About the Club

Ruth Perkins created Perkins Coaching in 2014 after spending over a decade in the Health and Wellness industry as a personal trainer and health coach. Perkins Coaching was born out of the desire to create an opportunity for established and competitive runners to take their running and racing from good to great. As a lifelong competitive distance runner, she had a hard time finding a qualified running coach as well as similarly abled runners to train with. Ruth had a very successful running career racing with the best of the best all over the United States and beyond. She is passionate about helping athletes train wisely, run faster and make their dreams a reality.

Ruth has been vital to my physical and mental performance. I am definitely a complicated case with a lot of injuries and she listens, is attentive, and smart. She pushes me to train hard yet safely and has helped me to overcome a lot of mental barriers with this. She has brought so much joy and knowledge to my life. She has introduced me to so many resources to help improve my physical health with running to keep me strong, safe and resilient. I have always loved running, but since training with her, she truly makes me feel like an athlete.

I have worked with Ruth of Perkins Coaching for 10 years. During that time she has gotten me to the start line of every marathon I signed up for (15 marathons), even when I've experienced stress fractures during the build. It is not out of the ordinary to face injuries as runners and she finds creative ways to keep your fitness up while being temporarily sidelined from running.
Ruth keeps training fun by prescribing different types of workouts. She also stays in constant communication with her athletes and plans fun activities that build a community of runners.
Ruth's knowledge of running, encouragement, and dedication make her a top notch coach and human.

As a physical therapist who specializes in runners, I've worked with Coach Ruth many times in the professional sense. We've coordinated and collaborated in the care of athletes as they work through aches/pains or injuries to establish safe, yet effective training guidelines to try to keep runners doing what they love - running! I have always appreciated the amount that she values the health and wellness of her athletes. Coach Ruth is very responsive and communicative throughout the rehab journey while we prepare an athlete for full return to training. Through her expertise, she has helped me become a better physical therapist by offering her insight into the training demands her athletes will need to tolerate so that we can safely work up to meet those demands in PT before transitioning fully into coaching. Coach Ruth also takes a deep interest in understanding the body, movement, and the mind and she's got a tremendous drive steeped in curiosity that allows her to provide a holistic lens to support her runners from both the physical performance side to mental performance side.

I have LOVED working with Ruth. Not only does she create customized plans that fit my schedule with 3 small kiddos, she is positive, fun, and at the same time pushes me to do things I didn't know I was capable of. I have gotten much faster than I knew I could be and am so excited to continue working with her. She knows what she is doing as a coach. The best way to describe Ruth with Perkins Coaching is that she’s a ray of sunshine! I got in connection with her through my local and very trusted massage therapist before I started training for my first Boston Marathon! I am so glad I started training with Perkins coaching! I feel that I great individualized attention and my training plan is customized to my goals and needs! Ruth is very knowledgeable and experienced! She has taught me a great deal of tricks to conquer the mental challenges that come with long distance running! She’s helped me shave more than 5 minutes off of my half marathon PR time in less than the year that I have been training with her! I love that she has different levels of coaching, which is perfect for the differing needs of each athlete. I find that the individual coaching sessions have been crucial in helping me get faster! I also appreciate her pre and post run exercises in reducing injury, but when an injury does occur, altering runs and getting on top of it with physical therapy, massage, and other modalities quickly! There is a fun community around Perkins coaching too with other athletes and fun events throughout the year! I plan to keep training with Ruth for a long time!

Is it possible to give 7 stars? I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with Perkins coaching! The comprehensive whole person care and approach to coaching that Ruth takes with her clients is a breeding ground for achieving goals and dreams! She is knowledgeable and stays up to date on cutting edge tools and resources for athletes. I always feel like I am her only client because I find the guidance to be so tailored to my needs.
