We usually like playing this course but our past round on the Sept 13th was 5 hours and 45 minutes! That was shorter than it should have been as we passed a foursome as they went in to get food between holes 9 & 10. Otherwise it would have been nearly 6 hours! We were waiting after every shot for at least 8 to 10 minutes so it was brutal.
We talked to the staff member in the pro shop and his response was "sorry, but we're short staff as kids have gone back to school so we didn't have anyone to marshal the course".
We're not sure that was the issue or having too many players and not enough time between times. As it didn't seem to be slow in front of us, as everyone in front and behind us was waiting.
Unless you like sitting around a lot between shots, we don't recommend golfing there.

Beautiful golf course with the view of the lake. Greens are in good condition as are the sand pits and fairways. My only complaint is the amount of geese poop you have to play through. One hole I was so grossed out I had to quickly move through the area so I wouldn't get sick. I wish there was some way they could either get rid of the geese or pick up the poop daily.

One of my favorite local courses, but today was very disappointing. Today is my birthday and supposed to get a free round of golf today. I recently had surgery that prevents me from playing for a few months. I explained this to the desk attendant, and he refused to give me a rain check. On my doctors orders, I cannot play for 6months. Very sad customer service.

It is a great lakeside golf course surrounded cozy houses. However, I recommend this course tee times after 10am in Fall season. Early morning, it has wet greens and fairways by morning dew.

Great course. Friendly staff. Carts are in pretty bad shape.
Went on a rainy morning, which is normally ok for golf. I wish I would have been told the condition of the course due to rain - many holes were so waterlogged it was nearly impossible to play. However, the beauty of the course is remarkable and a definite must play course if in the area.

Great course and great service. Played Aug 17. The best thing is they have junior rates. Golf courses in B.C have stopped this and it is unfortunate. Will definitely recommend this course

Brutal pace of play. Played Saturday. 5 hours and 20 minutes. Never saw a Marshal. Waited on pretty well every hole. It is not the golfers responsibility to maintain flow. (Played Shuksan on Sunday in less than 4 hours).
Course was in good shape. Carts are old but didnβt break down luckily.

Very poorly run, felt like we had backs turned on us when slow play and foolishness was happening in front of us. Very unprofessional and very over priced for what they have going on at the course. Itβs really to bad as it is advertised to Canadians as a course worth making the trip too. Was very excited to come down and frankly left very dissatisfied and disappointed with the day.

Beautiful course, front nine and back nine total different experience. Just the greens are not in their best shapes, hopefully with weather getting better, green should improve.

This course is a beauty. Very playable front 9 and a very different but equally as enjoyable back 9. Tees, fairways and greens were all in good condition.
Also, the breakfast burrito was terrific!
Would loved to have seen a course marshall out there to keep up the pace of play. Had a painfully slow group in front of us that wouldnβt let us play through and had fallen 2-3 holes behind the group in front of them.

First time playing this course and wasn't sure what to expect. Such an amazing course and great people working there. Accommodated us being late and slotted us in. Course conditions were great especially considering the time of year (early April). The course itself has spectacular views, great layout and we really enjoyed the different terrain. Front 9 is flatter and wider and back 9 takes you up into the hills for some challenging but enjoyable elevation changes.
Next time we're in Washington, Sudden Valley is first on the list. Great value as well.

First time out to this course yesterday and really enjoyed it! Lucked out with the weather as it was warm and dry, a treat for this time of year. Interesting layout for the front and back nines. The front plays easier with forgiving fairways but a bit extra length. Some tight dog legs on the back but not punishing. A few of the greens were in rough shape but I'm curious to see how everything plays in the summer. Pace was very fast as we were a few of the only people on the course, luckily. The gentleman in the pro shop was friendly and accommodating. Probably a five star course after fixing the couple of greens that need some love and avoiding groups of 6 to go out together (didn't slow us down until the last few holes and wasn't a bother because it is the holidays). Looking forward to the next round here.

Front side is preferable to the backside and a couple of holes border the lake with excellent views. However, the prices are high for midweek play and the value is lacking. $70 per person for 18 and a cart midweek? This is October rates and the greens were punched within the week. It's a nice course but it's not that nice.

Front 9 beauty, wide open. Back 9 beauty, wooded hills. Rather green fairways for late August. Fall greens work has helped drainage and conditions for play should be good through winter. Though staying in fairways helps considerably.

Not my favorite course by a longshot...lol. But has some beautiful views of the water on the front 9. The back 9 are more hilly and tight with a great drop off the hillside on one of the holes. It really plays like two different courses. The front 9 is wider and more open for poor golfers like myself. The back 9 is more rolling, with tighter fairways between the trees. The bonus is that the course ends at the clubhouse and drinks can be had while sitting on the elevated deck, enjoying the day.

Excellent golf course in a beautiful setting. Worth the drive from Seattle in my opinion. Especially with how crowded some courses are these days. Sudden valley is in great shape at the moment with really nice greens and fairways. There's some challenging holes especially on the back 9. Some really tight tee boxes will test your game for sure. Course is ran very well and usually finish in around 4 hours which is actually pretty good these days for a public course in my opinion. I'd recommend this course to anyone looking for a better public track in the Seattle area.

I canβt speak to the quality of the course when it comes to playing since I donβt actually play. However, the biggest perk of having this course in our community is that Thursdays and Saturdays after 6pm in the summer you can walk the part of the course near the lake. They open it for βfoot golfβ (people playing golf with soccer balls) but you can just walk it if you like (i.e. no purchase necessary). Just park by the club house and start at hole 1 and follow the direction up to hole 9. You will walk right by the lake in areas that are usually out of reach for βregular peopleβ (who donβt play). Pretty amazing!

The tale of two courses. The front side is flat and runs around Lake Whatcom, while the back side heads up into the hills. The front side is more open while the back side is narrow with houses all around. The greens are in great shape and the fairways are lush. All in all an enjoyable experience.

Played on 8/11/18. Ran into a summer rainstorm for about 20 minutes on hole#3. Backdrop against the lake was marvelous! Beautiful layout. The back 9 looked like Augusta and offered a real test in accuracy. Followed up our round with some food/cocktails at El Agave! What a hidden gem. If this course was closer to Seattle, I'd be here every week.

The thing I really like about Sudden Valley golf course is the distinction between the front and back nines. The front nine is relatively open and flat and winds its way serenely around the shores of Lake Whatcom. Swimmers, sail boats, water skiers and fishermen are all part of the front nine experience. Fairway landing areas are also a bit more generous on the front nine and the greens are generally larger.
The back nine, however, is a completely different deal. Most of it is played on a hill overlooking the lake. The fairways are lined with huge evergreens and placement off the tee is priority one. In my opinion, Sudden Valley is one of Washingtonβs hidden gems. It offers plenty of variety, and with water hazards in play on 14 of the 18 holes, as well as 47 bunkers sprinkled throughout the course; it can also offer plenty of test. Sudden Valley is one of my favorite courses and definitely worth a play!

Great course. Flat front 9 to tune-up before you hit the hills on the back 9. Better have your 'short game' working if your not there in regulation. Absolutely need a Pro V1 type ball for these greens. Played this course in August. Not much roll on the tee shots. Almost US Open type conditions if you don't hit the fairway.

Would have given 4 stars for the course, but Canadian's Beware! They advertise that they take "Cnd at par" but not even close and intentionally deceptive. They have a rate for Canadians where they take Cnd cash at par, but you are paying the US equivalent. Unlike courses like N Bellingham, or Semiamhoo, who don't intentionally mislead you.
