I went to LocalFit to get back into the habit of moving my body and lifting weights after a couple tough years of inactivity and personal stress. John made it very easy to figure out which location would work for me and set me up with Michael as a personal trainer. Working with Michael twice a week to rehab an old injury and rebuild strength has been really rewarding. I've been somewhat embarassed (but not surprised) to discover that when I work with a professional, my training sessions are actually much gentler and less prone to re-injury than what I'll put myself through when left to my own devices. Progress doesn't have to be painful!

I've been working out with Abril for a couple years and I always look forward to my morning training sessions with her. Knowing that I have a trainer who prioritizes my goals while also looking out for my best interest to avoid injury or overtraining is everything! She keeps me moving forward while continuing to correct my form and intensify my workouts, all while bringing her genuine personality and humor to every session. She's the best! Abril is the best! I have gained so much muscle working with her. She watches form closely, so thankfully no injuries on her watch. Been working with Abril for several years now and I've been very happy. She's very flexible and good at adjusting my workouts to what needs attention at the time or my changing priorities. I train twice a week with Abril and all you really need to know is I look forward to going gym since I started at local fit. At other places I dreaded going gym. Abril is awesome at motivating whilst keeping everything fun and enjoyable. Over the last couple of years I’ve had a couple of painful injuries (not gym-related) and I know my recovery time was much quicker thanks to Abril’s training. She is a very skilled and knowledgeable trainer. Abril (and Local Fit) I highly, highly recommend.

Working with Ben has been great! He was able to quickly assess what exercises we could safely do around my shoulder injury without further aggravating it. Initially we didn't officially know it was a torn labrum/bicep tendon strain but he still kept me confident I wouldn't get hurt by being cautious and explaining himself well before we did anything.

After several injuries that limited my mobility, I needed help figuring out how to get back to skiing, swimming, weight lifting, and bouldering. The owner, John, paired me up with Ben K. and I've been very pleased with how Ben has listened, thoroughly understood my injuries, and coached me. The first several weeks he helped me understand how to maintain proper form admist my injuries, and now that I'm feeling more confident he's gradually helping me get swole! John and Ben are both warm and friendly. Before signing up I was nervous that it wouldnt be worth the money but It's definitely become a worthwhile financial investment for me.

It’s taken me a long time to write this review because I needed to find the right words to describe my truly life altering experience working with Ben at Local Fit. If you are someone with gym anxiety, someone with chronic pain, or someone with any type of disability/physical limitations, this wonderful gym and specifically, this incredible trainer, is for you.
Working with Ben was unlike any experience I’ve ever had working with a personal trainer, or physical therapist for that matter. He is not only exceedingly passionate about movement and helping others’ achieve their goals, but he is fiercely knowledgeable about the human body, our myofascial network, and really takes the time to learn about you so he can best adapt workouts to fit what works for YOU and YOUR body. Working with Ben is not a “do your sets, get pushed past your limits, and leave in pain” experience. He consistently checked in on my nerve pain levels, educating me on what each workout was doing for my body and my goals, and spent my first few sessions intently watching me walk, run, lift, etc. He took note of my biggest concerns - a nuerostimulator implant, relentless sciatica, and general movement anxiety. By my second week, I had gone from being terrified of suspending myself in the body weight back extension machine, to doing 10+ sets fully on my own before we even began our session. My greatest desire was strength - Ben modified nearly every weightlifting exercise to work within my physical limitations, and gave me manageable at-home stretches and routines to implement in between.
I quickly discovered that a large part of my inabilities were purely tied to the psychological- you tell yourself you can’t do something for long enough, you believe it. Ben showed me that movement of any caliber is achievable, for anyone, if they’re willing to put in the work. There was never an ounce of judgement, shame, or entitlement. Ben is a genuine, caring, charismatic soul. I move differently in my every day life now because of my experience with him. Worth every penny.
Ben is a stellar professional, and I truly believe one of the best in his field. I am honored to have worked with him, (and if I hadn’t moved out of Seattle, I still would be.)

If I could give more stars I would. Meeting my personal trainer - Ben - has been nothing short of life changing. After numerous injuries and years of physical therapy I wanted to regain strength, confidence and live pain free. This is a great gym! I love the flexibility they have with different packages and I feel I am able to work out to my needs and in a way that fits my schedule. I have been working with Yevhenii and be is a fantastic trainer. Very knowledgeable with a great emphasis on safety and proper form and technique for best results. I’ve been working with Ben on strength training for about a year and a half now and he’s been excellent at helping me reach my goals! I originally started at Localfit because I injured my lower back lifting by myself and was hesitant to start lifting again for fear of re-injury. Ben was super accommodating of this and has helped me learn how to lift pain free. My lower back pain has also reduced a lot after years of unsuccessful treatments through injections.

Editing to add a proper recommendation. I've been going to Local Fit for several years now. I walked past the Broadway location every day on the way to work, and finally stopped in for a consultation. John was so easy to talk to, listened to my fitness goals, and matched me with the right trainer. I have worked out with John, Abril, Anna, and Lo. Each trainer is fantastic at keeping you engaged, challenged, and on track and I always leave feeling like I can tear a phonebook in half. The Summit location is also a great space, it's larger with more equipment. I have attended a few group classes, but I work best one on one with a personal trainer. Local Fit's personal trainer rates are the best in the city. I have fallen out of the gym habit for the better part of a year, but since I started writing this, I realized I should take my own advice and give them a shout. Thanks to John & Local Fit team!

I joined about 8 months ago as a hesitant first time gym-goer. I'd never lifted weights. I didn't do well in group classes--too intimidating. The modern Orange Theory gadget-focused approach didn't resonate either.
In Local Fit I found a mix of old school charm and a sense of community I didn't expect. The motivation and ability to customize sessions are outstanding. My coach, Yevhenii, builds a strong rapport, focused on positive encouragement, overall health, and genuine interest in my well being. I often come tired and weary after too many Zoom meetings. I leave EVERY SINGLE TIME with a sense of accomplishment and pride. It's changed me and my life for the better.
I highly recommend, regardless of age or fitness level. This is personal training at its best.

I just want to say that this place changed my life. A lot of the trainers really take the time to evaluate your goals and what you're hoping to do. It's important to know that because this place is a smaller gym, all trainers really spend a lot of time and care on each client.
My personal trainer Lo, is skilled in a lot of things and has been able to use all facets of that knowledge to help me achieve confidence in my fitness journey. She understands good form, how to develop the look of the body, how to focus on specific areas, and generally understands how to challenge me at my level.
I'm always learning something new, having fun, and excited to go to train. She also has additional classes that focus on HIIT + Strength and Restorative Mobility! Definitely check her out and mention me so I can't get more sessions haha 😆

Since starting at Local Fit my experience has been nothing but positive. Working out with a trainer in a larger gym always caused some discomfort, not to mention all the machines or free weights felt overwhelming. Eventually I would fizzle out in the spaces because I never felt comfortable or I would see others and compare my progress to theirs and feel overwhelmed and lose motivation. When I initially visited Local Fit, I was happy to see it was a smaller, more intimate space. It felt approachable and peaceful, like a really nice at home gym, with all the essentials. During the initial consultation, we spoke through my goals, my preferred availability, and available trainers. Immediately the prospect of working with Yevhenii seemed like a great fit and our availability aligned perfectly. Over the last few months I was able to get started and within a short period of time could feel the genuine results. Yevhenii explains the motions, what they are targeting, and gives alternatives or variations based on my needs/ability. I feel comfortable in the gym and also really motivated because I can make progress in my own time. I absolutely recommend this space to anyone who has felt that same intimidation at other gyms and wants to start of progress their fitness journey. I also highly recommend Yevhenii, as his approach is fantastic and whether you’re starting back at day 1, like me, or a more advanced athlete, his knowledge of various workouts and motions can meet you where you are.

I’m older and out of shape and easily intimidated by gyms but I’ve been working with Lo for a couple of months now and it’s been terrific. She really understands where I am and what I can do. I went to local fit to find a trainer to help with low back issues (too much work from home). John was very helpful in helping me figure out what I would need and getting me set up.
My personal trainer was Ben and he was fantastic. My back pain was virtually gone within two months and afterwards the training turned into strength focused. I've never been in better shape in my life.
I really appreciate the great environment John and the other trainers promote and the great results I've gotten from coming in, highly recommend to anyone wanting to get in better shape.

I was seeking out personal training because I had fallen off my normal workout routine, largely due a historically bad knee and what imagine tight/sore hips from bad posture at my 9-5
I assumed the trainer would just create a workout to avoid the pain or stress, but Ben is no ordinary trainer! You can see Ben’s passion for fitness and health from the get-go. He has been committed to addressing the pain and resolving it rather than avoiding it, he’s mantra being that no one has to live with pain.
It’s been great working with him the past few months. We’ve gotten to the point where if my knee is in pain he can reduce the pain within a matter of minutes. I really look forward to resolving the pain while meeting my fitness goals.

I found this gym on a whim and couldn’t be happier. I was looking for a personal trainer that would help me with mild scoliosis and longer standing sports injuries and was lucky enough to have met Ben. Training with him has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in 2022 and for my physical health honestly probably in life. Ben is motivating and supportive and with him around I feel more confident of achieving all the training goals I have set out for myself!

This isn't the flashiest gym with hundreds of machines. You won't get spritzed with Evian (probably?) but you WILL get some incredibly personalized attention from some great trainers. Local Fit is one of a few serious gems on Cap Hill. I came to them ( Abril and John ) in late September 2021 with a specific goal to climb Denali, and they quickly understood what needed to happen. They understood periodization along with specific training, and built a workout program which has a great pace to get me ready. Everyone has injuries, and a good trainer will walk the line to stress your body, but not tweak it - and I feel that here. "shoot me a text tomorrow" is the kind of personal attention they give. Down to earth, no cult vibes, and genuinely caring (and funny) people. The workout routines (for me) cycle through upper and lower body, and target specific groups, and I can feel it the next day. Every exercise has a mod to make it easier or harder at my discretion. It's been an extremely pleasant experience! Highly Recommended!

I came in looking for some extra guidance and motivation to get back in the gym after chronic back issues have mostly sidelined me for the last couple years. Right from the get go, John was working me hard and pushing me while constantly checking in on my back (like every 5 min at first :) ) and switching things up if it was firing a little bit too much. He has a very solid understanding of the body and was able to pinpoint a lot of the same stuff that a physical therapist might. I've started playing basketball again and as new injuries and tweaks came in, John worked around those too and always kept them top of mind.
On top of that, John is just a great guy, and the space and vibe he's set up is a very inviting, no-ego, no judgement zone. He's always bumping some great music, chatting me up, and keeping me going when I need the push

I have been a client for a couple of years. I have had two back surgeries over the last couple of years and was in a lot of discomfort. John has put together a program that has made my quality of life so much better. He always makes sure that each exercise is comfortable and if not changes it up to get the same results.

I started working with John over a year and a half ago after a bad ankle injury, I was needing to find new ways to exercise. John is always mindful of my injury and has plenty of modifications available to find something that works for me. I hate super amp’d up fake positive bullshit, and I love that John can meet me at my level, and push me to go harder, but also be pretty chill as well. I’ve really enjoyed working with him—I’ve gotten stronger and stayed fit, in these weird times having an outlet for physical activity has been so helpful for both my body and mind. Unassuming little gym with one on one training. I started coming here in October of ‘19 and hadn’t worked out in a long time. After 4 months, I was feeling like a new man. COVID threw a wrench in things, but John helped me recreate some good habits and lose the pandemic pounds. He would even text me reminders to keep me on track. I moved away from Cap Hill a month ago but the habits John helped me create are still with me, going strong. I've been training with John for +3yrs, and there's a reason why I keep coming back time and time again. I'm an avid weightlifter, but sometimes you need that extra push & external motivation. John keep me accountable, pushes me for that extra rep and encourages me to go heavier, which is hard for me to do on my own sometimes. I really love that John keeps the environment super fun and friendly, it's not intimidating at all for newbies and still fun for us veterans. There's definitely a community vibe here - everyone who comes in for the bootcamp classes are super nice and I've ended up making a ton of friends through the process. Local Fit is fantastic. The owner, John Maher, is extremely communicative, flexible, goal-oriented, and personable -- all important qualities you'd wish for in a personal trainer. It's the most affordable personal training option I've ever come across, and each session is a fully-focused one-on-one experience that genuinely kicks my butt every time. John's awesome, and Abril, his business partner, is also great.
They keep the space super tidy, which is especially important during the time of COVID-19. The studio is colorful, they've always got their big windows open to help filter fresh air in and out of the space, and the equipment is super reliable. I've been a client at this location, both for classes and personal training, for a year.
Classes are HIIT circuit-style with various equipment (weights, bands, ropes, medicine balls, etc.). Every class is different so you don't get bored. With Covid-19 they're only doing only small-group classes with attendees staying in place with dedicated equipment (no rotating/sharing).
Good prices and great service. I'd recommend both the classes and training.

John has never once made me feel weird about my body, which is a first for personal trainers. We focus on what I can do and how I feel, not how I look. We always have fun and he never fails to mix it up and keep me on track. Very, very highly recommend.

Training at Local Fit has been the best investment I’ve ever made, for both my mind and body! Possibilities are endless with coach John! He’s taught me how to move again without any pain or injury that working out typically brings! I’d highly recommend both personal training and HIIT classes! A wonderful mix of cardio as well as strength training. I truly cannot thank Local Fit enough for helping me achieve my goals on my fitness journey!
