My favorite climbing gym in Seattle! It's best for bouldering but they have a decent-sized rope area as well. There's also a small weight room with some weights and a few machines.

Within the three edgeworks I have gone to (bellevue, belred, here!), this is my favorite gym.
There are lots of choices like bouldering, top rope, outside wall, and a sideways top rope OH AND THE TOP ROPE IS ALSO ON THE CEILING LIKE THATS SO COOL NEVER TRIED IT YET CUZ ITS LEAD!!!!!!
THERES LIKE NO PEOPLE USUALLY NEVER CROWDED and so it is the best climbing gym I have gone to (its like weirdly cozy?? Feels like home lol)
Also has a fitness area thatβs super nice.
Pretty small though

This is not the largest climbing gym in Seattle, yet it literally has everything: vertical, slab, overhang, roof, arete, dihedral, crack, top-rope, lead, and even an outdoor wall! You name it, they have it - I truly appreciate that they have such a diverse collection of terrains. I particularly enjoy that they have many roof problems, which is not common in other gyms. The walls in the roped area tend to be shorter than some other gyms', but that means they are more beginner-friendly, as they ask for less stamina. But for those who want to build on their stamina, the outdoor wall is much higher and offers great views and fresh air.

Climb here about 3 times a week. The walls change up every month or so, so it keeps everything fresh! The community is super friendly and supportive. There's always a new route to climb or a problem that takes time to solve!

really enjoyed this gym! plenty of V0-V2's for beginner routes that were challenging but do-able. lots of bouldering areas including one upstairs. i would say about half the gym was dedicated to bouldering areas and the other half to top rope, so it made the gym feel worth it if you only did one or the other. staff was also friendly!

The club is dishonest. It hosted a community climbing event today 11/23/24 and the judge of a successful top was appealed. Which was upheld. The only evidence the judge had of the appeal was video I had taken of the climber. It had earlier judged the sand climb that was topped - with a much lesser hold time, yet that judgeβs personal assessment was to overrule the appeal of that climb. So it used video for one appeal and not of another to determine a result. A result that put the (youth) climber out of the top five finalists. So much for its βfun, community eventβ. Its judges were compromised l, its process is flawed, it had no rule book to follow and it cost a youth climber a spot to compete to win the event.
Donβt use this club, it cannot be trusted - itβs a bloated, clueless corporation that puts itself first and runs dishonest events!

Love the 50/50 hybrid combination of top roping and bouldering. This is great for groups where some people are split on what type to do. My review is primarily for bouldering.
Having climbed at SBP for 2 years, I think the route setting here at edgeworks is actually more technically challenging in the best ways. Routes feel a little scarier but I feel like I'm progressing way more here than at SBP. It did take me a few visits to come to this conclusion.
Sounds like top roping here is good for beginners, but if you're only getting into bouldering and want a variety of easier routes to build basic confidence, maybe start with SBP!
Other things to note:
- The upstairs bouldering is a really unique space. Short and highly technical walls so falling is not as scary.
- This gym seems to have cleaner air quality than SBP Fremont! Hope it stays that way.
- Staff and community seem equally friendly, and this location is nowhere near as packed as SBP or Vertical World on weeknights.

We've gone a couple of times now and love it. Even though it's a tad smaller than other gyms I've been to over the years, there's a great selection of challenging routes, a good balance between sport, lead, and bouldering, and some longer routes outside when the weather's nice!
Right in the heart of Ballard, it makes for a great start to your day before going for a meal, walk, shopping, or other activity in the neighborhood.
They offer a variety of climbing classes for all skill levels, including for those looking to take it outside on the rock. I'm definitely interested in signing up for classes and continuing to visit this gym regularly!

Pretty solid climbing gym with some really good, tough sets! Only thing with the older part of the bouldering area is that itβs definitely a bit cramped. Sometimes when I was trying to avoid being in the way of someone on the wall, I had to balance not being in the way of someone on the opposite wall. A little cramped on the bouldering side of things, but otherwise a neat gym!

Not my favorite gym in the area because I'm not a huge fan of bouldering, and the indoor top roping area feels a little crowded, and I didn't like the routes very much. It just wasn't my style of climbing. I also did not like the lack of auto belays. Sometimes I want minimal setup, or I don't have a belayer, and would like to just hook and go.
However, I would come back to this location for the outdoor wall. That is a really dope amenity that you don't see at other gyms. Overall, just an okay gym with a really cool addition that makes it stand out.

Iβve been climbing here almost my whole life. What stands out to me the most is how incredible, helpful, and kind the staff are. This gym also has unique route design, friendly atmosphere, even great music choice! I have made so many friends here and it has really inspired my climbing and driven me to push myself. The gym membership, while expensive, allows you to rent shoes and a harness with no extra cost and climb whenever you please. I deeply encourage you to consider this as one of your top options should you choose to go climbing!

Very cool gym! In love with the roped slab routes, it is not common to find much slab on the ropes. The outdoor wall is fun but the grades felt very stiff. Not sure what is up with the upstairs bouldering section, but it felt very easily graded. Seems like the grades are a bit all over in general. The walls here have some very unique contours that I bet you haven't seen before. Check out edgeworks Seattle for a great time!

We were visiting from out of town and my teenagers wanted something to do. Edgeworks didn't require a membership or experience to do bouldering, and they had shoes available to rent. They do offer instruction on certain days, and they also offer classes, but nothing coincided with our trip. So they couldn't belay, but they could do bouldering. We got a day pass and they gave us instructions on how to use the walls. My kids climbed for almost 2 hours and had a blast, even with the blisters! We will definitely come back next time we're in town, hopefully we can make it to one of their classes.

I've been climbing here for ~3 years. I like this gym and the variety it offers, the staff is super friendly, routes are challenging, nice community, lots to climb, and the outdoor area is great. 4/5 stars though because this is an old gym with some old gym problems - restrooms were often broken and some freshening up of the gym could be useful (e.g. workout area) - but I really appreciate seeing Edgeworks folks steadily working on improving things. Last time I went (in May) they had done a couple of weird changes though which I hope will be reverted back (rope area storage shelves formed in a tower + the clock to check time had been replaced by a TV... Who comes to the gym to watch TV?π)

I donβt typically leave reviews, but seeing a two star review for my favorite climbing gym in Seattle left me feeling a bit irritated. To each their own. The routes are challenging and fun, the staff is super friendly and theyβve done a great job with updating the gym in the recent years and keeping it super clean. No one will probably ever read this because I suspect the algorithm pushes incessant reviewers with negative reviews to the top of the google reviews list. Anyway, for what my opinion is worth (very little) this gym is great. Appreciate the hard work edgeworks team. Iβm sure you donβt hear it enough.

Mike, new Owner of Edgeworks Climbing Seattle, just demonstrated superb customer care in addressing an account issue. His staff at the Ballard gym gave his email address freely. He was quick to respond to a help request, and was thoughtful, flexible and understanding. He exemplified fair and creative individualized customer-valuing service. Our kids have enjoyed bouldering at this site throughout their childhoods, always finding friendly and helpful staff at the desk. The group I visited this climbing gym with unanimously agreed that it has sub-average route design. I had a decent time and the rope climbing is clearly the highlight here, but between the bad routes and generally worn down atmosphere of the place, it's undoubtedly my least favorite climbing gym in the greater Seattle area. There are also many routes that are unmarked and randomly end halfway up the wall without any final hold labeling. I get the impression at this place is poorly managed.

It was a great gym until autobelay and campus board were removed. Now if you want to train you either go to Vertical World (which has much more climbing and lead, and decent gym), or SPB Freemont which has an amazing gym. The only reason to go to SG would be to get variety if you've climbed everything in the other 2 gyms, or if you live super-close (but then the other 2 gyms are at 10 minute cycle)

If you're parking in the back of the building, park safely. There were some shady folks hanging out. Don't know if it's a common thing but then again, that's downtown living for ya. Otherwise, inside they have lots of top rope and lead routes, boulderimg routes, all pretty well set. Not as tall as the ones in Bellevue and some of the bouldeing routes were about 2 months old so I don't know how often they reset the routes.
