Love this place. Great workouts, great staff, cool environment. Kicks your butt and it's effective. I truly look forward going to my classes. I just wish they had better class times, trying to make it on time to a 5:45pm class is almost impossible after work.

I've been very late to write a review. I took a class on 11/16/24, it was a great strength class. But front desk experience was THE BEST. I had lost my car keys and was stranded after class. Suzanne and Molly at the front desk looked for my keys, and problem solved a stranded member's desperate situation! Suzanne really went above and beyond. I am so grateful for their willingness to help that day. They didn't have to, class was over. They were so helpful, I'm going to change my home studio to UP!

Update: Still my favorite studio to visit when I am visiting the area. Staff has changed since my last visit. Molly greeted me this AM, just as wonderful and helpful as the last staff. Coaches Marcus, Blake and Jeff provided lots of energy and their own personal flair to their classes!! The studio manager, Madison, runs a clean studio. Sidenote, I love a good OTF branded (they are super soft and wash well) city t-shirt which they have in studio; thank you, Sofie, for helping me with my purchase. They also have mints at the front desk :)
Not my home studio, here for a visit. Coaches (I've had Natalie, Gabe and Taylor, all very energetic and encouraging!!!) and front staff (Brittnie has been the main lady I've seen at check-in, a sweetie) are all wonderful, and the studio is clean!!! ONLY gripe is there are no mints at the front desk like my home studio (habit for the tread portion) LOLOLOL. Seriously, great place to work out. I've been doing Orangetheory since January, an hour of working hard, and I am done. You get a mix of cardio, rowing and weights. It's worth the money!!

I started postpartum in mid-2024 and I feel stronger, healthier, and more confident than I’ve ever been.
The front desk staff happily greet you before your class. All the coaches are amazingly helpful, attentive, and motivational throughout your workout. I hate thinking about workout routines, so OTF is great for offering a variety of workouts throughout the week with flexibility to choose your intensity. And the 5 am OTFers are so diverse and encouraging!
The OTF community motivates me to consistently attend classes and makes me feel supported on my fitness journey. I’m so glad I found OTF UP!

Orangetheory is perfect for me—I can show up, follow the workout, and get a great sweat in without having to plan anything. The mix of treadmill, rowing, and strength keeps things challenging, and the coaches push me to improve. The University Place community is incredibly supportive, celebrating milestones and cheering each other on. It’s helped me rebuild strength after a heart procedure and made it possible for me to reach running goals outside the gym! The structure, accountability, and encouragement are amazing!

I have been an Orange Theory UP member since the beginning. I took a break during the pandemic. During the pandemic, I acquired a lot of nice home exercise equipment and I used the workout at home feature on the app. After things returned to normal, I realized how much I missed the group setting and the vibe of OTF so I rejoined. I love the energy, the culture and support. I love the diversity. There is no place like OTF!

I started going to OTF university place back in March 2024. I was skeptical about the program- that I would eventually get bored with running, rowing, and weights. I can confidently say that I made the right choice and the workouts are actually highly varied and intense (as intense as you want). The coaches and community at this location are motivating, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about fitness. After every workout, I feel accomplished!

I joined Orange Theory December of 2023 as a way to hold myself accountable for working out. I was shocked with how much I enjoyed the entire experience and still do today! I look forward to my work outs and cannot recommend University Place (and Tacoma) locations enough. All the staff and coaches are friendly, fun and genuinely care about you and your fitness journey. They take the guessing out of working out and I always leave feeling empowered and strong. Thank you OTF community for bringing the fun everyday. 🩷

I cannot recommend Orangetheory Fitness University Place enough! I transferred to this studio in May 2022 when we moved to Tacoma, and I was six months pregnant. From day one, the staff was incredibly welcoming and supportive. Their knowledge and encouragement allowed me to work out safely and effectively all the way up until my second baby was born, helping me maintain a strong and healthy pregnancy.
Now, postpartum, OTF UP has been my savior for regaining my strength and stamina. The workouts are always challenging but scalable to meet me where I am in my fitness journey. Thanks to their guidance and the incredible community, I’ve been able to build strength and stay active so I can keep up with my little ones.
Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, or just looking to crush your fitness goals, OTF University Place is the place to be. Thank you for helping me feel empowered and strong through every stage of life!

I joined OTF University Place in October 2023. The free trial class hooked me. The coaches and staff at the UP location are great. The workouts are challenging and fun. Even better, the community of likeminded people from all walks of life and of all shapes and sizes are supportive and encouraging.

You have done an exceptional job "upleveling" the caliber of coaches at the UP studio. The new crew is more mature, personable, have clear coaching skills AND connect with the clients on a human level. The front desk staff has ALWAYS been top notch, so kudos to them as well.

Positive and member-focused vibe - I’ve been part of Orangetheory Fitness since 2016 and look forward to many more years. And to those who think it’s for a ‘certain age group’ only? Not so. OTF delivers the template and excellent coaching, but how far to take it on any given day is up to each person. In the past nine months OTF coaches have gotten me through PT and rehab. Modifications are always an option - it’s your workout.

Great combination of cardio and strength training! Front desk staff and coaches have been super nice too. The music is fun and high energy. I thought it was going to be competitive because of the screens with peoples info (splat points, heart rate, calories burned, etc), but it really isn’t! Everyone is there just doing their own workout. It’s been a great addition to my weekly workout routine!

What do I love about OrangeTheory Fitness? So many things! Mostly I love the variety--no two workouts are ever the same, even different coaches on different days, so you get exposure to different people with different personalities. I love the variety within the workouts themselves---the variance between base efforts, pushes and all-outs, focusing on strength, power and endurance in different ways and combinations. Even the variety of equipment--there is consistent exposure to all three stations (treadmill, rower and weights), but mixing it up so your body is always challenged in one way or another. I love the focus on the total body also. And I love the coaches! They are so helpful and encouraging, watching your form, helping you get the most out of your workout, sharing your goal of being the best you can be. I love the members and the culture of community and support that OTF creates, with Facebook groups for communication, community and encouraging one another, and challenges that are so fun and push us to new levels. No one is there to impress anyone, no posturing, everyone is there on their own journey toward becoming a better version of ourselves, and that always feels respected and supported at every stage by everyone, coaches and members alike. For total fitness that's fun, encouraging, achieves results and is good for the soul, there's no other place for me.
Update: Even through COVID, this still remains true. The coaches, the members, the culture--such a positive place! They've added 45-minute lift classes with special focus on strength training, which is a nice supplement to the standard HIIT sessions. Definitely worth giving it a try!

I've been an Orangetheory member for over 6 years and due to my profession have visited over 16 OTF studios across the US. I love OTF so much that I ALWAYS bring friends and even family with me to share the love and give them a glimpse of this great organization.
However, I've been attending classes at University Place WA since early November 2023 and have brought two guests on two different occasions. Each time my guests were barely welcomed and not recognized or treated like they mattered. I thought the first time maybe it was just an off day. But tonight I brought my second guest and was again so disappointed in the coach for not making him feel welcomed. At the end of the class the coach made us wait 15 minutes while she had a casual conversation about “tattoos” with another client who she appeared to be friends with. Ie, it was not his first time at the studio and he didn't need to wait around for her to explain results. Contrary to me and my guest, we had to wait for the coach to come explain the results on the OTV screen in reference to his heart rate and the arm band.
The coach treated my guest and I like we were actually “putting her out” by asking her to explain the results which is literally her job. What a shame! She should be embarrassed for her behavior.
I've never been so embarrassed to bring my friends and family to an OTF before. I will never bring anyone back to this OTF for their first time. My first friend refused to ever come back to OTF because of this treatment. Specifically when she visited, the manager even gave her side eye and looked her up and down in disgust (my friend is overweight) . It was so obvious that it even made me uncomfortable.
These classes and memberships are unreasonably EXPENSIVE!! We pay a LOT of money to have a fantastic experience. This is not the case at this OTF. I recommend to all newcomers to make your first OTF visit be at a more welcoming and friendly staffed OTF location. Otherwise you'll get a bad taste in your mouth.
So disappointed in this OTF. Coaches, DO BETTER !! It's disgraceful to treat people as if they don't matter. I brag so much about OTF but you all make me look bad as if I condone this treatment. I’m ashamed to be associated with you. I'm officially embarrassed to say I attend OTF at University Place.
The only reason I even gave this OTF 2 stars instead of one is because the front desk staff are kind and the workouts are good. But I still don’t recommend this location to anyone. We all as humans deserts be treated better. And the coaches at this locations seem to grasp that concept. I’m also adding this to my list of notifications to BBB.

I went there this passed Friday for their free 1st time class. Signed up immediately after. I had so much fun and was surprised and proud that despite the fact that im not the most fit person in the class I'm still able to keep up with the movements and enjoy myself. Coach Natalie is so nice and was happy to correct me when i seemed lost, and motivated me while I was on the treadmill. If you come to class I HIGHLY recommend you do additional stretches, because, my lord, I was feeling it EVERYWHERE the next day.
Excited for my noon class today!

A little on the pricy side but any HIIT class, style gym is going to be about the same amount. That’s the end of anything negative I have to say about OTF. The coaches, staff, and other members are nothing but good vibes and motivation. Booking through the app is simple, and just everything about it has made it really easy for me to stay consistent with my visits for the last 6 months. The 3-4 classes a week I attend have given me more strength, energy, endurance, and mobility.

They were helpful over the phone scheduling, but didn’t communicate that we would be turned away for arriving 15 minutes in advance rather than 30 minutes in advance of class. My partner was trying OT for the first time. We were really looking forward to it. I have done Orange Theory at other locations and was not turned away for a similar arrival time for my first class. I know that the actual orientation takes much less than 30 minutes. We drove all the way there and ran late because of the snow! Wouldn’t want to go to a studio that can’t give grace in situations like these—working out should be fun!

I love the coaches and friendly front desk staff and the workouts are so great. For someone who needs the motivation of a group class this is an awesome option. To hold myself accountable I also love being able to book classes ahead of time through the app and knowing I will be charged if I late cancel or don't show up. Great incentive to stay consistent! Regular workouts make a HUGE difference and after going 3 times per week consistently I am stronger, faster, healthier and feel so much better about myself as a whole. I hope I never have to stop!

Horrible experience. Don't waste your time if you're on the fence. I showed up 15 mins early instead of 30 mins early to do my first trial class. I was told I couldn't take the class because I had to fill out 10 mins worth of paperwork, get a studio tour (view the treadmills and rowing machines) and write down my fitness goals. I don't even have a membership at this point, I just wanted to try out OTF to see if I even liked it. When speaking with the front desk ladies, the two on the side were staring at me with dirty looks and made me feel really uncomfortable. I was told that since I scheduled my class online, "unfortunately" (front desk ladies favorite word) I wouldn't have been notified of this 30 mins prior rule (?). Anyways, its 2022, if I need to fill out paperwork, I should be able to do that online prior to class. Also, I shouldn't be forced to do fitness goals and a studio tour to try a free class. 15 mins prior to the class should be sufficient amount of time to do whatever I need to do for a 1 hour class. I left there almost in tears walking back to my car. I'll continue with Vie as they are easy to work with and aren't giving me dirty looks when I am asking questions.

Front desk staff was extremely rude and disrespectful . Offered me a promotion for June and gave me a contract to sign. Showed up for the next available class they had, which was 3 days later (it happened to be July 2nd) and they told me that the promotion had ended and I signed a contract so there was nothing they could do. They told me that I should’ve read the contract before signing. Didn’t know I needed a lawyer to sign up for a gym lol. Ya got me, nicely done orange theory. If the owner of this franchise would like to make this right I would love to hear from them. The “manager” of the franchise, Chelsea, did nothing to make it right and would provide me with no further information. Sad because I was looking forward to going there. I’m sure this is an awesome place, I just feel slightly taken advantage.

Prior to joining Orangetheory I did CrossFit for 13 years. As I’ve gotten older the heavy weights and Olympic style lifts started to take a toll on my body. I’ve always loved being able to show up to the gym and have a coach guide me through a challenging workout. The only thing I felt was missing from CrossFit was endurance cardio.
I joined Orangetheory University Place in August 2019. So far I’ve loved it. The workouts are a great combination of cardio and weight training without the same risk of hurting myself. The coaches do an awesome job of guiding us through the work out and cheering us along.
As a Chiropractor I always hesitated to recommend CrossFit to my patients because if it was done incorrectly there was risk of injury. I also didn’t believe someone could go from not working out at all to joining CrossFit. In my experience CrossFit was best for athletes that wanted to challenge themselves in a competitive environment.
In contrast I have been recommending Orangetheory to my patients because I believe anyone can participate. The coaches are able to adapt the workouts to everyone’s individual abilities.
I believe heart rate based workouts are the way of the future and Orangetheory is on the forefront!

I like that the class is coached. It is super helpful to hear either that I am doing something correctly with weights or that I need to adjust. I appreciate it when the coaches know who I am or recognize me or ask me my name. I like keeping tabs on my heartrate - this motivates me to work hard and pay attention to how I feel. I like that I see other people my age; this also inspires me. The people who work at OTF are very friendly and the studio is very clean. I like that I walk out with just enough energy to walk to my car and drive home. I grew up in athletics and even though we don't compete, it kind of feels like a throwback to those years.

I've been to a number of Orangetheory gyms around the country while travelling on business and this one still has the wonderful new gym smell! Coaching staff was still getting used to everything and were a bit more low key than other studios I've been to. Still got a great workout and will return.
