My kid enjoys the indoor playground... when you can actually get in. They recently changed the online registration program to one of first come, first served... at least according to the website and the three emails they sent about the change. We showed up today and were told you can now call up to an hour ahead of time and reserve your spot, but none to worry because they still had space for us. But then while we were waiting in line to register, enough people had called in to reserve that there was no longer space for us and we had to leave. Come on people, do better. Looking forward to giving Tumbles up the street a try when they open next week. It shouldn't be so hard to find activities for our kids at places with clear procedures and competent leadership.

Birthdays at SGA is so FUN (and hassle free for adults)! Instructor-led play time and room all set up for cake and food. The staff here is extremely helpful and ofcourse wonderful with kids! Especially loved how they set up for a group photo at the end!

My oldest child is nonverbal and autistic. He has been attending classes at SGA since early 2022. He is currently enrolled in a special Olympics class (organized by the fabulous Coach Katelynn) for kids under 8 years old. We couldn't be happier. Coach Millie is amazing! We love our special little team! My middlest did learn & play together and my youngest will once he is old enough as well. The coaches are absolutely stupendous; Luke, Katie, Jack, are just some we've worked with and adore. The support and community here is just wonderful! I also volunteered with Coach Katelynn and Coach Elaine with their regular special Olympics program for a season and that is fantastic as well.

We had our toddler’s birthday party here. Great choice. The kids loved it but just as important the team there was AWESOME. They helped us set up the party room (and even helped us move stuff from the car) and were so good with the kids. Coach Harrison has awesome energy. If they ever saw a kid playing alone they went right in there and made sure the kid was having fun. They really know how to do birthdays and made it a really special one for our kid and all the other kids. Also super easy to park there. 10/10 would recommend. Thank you to the team for a wonderful experience as they helped make it. They were also very hygienic - making sure all the kids washed their hands before eating and helped us hand out pizza with gloves. They really thought of everything. Thank you!!!

This place is magical. Rest assured that excellent athletics and gymnastics are a given- the attentive and dedicated coaches support the gymnasts at every level (we’ve been here from the tumbling fun of the toddler years old to now in a competitive league). They safely and appropriately protect the kids l from the stereotypical hyper-competitive gymnastics culture while definitely promoting and advancing real athletes, both physically and mentally.

Most unexpected to me, though, are the emotional and life-skills the kids (and parents) acquire here: this place shows us all what working hard towards a goal looks like, how to cultivate patience and persistence with yourself and others, and all the forms of teamwork at every level (from family, between the coach/athlete, between fellow athletes, and the administration itself). While true for every sport to a certain extent, it’s remarkable to watch kids blossom and grow into their strong selves, week over week, at SGA Ballard.

In particular we’ve had extra special experiences with coaches Kara, Katelynn, and Breyden, and Manager Julienna (and every person who has ever answered the phone and patiently explained available classes and schedules to us for the hundredth time). Can’t recommend this place enough for any kid interested in trying out gymnastics, whether just for fun or for more serious competition.

My daughter started taking level 1 classes here a few months ago and loves it. The instructors are very patient and helpful, and work hard with the kids to teach them proper techniques. The facility itself is impressive; it’s cavernous and loaded with various equipment and is clean and well maintained. We highly recommend it to anyone whose kid is curious to try the sport.

My son attended SGA Ballard for almost two years. He finished all but a couple of the level 1 skills the first year and then made no progress after that. In the two years at SGA he had many different coaches and often the assigned coach was absent and a substitute was used. Some of the coaches clearly didn't want to teach boys and transitioned to girls gymnastics as soon as they could. My son made very little progress and became discouraged after a year. It was so boring but I made him stick with it because I kept telling him it would get better. We emailed one of his coaches and asked for help. My son lost interest and started just talking with other boys and when I asked the coach why he wasn't progressing they blamed my son for not paying attention. I agreed with them for a while and punished him for talking and I feel so guilty I did that now. In hindsight I'm so furious they blamed him for their failure to coach. Because after he went back to listening clearly and being a good leader for the younger boys, the class was still the same crap with no progress or coaching and of course that coach who blamed him left to go be with the girls. We emailed again and asked for a private lesson to help him progress and no private was ever offered. We kept asking his coaches what he needed to improve on and the answers were vague and not encouraging. We bought a pull up bar at home and worked with him to improve. My son is very tall and we never expected him to become a professional gymnast, but after almost two years of the same crap, no development, and constant switching of coaches I've had enough and I'm so angry we stuck with it as long as we did. I strongly recommend if you have a boy that you look elsewhere. My son learned more in a weeklong parks and recreation gymnastics camp than he did at two years at SGA. If you have a girl, I can say they do a good job with girls. I've watched many, many classes and girls do well here as the coaches really care about the girls. I recognize that boys' gymnastics is difficult because until puberty boys don't have the muscle mass to complete complex skills while girls can twirl and dance. But, that doesn't excuse the lack of care and lack of coaching and the EXCESSIVE amount of coaching changes and substitutes and general disregard for my son's progress. I spent over $3400 on this place and my son couldn't show you barely anything he learned. The boy gymnastics at SGA Ballard is a waste of time and a waste of a lot of money.

Dec 17-2024:
I’m writing a second review and I would post multiple 5 star reviews for having a special Olympic program that was added in July earlier this year! The program is open for neurodiverse children. There are 4 children with a coach (Coach Katelynn) and they do an amazing job giving individuals the chance to shine and transform ! I feel like when my child comes here she is totally a different and happier child! I want to especially thank the front desk (Julianna, Riley Kate, Hannah) and coaches Elaine and Ashlyn for all of their hard work and support!

This place is amazing, starting with the front desk Person Melia, who is so helpful and patient, taking her time to explain, always having that positive attitude. Also they have professional coaches, always supportive and passing positive comments for my kid.

This place is wonderful. My daughter is almost three and has been attending the toddler + parent classes here for awhile and she LOVES it. The staff is great and I have to give a special shoutout to Coach Luke for being so so great with the kids and really helping my daughter come out of her shell. Even if we just come for the open play, Coach Luke always takes the time to chat or play with the kids and make them feel welcome. I highly recommend SGA Ballard to all parents.

My young daughter has been taking classes here and going to indoor playground for about a year. We really appreciate the positive and supportive instruction. Coach Katelynn is amazing! She's very skilled at working with different ages, creates a learning environment that is comfortable, fun, and engaging for kids, and she checks in with parents. My daughter has also had Katie, Brooklin, Nina, Sydney, and Luke for various classes/substitutes. Every one of them have been fantastic!

I had an awful experience with the SGA indoor play today.

This was our first time trying out, and our 14-month-old kid wasn't able to get up after being bumped by a 4-5 years old boy who was running wildly fast. His father who wore a grey shirt thought it was okay so he only said "sorry" and ran away. I am so surprised that this father DIDN'T come and check on our kid, DIDN'T educate his kid to apologize, and DIDN'T educate his kid to STOP RUNNING and DON'T BUMP BABIES AND PEOPLE; instead, his father who is tall and strong ran wildly with his boys for the entire playtime. No one in the administration team took care of our baby and asked this family to STOP RUNNING.

I am very disappointed with the management of the indoor play. This kind of father who gives an extremely bad influence and impacts to the community should be asked to leave.

We went for drop in but my toddler loves it so much we decided to see what the classes cost. Their website is a nightmare but I found a link that said β€œclasses Sept. 2021- Aug. 2022” and a link to their pricing. The details button for the class we were going to sign up for showed nothing about start date or price. I remembered September to August and figured that was their next class that wasn’t full and we signed up. They do do an automatic enrollment and we did not want to be on the hook for a second month if our daughter turned out not to be ready for this. So I called them to make sure I understood the procedure. Turns out we were enrolled as of now (Not September) they were understanding and refunded us.

TL;DR their website is *bad*, their pricing is opaque and they auto-renew every month, even for toddlers. But drop-in has been great and they were very understanding of my error. I am hoping we can get our daughter into a class once her sleep schedule has been adjusted. 9 is just too early for her right now.

My step daughter attended gym classes at SGA Ballard and Lake City for many years. The teachers were truly mentors for her and helped her tremendously in all aspects of her life. My step daughter gained confidence in herself and the work ethic she learned at SGA has translated in to many areas of her life. I enjoyed watching the well executed meets and was super happy with our experience at SGA. Now that my step daughter is grown I have continued my relationship with SGA over the years and sell my active wear products to them. The management team is always professional and have been a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend SGA

Some decent coaches (and some we've loved) but this place seems to be poorly run from the top down. Random weeks off (same cost for parents whether classes are in session or not) for summer break, holidays, gym clean up, etc. Rather than prorate the monthly fee, they offer to let families come in during a designated time once a week, to join a mixed-skills class and go through rotations.

I have no idea if coaches are paid for these forced breaks - I certainly hope they are.

Within the "leveling up" system, there are clear guidelines for promotion to next level but those guidelines are not followed by staff. For their "competitive star league" - make sure your child's group will have more than 6 kids as scoring skews in favor of larger groups and literally penalizes smaller teams (lowest scores dropped from larger groups - not so for smaller teams, so averages are elevated when more kids are on a team). I engaged with the leader of the Star League program and was told that they're always searching for ways to improve the system" but my recommendation seems to have been roundly disregarded.

For parents spending hours at SGA, it's a small thing, but the benches for viewing are child-sized (not fit for adults) so they are UNCOMFORTABLE and downright impossible if you have any knee, ankle, or back issues.

I appreciate the skills my kids have developed here--balance, cartwheels, continuing despite repeated failure (see above for scoring system)--but also have been very frustrated by the poor communication, the "always irritated" girls behind the counter (even annoyed when told that kids received an electric shock from a water fountain), and frankly, I'd expect more from a program at this price.

On the recommendation of a friend we started classes for our 7 year old in Sept (2018). The teachers and staff are always friendly, polite, professional and great with kids. My 7 year old is usually pretty well behaved but there have been a few classes where she was testing the teacher (not listening well, doing things she was asked not to, not doing the things she was asked to do, etc) and it was always dealt with quickly but with the utmost kindness and from the perspective of the teacher wanting to make sure all kids are safe. At the 7yo age the class focuses mostly on the fundamentals of gymnastics and her skills are coming along nicely. My daughter loves the circuits they do, all classes start in the warm up area then branch into different skill areas like the beam, uneven bars, etc. The layout is perfect for this constant rotation and allows for variety in the order skills are practiced. There are stadium style seats for parents (not very comfortable so maybe bring a sweater to sit on) and a section for siblings to play in.

We have taken our 3 year old for toddler time on a couple of rainy weekends and it was great. There is a lot of different equipment for the kids to use.

Tickets typically sell out on weekends (usually see disappointed kids and parents walking away), but you can stop by earlier in the day to purchase before hand.

The place is great. The staff is awesome. The WiFi is a dream while watching the kids tumble and twirl.
I'd give a solid 5 stars if the patent seating was better. I know a nice aluminum bleacher is perfectly adequate and I doubt many complain to the desk. But we all hate the bleachers...and complain to each other about the cold back pain after a long day at work. I'll bet we could all fit on something more comfortable.
Still love the place though!

The best place I've yet found in Seattle to bring a young kid where they can do just about whatever they want. This place would have been a dream when I was a kid. Foam pits, trampolines, bouncy floors, rope swings, rings, and large foam blocks in vinyl for climbing. I just wish they were open to the public longer than 1 hour.
