The staff is super nice. If you want to run on a treadmill, I would go to a different location. More than half of the treadmills don’t go faster than 5 or 6 mph. A little frustrating when you’re a runner. It’s a really old location and could also use an update.

The best part about this specific location is the integrity of its members. Countless times have I lost things and forgot things in the locker room. The members always return missing items to the lost and found from my own personal experience. The workers are also extremely professional.

All classes used to be free but seems a new trend is to start charging for some classes I find the check in staff friendly and helpful. Prices are about average. But the gym machines have mostly been there since they opened almost 20 years ago. Which is when i joined. And the wear and tear is starting to show. With them breaking down more often or just not functioning as they should. When cardio equipment breaks they just remove it and don't replace it so there are several less pieces then there was. The gym membership seems to be at all time high yet money is not being put back into the business to get more/newer machines to keep the present members happy that have been there for many years. Signing up new members and getting the debit payments seems to be the priority for the the new demographic they seem to be shooting for. The dirty bathrooms that smell like urine are issues i would hope they would look into dealing with. Along with updated equipment as other large gyms in the area have those and are a little cheaper it seems.

So I am comparing this to the LA Fitness in Auburn. This federal way location has a kids center, smoother bar, basketball court. I didn't look for pool or sauna on this visit. I also did not check the bathrooms. I was not satisfied with no proper water bottle fill up as it was "broken" as I was told by another member. The machines all looked unsanitary but it did have a second floor for treadmills. The parking lot was crowded but most LA Fitness locations are that I have been to. This is a busy location as it's located on the corner of 348th and pack highway. I will say I will visit again. It was the end of the day on Monday. TO BE FAIR YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THE PLACE AND CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. I am a firm believer it's not the staffs job. So maybe people just care more in Auburn.

I've been a member here for years and currently the assistant management and front desk workers are the worst group I've dealt with. Unless you are a women or can drum up some business for them, it doesn't seem like they are interested in any conversation. I complained two months ago about equipment that is close to failing and was met with rude behavior and dirty looks. Since then it hasn't changed, if not worse.

I've been lifting and training for 53 years, and I know which equipment works best for my physical and mental fitness requirements.

Disappointing Experience – Unprofessional Staff and Poor Facility Upkeep

Unfortunately, my recent visit to the Federal Way LA Fitness left a lot to be desired. I came with family who are LA Fitness members in Alabama, and we were shocked by how unwelcoming and unprofessional the front desk staff were. One staff member spoke aggressively and even yelled at one of my visiting family members for no clear reason. At the same time, they completely ignored other guests who walked in without checking in.

The overall atmosphere was tense and uninviting, and it certainly didn’t reflect the customer service we’ve experienced at other LA Fitness locations. I had planned to ask about a guest pass and possibly joining, but after the interaction we experienced and witnessed, I let the manager know that I was no longer interested.

Additionally, the gym itself seemed poorly maintained. Some of the equipment looked outdated, and the workout area had very few—if any—cleaning supplies or paper towels available. Cleanliness and upkeep should be a priority, especially in a fitness environment.

I hope management takes these concerns seriously. This location could be so much better with the right leadership and attention to member experience.

This gym charged me for an entire year but me access when I tried to attend saying I owed money after a traumatic ankle injury. I had surgery I had brought in a doctors note. They hurassed me by phone demanding payment although I provided a Dr note. They mixed up two accounts. They told me no refunds and humiliated me by phone and in person. I would not recommend this gym. Their pool and hot tub are unclean.

I cancelled the membership. I have been with them for years off and on. My card got stolen and the payment didn’t come through. I am waiting for my card to arrive to update. For how packed this gym gets on a regular bases it is far from okay that there is not working air conditioning in this building. It stinks, and the air is muggy enough on a regular day but it’s even worse now that it’s summer. It stinks, and the cardio machines upstairs aren’t even worth it at times with how humid it gets up there. Machines are not as good as machines at a lot of other gyms I’ve been to. Heck even planet fitness had good machines. Less variety but good nonetheless. Stuff is always breaking or stays broken, barbell bars are bent, the fountains have brown build up and are unsanitary, and one of the male employees here definitely has some anger issues. If y’all’s just had air conditioning I probably would be noticing so many flaws while I rest in between my workouts

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING!!! I’ve been going to LA fitness for 7 YEARS and this year we signed for personal training and were told we had to do it for 6 months before cancelling so we did. After the lack of consistency, lazy trainers who barely have available, and cancelations last minute on the sessions we decided to cancel and were told the personal training sessions were canceled. 3 months later and I’m still being charged $240 each month totaling $720. When we went in to talk to someone multiple times and we were told to call corporate to get refunded. Corporate told us since the 3 employees we spoke to were fired for doing shady stuff we weren’t going to get refunded but they were “sorry”. It’s sad to say I had to cancel my entire membership for this messed up experience

After they closed gym in Redondo its a disaster here. So many people. And the more clients they get the less they care for us. Very hot inside, if there AC its totally failing. Roof was leaking entire winter. In ladies bathroom always dirty, often no paper towels at all. Moss growing in the frame of the pool. Machines stay "scheduled for service" for weeks. And if any issues management is very unhelpful. I don't care attitude.

LA fitness in Federal Way is kept very dirty. Locker areas are kept dirty everytime when i go in, trashes on the floor, seating areas as well, shower areas full of black moldy lines, shower curtains are dirty, hate to touch them....
Cleaning ladies are around, but some reason, areas not kept clean, doesn't seem to wiping down areas, shower areas have hairs, trashes, floors are slimmy as well. I am not using the locker room or shower areas any longer, just go for to use machines, but this one has all the old outdated machines, compared to other ones. Very disappointing!!!!

It’s been months since the hamstring leg curls machine broke. The small pin to add weights is missing. The machine next to it, the single leg hamstring curl needs lubrication OR it’s just broken. It’s frustrating to say the least. In a commercial gym like this it’s important to check your machines just like you check the membership fees have been paid! We pay because we NEED to train.

Worst gym ever. Always dirty especially bathrooms, machine never get fixed, AC always out, always extremely crowded and always under staffed.
Due to Redondo and Kent gyms closing this gym gets triple the people. Gym is the same size and same amount of staff but yet we get not double but triple amount of people. You're not gonna be treated welcome or as a customer, you'll be treated just another number.
Useless tennis place, basketball court and the bike classroom are almost always empty. Everyone else must work out shoulder to shoulder breathing each other sweat when we could have used the other empty rooms as a gym. Please upgrade this gym ASAP

I brought my elderly grandfather to this LA Fitness with an approved guest pass. He briefly stepped into the restroom, and while I was explaining, Randy, a front desk employee clearly overestimating the importance of his role, decided to ignore me and said, “this isn’t a public place like McDonald’s.” The lack of basic human decency was shocking.

Then another guy appeared, proudly stating, “I’m the manager here,” as if that somehow justified his rude, aggressive behavior. He threatened to cancel the guest pass and told us to leave — no empathy, no professionalism, just ego.

It was honestly laughable how much attitude they packed into such a small roles.

I’m a paying member. My guest was a senior. Their reaction was not only disrespectful but borderline discriminatory. I’ve filed a formal complaint with corporate and will keep escalating it. A little name tag doesn’t give you power — treating people with respect does. These two clearly missed that memo.

It’s unfortunate to see how much this building has gone downhill. If you’re considering coming to work out at this location please for your own health do not. There a several leaks throughout the building that have persisted for months, missing ceiling tiles, worms coming out of the drains, machines falling apart as you use them, and there have been SEVERAL car break ins in the parking lot. These are not issues that have just popped up recently, these issues are a result of managerial neglect and no accountability for it over months. I was hopefully when they came under new management, but Diamond has unfortunately proven to be condescending and dismissive. I strongly encourage you to ask for a tour before committing to a membership and making this location your primary. I’ve reported this location to the health department.

This gym is an absolute disaster. Ever since they shut down Redondo and the 277th Kent location, this place has become a nightmare—overcrowded, filthy, and completely neglected.

Hygiene? Nonexistent.
- The locker room is a biohazard. Worms in the showers (yes, actual worms), floors permanently wet and slippery, and the sauna has been broken for who knows how long.

-The equipment floor? A joke. The carpet is so dirty it looks like it’s never been cleaned, no janitorial staff in sight, machines are constantly broken, and the HVAC doesn’t work, so enjoy sweating in stale, musty air.

Management? Useless.
- The receptionist is glued to their phone, completely indifferent to the state of the gym.

- Broken equipment? They don’t care.

-Missing dumbbells and worn-out cable accessories? Not their problem.

- No wipes, sanitizer, or paper towels? Hope you like training in filth.

This place is beyond disgusting. If you care about hygiene, working equipment, or basic gym maintenance, avoid at all costs. Check the other Google reviews—this gym is a joke.

When I joined L.A. Fitness (King County, WA, region) I was dubious about the many, many negative comments of some of the facilities.

The negative comments were not wrong, and I endured the reality of the facilities because it was (at the time) the least expensive, most comprehensive option.

The Federal Way location, unfortunately, has its share of problems. Unfortunately, their problems remain similar to the Burien location as well.
Roof leaks are persistent, and there are regularly buckets on the floor (at different points in the facility) where there are roof leaks. There doesn't seem to be any outreach to members about why this persists.
Carpet is not maintained, and in reality sorely needs a replacement. There's no way that they've cleaned that carpet, thoroughly, in _years_. . .otherwise we would have seen evidence of it (any evidence, in fact, that they made any effort to clean any of the carpet in the past 3-5 years).
Bathrooms are consistently out of toilet paper and out of paper towels. Paper towel dispensers are regularly broken or don't function correctly. Sometimes toilet paper is missing 'because people keep stealing it' (whaaa?), so they don't replace it at all. Members continue to use cell phones in bathrooms, despite it clearly posted that they aren't permitted, and management doesn't do anything to address it. Toileting areas are always humid, sticky, and reek of urine: it's clear that HVAC in that area isn't correctly/effectively installed and that they need cleaning MUCH more frequently. Regular staff walkthroughs, of these areas, throughout the day (and thus responding immediately to upkeep of both facility and equipment and members' responsibilities, would greatly help address much of this.
Cardio equipment is never cleaned thoroughly, and it all remains gross. I professionally cleaned houses, at one point in my job history, and these machines have needed scrubbing for years.
These same cardio equipment machines are also not well-maintained. Some don't work at all (stair machines, loft level), some have wonky displays (so, good luck knowing how long you've been on them or how fast you're going or how far you're run/walked), and some displays are grossly inaccurate. If staff can't recalibrate and maintain these, recycle them and replace them.
The stairway to the loft-level had busted treads for years. Sometime in late 2024 they finally replaced the edging. This is but one of several different ways that maintenance is either delayed or ignored (see: roof leaks) at this facility.
The wheelchair-accesible bathroom has seen better days. It is rarely kept cleaned up, dried, etc. It needs a staffer to regularly maintain it throughout the day. Somehow the adjustable shower never gets fixed, nor are their lockers in that space: why does this location seem to think that someone will go lock their belongings in a separate locker room, then bring them into this room to shower, etc.? Why the discrimination?

It's never very clean, and it's always hard to find open equipment unless you're just on a treadmill or something. The Redondo location was great and closest to me, but they shut it down. I'm probably going to cancel my membership because going further to an overcrowded location is not worth it for me.

This place is filled up with full of ignorance ppl. If I had another choice of going to different place I would have. Lot of the times ppl with reserve there machine with their bag which is ridiculous. And a lot of ppl talking to each other sitting at the machine for a long time. You do not want to join this gym. I’ve been a member for months now. 30% or more of the equipment is broken and takes weeks for them to fix. The sauna broke and it took them a month to get it working again. There is often mold in the showers, or no soap in any stall or broken shower curtains. Nearly all the lockers are broken in some shape or fashion. The staff will not apologize for anything, they simply don’t care that you feel you’re not getting your moneys worth. They get defensive whenever you bring anything up or stand offish. All the stationary biles foot straps are ripped off or broken. There’s grime in thick amounts of lint and dust in the men’s locker room. Find a different LA fitness, the location off Kent-Langley is FANTASTIC

La Fitness is generally a well equipped and clean gym. The Federal Way location really needs a management overhaul. The cleanliness of the gym is serverly lacking, having been to this location a multitude of times I can attest I have never seen any staff cleaning. The pool, sauna, and shower areas are always very dirty with bandaids all over the floor that have been there for a long time indicating no one is cleaning regularly. Air conditioner broke and no date when it will be fixed. Very humid and damp inside. Sweat alot during workouts and even after shower. Starting to smell inside the gym of sweat and damp moist air.

This gym is only as busy as it is because there are no big competitors near by (there are mostly only small private gyms). As soon as a better gym opens up be sure that people will end their membership here. Equipment is old and janky. Not to mention this is a very busy location during peak hours. Sooo busy you’ll want to leave because you’ll be left waiting for equipment.

This location serves both federal way and Tacoma. I don’t know what LA is thinking not opening up another gym.

This place is a dump. Men’s locker room with 6 sinks with soap and only 1 soap dispenser had soap for days. Hand sanitizer stations and only 1 worked. Now they have taken out the 2 sanitizer stations upstairs After someone becomes a member you are then not important.
It’s on to next member to sign up.

This gym has really gone down. Whenever you go to the gym you’re never greeted. The girl at the counter just pays attention to her phone, not paying attention to who’s walking in the gym, really rude and unprofessional. I had a question the other day she just kept staring at her phone as if I was talking to myself, so I just walked away instead. Won’t be coming back to this location. Bathrooms are also filthy. I even upload a photo of her doing absolutely nothing as always. Hope this changes people don’t pay their money to go to a gym just to be ignored or it to be filthy all the time.

If you are told that the first session with a trainer is free, don't believe it. That session can end up being very expensive for you. I was given a personal session with a trainer without my knowledge, and papers were signed on my behalf without my consent. I didn't know about it at all.
So, if you want money to disappear from your bank account and decisions made for you, welcome to LA Fitness.

This is a pretty great place to workout!!! The only gripe I have is that there are so many enthusiasts! Haha. And there could be some extra clips for the barbells. But this place is great. Especially for any entry level+ training!

This would be 4 stars but the response time to fix broken machines is laughable. The pec fly has been broken for the past 2 months. Also it seems like deep cleaning is never done whatsoever. The pool/hottub area is always dirty - like legitimate grime built up. Some simple fixes would make this place a lot better.

A great place to work out. The atmosphere is always very welcoming and friendly. The amenities are vast, there's lots to enjoy. Gym users are an accepting, encouraging culture. It's a large facility, lots of equipment. The regulars are super supportive. Thank you LA Fitness for providing the community with an excellent gym!

I just wanted to take this moment to give my utmost appreciation and thankfulness to the entire crew & LA Fitness in Federal Way because on 04/02/2024 I removed a bar within the squat rack and my finger got pinched between two points and I started to bleed from my finger. The whole entire staff including the manager expediently helped me in every way possible with care and professionalism by assisting with the sanitary cleanup and the medical care.

The gym is obviously profitable. They need to update and repair machines. One good operational pec deck? Everything is dirty. If they had a good competetor in the area, they would go out of business.
I do like the large selection of machines.

All I can say is this gym is dirty. The women’s shower is dirty. You can see the brown dirt on the tile. The hot tub is also dirty, you can see the dirty floor if there’s no bubbles. Even the swimming pool is dirty. You can see brown spot on the bottom of the pool. Does anyone clean there any more?

Takes seconds to sign up online, easy and hassle free for them to start taking your money! In order to cancel, however, you MUST print out and mail in a form or go in to the facility in person. I now live 2 hours away and don't have easy access to a printer or the physical location. This is predatory canceling and it's a disgusting practice. Will not ever have an LA Fitness membership again in my life and I'd recommend anyone consider finding a better option.
