Fun place. They did get rid of the self-belay. Was quite expensive for day drop in. Around $55 for a child and adult with only 1 shoe rental. They should have a 2 hr drop in time for bouldering in the morning when it is less crowded and cut the price, so it is more affordable for drop ins. It is pretty obvious most of the people in there are pay for the yearly, as that seems like a reasonable price

Good-sized with multiple difficulty levels available. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Fair amount of parking but quite difficult to find a spot during peak times, and the spaces are pretty narrow, but because it's shared with other businesses that's not on Edgeworks. Fun events offered periodically, which is a nice bonus. It's earned its popularity.

New to the area and just came to the gym to walk around and see if itβd be a good fit for me. Cameron went above and beyond and made me feel welcomed. Ended up getting a day pass, and got to climb for a bit. Had some really fun and creative sets, will definitely be back!

6 weeks in a row, yoga classes have been cancelled without a solid reason. When I expressed my frustration, I was told that "well, you can climb right?!" Seriously?! I want my money and time back.

They have a decent variety if you are certified to belay. When my son and I arrived some of the trained staff were helping another child about 9 years old to rock climbing while the staff managed belay as mom was not certified. When I requested their help for my son to do the same, they said I had to be certified and declined helping me. I will never come back to this place, the key to good customer service is provided equal service to all patrons.

Just moved to the area and wanted to check out the local climbing gym. Got a day pass and did a little bouldering, but wanted to check out the yoga class before I got a membership or a punch card.
I signed up for yoga, then got a call saying the instructor was sick and not coming not so yoga was canceled. I asked about a refund or at least a free class since I'm burning my day pass. I was told they couldn't do this.
This leaves a sour taste that makes me hesitant to go back.

2025 update: still an amazing gym. Still a regular member. Covid restrictions are over obviously and operation is back to normal. The variety and quality of the setting is great.
2025 Shower Review: I have visited and reviewed a lot of showers and plan to continue this as we travel. As a vanlifer it helps me keep track of which showers are nice and which ones are not. I can only speak to the womenβs showers but the showers at this Edgeworks are pretty nice. The changing room and shower share a stall and there is a door that locks! There are 2 shower/changing stalls, one accessible stall and one that does not have specific accessibility features. As I said the door to the stall locks, and there is a curtain on the shower to contain the water. I used the one without accessibility features so that is the one I will describe. There is a stool in the changing part of the stall and 2 hooks to hang your towel, clothes, whatever. The shower has 2 small shelves and feels like an apartment shower unit (it might be a shower unit intended for an apartment). The water gets hot quickly and has good pressure. Honestly, it is a 5 star shower experience. Especially compared to the shower setups common at a popular purple gym. The only downside is the showers are in the same room as the bathroom stalls, which is usually fine but could pose a problem if someone is having a bad digestion day at the same time as your shower. There also are no gender neutral showersβ¦ there are gender neutral bathrooms but not showers. 10/10 would shower again.
2020ish review: Variety of climbs and walls to meet whatever climbing goals you have. (Bouldering, Top Rope, Lead, Auto Belay, 30ft and 45ft walls, clacks, slabs, and overhangs) They also have a small section of cardio and weight equipment, friendly staff, and an electronic bouldering board. Currently you need a reservation due to COVID and must wear a mask. Employees clean frequently to keep everything safe!

This place keeps me sane when I'm unable to climb outside due to weather, time restraint, etc. I use the hang boards to bruise my ego even further because doing what makes you uncomfortable makes you a better climber. Sometimes the staff looks like someone spit in their cornflakes, but so do I, and this doesn't detour me. They're all awesome. Happy climbing!

This place is absolutely amazing.
From the outside it is unassuming and youβd have no idea such an adventure awaits inside.
The staff are phenomenal. We hired one of the staff assist us belaying for the kids and they had the time of their lives and conquered some scary fears in a safe environment. He was amazing and inspiring and not pushy with the kids. He may have just sparked a new hobby for the whole family.
The kids were exhausted after an hour of bouldering and an hour of belaying which is all a mom could ask for!

Highly dissatisfied in the fact they don't have Straight climb night vs Queer climb nights. Also they don't honor Veterns day, Memorial day or Armed forces day with any specials for Veterns. What these places fail to notice is most of the climbers who come here are Straight and these are the people they should focus on

An ok gym. I only bouldered so this isnβt a route review although it is disappointing that there are no auto belays. The set boulders arenβt very good and it seems that they mainly use the same holds from the routes. There is a kilterboard and the training area is very well equipped. Although there is no circuit board or tread wall for off route endurance training. Friendly staff.

I recently became a member at Edgeworks after gaining a little more free time in my life...so far it's been awesome!
From day one the staff including Cameron, Mikayla, (I can't remember the others!) have been super welcoming and friendly to chat with.
The climbing options are great with lots of variety in terms of bouldering and roped climbing routes. I have zero complaints and so far have enjoyed every route I've done. Props to the setters for all their work.
The building has a nice little workspace upstairs with tables and chairs where I have been studying/working while intermittently climbing. There is also a gym downstairs with weights and misc. workout equipment if you want to squeeze a workout in as well.
Basically the place has it all and if you're wanting to try climbing either for the first time or as someone who has climbed before, this is a great place to go.
Cheers!

Why no more starting tape???
Also way too many kids, they need to open up another area or location for the classes of kids. Often times they are warming up on the lower parts of the walls or are all doing group stretching covering 3 different anchors at a time, running under climbers, 10 kids stretching under the campus board. I get it, their parents pay for them to be there, but open up a new location for child classes so the gym can feel less crowded and less like a child play land. But seriously why no more starting tape??

Really awesome climbing gym! The employees were all friendly and helpful and the gym was a pleasure to climb in! They have TONS of top rope with a good variety of grades and styles. We didn't get a chance to boulder much on our first visit, so I look forward to coming back!
Update: been going here periodically for over a year and i really love it! Routes get changed at a good frequency. Bouldering here is pretty good, but not quite as large of an area compared to the Bellevue location. Extra lifting equipment is a pleasant bonus as well. Will be taking a lead class soon and I'm super excited!

Love climbing here. They have a good range of routes for bouldering and top rope. I also signed up for personal training sessions with Alex to focus on getting back in shape after a major injury. She was great about working with me to overcome climbing related fears and tailoring an exercise program to my specific goals. She is very motivational, knowledgeable, and encouraging. She even helped me create a routine for independent sessions and still checks in with me. If you are looking to improve your climbing, book some sessions with Alex!

We popped into the gym today to learn more about it near closing time and Matt and another Male coworker (Blonde short hair) were so kind and helpful. Matt gave us a tour and got us all set for when we come back to check it out. The other staff were hard at work cleaning. The gym with workout area and yoga studio was well kept clean and looked really cool. The workers were helpful with my very inquisitive son and really welcomed us to ask more questions. Very cool experience. Thanks! We will be back to check it out again and the kid camps.

During my visit to the climbing gym on a Tuesday afternoon while I was in town for a work trip, I found it to be quite busy. I was a bit disappointed by the limited number of lower level boulder routes available. The boulder problems seemed to be graded lower than what I would normally expect (in my opinion many V4 were more like a V5 for example), and I felt that many problems lacked the creative touch and attention to detail that would make them truly enjoyable and exciting. On a positive note, the staff at the gym was fantastic, providing excellent service throughout my visit. In terms of cleanliness and maintenance, while the overall establishment was fairly well kept, I did notice a few areas that could have used some extra attention. Thank you for the experience at this location but it was less than favorable overall, based on my personal expectations.

I've been climbing here for 4 years. They have great lead, top rope, and bouldering routes. Unfortunately no auto belay routes anymore. Their work out area has great equipment for the size of it. They do monthly social events and clinics for members. Their instructors for their classes are great. They have tables that you can sit at if you want to just chill. They have a great great store and snack and drink selection. They have yoga and other classes which I hope they will increase their offerings of these to the amount and classes they had pre-pandemic. Looks fine. No autobelays. At least they let travelers get day passes after work hours,so I upped the rating but waiting on auto-belays. Obviously, I understand the fear of user error clipping into autobelay but requireing double clip in mitigates the risk. Not nearly as dangerous as driving a car.

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to climb for a while, we decided to check out Edgeworks Climbing. I am an experienced climber and have taken multiple classes. Iβve climbed outside and at different gym and locations. I am top rope certified at my home climbing gym. Although at this gym you have to get certified on an ATC, nothing wrong with that. But they DO NOT offer grigris to test on nor any other belay devices. I am experienced with a grigri not an ATC. I was willing to give this a try though, on the down side the staff sternly said I was not allowed to teach or even give a brief overview of how to climb to my boyfriend. They said they were not allowed to teach out or give info either. Weird.
So either way I taught myself, tried the test. The staff guys instructions were very unclear and Iβm hard of understanding some things. He used a certain tone when I double checked what he said and it made me feel belittled. He also was very disengaged during the test, he would tell me to do something and then walk away to talk with his coworkers. Once the test test started he continued to use unclear instructions and would yank the rope very hard without telling me his was going to, I know the were trying to make it realistic but I pinched my finger badly because of his terrible actions. Then it was time to do the take and lowering. He said take and I didnβt hear so I asked if he was ready, I never said youβre good or iβm lowering now, I started to pulling the slack and then the test was over. He then failed me because I was too slow and didnβt break fast enough and then said I was nervous and that I was freaking out. I was simply standing there keeping my composure. He said I jumbled the rope too much, the rope was in my hand the whole time just the way I was taught to hold it. He treated me like I didnβt know what I was doing. If i didnβt know what I was doing, my friends I belayed outside would be dead right now from the fall or terrible job I wouldβve hypothetically done.
I would also like to say that at any job there is a rule in the handbook of professionalism, that means that you will wear body odor repellers or at least try to mask the smell. The odor was very unpleasant for me to smell on my first time at a so called nice gym. That all being said we will NOT be coming back an the Edgeworks gym is not worth the money if you are wanting a fun day climbing. Treat your customers better guys.

I absolutely love this place. Started coming here probably about a month ago and hubby got us a family membership. First off, ALL of the staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and professional! Customer service has been exceptional and honestly exceeded my expectations. Second, this place is clean! I love the fact that they post signs outside bathrooms about not wearing climbing shoes in the bathrooms to help keep gym and holds clean! Third, theyβre constantly offering different classes and some of these classes members can attend for free. They change out their holds often too which makes it a challenge and adventurous for those of us who attend frequently. The overall atmosphere of this place is also family friendly and ranges from beginners to more advanced climbers but everyone there is respectful. Lastly, prices are totally worth it and they even offer discounts for members in the store part and pretty sure they offer military discounts on certain days as well. Oh, and once a month as members, we can bring a friend for the day for free. The only thing youβre paying for is the shoes for rental and any other equipment. Totally worth it though and thatβs how weβve managed to get two other friends to get memberships after spending a day climbing! Just come check this place out, itβs totally worth it! Edgeworks in Tacoma ROCKS!

Solid gym, amenities, and route options (however definitely a bit on the softer grading side). Itβs a bummer that they took away their auto belays due to some controversial and legal issues climbing gyms (in general) are having these days.

Me and my friends went here to celebrate a birthday and go rock climbing. We dealt with rude staff who was very unprofessional. Not all staff was rude but the one in particular was Michele, she even shouted at us from across the gym to get off the bouldering as soon as we reached the top. Another thing that we witnessed that shocked us is that she started talking about us to other guests in the gym while we were in hearing distance. If youβre looking for a nice friendly place to go, please look at other options.

This gym considers some top rope routes as bouldering routes, which feels a bit messy and unsafe as the ropes lay untied all around.
EDIT: Thanks for the response. We bought day passes for bouldering only and communicated this to staff. The orienting staff specifically suggested the top rope routes as additional bouldering routes.

They are very nice here. You need a membership or a guest pass to get in. You can rent climbing shoes or bring your own. They have beginner levels to pro, as well as a little gym with treadmills and weights. You have to wear masks here even when working out.

Edgeworks is great for top rope/lead climbing. However, the mats in their bouldering section are the worst that Iβve seen in any rock gym.
If you want to boulder here, make sure you bring a crash pad.

I was looking forward to put my son in climbing lessons and it seems this gym lacks efficiency when it comes to planning. I called on the phone and they gave me a time that could work for my son and when the day came I showed up with him and they told me he canβt join the class and the only option available is getting him private lessons and we had to leave even though he was warming up already with the other kids. It would be so much easier if they knew what they really offer but it seems theyβre not the greatest at planning and communicating.

They have restricted all 3 locations to not allow any kids under 14 to climb in their gyms, unless they are members. Not exactly sure how that is even legal to do... But even though weβve been dozens of times in the past, for some reason they say during COVID, under 14 arenβt allowed on day passes, even though thereβs been absolutely NO health guidance recommending this.

I give Edgeworks five stars because I think they've earned it.
- The staff is very friendly and accommodating while making sure you are doing things properly so as to stay safe on the wall.
- The gym also offers a great set of resources between rope climbing, bouldering, and the fitness and training equipment.
- I also think they are totally crushing the COVID response in big and little ways. They supply you with unlimited liquid chalk!! I yearn for the day I have my trusty chalk bag at my back, but until then I'll at least not be short of the second best option.
Great work team!!

This is the best place to climb in the Tacoma area. Short and tall walls, bouldering, yoga, weigh training, classes, it has it all. Staff is great and knowledgable, this is a wonderful place. They even do outdoor excursion climbs. 5 stars all day. They are even taking covid precautions seriously.

Clean facility, friendly staff. The music choices could be better. They should not close off half of the routes because of social distancing because they already control the crowds by pre registering. That or they should rotate which routes should be closed for more variety. The routes could be switched up more frequently too.

Always love this climbing gym, offering classes, fitness, top rope, bouldering and more. Also they have fantastic procedures in place right now for Covid so you can still come in and get your climb on.

I really couldn't be happier with this place. I've been climbing here for years, attended classes, gone on guided trips, I've had my kids in camps, my wife has gone to yoga classes, and work out in the weight room portion regularly. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, my kids enjoy the classes and camps, they go out of their way to give me deals on equipment, and the locker room area is clean. For those who complain about pricing - wait for the first Friday in December and buy a membership for cash for a large discount.

I have been here three times for college night. I think I maybe the weekend staff isnβt quite as helpful the regular staff. The first time I went there I was told that I was βtoo oldβ to take advantage of college night, and paid full price. The second time Was really nice. The young woman there was kind to me and my (then five year old nephew.
The third (and final time) I will go to Edgeworks was today, where none of the staff had even HEARD of college night, but then started making up rules about how I could prove that I was taking classes full time. I take classes online and donβt have an ID card
Itβs sad because this place is very close to my house, but itβs way too expensive to get treated that way. If you go to planet fitness or something you expect to get crummy customer service, but not at a place where you can rack up a 50.00 bill for an adult and a kid. I wonβt go back, and the two star rating is for the awesome lady the second time that I went.

Very friendly, welcoming place to send routes, of which there are tons!
Very good, accurate rating system in my opinion; new routes all the time that get our votes and input.
Great for both beginners and those prepping for the next big wall escapade.
Yoga also available so you can get that recovery in.
Beware of huge crowds on weekends, but patience will get you plenty of time on the wall

Wonderful facility with plenty of routes to climb. 6 auto belay, lots of top rope and a good bit of lead climb. Very family friendly and welcoming to new climbers. Rental shoes and harnesses are clean and in great shape. Visited with family from out of town. One climbed a bunch the other used the gym to keep up the fitness routine before flying back home. Looks like they have a lot of themed nights and classes so check out their website for more up to date info.

I quit my gym membership and joined Edgeworks through a friend. It was definitely hard for me to get over my fear of heights and to trust the auto belay enough to safely lower me to the ground (sometimes I still climb down), but at the same time I appreciate the challenge. Iβve been climbing here for a few months and Iβve already noticed a positive change in my energy, mood, strength, and endurance while climbing and just with my life in general. I love how they also have affordable fitness classes like yoga and pilates as well as climber classes to prepare me for the outdoors. The staff and the community itself are all very friendly and supportive, something I could never find at a gym.

I enjoy rock climbing as I want to get better at it and enjoy the complexity and art behind the sport. Coming to a rock climbing gym, at least I thought, would be a good way to meet people as I have recently moved to the area a few months ago. The feeling at Edgeworks Climbing is that of unfriendliness, aloofness, judgmental and very cliche. Some employees are nicer than others but there are a very small handful that ruin the experience enough to motivate a person to write a negative review. In general the employees are not friendly, unless they personally know an individual as I witnessed an employee say that one of their friends did not have to pay to climb for a daily pass, and the snobby clicks creates an environment that is not conducive for single individuals that want to get into the sport of rock climbing. Due to the unfriendly environment that is hanging over Edgeworks Climbing, if there was another gym that not only provided a bouldering section along with the auto relays and belays I gladly would take my business else where. The fact remains that Edgeworks Climbing is the only rock climbing gym that offers the variety as there is another gym in Tacoma but it only offers bouldering. The combination of the unfriendly environment created by several employees and some customers, I guess I will continue to climb at Edgeworks Climbing until my pass run out and evaluate if Edgeworks Climbing is a place I would still like to continue to bring my business too. Not impressed by the poor customer service.

Let me start by saying I think the concept is great. However, the staff is seriously lacking. We were checked in by a young girl with long dark hair who was completely uninterested in providing service. We were basically left on our own as first time climbers to figure out the gear, and when she walked us onto the floor she only gave us the basics of information. I was able to glean a bit more information from another host at a later point who was assisting other guests, she explained how to read the tags on the walls etc. We ended our trip with my son falling and injuring his elbow. The staff member who came over seemed more interested in what form she needed to complete instead of the well-being of my child. My friend who stayed at the facility after we left go to the hospital learned that he was on a wall that was reserved for 14 and older, something we were never told. I take responsibility for not having better eye on my child, but I feel the facility has a responsibility to provide better directions to first time climbers.
