About the Club

I'm an independent personal trainer at Odin's Strength Gym in Vancouver, Washington. I specialize in strength and hypertrophy training. I've coached clients of all ages and abilities with varying goals; from muscle-building to weight loss and everything in between. Many of my clients came to me as beginners who were unfamiliar with exercise, and I've watched them develop into experienced weightlifters. I offer a free consultation to new and existing members of Odin's Strength Gym, and will tailor a program to your specific goals. With state-of-the-art equipment and 24/7 access, Odin's is Vancouver's premier gym.

From Frail to Fearless

I’ve been working with Jake for about a year now, and he has completely changed my life. For sixteen years, I struggled with a life threatening eating disorder and severe body dysmorphia, obsessed with being as thin as possible. I barely ate, did endless cardio, and was barely functioning in society as a result of constantly feeling sick and weak. At my absolute worst, I stood 5’8” tall and weighed 103 pounds. In December of 2024 I almost lost my life and it was in that moment that I finally realized I needed to make some changes. I wanted to know what feeling strong was all about, and that’s when I found Jake.

The very first time that I met Jake, before I’d even hired him, I told him about my history and what I was hoping to accomplish through strength training. I made it clear that while I had a desire to gain muscle, I was also terrified of my body changing and I knew it would be a difficult journey for me. He met me with compassion and patience, and from there on out, we slowly started to build a foundation of trust that eventually allowed me to heal.

In the past year, I’ve gained 24 pounds of healthy muscle (and some fat, too, because my body needed a bit of fat to support muscle growth). It hasn’t been easy emotionally or psychologically, in fact some days it was downright excruciating for me, but Jake stood by me through every step of the process. Today I feel stronger, more confident, and more alive than I ever thought possible. The four days per week that I’m in the gym lifting are the days I look forward to and long for the most.

What sets Jake apart is not just his expertise, but his personality and approach. He’s incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to building muscle and designing workouts that actually deliver results, and he takes the time to explain the “why” behind what we’re doing. He also has a great sense of humor, which makes the workouts palatable on days where I want to give up on myself. He also has a gift for balance: knowing when to push me harder than I thought I could go, and when a softer, more encouraging approach is needed. He is intuitive, kind and emotionally intelligent, making him a fantastic fit for all flavors of people.

To summarize my experience, Jake is so much more than just a personal trainer. He is a coach, a supporter, a trusted confidant and someone who genuinely cares about his clients. He truly helped me rebuild my relationship with my body and with food which is a remarkable gift I never thought I’d have. If you’re looking for someone who will guide you not just physically but mentally and emotionally, Jake is the one.

Jake definitely keeps you accountable and ensures you’re staying on track not just with training, but also with your routine, nutrition, and sleep. It’s incredible to have someone who’s always checking in and making sure you’re making progress.

Jake is hands down the best trainer I've worked with. We've been working together for a year and a half. Initially, I couldn't even squat (without weight on the bar) without experiencing pain. I came in hoping to look at my form and prevent further injury. Now I'm getting close to squatting 2x my body weight. My body has never felt stronger. Jake has also helped me dial in form for deads, bench, and other movements in the gym. I've made a massive amount of progress with his support. Working with Jake has set me up to incorporate and enjoy the gym sustainably into old age. I've gotten to talk with many of his other clients as we pass each other between sessions - everyone loves him. I highly recommend Jacob Wise for your personal training. As a 46 year old mom of four, I was looking for someone to help me gain strength and build confidence working with weights.
