The child care here is wonderful, and a huge upgrade from another facility in town with Small Students. I can tell the staff at the Y (especially SVAY) really care about my child and doing a good job. They are always doing activities and he always has stories to share about his day.
My only complaint is that I can’t get in the building! I have had to wait for other parents and staff members to let me in twice a day, every day for the entire summer. We have received probably a dozen key cards from the front desk, but they always stop working after a day. Emails and calls to resolve the issue went unanswered.
It kind of sucks getting dirty looks from other parents when they hold open the door (or just pretend I am not there) because I can’t unlock the door to drop off/retrieve my child. It’s become a joke in the family that we’re “going to go break into daycare”.

Enjoy working out here, but I’ve noticed it’s becoming increasingly dirty. There’s dust, dirt, and hair all over the floor and around all equipment and walls. I’ve told a few employees and there’s been no change. It’s bothersome to look around and see dirt all over the floor

Subject: Request for Facility Improvements at Our YMCA
Dear YMCA Manager/Team,
I hope this message finds you well. As a long-time member and supporter of the YMCA, I want to take a moment to share some honest feedback about the current state of our facility. While I deeply value the community and resources the YMCA provides, there are areas that are clearly overdue for serious attention and improvement.
The gym equipment is modern and well-maintained, which is appreciated. However, the basketball court and locker rooms are visibly outdated and no longer meet the standards expected from a facility of this caliber.
The basketball court, in particular, is in rough shape. It looks and feels like it hasn't been renovated in decades. The surface is hard on the joints, lacking the shock absorption and flexibility found in modern gym floors. Research has shown that outdated flooring can contribute to joint stress and overuse injuries—especially in the knees and ankles. Playing on this court simply doesn’t feel safe or supportive.
Similarly, the locker rooms are far below standard. It's not just a matter of cleanliness—they are outdated to the point where a full renovation is necessary. The layout, fixtures, and general atmosphere all feel worn down. There’s also a noticeable lack of hygiene guidelines or enforcement (e.g., shower shoes, no outdoor footwear in the sauna, proper towel use), which only adds to the issue. At this point, a complete overhaul is the only realistic solution.
Considering the high number of members
and the consistent revenue from memberships, the current state of these facilities does not reflect the quality the YMCA is known for. Investing in these much-needed renovations would not only improve safety and cleanliness but also elevate the member experience and community pride.
Thank you for your time and for considering this feedback. I genuinely believe this YMCA has incredible potential, and with some strategic improvements, it can become one of the best in the region.
Sincerely,
Stevens Point YMCA member

A room used specifically used for other activities that are not basketball would be awsome. The court floor is ruined from another activities and people wearing regular shoes they just wore outside in the snow and salt. Could definitely use a cleaning/waxing at the end of this winter. Not only that but it’s takes away from people who pay to use the facility. Love this ymca, but seriously lacking in this specific area.

This is a wonderful facility. I tried it out for 2 weeks & now have been a member for a couple of months. There is only one employee that doesn't match the rest of the wonderful people you'll meet here. 💞

Do not use the Drop In Child Care. Not enough staff per ratio of kids. Kids are sick all of the time, parents are still able to bring them and drop them off. There are 2 month Olds with 5 and 6 year Olds who do not listen, running around and throwing stuff, etc. Doesn't take much for something to hurt a 2 month old. Some of the staff is downright lazy. Terrible place for kids.

As a swimmer it can be difficult to get a lane at times but if you are willing to share a lane you will be fine. My main reason for even reviewing here is regarding the comments on the staff being rude. I have worked out here on and off for three years and have never had a single bad experience. I swim 6-8 miles a week so I spend quite a bit of time each work out and never not once have a seen a guard, desk workers, management, etc be anything but OVERLY polite and social..always smiling and helpful. My wife and son also use the exercise room near the adult locker rooms...again never once a bad experience. Don't believe everything you read. Sometimes you get treated as you treat others!

This Y has some nice facilities such as the swimming pool, gym, youth center, racquetball courts and gymnastics. However, the staff are rude and do not make for a positive atmosphere. Many of them display negative attitudes. I used to have a membership here, but I no longer enjoy going here due to the negative atmosphere. Don't expect customers to continue to want to come here if you can't have the decency to be professional.

There was nothing to do because they upped the racket ball age to 15 due to TWO immature kids, which is stupidity...I would not suggest wasting your money on this place😡😭

My family of four loves visiting this Y. They have a great drop in care for younger kids, so that I could work out when my kids were young. When they got too old for that there was a youth center, and a youth fitness center. It was perfect. The pool is beautiful and they have great early morning hours so that I can work out before work.

Of all the YMCA's that I have been involved with, I shall be cautious in returning to this one. Overall personality of staff is lacking vital soft skills as far as tone, compassion, concern, etc. While discussing this with an aquatics manager, my overall impression did not change as I was talked over, spoken down to, and left the conversation wondering why he bothered calling me in the first place to follow up on this concern. There seems to be an overall blanket assumption at this YMCA that care and compassion when dealing with people, families, and children is not necessary and may be caused from the management on down to the employee's. Whatever the issue is, it surely reflects poorly onto the well run YMCA's and to this wonderful community.
