I’ve been going to Seattle Strength and Performance at the Phinney Ridge location for over 6 months now and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to join. The best aspect for me is that everyone is welcome there, no matter your level of fitness, age, or abilities. It’s very chill and I don’t feel concerned about what I’m wearing or how I look. All of the coaches are very helpful, supportive, knowledgeable and friendly. I don’t ever feel uncomfortable asking questions about anything. Since the personal training sessions and classes have a small number of people, you actually get to know some of them - it feels a little like family. I know that I have made progress in my strength training and am building confidence. I would recommend this gym if you want to stay away from places that have a lot of people and seem more interested in appearances.

If you're thinking about checking out SSP, here's your sign to just do it! I didn't think I'd ever be the person to look forward to going to a gym, but SSP has been such a positive, encouraging, inclusive, and friendly atmosphere that it's been enjoyable to integrate going regularly into my routine. Thank you SSP for kicking my butt!

I absolutely love SSP! The coaches, facility, and programs are top notch. The personal training has been the perfect workout for me and they tailor each session to your needs and focus. The classes are a great way to mix up the training sessions and get a fantastic workout in throughout the week. The culture at SSP also stands out to me as they really emphasis community and make everyone feel included. 10/10 for SSP!

Great community, great coaches, and great workouts that leave you sweaty and feeling stronger. It’s awesome to see my strength build week over week, and nice to have the accountability built in to drive the consistency I wasn’t getting with home workouts. The gym is inclusive, and caters to a wide range of fitness and characters—and is also a great chance to meet folks in the neighborhood. Highly recommend!

Started a few weeks ago and love it already. This is a gym that meets you where you are and motivates you with kindness and support; every trainer I've worked with has been great (and shout out to Taylor, who is awesome). I've tried to get strength training to stick and it's never worked for me before joining SSP. At SSP, you get a plan built to your specific goals and have constant access to a coach to help you with form and to modify the plan on the fly as needed. In my experience both the coaches, and the other members, are really friendly and I feel like it's a low judgement and inclusive environment.

As someone who’s been training for years, I felt like I was in a workout rut—workouts felt repetitive, progress stalled, and motivation was fading. Joining Seattle Strength and Performance on Phinney Ridge completely changed that.
Their group personal training format is a game-changer. You get the expertise of top-tier coaches who genuinely care about your goals, combined with the energy and accountability of a small, focused group. The programming is smart, progressive, and tailored to challenge you without burning you out.
If you’re experienced but stuck, this is the place that will reignite your progress and remind you why you fell in love with training in the first place.

I’ve been a member of SSP for 2+ years and it’s so much more than just a gym. I previously didn’t have much experience strength training, but feel much more confident navigating a traditional gym. I love my weekly workouts with the same friends, and the coaches create such a fun, supportive, and empowering environment to push you outside of your comfort zone and get stronger. I’ve been impressed with how much stronger I’ve gotten since joining. Big thanks to the awesome Phinney coaches I get the privilege to train with - Taylor, Alex, Dalton, and Camaira - y’all make working out something I look forward to ♥️

Camaira has been great for me since I met her half a year ago for my assessment. Since then, she has been my primary PT. Her coaching style matches my need for building confidence after having injuries in both my ankle and shoulder and taking almost a 2 year hiatus from exercise. She is intuitive and knows how to push just enough without me feeling pressured to always be in the “model” position. Always gently correcting and giving me time to pay attention to my own posture and make my own corrections as I go. It’s empowering and I feel so much stronger and confident. Thanks Camaira!

I have been going to SSP for about 6 months and enjoying my experience so far. The coaches are great and they listen to you in real time and during each session for adjustments and feedback you want or need to the plan they create for you. It's a welcoming environment and community. I love having someone else to rely on with more knowledge than me, telling me what to be working on - it makes getting up and working out a lot simpler and less things for me to think about which is a big plus. I enjoy their small group approach. I do wish it was more affordable for a solo income person like me since it's often 5-6 people in the small shared space, but at least the exercises and humans are great :) I recommend SSP!

I have been a member at SSP for 10 months and my only regret is not becoming one sooner. The trainers are fantastic and develop personalized programs that promote physical growth. The small format personalized training has motivated me to achieve results that I would have not thought possible 10 months ago. The culture at SSP is welcoming and inclusive of all. I have never felt intimated due to the hands-on and positive support by the coaches and other members. I look forward to my weekly time here!

I started going to SSP a few months ago with no formal background in strength training. I just hoped to learn proper form for deadlifts and barbell squats so I could eventually walk into a gym and feel confident. Every trainer I’ve worked with has been fantastic: incredibly knowledgeable about body mechanics and form, and genuinely caring about their clients as whole people. Any time I had a nagging injury, the trainers adapted my routine in a way that felt doable and accessible. I’ve felt supported, challenged, and welcomed every step of the way. Can’t recommend SSP enough!

I've been to a lot of gyms over the years, Orange Theory, and various other fitness classes, SSP is hands down the best.
The trainers are fantastic, know everyone by name and both strength and metabolic conditioning classes are intimate due to available space. It is a community with monthly events happening to get together.
I personally really benefit from no mirrors at their studio as I get to focus more on form and am more determined. I love their attitude towards fitness which is unique in the normal fitness world full of focus weight loss, dressing to look attractive, and pressure on what body type you have which makes a gym accessible - or not.
I could go on but I'll leave it there. They are an absolute gem in the world of fitness and I feel inspired to keep going to maintain my health and to see the same faces.

I've been training at SSP for over a year now, and it’s made a huge difference in my life! I'm stronger than I've ever been, and I’m seeing real results—my muscles are more defined and visible, and I’m feeling better than ever.

I (60M) was a last-minute addition to backcountry ski trip, two weeks to get ready so no special training or preparation. Helicoptered into a remote hut in B.C., human-powered skiing for a week, climbed a couple thousand vertical feet each day on skis. It was a fairly rugged experience, e.g., cold, no running water, intense physical exertion. I felt strong and stronger each day. No injuries. I could not have done this a year ago. I credit steady progression of strength training at SSP for 1.5 years (and cardio work on my own) for making this trip a success. It's really great to know I'm ready for adventures like this even when they are a last-minute surprise. Thanks SSP!

I really enjoyed my trial membership with SSP. Most of my classes were Personal Training classes under the direction of Taylor, who was a pleasure to work with. PT classes are small (3-5 people) and I felt well taken care of by Taylor, who would often suggest ways to improve my form, check in on how I felt and provide words of encouragement throughout each class. Initially, I was interested in the group classes but after trying Personal Training for the first time, I think it is worthwhile to do PT if one can afford it.

I started at Seattle Strength and Performance about two months ago, and I really like their trainers and setting in which clients work in small groups (3-5 per group), but everyone does their own training program specially tailored for them.
I have mostly worked with Taylor at the Greenwood location, and she’s amazing! The training program is challenging (at least for me, a middle-aged beginner!), but Taylor is also accommodating, encouraging and an overall fun person to work with. She balances the pace well for each client and keeps the training “flowing”.
The clients seem to be of various ages and fitness levels, and I have never felt out of place. They also offer group classes for 10-12 people, but I haven’t tried those yet.

I joined SSP in Phinney Ridge a few months ago and can't say enough great things about it. It is an intimate space, with equally intimate classes and training sessions, that has a strong sense of community. Every instructor I have worked with there knows how to train and is incredibly kind and funny. They make working out fun while sneakily making sure you are always getting a full body workout. I started with SSP because the idea of personal training had always been intriguing to me. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’d stood in a “normal” gym, totally unsure of what to do, in what order, how many and how heavy. With SSP all of that guesswork is gone. I’m not only developing the outputs of strength, fitness, and functional mobility, but also the inputs; the skill set of how to develop functional strength. Because of SSP, I know that I am setting up myself for a healthy future regardless of where or how I exercise.

I generally do not do Google reviews. However, on behalf of Seattle Strength & Performance (SSP), I am making an exception because they are a remarkable company.
I have been a client of SSP-Phinney since early July and my experience there has been transformative. I have too many years of body fitness neglect and I have found the SSP folks to be supportive, encouraging, and enlightened. I feel stronger, balanced and capable beyond what I have felt in years. I have been working on home projects that require some heavy lifting and repeated up and down from a kneeling position; much improved due to training at SSP. Bottom line, SSP has been a great fit for this old guy. Imagine the benefits to you.

I have additionally taken some of their powerlifting master classes and have never been more confident behind a barbell. I would highly recommend SSP!

I've been a member at SSP for a year now and have only visited the Phinney Ridge location though I've wanted to check out their Queen Anne and now West Seattle locations. Regardless, I cannot recommend this place enough!
Since day 1 all of the staff and coaches have been very supportive and encouraging while starting with their basics to now leveling up and trying new exercise's every week. I have always appreciated that the coaches check in with you at the start of each session to make sure they aren't pushing you too hard and can find ways to adapt their programs to your needs, especially if you have any injuries holding you back. While I've worked with a few of their coaches, Alex has also found ways to make the training fun and try new things tailored to my own fitness goals.
If you're new to working out or have been doing it for years and need to try new things, give SSP a try! I've been regularly going to the gym for years but have vastly expanded my knowledge of exercises and improved technique this past year thanks to the team at SSP.

I have been going to personal training at SSP for a little over a year now, about 2x a week. Besides the fact that this is the accountability and structure I've been needing for years, the environment here is so welcoming and inclusive of everyone. I think the trainers do a great job of pushing my limits while respecting my energy levels and making adjustments where needed. I love that I feel stronger and that I've been able to be more consistent than in my past. Thanks SSP!

SSP has been the only gym or workout program of any kind I have stuck with long term, going on 9 months now! I really attribute that to the personalized plans they have, and the upbeat, welcoming environment. All of the coaches I have worked with so far have been wonderful, although my personal training days are mainly with Alex. She always pushes me just enough when I need it, but also knows sometimes I just need to take an easy day.

SSP Phinney is a small-but-mighty training gym with fantastic coaches. I'm inspired by the people training around me -- showcasing various body types and fitness levels. I like the small group coaching because I like to be able to get clear guidance and then focus on what I need to do without feeling self-conscious as I do my sets. The positive environment and the constantly changing workouts keeps me coming back.

SSP is an exceptional facility that focuses on each client as an individual. I started at SSP while recovering from a spine injury that I obtained at different gym and have found their approach to be both professional and caring. The trainers are knowledgeable and kind, and training is customized based on your individual goals. SSP is absolutely one of a kind, I highly recommend them!

Since joining SSP, I’ve been nothing but impressed with the level of quality workouts and support I get from trainers and staff like Taylor, Camaira and Grayson. The team provides custom solutions to helping me stay active and fit. They care personally, always showing a willingness to make adjustments to my workouts to meet me where I am. As a father of 2 young infants, it’s not always easy to make the time for myself, but this community has made it that much easier to hold myself accountable to maintaining my fitness goals. Couldn’t recommend SSP more for someone looking for a new gym in the Phinney area!

I can't say enough positive things about SSP Phinney! The trainers are excellent - super professional, but also create a really fun, nurturing and familial environment. The programs are specific and highly tailored to the needs of each client, which is important to me, as I have a lot of unique health challenges. I feel so much stronger and healthier since joining last year. It's been a wonderful experience all around.

Wow! I can't say enough good things about this incredible gym in Phinney Ridge. From the moment I walked in, I knew I had found something special. The welcoming atmosphere and inclusive culture make everyone feel like they belong, regardless of fitness level or background.
The coaches here are truly exceptional. Coach Chris, Taylor, and Camaira are not just knowledgeable and skilled, but they genuinely care about each member's progress and well-being. They take the time to understand individual goals and provide personalized guidance, pushing you to achieve more than you thought possible while ensuring proper form and safety.
What sets this gym apart is its positive impact on both personal health and the community. Since joining, I've seen remarkable improvements in my strength, endurance, and overall well-being. The supportive environment has helped me stay consistent with my fitness journey, and I've never felt better.
But it's not just about individual gains - this gym has become a hub for community building. The friendships formed here extend beyond workout sessions, creating a network of support and encouragement that uplifts the entire Phinney Ridge neighborhood.
The facilities are top-notch, always clean and well-maintained, with a great variety of equipment to suit different workout styles. Whether you're into strength training, cardio, or group classes, there's something for everyone.
If you're looking for a gym that offers more than just a place to work out, look no further. This Phinney Ridge gem has transformed my life and the lives of many others in our community. Five stars don't do it justice - this place deserves ten!

SSP-Phinney rocks!!!
I’ve been so fortunate to work with an amazing group of trainers at this wonderful neighborhood gym.
Everyone is so supportive, welcoming and inclusive!
I’d never been involved in a gym before and took a chance at SSP as part of my rehab following a total knee replacement. I’m also a senior concerned with losing muscle mass and mobility as I age. I’m so grateful I joined this very special facility!
I encourage anyone at any age and body type to strength train at SSP-Phinney. It has truly been a game changer for me in a few short months and now I’m committed!

My first strength class exceeded my expectations. I have not attended a traditional gym since I was in my twenties as I hated everything about the atmosphere. SSP was totally different. I left energized, feeling positive and full of potential. It was easy to see how working regularly here with an instructor like Britt would allow me to get stronger.

I really enjoyed my time at SSP! The instructors are thoughtful, take the time to get to know you and explain technique. The classes can be modified for any limitations but the exercises provide a great workout and target every area. The app is easy to navigate and never had a problem getting into the classes I wanted. Would strongly recommend attending if you are looking for a class focused on weightlifting and increasing strength.

This is a review from Blythe M. Have really enjoyed working with Britt for nutrition and weight loss guidance. She works with me online since I do not live or work near SSP. She gives easy to implement guidance that work with the foods I like and the way I eat. She knows me well enough to know that guilt and shame are ineffective and encourages reasonable and incremental changes in my diet and exercise to bring about lasting changes. As a post-menopausal woman, I seem to gain weight by looking at food... Thankful for Britt and her gentle nudges which move me in the direction of a healthier lifestyle that will serve me in the long run. Unrealistic fasting and cutting out all carbs works in the short term, but lifestyle changes are what I need to make the leap to a healthier future. Thanks Britt!

I have absolutely loved my time at SSP! In the past my progress and motivation to work out would quickly fizzle because I lacked guidance, and I would just as quickly become overwhelmed when seeking resources on the internet. All of the SSP trainers are so knowledgeable, and they develop such great fitness plans that never feel repetitive or complicated. Because of them, I’ve made incredible gains. The PT sessions help me focus on personal goals while the classes keep things challenging and fun! Chris and his team have created an amazing and inclusive community focused on fitness as a whole. No matter your abilities, SSP is here to create a welcoming environment where you can achieve your goals. I haven’t felt this strong and healthy for years, and I have SSP to thank for it!

SSP is not just a gym, it's a community where coaches and members encourage each other in strength training and do their best to make everyone feel included. I started at SSP very nervous about strength training due to a knee issue that had flared up and concerns about whether I could learn proper form as someone who is starting to lift later in life. The tailored coaching from SSP put those concerns to rest, as I was able to improve my metrics without aggravating my knees. It was also inspiring to see people in very diverse life stages all finding the workout routine they need at SSP. Highly recommend for those in Seattle looking for an encouraging community for exercise that truly believes strength training is for everyone.

SSP coaches and members have been so supportive and welcoming. I was nervous about getting started, but SSP really models its belief that “strength training is for everyone.” Every coach is clearly committed to each member‘s safety and progress. I can do more than I thought after a few months of regular classes (and have had really helpful feedback from coaches about body mechanics to stay injury-free). The climate is so respectful in all ways, and I am inspired by other members. I feel really fortunate to have such a high quality small business located right in Phinney/Greenwood.

My husband and I have loved being at SSP - it is such a great community they have built!
While all of their teachers are fantastic, I want to give a special shout out to Danny. As a teacher myself, I appreciate all the nuances, scaffolding, and differentiation that has to go into teaching diverse groups. Danny is up on blocks, getting a better view of the class to observe everyone's form, he puts out mini white boards with the circuit information so we don't lose time walking over to look at the big board, he also recognizes when there is fatigue and how to help people push through it to keep us going. All of those things and more (including his positive, welcoming attitude), I think deserve to be called out!
If you are looking to be part of a welcoming, judgment free community, I couldn't recommend SSP more.

My SSP experience has been nothing short of amazing and joining this community was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Before SSP I’d never even touched a dumbbell weighing more than 15 lbs - wild - but learning how to lift from the most knowledgeable and supportive coaches ever has made me fall in love with strength training and given me a sense of accomplishment and confidence that I haven’t felt in a long time. Coach Natalie’s squat masterclass was especially transformative for me mentally and physically just overcoming a fear of new things and watching myself get stronger every week. Workouts at SSP and getting to know members and coaches on a personal level also pulled me through a really tough time in my life this summer and that’s something I’m incredibly grateful for. Excited to try the upcoming deadlift and bench masterclasses, see what strength milestones I hit next year, and root for other community members as they hit their goals :)

It has been such a great experience at Seattle Strength & Performance over the past 15 months. As intimidating as it can be to take the plunge in to a small gym, I found myself jumping right in and having so much fun. Personally, I have noticed my mountain bike rides have gotten easier and faster as a result of my training!

SSP helps me to build strength so I can do the things that I love to do (e.g., backpacking, hiking) without pain or injury. It sounds trivial, but age and an office job have taken their toll and SSP helps with a course correction. I also love and appreciate the personal attention from the coaches.
