Writing this, I know I'm writing about a Planet Fitness.. that being said, today was my last straw with this gym. Typically PFs identity is no "lunks", which sounds good to people who find the traditional gym culture intimidating..but the second you start getting more serious about your workouts and training to failure, that culture becomes not only annoying but inhibiting. The machines here are limited. They are always "out of service", and the staff has no idea what they're doing. The dumbells only go up to 75lbs, and as usual in a PF there is 4 times more cardio equipment than anything else. There has been more than one occasion where a changing room stalker has been staking out lockers he can raid.. but when I bring it up to the staff they do nothing about it. I just went and checked out Thrive fitness down the road and signed up immediately. It is a MUCH better gym for someone that wants to actually lift. I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because the price of PF is cheap, but as usual you get what you paid for. Will be canceling my black card membership very shortly and will never be back.

I just moved across country and started at a new PF. And I MISS this location. The staff was always so kind (especially Tony!!) they knew you by name and kept everything so clean. The equipment was always well maintained and the bathrooms were always clean as well. The best PF I’ve ever been to!

Definitely noticing a significant decrease in cleanliness around the gym that i have not noticed before!

Around and under many of the pieces of equipment there is thick dust and dust bunnies.

In the men's locker room there is quite a bit of debris and dust bunnies in the floor as well as a musty unclean odor... granted it is not an extremely terrible odor but it is definitely signalling that things are not as clean as they should be.

Their profits may not be as high as they want them but an unclean gym environment is not the solution.

Definitely not happy about this...

Men's urinals have not been cleaned for some time...you know how i can tell? Because i have been staring at the same disgusting dried up spit on top of the urinal for several visits now! Absolutely disgusting!

Well, I wish i was making this up but just went into a stall to do my business and once again IT IS OUT OF TOILET PAPER!!!!! Unbelievable! I definitely checked before committing, thank goodness. This is three times now! Whoever the toilet paper crew here at planet fitness is, they are seriously lacking and need to be terminated!

I've only been a member for a few months now. Two of the three sinks have been broken for many weeks, probably as long as I have been a member. Several machines are broken. A few weight stations are broken. There's a broken station in the circuit training area. One of the two hydro massage chairs is broken. And now the Air Conditioning is gone. For over a week.

More and more things are breaking and none of them are getting repaired. I'm seriously not enjoying this experience much anymore. I'm even cancelling my workout tonight. I have been coming every other evening and even bring friends with me that have started their own memberships now.

***Response to Planet Fitness (owner) - the manager is well aware and has said they are waiting for corporate to send over someone to fix the equipment, massage chair, sinks, etc. I was informed there is no ETA because nothing from Corporate. Obviously someone is dropping the ball somewhere and everyone is blaming someone else. This method of operation doesn't give me hope that the issues will be resolved.

Having been a member for years but also a member of other gyms from big fancy university gyms to posh, expensive, everyone is sexy, small gyms I can't remind Planet Fitness enough. They're an (usually) easy to find gym with plenty of equipment for all levels, clean facilities, and long hours. This one in particular is great. The workers are friendly and helpful. They have classes for newbies and the elderly, there is space to do whatever you need, a wide variety of machines with clear instructions and plenty of free weights. If being around newbies really bothers you for some reason you can come first thing in the morning. If you can make it in the afternoon you'll usually find plenty free weights available (though even in the morning if you're flexible you won't have trouble). They have byo lock lockers in the locker rooms and out in the gym, showers (with soap, byo towel), toilets, and dressing rooms. Cleaning supplies are easy to find and most customers use them regularly. If I have to give an area to improve it would be the pace of maintenance. The equipment is kept in working order or repaired rapidly but some other things like bathroom sinks are left out of order too long... Oh and it would be nice to have paper towels in the locker/bathrooms.

Great environment, great amenities, great staff, and a couple of cuties too, lol. One complaint, though, you need to update your equipment. The Plant Fitness in Smokey Point has way nicer equipment. I keep hitting the hand grips and emergency shut off with my arms when I am running, and it hurts my legs when I'm in the middle of a run, and it suddenly stops.

The facility itself is a very nice atmosphere to workout in.
With that being said, I notice that there is a lot of people that don't wipe down the machine when they are done working out on it. I wish the staff was more involved in monitoring this and enforce it. I'm not sure if it is a rule to do so or not, but it is a simple task to perform and should be done out of respect for others. I know of people who have left for other gyms because of this issue. It mayt seem to some that this sounds petty, but when you watch it happen over and over again, it becomes annoying and shouldn't be allowed to continue.

I enjoy the variety of equipment, I like how the app shows a crowd meter so I can gauge how crowded the gym will be at any given time, and I like the operating hours. Bonus for me is the hydro massage, which is really nice after a hard workout. I haven’t been in a gym since I retired from the military over 10 years ago and it’s nice that there is no judgement, it really eases the tension.

No complaints regarding layout and equipment only the requirement to have payments deducted automatically out of bank your account and policy for cancellation. This method allows for them to keep drawing from you when you quit going which I'm sure happens to a lot of people. Most people do not stay motivated enough to keep going but are hesitant to cancel so they keep paying for a membership they don't use. This is the reason I won't become a member. Tried it out but decided if I was motivated enough to stick with it I could do it just as well from home with my own equipment.

The staff is super friendly and helpful.

The only downside is the lack of equipment in certain cases.

The facility in Burlington has two peck dec stations that a person usually doesn’t have to wait to use vs the one and only in oak harbor.

In my opinion if they added the equipment that Burlington has this place would be almost perfect.

The only other issue is the fact that the toilets are broken in the mens locker room, but the plumbing issues are due to the owner of the building and has been going on since it was Kmart years ago.

Planet Fitness Oak Harbor is exactly what it is supposed to be. It is a very welcoming and friendly gym, no matter your experience or level of fitness. I’m a ex division 1 football player and planet fitness has what I need to get a great workout. Along with that, if it’s your first day stepping into a gym, you will find that Planet Fitness Oak Harbor has very simple and easy to use equipment and an amazing staff who is willing to assist you in any way they can!

Jesus H. Christ... If a gym is empty at any point in January make sure you ask yourself why.. To begin, the staff is aggressive. I've had too many run-in to begin to list all of the issues. Also, it is not just one person because it seems like a revolving door of employees.

I had a high-risk pregnancy and was placed on bedrest. I called the location to let them know that I could not attend any longer. I told the person on the phone that I could email paperwork from my doctor, since most gyms have weird cancelation policies. The person informed that it would have to be in person. I ate the fee for the entire nine months. Once I returned today I let them know that this was a horrible policy. The person at the counter informed me that I could indeed send the paperwork, but it was too late to do anything.

I was a member of Planet Fitness Oak Harbor in December and January of 2021-2022. I had to cancel my membership because I was returning to school...in a different state. I signed all of the appropriate documents and was told it was all taken care of...until I received charges on my bank account from Planet Fitness AFTER I canceled my membership! I have been billed for 6 months straight since January! I tried calling them to ask for a refund and they said it would be taken care of. That month, I never received a refund and was billed again, so I called again. In addition to receiving impolite customer service, I was told "oh sorry, your cancellation never actually went through. We'll take care of it and you'll receive a refund." It's been close to a month since I was told that story again and I have still not received a refund. I also contacted corporate Planet Fitness and never received a response. I have emailed, which they ignored, so I finally contacted my bank to prevent Planet Fitness from stealing any more money from me. I DO NOT recommend taking your business here or any other Planet Fitness because of their shady business dealings. Find a gym that actually cares about your health instead of all the money they can make off you.

***UPDATE***

After connecting with Planet Fitness’s Social Team, this problem was quickly resolved and PF refunded ALL of the money including my legitimate payments as a member. Thank you for making it right!

It has been a wonderful place to not only work out but relax with massage chairs and waterjet beds.

Clean and bright. Excellent hours and I have never found it to be crowded.

They know each of us that come in by first name and all of them know our relationship with your gym. Our routine! That’s amazing! You guys make me feel like family. Thank you night crew! Kendrick, Gauge, Anthony, Remmy and new Anthony are amazing! I’m sure the morning crews are the same with how they treat us but I don’t see them so I can’t shot out to them. I’m 2am to 6am work out.
