't follow it.

--

There needs to be a staff member enforcing safety and etiquette rules.

We visited on a busy Sunday afternoon. The boulder areas were extremely crowded, which would be tolerable if people followed the rules.

There were parents letting their children climb boulders that clearly overlap with routes that other climbers are already doing. Then they spend 10-15 minutes blocking a good portion of the wall while they record their children climbing horizontally without even following the routes. This activity would be much better suited to a kids climbing area.

It wasn't only children; there were adults and kids alike climbing right next to someone already on the wall. And sitting within the fall zone. The worst thing was that someone left a giant metal water bottle in the fall zone, and my partner fell onto it on their back. When a day pass costs $31, we expect better.

Keep in mind, the gym is ~40% boulder, 40% top rope, 20% lead. Boulder seems way more popular. There were easily 4x the people bouldering compared to lead and top rope combined. I would consider returning just for top rope.

This gym is like our second home! It's where we started our addiction and love for climbing back in April 2024. The employees are all very friendly, as well as the climbers who frequent this place. There are plenty of roped routes for both top rope and lead. The boulder problems are pretty solid. The yoga classes are very therapeutic and efficient. The climbing classes are very thorough and the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and make climbing fun! There is a full weight lifting area with all kinds of free weights, benches, barbells, etc, as well as a hand full of treadmills and hangboards. I like that a membership offers the option to use all 4 of their gyms in the region(Tacoma, ballard, Bellevue, the 4th newest location bel-red boulders). It can get pretty busy in here during rush hour but that's not too bad cause their new bouldering location is just 5 mins away. Join the edgeworks family, you won't regret it!

I've probably been to close to 100 gyms and this is one of my favorites - I'm very lucky to be able to go regularly.

The gym stays clean without feeling "corporate", the crowd and staff are always incredibly friendly, and most importantly, the setting is excellent!

I understand that some folks consider the grading a little bit "stiff" compared to other gyms (aka a V3 here might be a V4 or V5 at another gym) but it's all relative and it certainly doesn't detract from the accessibility and intrigue of the entry-level climbs. There is something for every climber!

Look for the sport routes set by Jess. They are THE BEST.

I’ve been coming here for over a decade and it’s consistently my favorite bouldering gym in the greater Seattle metro area. The route setting is consistent and frequent enough to keep it interesting. The expansion to include a bigger work out room and the climbing boards are both big assets. I also appreciate the topography of the climbing walls in that there is a little bit everything, overhung, techy slab, and more. Keep up the good work!

The gym is actually pretty nice but the place is lawless. There were constantly people under my landing zone while I was climbing. One particular climb, I had fallen on someones 1 liter hydroflask water bottle and it hurt so bad. Who would throw there water bottle on mat let alone in someone's landing zone. While the gym was nice, the bouldering section was just too lawless. Stick to top rope and lead if you want to come to edgeworks because the staff don't care.

I have never experienced this type of discrimination before and I hope by detailing our experience here, nobody else has to.
Came with a child who wanted to meet her best friend to go climbing. At no point was a pathway to being able to attend this gym given. No solutions were provided as responses to our questions, and we were treated as if we didn’t belong there the entire time for reasons unclear to us.

From the moment we walked to the check-in desk, we asked how to check-in and rather than answer this or any of our questions as to how to access the facility, Beth was quick to announce we could not participate in just a one day pass (a question we hadn’t even known to ask). We asked how we could participate, to which she then voiced that one of our group adults needs to take a belay test. The father of the other child- a regular here for many years and already certified belayer- offered to do it but asked Beth first if she could look him up in their system as he has been here many times before. To this, Beth asked how recently and when he could not recall the specific date she said something to the effect that if he couldn’t remember, he will have to pass the test again. He asked one more time politely as it turns out the real rule is if a member passes a belay test within the year, and he was sure he did, it does not require repeat. She again denied him. Beth proceeded to administer the belay test while myself and my child signed waivers for the day at her suggestion. Not surprisingly, my friend was told he failed the test by Beth. My friend came to tell me this news on the other side of the gym where I was walking with both of our children by this point, and Beth chased us down to the other side to once again speak at us saying we cannot enter that area unless we signed waivers (without even attempting to verify we already did). I tried to voice my disappointment in feeling discriminated against as surely my friend who already paid for entry and has been here several times, someone whose first language is not English and is trying to follow all these confusing rules, and Beth just kept unapologetically talking at us without trying to help or ever making clear what we did wrong.

Ps. The gym charged my friend anyway after declining him entry.

Good gym for climbing all around but the staff suck. I’ve never felt so un-welcomed in any kind of gym in my life. The guy who I think might be one of the managers there (skinny with long hair) has been condescending every time I’ve spoken to him. It’s important to treat people with kindness and respect in general so I was surprised to see it wasn’t a value he held as an employee of an establishment. Not to mention they’re horribly unhelpful when it comes to problem solving (won’t be specific in order to maintain anonymous status). Whoever is in charge of the employees at this gym should consider finding new recruitments because for such a well built climbing gym, the employees ruin it.

The walls are good, the prices decent, but I have several present concerns:

1) The anchors in the new area are poorly designed and can (and have) easily frayed the ropes when someone was lowering. It doesn't convey much faith in the new owners that they installed anchors that look to have been designed by someone who's never top roped. I certainly hope they fix that soon.

2) The gym seems to be hostile towards young children. I understand that the pirate ship was unsafe and I heard people were breaking things regularly in that area (especially given how some kids were unsupervised). Now, however, we have nothing but 5.5 routes and VB's? The website seems to say that kids are welcome but there isn't a reduced rate youth day pass and the free age with a membership is 3, which you're lucky if your kid is large enough to physically climb the routes. Thus your realistic choice is to drop $24 (plus gear) to see if your kid is even interested.

If you have a young kid I'd recommend you go to a gym that supports children like Vertical World in Lynnwood.

Great climbing gym! Definitely crowded, but hoping the new BRB location will thin the crowd somewhat. Only minor complaint is there are times I end up halfway up the wall and a child starts up below me, stands in the fall zone, or runs below me. It doesn’t happen often so I didn’t want to lower my rating, but it would be horrific to fall on a child and I worry about it any time I see a kid who doesn’t appear to have an adult watching them at all times or within arms reach. I know that reality is not always going to be 100% in line with the written policy (which I do believe to be sufficient) so I’m not sure what could be done specifically about this issue.

I'm really sad to see the direction this gym has gone. It used to have a lovely children's area where I loved to play with my friend's kids, and hoped to someday teach my future kids climbing. They expanded the gym, removing the kids area. It is a nice gym in the sense that there are lots of well set routes, and the new bathrooms and spacious, but I would have rather just kept the gym the way that it was. I guess when I have kids I will have to see if there is a better gym for families. A lot of the beloved staff seems to have left. The old gym felt like a second home to me, and this one feels very much like a business. Maybe over time I will grow to like it more. And it is nice that it isn't as crowded since the expansion. But I would have rather they built more gyms rather than rip this one apart and remove the children's area.

Great gym! Challenging climbs, clean facility, and expansion is nearly complete so I’m really looking forward to the improved workout area and boards for additional fitness. Gym manager Brad is a really cool guy, always engaging with members, listening to feedback and trying hard to make the environment as welcoming as possible for all climbers. Side note to day pass parents: please put down your phones and WATCH YOUR KIDS. This is a welcoming community but when your kids are running under climbers and putting everyone’s safety at risk, you have no right to complain about this gym being hostile towards children.

Gotten used to the harder grading of the boulders, but not to the attitude of staff. Was belaying my friend when staff came over saying that he was under another climber (the other climber was in the middle towards the top while he was 3 feet off the floor, the routes overlap each other in some places but mostly separate from each other and all of us were on top rope).

My friend lets go and waits on the rope for the other climber to finish but the staff says he has to come down even though he is more than arms length reach from the rope the other climber was on. We can see that it’s quite impossible for the other climber to ever hit my friend unless they swing wildly side to side while lowering. The ropes were far apart and don’t overlap each other.

I let my friend down and when he got down she said that she’ll revoke our gym passes if we ever did it again which was very uncalled for. In my eyes and the eyes of the belayer of the other climber, there was no safety issue whatsoever. In fact it was my friend who went on the route first and let the other climber go first during his climb and only when the other climber was far away did he continue. Maybe the staff thought that was too dangerous but we still followed directions and waited.

What I don’t understand is why threaten us and smugly say “it’s in the instructional video” when I’ve seen dozens of other climbers wait for each other on the rope for routes that overlap each other. We followed directions even though I didn’t agree with the staff’s judgement but was faced with attitude and threats. I would understand if it’s an immediate danger if my friend was directly underneath the other climber and they were on lead or was lowering but that’s not the case. In any case, we respect the staff’s judgement but not their attitude nor their threats. It’s a shame too that all the other staff are nice and friendly, just this one person had to ruin the experience.

This gym is close to me so I still go all of the time, but I honestly can't recommend Edgeworks until they finish the Crossroads gym redesign and open up BelRed boulders. It is WAY too crowded.

Don't get me wrong...wonderful staff and people, but...

The membership experience has gotten worse during these improvements, yet pricing has remained the same. Less bouldering, no workout spaces, temporary outdoor bathrooms, more crowds, etc.

More concerning though is...there seem to be fewer resets. Route setting quality (at least for bouldering) has gone way down. They just don't seem to be re-setting as often, and when they do there just are not enough routes. If you go 2x a week, you'll get bored really easily.

Management needs to step it up big time.

Giving 2 stars instead of one because they do have good walls. Why bad review -
somehow never felt welcome there. Always got there me an attitude like they are doing me a favor by checking me in. But I did not care too much - I was coming there for walls and also to take our kids to improve their climbing skills. now they tore down kids area completely and suggested to use same walls. I assume they are not aware of height difference. Based on their rules and how they are expressed them it is clear that kids are not welcome. Mostly I am upset that I still have a lot of visits on my punch card and no desire to ever come there again.
If you have kids - poplar bouldering gym and vertical world in Lynnwood are amazing. I really miss vertical world in Redmond.

I don't think this gym is super beginner friendly - I saw a few new people and there were only 4-5 climbs they could even try. I liked the gym for the most part but they don't have chalk rentals so I had to buy chalk (?) and the front desk person asked me if I knew chalk goes inside a chalk bag which was odd. It's also quite expensive for what it is - same price for a day pass + shoe rental as gyms I've been to in Manhattan - around $40.

I do think it's set a little difficult but it's still fun. I liked that they labeled the new routes as being new. Also the bathrooms are in a trailer right now but that's because of construction/renovations so hopefully that's done soon.

Gym is okay but the employees lack the friendly welcoming vibe that VW has. VW learns your name and interacts with you. If you forgot your harness/shoes and you’re a frequent member it’s often no problem to borrow one of the gym’s. There’s a reason why VW gym’s get a better rating. Edgeworks always feels like all they care about is money and lots of rules, they are not about to waste any time trying to be friendly with their customers. Many of their routes lack creativity and it is an incredibly dusty gym (even before construction).

Yea, great. Thanks for all the safety info… so helpful. My “vibe” from the new management is that you are there to maximize profit, period - I 100 % agree with other reviews that say the same thing. My kid has been climbing there since he could walk (~2016), so we are well aware of gym rules (no running, etc) and adhere to them and I’ve been an avid mountaineer and rock climber since 2000. My kid asked me to post this review. He left Edgeworks in tears last time we went because he is sad that a place he has known and enjoyed his whole life now feels unwelcoming. In his words, through some tears

Never bothered to wave at the 5+ people clearly waiting in a line at the door. And even when we were helped he had an annoyed tone. Unfortunate!

I've been climbing here since it first opened as the Stone Gardens expansion. It's a decent gym in a great location, but I'm not sure about the Edgeworks management. They've made a pile of changes. A few are pretty good, like the crack down on people wearing their climbing shoes into the bathroom stalls. But in some major ways the climbing has been trending worse. They've made it so you can't follow on lead even when both people are lead certified and it seems like their route setters just keep churning.

Climbing aside, I suspect their solution for employee desk space while they remodel the office has been to put some of them behind the walls?! Peak over the north bouldering wall when you're climbing in the Orb area and you can see people set up beyond the wall. I'm pretty surprised that kind of egress situation is within the fire code.

Below 1 STAR. Very poor written and verbal communication and even more unhelpful.

Less than 1% of my reviews are this low. These guys/gals certainly earned it. Read on and see why.

We walk in and this place is under construction with loud tools and no safety areas marked off. No posting or other warnings. Very poorly staffed and dust in most areas. There were other problems.

No prices or information posted anywhere. This part is important because now as new guests, we are totally reliant on the staff to walk us through the process and be helpful. Nope. Buyer beware or user beware should be the moniker.

We asked for a day pass to use the entire facility; but only after paying and not handed equipment did we ask for harness to climb. In fact everyone walking in has to give them your personal information even if you’re not using the equipment. We found this out only after our adult son was not allowed to have us watch him.

Moreover, the staff member said we could only be in certain areas and our son wasn’t allowed to climb on 2/3 of the equipment because we are not qualified and we need to be certified. No staff members were available. Reminder that not one sign was posted on any of this and we are relying on the staff to be helpful. It gets worse.

He pointed to only one part of the gym and said, you are limited to that area. After climbing a wall twice our son said he didn’t have any grip. He saw people wearing climbing shoes and we asked for a pair to borrow, only then did we find out that too was an extra cost. Again no signs explaining costs, rules or instructions in visible areas of the facility.

Oh yeah…no refunds.

There are clearly better options out there

The gym has great potential but ultimately feels lacking in many regards. My main two frustrations are the gym prices feeling to high and the boulding gym feeling to hard. I constantly see and do beginner level problems and think there is no way a beginner could do this. I also think there should be more down climbing hold, especially since beginers are afraid of climbing all the way up the wall. Aside from the bouldering gym and price I think the rope gym is quite good. Routes feel accurate to the grade and well thought out. This wouldn't be such a problem if most of the gym was mostly rope but its not. It would also be nice if the gym provided auto blocking devices and there was auto belay especially for thr price. Auto blocking devices aren't that expensive and encouraging beginners to try the rope gym.

Came from out of town to boulder for an afternoon. Two gripes: the routes did not feel fun, and they felt misgraded in some places.

I’m a v4-v5 climber, so I recognize I’m not great, but know I’m in a thick area of the bell curve where a lot of others are.

I flashed every v3 I attempted, but in an entire afternoon did not top a single v4. For most I could tell what the beta was but they felt like effort-heavy moves not technically hard moves. I didn’t see a single pincher hold, and at the end of the day my hands had plenty of gas by the time my upper arms had given out. On top of that, I saw a total of 3 people in the entire gym send anything above v4 the entire day. It made it very hard to project and watch others.

The holds also felt very old and worn down. The volumes as well were almost all smooth but in an oily-smoothed-by-shoe-rubber way. They need to replace at least half of them. Many of the starting move holds were so chalk caked and smoothed out from hand oil I didn’t even try to get on.

Just over all not a fun day for somebody in my skill set.

I went with 3 other people and bought day passes and shoe rentals. The price came out to almost $140, which is absurd compared to other bouldering gyms I’ve been to, both in Washington and California. The worker appeared quite annoyed that we had not filled a waiver out prior and the overall attitude was quite unwelcoming. Furthermore, they fail to provide chalk so you must spend another $5 to buy chalk. This seems like a basic commodity. Save your money and go to Seattle Bouldering Project. You will find more choices for climbing, a much larger workout area, and yoga room for half the price.

I have come as a guest to this gym, I prefer it much less to other bouldering gyms in the area. They did not have hand towels for me to use, which I really needed since I sweat so excessively. It caused me to have safety concerns while climbing and feel uncomfortable in their gym due to my excess sweat on face/arms/hands. They also did not have guest chalk to use, which seems very unwelcoming to new climbers. Additionally, I felt like their routes were not set up very well. I felt like I had to either be tall, or do dynamic movement on the boulder paths and it felt very unsafe because of how they had the routes setup. Would recommend checking out other bouldering places besides this one.

I’m fortunate to have been all over the country and tried lots of different climbing gyms. I’ve been at Edgeworks for over a year now and this gym is pretty meh. I climb here because of friends and because it’s the least painful drive for indoor climbing in the area. First gripe, the staff is hit or miss. 1 out of 4 staff members might acknowledge your existence 👋🏽 when you come and go. And some are quite rude if you accidentally infringe upon their not so obvious instructional activity, and they’ll abruptly let you know if you do. Sorry my guests don’t know all the climbing etiquette on day one, we’re just focusing on the climbing being safe and enjoyable for them. Last gripe, and super annoying, they only offer one-year-long memberships on a single day of the year. Maybe they should offer that membership for a month or more a year, so folks can switch over? Maybe find a way to reward $$ repeat and lifelong customers for their commitment? Maybe offer a discounted Day Time membership (6am-3pm and or M-F) with a drop in discount for time access outside of that? Management ought to look around a bit more because plenty of gyms do a much better job of keeping their customers happy. Also, the climbing classes I have taken at Edgeworks Bellevue have been very informative and the instructors were top notch, so keep that up! Cheers!

I have friends that have used the gym a lot when it was stone gardens and since the change over they dislike the difference in management as well and will not be renewing any of our memberships. This climbing gym is very solid, with a variety of routes and a quite nice weightlifting area. However, I have a couple of concerns:

1. The crowds can be very hectic. Going here early in the morning or later at night is generally better.

2. Compared to other gyms, climbing gyms, and public exercise facilities I have been to, this one does not feel as "inviting" as others, especially for beginners. It seems like people have well-established groups that might be hard for a beginner to join.

I think the front desk could be a bit more energetic, and also give some initial guidance of how to start, such as tips, tricks, and gear.

Went in today to climb with my two boys as we have done 6 times over the summer. They change the bouldering routes frequently, and always have a variety of easy ones for us. It's not very crowded, and is a typically pretty chill and very enjoyable. Today though our experience was different. The two employees at the counter really didn't want interact with customers at all. When I was finally able to ask for a refill of a punch card, she dismissively sent me off to an iPad to fill out paperwork I hald already filled out. Then I had to fill out another form with the same information. Which I had also already filled out. I asked if this was all really necessary since I had already done it, and she said rudely that I had to re-enter all that information every time. For every person in my party. How many times do you really think I want to enter my information on an iPad without automcomplete? Especially when all that data is already in your system. I gave up on the third time I had to enter my physical address (why do you even need that?!) - before I even got to the other pass holders. I came to climb not to enter forms on someone else's iPad. Next time I'll go to Vertical World/SBP if I want to climb or an Apple Store if I want to play with someone else's grimy iPad on a stand. This employee's behavior was enough for me to decide to take my business elsewhere despite actually liking the facility itself.

All of this right in front of staff member #1 who gave her the okay to begin with and then just smiled and nodded. I understand your policy about customers teaching each other but make sure they’re actually teaching each other before just assuming wasting their time and money. It would have also been nice of staff member #1 to speak up instead of just nodding and smiling as we get our belay test privileges revoked for something he told us to do.

I really do not like the setting at this gym. Most boulders have no alternative beta for short people and the when it does exist it is often quite dangerous (bad foot hold directly over a volume at the top of the wall, etc). Also, the lead grading especially is wildly inconsistent. I've decided to end my membership here, as I have had more fun in the past as a member of a different gym in the area.

Smells really bad as if you are inside a huge climbing shoe!
