I've been working with Ben for the past year and a half or so. As a transgender person, I was looking for a trainer that would be able to help with my feminization goals. I’ve been coming to this gym for over a year and I really like it. The classes are strength focused with a split routine, which I really enjoy. The instructors — Ben, Mitch, and John — are excellent. Ben is great at explaining cues for lifting, which has helped me correct my form and target the right muscles. Mitch is also really good at helping with form and explaining things clearly. The instructors focus on helping you improve, and they’re supportive and encouraging without being intimidating or pushy.

After plateauing with my PT following ACL surgery I came to Local Fit to focus on getting strength back. I had such a great experience working with Ben! He had a lot of creative ways to target quad strength and got me back to heavy walking lunges which hadn’t felt comfortable with body weight when we started. Can’t recommend Ben enough. Saw the other trainers patiently working with gym newbies and pushing the more experienced. Training is also so reasonably priced for this little hidden gem of a gym.

I’ve been training at this gym for the past six months with Ben as my personal trainer, and the experience has been great. Although I had prior experience at the gym, I lacked confidence in building an effective routine, using equipment correctly, and preventing injuries. Ben helped bridge those gaps with professionalism and care.
He brings a high level of energy and a consistently positive attitude to every session. His passion for fitness and dedication to continued learning are evident in the way he explains his approach to each exercise. Ben regularly shares detailed insights into which muscle groups are being targeted and how each movement contributes to overall progress. I made a habit of coming in each week with a few questions, and Ben was always eager to answer them thoroughly.
I also have chronic back issues, and Ben was thoughtful and creative in adapting exercises to minimize discomfort while still achieving results. I especially appreciated his focus on helping me become independent in the gym.

I've been going to Local Fit for 3 months now. Its not fancy, but the people are great and the equipment all seems to be well maintained. I've been working with Ben. He has amazing ability to sense what I am ready for and my strength has improved beyond expectations. I have a rotator cuff injury (from way back). We spend about 10 minutes doing exercises to help that heal and to strengthen those muscles. Ben has helped me wake up muscles that I never new existed. Overall there is a good mix of upper and lower body exercises. The 45 minutes just speeds by. I am quite cautious on the COVID front - but feel very comfortable at Local Fit. There is typically just one other trainer/client pair and there are close to a dozen fans keeping the air circulating.
As others have said, Ben has an amazing grasp of anatomy and how different muscles, tendons, etc interact.

Gifted my son “a trainer at a gym”. Landed on Local Fit (Capitol Hill) as John (owner) was very responsive, clear in communicating, and willing to pair my son with a trainer that fit his schedule and goals. TLDR: If you're looking to boost your confidence and actually feel good about going to the gym, get a trainer at Local Fit!
Best. Trainers. Ever. I've been working on my v2 personal update and a large part of that is losing weight and getting into shape. At the time I started training at Local Fit, I had recently undergone major joint replacement and I was just able to move freely again after about 7 years walking with a cane. I was nervous about getting a personal trainer at first because of previous experiences. But Local Fit is something completely different. Rather than making you into a 'project' that the trainer needs to work on, the trainers at Local Fit are there to work on YOUR terms. I've never felt pressured into signing anything I didn't want to or been made to feel guilty for needing to reschedule a session. My trainer, Mitch, is the best trainer I've ever worked with. He's patient, knowledgeable, a really good teacher, and he makes sure to both work at a pace that I'm comfortable with while also pushing me to beat personal records. Working with Mitch has been an amazing experience! Going to the gym doesn't have to be a nerve-wrecking experience. I'm excited to go workout now and I've even decided to increase the number of weekly sessions! Give Local Fit a try. They really are one of the best out there!

I started training here with Ben about 7 months ago. I was struggling with chronic back pain caused by scoliosis, which flared up any time I lifted heavy. I also was recovering from a lingering shoulder injury that was causing persistent issues with strength and stability of the shoulder. Ben took a lot of time to listen to what I was experiencing. He has an amazing understanding of anatomy, and was able to explain why I was having so much pain and how to fix it. He worked with me to improve my form and strengthen muscles I didn’t know were important. 7 months later I am able to squat 100 lbs, completely pain free for the first time ever. I can also bench 80lbs, which I never thought would be possible for me. Ben is also a great person to spend time with, and believes in a fact-based approach to fitness which has really benefitted me. Recommend him specifically if you’re struggling with daily or persistent pain.

This is a great gym! I did a free trial week starting Jan 6, 2025 and yesterday was my first day as a member. I've been to 5 classes so far and I am very impressed with the knowledge of the trainers and the care they put into the workouts. The class sizes are small (9 is the most I've seen so far) so they can really be present with each member, which is really helpful as I'm just getting back into a regular routine after about a 2 year hiatus from exercising with equipment.
I love that this is a small local business. They listen to feedback about when class would be best suited for their members, they check in with you regarding goals and injuries, and you can tell they are striving to be "real", non-pretentious, and welcoming to all. The members are the same - encouraging and friendly, and all on various levels of their fitness journey, so I don't feel out of place or judged. I also enjoy that each day the class emphasizes a different part of the body, so if I stick to my goal of going every weekday, I will hit all areas and really see results.
They're not gimmicky or sales-y, and the trainers and owner John really care about what they're doing. In my quest to get back into a routine, I signed up for a free week at 3 different gyms I could walk to, and Local Fit was the first one I attended. I'm glad I started here because after the 2nd class I cancelled the other two and knew I had found the right fit for me.

My wife and I love this gym! Any fitness goals you might have can surely be achieved at Local Fit.
We train with Mitch, who is very knowledgeable about the human body and its strength-building capacity. We enjoy working with him so much that we have recently increased the number of times per week that we work out at Local Fit, now attending a mix of individual training sessions and group classes. He keeps the energy high and the exercises goal-oriented.
Weight training is hard work, but it's like my grandma always said: you've got to be willing to sweat a little if you want killer buns, chat.

I've been working with Ben at Local Fit for about 6 months and I could not be happier. I was very strong back in college, but haven't had a consistent lifting program for the last 8 years and have mostly been rock climbing. I started noticing more small injuries and nagging weaknesses, so I wanted to find a trainer to address full-body strength, stability, and mobility. I met with owner John for a consult and he paired me up with Ben. Ben is an expert at functional movement and holistic "usable" strength. He adapts exercises to my specific needs (long torso, stiff ankles) and isn't a stickler for any fitness "rules". We play around with different variations of exercises until the movement feels GOOD. I barely even notice the weight going up, but it is indeed going up (a lot). What I have noticed: climbing falls don't hurt, some of my jeans do hurt, and whenever I move heavy stuff like furniture it's just...smooth. My body is working like it's supposed to and I'm confident that the strongest point of my life is in the future. Thanks Ben!

I had not tried personal training before and decided to give it a try since I’ve been having a recurring shoulder injury. My trainer Ben has gone above and beyond my expectations and really showed how much he cares about my goals and progress. He comes up with unique exercises to target the areas I want to work on and prioritizes good form. He also gives in-depth explanations for the science behind the exercises, which I really appreciate as someone who values understanding the why for things. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ben for a while now, and I can confidently say that he’s one of the best trainers I’ve ever encountered. When I first joined the gym, I was a complete beginner and felt a bit overwhelmed by the whole fitness scene. Ben immediately put me at ease with his approachable and friendly attitude. He took the time to get to know me, my fitness goals, and my current level of experience, and from there, he crafted a workout plan that was both challenging and achievable.
What sets Ben apart is his attention to detail and his deep understanding of fitness. Every session, he takes the time to explain not just how to do an exercise but also why it’s important, how it impacts different muscle groups, and how to adjust my form for maximum effectiveness and injury prevention. I’ve been working with Casey at Local Fit Capitol Hill. I’ve never weight trained before and she’s perfect. She’s so knowledgeable and precise and is great at explaining things and making adjustments that shift where and how your body feels the work. Worked with Ben here for about 3 month and had a great time. The gym has everything you’d want, plus more, and Ben is a great trainer. I went from about 40-50% reduced range of motion in my neck and left shoulder (from an old injury) to full ROM. No longer am I like Zoolander, unable to look left. Today, I stand here before the Google as a proud omni-turner, able to face all challenges left, right, and center.
More seriously, Ben helped show me how to walk and stand better, how to activate little muscles in my back, core, and legs to stabilize my body more, and how to move with a better overall flow. Ben has an energetic and unique approach to training, and is able to adapt in the moment to whatever the client needs. I highly recommend this guy to anyone looking to improve themselves physically.

I recently had the pleasure (which I don't associate with exercise) of working with a personal trainer at the Summit location of Local Fit. I wanted to meet with someone to help me learn weights, form, general fitness education, and help me with my first step towards getting into "shape" and be healthy. My trainer and the other people who worked at, and owned, the gym, were so nice, so helpful and informative, that I have since joined a gym near my new place and am comfortable doing weights on my own and enjoying the effort to get into shape. My trainer let me make bad jokes, complain, and ask millions of questions. No one made me feel bad about my current shape or lack of fitness knowledge. I feel that I have a strong foundation to safely get in shape thanks for my time here. I would recommend Local Fit to anyone who needs help or just wants to work with someone 1:1 to stay in (or get into) shape. I am very thankful for what I learned here!

I have been going to Local Fit for more than five years. The training sessions are customized for your over all fitness. The staff are professional and friendly, making for a fun atmosphere. I am 58 years old and have had two back surgeries. The staff is very good at structuring a workout routine that focuses on overall body strength and conditioning tailored to what you are looking to achieve. Protecting, while strengthing my back has been a big part of my overall health goals and I achieve this and much more everytime I step in to the gym. Give it a try.

I have been training with Ben, both personal and group, for some time now and it has been an exceptional experience. Ben brings a unique blend of expertise, encouragement, and personalized attention to every session. He makes sure that the workout is challenging but also safe and effective. I’ve been coming here for about 2-3 months and waited to give a review until I had a good feel for the people and my experience here. It’s been fantastic. I needed to really work on my strength and need to head off bone and muscle loss at my age. Really at any age. Despite doing years of cardio and (poorly supervised) strength training using videos, I could see my body aging. Joining this gym and using a personal trainer (Amelia) has been a game changer. She’s been patient in correcting my form and I’ve seen improvements already. She’s also been very flexible with my workouts as I have a frozen shoulder and not all exercises work for me. The place feels low key- no one judging or strutting. It’s a good fit for me. The owner John is very personable and found an excellent fit for me with my current trainer.

Yevhenii is an excellent and knowledgeable trainer. He pays attention and corrects my form, encourages me to push myself and makes me feel great about my strength and my progress. I have worked out in several gyms or group classes before and nothing really stuck, I felt out of place and eventually it faded away. I have enjoyed his sessions so much that I started at once a week and have increased to twice a week. Great little gym with a lot of heart. I have been working with Ben for a couple months now. Early this year I got shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. After graduating from PT, I wanted to get back into weightlifting safely while also continuing to work on my flexibility and residual pain. Ben is perfect for my goals - mixing in strength training with flexibility work and offering advice on stretching, fascia release, etc for me to do at home. I worked with Ben for over a year. He is awesome and truly an innovative trainer. I struggle a lot with lower body posterior chain weakness and Ben was great at coming up with new and effective ways to target and strengthen my body that were tailored to me and my abilities. Not only that, but he has a great understanding of fascia and how tension and slack affects the body and its ability to generate force in useful ways. He uses this deep understanding to inform his workout plans, to help his clients move better. Ben is a great communicator and truly cares that he is helping his clients achieve their fitness goals. He began every session asking if there was anything I would like to work on, and if I was sore or tight anywhere. And he ended each session by asking how I felt about the session. I liked that about our sessions, because I felt like it helped us stay on the same page from week to week. Overall, I would definitely recommend working with Ben, particularly if you want to gain a better understanding of how the human body works, and if you want to improve your strength and ability to move.

I started worked with Ben primarily to get my knee in good shape leading up to my ACL reconstruction surgery. Ben was super helpful in that process. He identified the weaknesses in my knee and came up with a tailor-made program to strengthen it where it mattered the most. He introduced me to techniques like ATG split squats, VMO work which have now become a constant part of my workout routine. Coming out of the surgery with his help I was back to lifting my rep maxes in no time. He's always coming up with new exercises so it's never a boring workout. He's also quite skilled at distilling the key parts of a movement and conveying it in a way that's easy to understand. Goes without saying he comes highly recommended!

Training at the new Localfit Summit Ave location is amazing! Such an extensive gym, with every possible machine, and free weights! I’ve gained 40lbs in lean muscle and have never been in such good shape! Cannot say enough good things about Localfit Seattle! 🦾

I had never worked out before coming to Local Fit and hiring John as a personal trainer. It has been almost a year now and I am so very glad I did. Working out has made a huge difference in my body, overall wellness, and my mental health. His prices are super reasonable and my workouts are 30 minutes long which is the perfect amount of time (especially for a person who hates working out). John has been patient with my progress and knows just how much he can push me during each session. I am super grateful I decided to start this journey a year ago and very grateful to John for being such a wonderful, helpful, and hilarious trainer. If you are on the fence about starting your workout journey, I highly recommend you do so and Local Fit is a great, low-pressure place to begin!

I came to John a year an half ago to start feeling more fit after jaw surgery. I was hooked just a few sessions in and loved it each time. John personalizes each day to what you want to and you will definitely have some laughs between sets. I cannot recommend this guy enough and I never felt better about myself

I had such a great time training with Ben. He helped me get past some issues with my injured elbow. I really appreciate the care he’s taken to help me figure out the triggers and suggest alternatives to exercises. He’s helped me maintain strength training even with my injury. Local Fit is a great fitness studio with fantastic, experienced, and caring trainers. Workouts with John are engaging, effective, and efficient, and I notice a difference in my energy and strength after just a handful of 30-minute sessions. John has also been super flexible with letting me pause my membership when things come up that prevent me from being able to work out as easily (pregnancy, lack of childcare), which has been so helpful as a mom of three. I couldn't recommend this place more!

I didn't want a sweaty gym full of breathing strangers in covid so I was glad to find LocalFit! John paired me up with Ben Krytzen, who is adaptive and creative and figures out how to work my personal trouble spots. We cover strength, balance, activation, and coordination. A year later I'm confidently building strength and feeling fit.
