I’ve been taking Monique’s classes at The House of Pilate in Camas for 2 years, and I can honestly say I feel so much stronger and more flexible since starting. She has such a warm and encouraging way of teaching that makes you feel comfortable while still pushing you to do your best. Every class leaves me feeling accomplished and energized. I absolutely love this Pilates class! Monique is wonderful—knowledgeable, encouraging, and great at customizing for each person’s level. She meets everyone where they are while still pushing us to work hard and get the most out of every session. The energy is high, but the focus on form and precision makes it incredibly effective.

Monique has changed my life in so many ways that a five star review does not due her justice.
Her knowledge, encouragement, and professionalism combined with an incredible studio and equipment make any class worth more than the cost.
I knew I had a bad back - but I thought I was in good shape since I was an athlete through college.
When I found out how unbalanced I actually was, and how functionally weak I was, I knew I had to continue. After a year I was more shredded than I had been in college.
I moved away for a year and the first thing I did when I came back to the PNW was to begin Pilates again.

I can’t say enough about how grateful I am for Monique and The House Pilates. Her deep knowledge and passion create an environment that pushes you to want to be your very best self. Strength, especially in my core, has always been a challenge for me, but something about her classes just makes everything click. Monique has an almost sixth sense when it comes to the body. She can instantly recognize what’s “off” before you even say a word, whether it’s back tension, hip tightness, pelvic floor imbalances, etc. Her ability to pinpoint and address these things through thoughtful adjustments and guidance is nothing short of magic.

She is the best at what she does because she challenges you while always respecting your body’s needs, offering the perfect balance of push and support. I can’t imagine my pilates journey without her and will never stop taking her classes!

Monique has professionalism, ethics, care, intelligence, and experience behind her work. I enjoy being in her beautiful studio: her presence is inspiring because she walks her talk. It is also a down-to-earth situation where she meets you where you are and helps you grow.

Workouts are nearly immediately effective but are also part of a long-term game. Monique is more like a tough and aesthetically-minded PE who thoughtfully guides you toward correcting the pesky weaknesses and imbalances. All the while, Monique helps to safely and methodically build a strong and comfortable muscular and postural support.

Because exercises are slow, the focus inevitably shifts towards taking full breaths,  noticing the form, and re-aligning the self according to the body’s feedback. I love going to House Pilates because it is a safe, fun, and profoundly healing experience of challenge, presence, growth, and connection.

After many years of fighting nagging recurrent injuries, I was hoping to find something or someone that could get my biomechanics in order so I could once again enjoy doing the activities I love, pain free. I had not had much luck with physical therapists or sports medicine practitioners, so a friend recommended I try pilates. I didn’t know much about it but was willing to give anything a shot. All I can say is….wow! After my first session, I was pain-free for an hour – which was more relief than I had had in months. I was immediately hooked. Pilates focuses on alignment and correct body mechanics, and then strengthening those proper mechanics so that you move optimally in your day-to-day life. You also learn to tune in to your body and recognize what muscles you are activating during each movement, so that you can really focus on working specific muscle groups (and not letting other muscles take over and compensate). I have lifted weights since I was an athletic teenager, but this is the type of total body strengthening that I have always wanted.

And of course this is all facilitated by Monique. She brings her knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, physical therapy, and athletic training all together to guide you in the workout that *you* need – not some one-size-fits-all type of workout. I am constantly amazed at how she can watch how you are moving and make a super minor adjustment (I’m talking millimeters) and how you can feel the effect it has on your alignment and the muscles you are targeting. It forces you to really work on your weaknesses and align your body properly. And as you get stronger, she keeps adding more load and challenging your body, so that you do not plateau – you just keep getting stronger. This is particularly important for us women that are getting older (ie, mid/late 40s) and are looking to set ourselves up well for our menopausal years.

Lastly, everyone I have met at The House Pilates has been welcoming and kind, and people cheer each other on. Everyone has their own personal goals they are working on, but we are all there working on them together. Completing a hard workout is easier when you’re surrounded by good humans.

The House of Pilates is outstanding and words aren’t enough to describe the difference this has made in my life! I came here a year ago with a friend to try a class and after talking to Monique decided to keep coming. Monique understood my medical limitations, is trained in PT as well as Pilates and has the ability to assess your needs and design a program that works for you. She is truly passionate about her work and has the background, training and skill set to delve into the root cause of issues which may limit your flexibility, strength and overall health. I was amazed in my first session with her that I wasn’t breathing properly, an issue I have been dealing with for most of my life. Just fixing that (something I have to continually work on) made a huge difference and the classes with both Monique and Megan, are making a huge improvement in my health and wellbeing. I still have a long ways to go, but I am excited that I feel stronger, have improved posture, have found muscles that I never knew I had and have made visible improvements. On another note, my husband saw the difference it was making to me and decided to attend a session a few months ago. I highly recommend Monique and The House Pilates! I had taken fitness classes from her previously at another studio. A year ago I was looking for someone to help rehab my hip in order to delay needing surgery. Also, perimenopause and busy career had me looking to get into better shape overall. I sought out Monique because of her extensive physical therapy knowledge in addition to fitness training. If there was anyone who could help my hip to avoid surgery, I knew she’d be the one. The House Pilates and Monique have changed my life! I had aggressive breast cancer in 2023 and after major surgeries and 16 rounds of chemo I was feeling sick and weak. My brother insisted I try Pilates so I tried one of the big chains and didn’t like the vibe but I found Monique through a friend and I LOVE the way she teaches and pushes me. Now I am stronger than I have ever been in my life, my posture has greatly improved, I can do things that when I started would have been impossible and she helped me build a backside!!! It was about one year ago (late January 2023) when I decided to "try" Pilates. Monique came highly recommended to me by a very trusted / good friend / golf buddy. I was hesitant. Don't be a procrastinator like me!

I wish I had started earlier. Think of it like you might consider your financial future. What seems like a small investment each month adds up over time, accrues interest, and you will be amazed at the cumulative results.

If you're at all curious/interested, I HIGHLY recommend The House Pilates. Monique is one-of-a-kind. She has taught me so much over the past year (not just about Pilates!) I was intimidated initially, so I signed up for a private session, primarily to help ease my lower back pain. Fast forward one year: my lower back pain is GONE. I am stronger and more confident and I have met some of the most amazing people with stories similar to mine. We encourage each other. We laugh (sometimes I might curse!) together. For me, it has evolved from "I should probably do some exercise or something..." into "I cannot WAIT for my next session!" Monique keeps it fun and inspires me to keep learning, get stronger, challenge myself, and be a stronger, healthier person.

PS: I should mention that I go 1-3 times a week... this is DOABLE! You DO NOT have to commit a ridiculous amount of gym time!

Since starting in April, 2023,with Monique at The House Pilates I have dropped 3% body fat and developed more lean muscle and I move more easily, stand up straighter, feel stronger and have more energy. I was in constant leg and hip pain last year, taking steroids, anti-inflammatories and going to PT several times a week because my doctors thought I needed hip replacements. Pilates at The House Pilates has changed my body and how I think about my daily movements. Before Monique, I thought I was pretty “fit” but it wasn’t until a few sessions with Monique where I realized I was weak in so many areas, and overusing my other muscles to compensate for those weaknesses. It has been a long time coming, but we have slowly strengthened those areas and I am now better at engaging those “weak” muscles throughout the day and with my other exercises. The House Pilates is not a mindlessly “go through the motion” with music blaring kind of class, each movement is intentional and purposeful. Each movement is done under the watchful eye of a Pilates PERFECTIONIST who can make minor adjustments to challenge or accommodate you. House of Pilates is very conveniently located and a nicely equipped studio.
Monique has been tremendous at introducing me to the Pilates reformer ( torture machine) and so helpful showing me the various forms of exercise, stretches and correct positioning (for more torture) .
I have MS and hip impingement ( yeah it sucks) but Monique altered some of the moves to address my issues.
Every time I come close to canceling my session but I end up going anyways and I’m glad I went every time because I came away from each session feeling better than when I started.
I plan to sign up for more sessions. I highly recommend House of Pilates and Monique is amazing !

She finds where you're comfortable, where the work is hard, but not that hard. Then she pushes you beyond. The your body begins to change. You gain strength. You gain focus. You achieve a deeper level of connection with your body and all it's capable of. Even if you didn't think it was.

I can not recommend pilates with Monique enough! I’ve been doing twice a week private pilates at The House for over a year now and also had my third baby. With Monique’s extensive education in pre and post natal exercise, I did pilates up until the day before my baby was born and had my fastest labor/delivery and EASIEST recovery. Even immediately after, my core and pelvic floor felt back to normal and not like I had just had a baby! My midwifes were impressed with my intact core, especially for a third pregnancy, and noted that it’s most often the “fit” women who have the worst abdominal separations, so they were impressed when I didn’t have one. I am convinced this is all from the purposeful plan Monique designed and implemented for me.

Every time I get in my car after finishing a session, I drive away feeing taller and just BETTER (when I first started, I literally wondered if my car seat was in a different position because my head was so much closer to the roof!). I feel strong and balanced, and long and lean rather than bulky. I’ve been off for 6 weeks after having my baby and my mind and body are literally CRAVING pilates with Monique.

Monique is a truly gifted teacher and a genuinely caring person. She is passionate about the health of the whole person. She is a friend while being a professional leader, and the workout is fun but purposeful. She fills the whole hour with your individualized plan and transitions from exercise to exercise quickly and seamlessly without being rushed. She balances strength moves with breathing, rehab/restorative moves, and flexibility. She has poured her heart and life into this business, with the hope of helping people, not just making money. Her studio and equipment are top notch. She is constantly continuing her education and always excitedly comes back from her latest convention and shares the new info she learned. I first met Monique when she was an instructor at another fitness studio in the area. Immediately, I knew she was something special. She has that fitness instructor magic that equal part scares you, encourages you, and makes you want to keep coming back again and again.

Finally, I made the leap to work with her on pilates and I am so glad that I did. Her workouts are perfectly challenging and complete. Her early morning 6AM small groups are the perfect way to start the day, and I'd still be going to those if I worked in Camas/didn't travel so much for work.
