I have used a couple different coaching services in the past, but when I signed up for the Marji Gesick duathlon I was in search of a coach who was well experienced both in running as well as mountain biking. Finding a quality multi-sport athlete/coach was important and coach Tyler K definitely fit the bill. Not only was he able to fit a quality plan around my schedule, but since he was intimately familiar with the race itself, his first-hand experience and advice was top-notch. All the prep paid off and everything went to plan as I was able to meet all of my race day goals. Definitely recommend!

Nothing but praise for Jake and Trail Transformation! This was marathon #4 and I set my most ambitious goal yet - to beat my very first marathon by an hour. In 2022 - I ran a 4:21:50 at Grandma's Marathon and coming into 2025, the bar was set at - 3:21:50. With Jake's training and guidance - I came in at 3:17:30. A huge win! I was beyond excited. Jake's workouts and training plan not only built my endurance to conquer this goal, but he also boosted my confidence that I could make it happen. . . Next goal . . . Boston Qualifier (gasp). If you want to improve - get a coach. Jake would be my recommendation.

My goal was to finish a marathon in 4:40, and was able to complete it in 3:56! This coaching has helped me so much with not only running faster, but also gaining training knowledge for the future. Would highly recommend to anyone!

I used Trail Transformation to train for my first 50k. Coach Jake was instrumental in helping me get to the start of the race without injury, feeling strong and ready to take on the challenge. I would hands down recommend Trail Transformation for your next trail adventure.

I used Trail Transformations to help me train for my first trail race. Coach Pat was super helpful in answering my many questions about shoes, gear, and what to expect, and he programmed workouts that had me ready for the race AND injury free. I placed 6th in my division and 9th for women overall — this was not the goal, but I was pleasantly surprised. The accountability and the coaching undoubtedly helped me prepare for this race!

I’ve been running for a long time; never with any real structure, but that had been working for me. The last few years, though, things started to slide. Mentally, it got harder to push myself, especially when everything was being cancelled in 2020/2021, so I kept running, of course, but started slowing down – I’d still do the long runs, just progressively slower. Then, I spent about 9-10 months running through injuries in 2022, which only made me slower. Finally, in January of this year, I made an appointment to see Jake for PT – he’d helped me other times over the years.

The first step was getting me running “healthy” again. Once we got there, I knew I needed help getting my running back on track, so that’s when I started working with Jake as my Coach. I wasn’t sure how the coaching thing was going to go (the ol’ old dog/new tricks thing), but it's been great! Jake has built a program based on my abilities, schedule and goals. He’s helped me increase my weekly mileage, added hill repeats, pace work, and incorporated strength and stretching, and... kept me injury free! He is supportive, encouraging and holds me accountable. When I’ve had to travel for work, or had a vacation planned, he’s helped me adjust the program. And, I’m seeing results: in September, I had my best Goosebumps 6-Hour run since 2016. And, at Hixon this year, I ran 1:31 faster than last year in the 50K (granted, I was still doing my run-through-injuries-instead-of-actually-treating-them thing), and almost 40 minutes faster than 2021. But, even more important than the numbers, is that I am feeling stronger, more confident and actually enjoying running again! My real goal is coming up next May, and I am looking forward to working on our plan for winter so I’m ready for the next phase of training. Thanks, Jake!

I started with Jake in January of 2023. I am older and have a good idea of what to do for training, but I know I can improve and that someone holding me accountable and making me do the work and offering feedback would definitely help. I have used Jake for PT services before, and he has helped me through some injuries in the past. I have successfully complete 3 ultras this year, my fastest 100k, a 100 miler, and a 50k along with a couple of local races injury-free. Being injury-free is very important allowing you to build over time. I'm confident we will get me through a couple goal races next year and that I'll be running for many years to come with good results.

I started with Coach Jake in 2021, a month or so before my first 100k. Not only did he get me to that finish line (which I was seriously questioning), but he's also coached me to a successful 100 miler finish, helped me drop almost two hours off of my 100k time, and guided me to my fastest marathon (which was ran as a training run). He includes strength work, mobility exercises, and keeps training focused around my individualized goals and crazy schedule. I highly recommend the Trail Transformation Team to help you accomplish your running dreams!

Trail transformations coaching has been very motivating and allowed me to get a PR at my last half marathon. Coach Pat’s physical therapy background provides the experience needed to transition my program through injuries to allow me to continue working out safely and then progress me back up to my previous level of training with confidence.

Whatever your skill level or goals are, I would highly recommend Coach Pat as a coach! I have been working with Pat for the past 4 years. During this time, I have achieved way more than I thought I ever would with running, largely due to Pat’s expertise and encouragement. He structures the training so that it is manageable with everything else going on in your life (for example, he typically keeps my weekday runs/cross training no longer than an hour, so fitting them in around work and other activities is very do-able), and checks in regularly to see how the body is feeling so that if a niggle pops up, we can adjust the training for the upcoming weeks accordingly. His background in physical therapy also is a big plus, because if something does start to hurt, he can provide additional exercises to target whatever the issue is. Pat’s training has gotten me to the start line both physically and mentally ready to tackle the race, while also making the journey to get there fun and challenging. I look forward to working with Pat for many more years to come!

After not running for almost 3 years due to a severe shin splint injury, I trained three months with Amanda to complete a 12.5k trail race. Amanda checked in with me often, had live call meetings every other week, and really helped me tailor my training to my injury and build up strength in my left leg. I am not doing the race next week, unfortunately, due to other concerns, but I do feel well-prepared to move forward to other trail races this summer and in the fall.

After working with Coach Mike for over a year, it is clear to me that he is focused on turning his athletes into healthy and strong running machines. His athletes are in it for the long haul and can train at a high level without running themselves into the ground. At the end of the day, we need to love the sport if we want to keep going and we need to keep going if we want to get better; Mike knows that. Mike seems focused on long-term success through consistency, strategic intensity, and injury prevention; therefore, you can expect to see serious improvements in your running and overall fitness after months of consistent training with him. My praise for Mike as a coach, however, extends beyond his coaching; he is also a funny guy, is personable, and is almost always available to chat with you. If you are struggling with life and or your job, he will find a way to adapt your training, if you accidentally break your ankle while doing something stupid, he'll have you cranking on the bike to maintain a high level of fitness. I am really grateful to have worked with Mike and Trail Transformations!

Pat and Hannah at Trail Transformation were absolutely essential in my being able to finish the 100 mile ultramarathon at Hennepin Hundred this year! Pat was awesome at working with me on my training plan, adapting to my family and work schedules, in addition to adjusting the plan beautifully when I got sick (twice!) and got me back on track quickly! Hannah helped me “train my gut” for the 100 miles with great tips, food and recipe ideas, and helped me figure out what would and wouldn’t work as a fueling plan during the race - such a critical element for completing an ultra, in addition to the running training! Both Hannah and Pat were so responsive and with me every step of the way. I am so grateful to them and Trail Transformation for their services and highly recommend them!!

I have had an excellent experience working with Hannah Podoll. I first sought out her help as I trained for my second marathon. I needed to find a way to fuel and calm my gut. Success!!!! I then found out that my cholesterol was running high(despite being a normal weight and marathon runner) Hannah helped me to adjust my diet to support my running goals and to lower my cholesterol. Four months later, my cholesterol numbers were normal! I was able to avoid taking medication! Success again! I am excited to work with Hannah again this summer as I dial in my nutrition and train for marathon #3. Thank you Hannah!

Awesome coaching & training service! I started w/Jake at TT in January 2020 when I needed help getting back into healthy running. My goal was a 100-mile trail ultra, but I'd been struggling w/injuries for 2 years after self-coaching and cycling. Jake got me back on track and provided great structure, training, and feedback. A couple niggles along the way freaked me out but he navigated me through these only to have me win my first 100-miler in November 2020. Still going strong and working w/TT 2 years later, and planning to continue for a long time. Highly recommend. I am remote, way out of state, and have never had the pleasure of meeting Jake or any TT coaches in person, but I hope to someday!

I came to Trail Transformation with some experience running ultras, but I was struggling with consistency in my training and I felt that I needed to do something to take that next step with my performance. I had 2 major race goals this year which I accomplished: complete the Black Hills 100 and Hitchcock 100. I was able to finish both of these races feeling strong and with finish times I didn’t think were within my ability a year ago. Coach Mike guided me through a turbulent year of training to get me ready. He designed a program that worked with my schedule that allowed me to scale up my mileage safely and effectively. Mike also worked with me to incorporate cross training activities on my own such as biking and CrossFit which kept things fun and balanced. I also utilized their nutrition coaching for a few months to dial that in prior to Black Hills - that was immensely helpful for avoiding the dreaded mid-race bonking. To summarize, working with Trail Transformation and coach Mike was a great experience that gave me valuable knowledge and confidence. I would recommend it to anyone of any ability - they will help you crush your goals!

I’ve been working with Coach Pat for just over 4 months now. When I came to Trail Transformation I was dealing with an injury and was frustrated that my training had plateaued. With Pat’s guidance on strength training/mobility I overcame the injury quickly and we got to work. My goals have changed due to race availability during COVID, but we adjusted and I’m getting ready to set some big PR’s this fall with the Wild Duluth 100k as my “A” race. Pat’s communication and the work he has put into my training plan have me feeling healthy and I’m running at paces that I haven’t been able to match for years. I’m thrilled with the impact Trail Transformation has had on my running and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is feeling stuck like I was.

I have been working with Coach Jake since the fall of 2019. I had goals to get stronger and faster on the roads. Then the following spring, Coach Jake helped me discover my love for running trails while still becoming stronger and more fit. Sadly, I developed an injury over the summer which was found to be most likely related to inadequate food intake (I had a lot of injuries prior to working with Trail Transformation as well). I began working with Coach Rachel to improve my diet and gain weight. Rachel was super helpful, supportive, and individualized my nutrition plan to meet my goals – to get strong and healthy. I continue to work with Coach Jake who has kept active while I was healing while providing me with strength and rehabilitation plan. Coach Jake has been incredibly supportive through the entire injury process and would not let me give up even on worst days. I am incredibly grateful for the Trail Transformation team which is helping me to become the best athlete and person I can be. I highly recommend Trail Transformation!

I worked with Rachel Turi from December 2019 - September 2020. Through her nutrition counseling, we worked through a few different details I was unhappy with, and specifically how to fuel for long-distance events. Unlike their advertised clientele, I approached Trail Transformation with fitness goals focused around long-distance indoor rowing, instead of running. However, the nutritional approach to long-distance training was very similar and Rachel was able to provide fantastic advice for my sport.

My nutritional journey began with me being consumed with over analyzing food, macros, and food weight. In general, my relationship with food was pretty stale. During my time working with Rachel, I put away the food scale, learned how to stop eating when I was satisfied and found how enjoyable cooking and eating can be! So many foods were completely off limits for me because of how I felt about them (unhealthy, makes you fat, your performance will suffer). It was obvious from the start that I had a lot to learn, and I have never been happier to have been proven wrong. It's a common phrase: "everything in moderation", but Rachel truly taught me what that meant and helped me bring my life into a better place.

Along side my relationship with food and my daily eating, Rachel also helped me conquer race day! Not a big surprise - I learned a lot here too. She taught me how to properly fuel before (and during) the race, but more critically for me, she taught me how to recover and how to take my foot off the accelerator. Ha! Rachel also guided me on ways to celebrate. When you are just rowing your race in your garage, and its just you against you, it's anti-climactic at the end. There is no finish line to cross and usually no fans cheering you on. She was there to remind me to take a step back and celebrate those hard efforts! I also learned that it was more than OK to celebrate with a bit of food - it also helps in that recovery process! Let's just say I am enjoying some ice cream again! Thanks, Rachel!

Finally, our weekly check-ins were always spot on, and there was constant communication throughout this process. I loved the accountability and the professionalism during our time together. I looked forward to our talks to discuss what worked and what didn't work during the prior week. I always felt like I had a partner in this journey that cared and was genuinely interested in my progress and other life events.

In my opinion, food is a critical part of our lives, and thusly, our relationship with food is paramount. Maybe you have different nutritional restrictions for whatever reason. Great! Good on you. But, we should all be enjoying our food and enjoying our time with it. At the end of the day, our food is so much more than numbers and letters on a label. Rachel has taught me a lot over these months, and I will remember this experience forever.

Thanks again, Rachel!

When I was done racing collegiate cross country, I was interested in trail running but wasn’t sure where to start. Coach Pat helped me with this transition, and I was able to see great results already in my first season when I finished 3rd at Hixon 50k. Not only was I excited about this result for my first 50k, but also that I was able to do this injury free. Prior to working with Coach Pat, I could hardly make it a year without having to take time off due to an injury. Now I’m running healthier and stronger, and racing longer distances than I ever thought I could! I highly recommend Trail Transformation to help you reach your goals!

I started working with Coach Mike at the end of 2017. I was at a point where I was coachable and wanted to train for my first 100 mile race. I felt as if I was already a disciplined runner, but my training lacked structure and accountability. I struggled with confidence and needed someone to break my comfort zones—over and over if necessary. I also had a history of significant injuries and a chronic Achilles issue.
After our first conversation, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief because I didn’t want to be in charge of designing my own training schedule. I only wanted to be responsible for executing it. We spent the first five months focused on Kettle Moraine 100, which I finished.

Working with Rachel the past year has taught me how to build a successful race on the framework of proper fueling, hydration, and electrolyte balance. Her leadership through the MRT/LEAP process changed my life. I am fortunate to have Mike and Rachel to guide not only my short term race goals but to support me on the journey to life-long health and wellness.

I've been running pretty consistently for 10 years, but just in the last 2-3 years started getting more serious with my training. I caught the marathon bug but kept falling short on race day. After another failed attempt this last spring for marathon number 6, I decided I needed some help. Michael's name came up after attending a workout class at Performance Running so I reached out to him with my goals. Training wise it was great to have workouts tailored for me, vs. a generic online plan. He also worked with me though training as I had a few triathlons on my calendar as well, and also did some longer bike rides with my dad for fun. I had PRs for the 5k, half marathon, sprint tri and completed my first olympic during my training leading up to Twin Cities. While I had some health concerns happen during the race and was unable to complete it, I was happy with my fitness so I will be back for another spring marathon working with Michael!

The folks at Trail Transformation are awesome! I have been working with Mike for the past year and credit his coaching, knowledge, encouragement, and support with helping me get in shape to run my first 25K. Prior to working with him, I had been running sporadically. This past year was a transformation—my speed and endurance improved and I learned how to take better care of my body and avoid injuries. While I'm not an elite runner (I will never win a race) nor am I an ultra long distance runner (25K might just be the longest distance I ever run), thanks to Mike's coaching, I have developed a passion for running that I never had before and I'm excited about the races in my future. I've been running 5-10k road races my whole life but slowed down when kids came along. When I tried to ramp things back up (right around age 50) I was slow and injury prone and not getting anywhere. One running friend told me I needed PT. Another running friend told me to get a coach. A third running friend finally convinced me to call Jake. I wish I'd heeded their advice long ago. At the time hiring a coach seemed self-indulgent, and shouldn't I know how to run by now anyway? Jake and his crew welcomed me into this community of trail runners, tweaked my training so I was able to run without injury and transformed my whole outlook (Jake says "We don't call it Trail Transformation for nothing" lol). Jake has another line that has rung true for me: Most people run to get fit but you have to get fit to run. I'm 6 months into this journey, just ran my first 25k (zero knee pain), and am happy to report they've breathed new life into my running practice.

My nutrition goals seemed conflicting- I wanted to focus on body comp transformation specifically reducing weight and body fat% without compromising my marathon training and race day nutrition. Happy to say that Rachel enabled me with the tools to do both. Over the course of 5 months working with Rachel I lost 10lbs, reduced my body fat% by 8pts and gained 5lbs of muscle- all while training for a marathon! With her guidance I learned how much I should be eating, what to eat and when, to best fuel for my workouts and keep my energy levels up. And she was 100% supportive of my plant-based lifestyle. If you are stuck with your own transformation, I recommend scheduling a consultation with Rachel to see how she can help you meet your goals.

I'm running my first 100 miler in a couple of weeks and no matter what happens, I will be happy with the work that I've put in thanks to Trail Transformation. I have had a great year working with Coach Pat at Trail Transformation! I was an experienced athlete wanting help training for my first marathon. This experience has far exceeded my expectations- I gained a ton of fitness but also really enjoyed the ease of not having to think about my workout planning, and then also the accountability of having a coach tracking my progress.
I have already recommended Trail Transformation and will continue to recommend them to family and friends!

I had a great experience working with Trail Transformation and having Jake as my coach. My goal was to train and race in my second trail marathon and I had an awesome race, met my goals and it's due too the personal training that I got. I also really enjoyed that fact that they take time to get to know you and where you are at in life and then make the training be part of my life not my life. I will keep working with them too!!

I've been working with Rachel on race day nutrition for just over a year now. I started with her after failing due to nutrition at my 2nd attempt a distance over 50 miles. Since then I have completed a 50 miler, a 100k and recently a 100 mile race. In all these races nutrition I have been able to take in enough calories with liquids and take in more solid foods then I have ever before. Rachel has been great to work with. Based on my symptoms in my other races she recommended a few options for me to experiment with and once we figured out what worked we fine tuned amounts and then worked to add in different types of solids to supplement. We continued experimenting during long runs after each race and have developed basic plan that gets me enough calories to finish. Whilst we still haven't figured out the perfect nutrition plan I feel confident that with more data on my races and Rachel's expertise my next training cycle will continue the progression in figuring out my nutrition. I would highly recommend people work with Rachel as knows runners and understands our individual dietary tastes/needs

I used Trail Transformation to help me with the Rut Run, a high altitude technical run in Montana. Obviously that created some unique challenges living in Minnesota. I tried it on my own a couple of years ago and failed. I tried it this year with Trail Transformation, and exceeded my own expectations! So I guess what else to you need to know!

My coach was Tyler. He was great the whole time. I travel a lot for work and so often needed to move things around. He was very flexible and timely in his communication. I would recommend Tyler and Trail Transformation to anyone looking for a little more structure in the training regimen.

I had a phone consultation with Rachel about nutrition and my goals. I've always found being active easy, but my bad eating habits have caught up to me as I've gotten older. Between her knowledge, advice, and personalized plan for me, I now have a plan for my goals. I'm only at the beginning of this journey, but I'm optimistic that a healthier me is in my future. Rachel was friendly, easy to talk to, and answered all of my questions. I would recommend her to anyone!

I was feeling tired and lethargic for over a month, especially after the 3 mile mark on my runs; with a quick look at a 3 day diet log, Rachel was able to pinpoint some deficiencies in my diet. After a month of adding some supplements and more protein to my diet, I feel SO MUCH BETTER and can run comfortably for more than 5 miles. I asked Rachel about some of the tests they offer but she didn't think I needed any (all of which were quite expensive). Rachel was knowledgable, helpful, and able to make some impactful recommendations in just one consultation. I am so grateful for her and is my #1 choice if I need any diet/nutrition advice in the future!! Sarah Smith

When I started questioning my training from being burnt out, from injury, and being unsure about my race day and everyday nutrition, I filled out the initial evaluation with Trail Transformation. From that initial questionnaire to where I am now is more than I can fit into a review. I feel confident in my training, and consistent during my races with a plan of action for nutrition and how I should treat each race and the goals I have set in place. Recovery post-race has felt great since I started using their coaching services, and can be completely transparent with them as well about how I am feeling with how my training and races are going, or if certain aches or pains pop up in the process. They also understand that life happens and that switching or tailoring the training plan can happen. They truly care about my goals and the training it takes to get there. The communication system, check-ins, and questions that may arise are always answered!

If you want to take your running to the next level, to think about the longevity of running in your life, to feel consistent, strong, confident, and even more connected in your running community, as well as fueling yourself to the best potential, I would highly recommend Trail Transformation not only for coaching but for nutrition services. They have not only helped me but coached many others to achieve their goals and have seen many succeed! They are also some of the kindest and caring people I have ever worked with!

I can not wait to see how the rest of the year plays out with my lofty goals. I am so glad I came across TT before I started training for my first 100 miler, it's taken the guess work out of wondering if I am adequately training. I’ve been working with coach Mike for over a year now. It’s been a great experience and with his help I’ve been beating race times that I ran 10 years ago! Looking forward to continuing to improve and excited for the coming year! Thanks Mike!

I also went through the MRT food sensitivity testing protocol with Rachel. Rachel was great at helping me through the process step by step. I had been dealing with stomach issues for quite some time, and following the MRT protocol and adhering to it all the way to completion made a HUGE difference. I felt absolutely amazing. My sleep was better, my running improved, my stomach issues dramatically improved. I now work with Rachel monthly and she is very knowledgeable and helpful. If you’re experiencing GI issues while running or just in every day life, I’d highly recommend getting in touch with Rachel!

I have ran a handful of half marathons over the past few years and he even helped me to finish my first full marathon this past fall (2018). Rachel, and the MRT process have both been great for me. I have been running competitively in Ultras for the past 7 years, and I thought that through a lot of trial and error I had things fairly dialed in. I had been following an optimized high fat diet for 3 years, and I had a lot less GI upset than I did earlier in my racing career. However, I was still having issues in training and during high effort races.
After going through the MRT process Rachel was able to point out several food items that I ate very frequently that were possibly contributing to some of my issues.
Rachel then helped me to follow a regiment that eliminated foods I was reactive too. Since then I have run many hard workouts, and a 100k and 100 mile all without the same GI issues I was having prior.
Working with Rachel through the MRT process is something I would suggest to anyone suffering from GI issues in life, training, or racing.

These guys are wonderful--Knowledgeable, passionate about the sport, and willing and able to help anyone achieve their goals. I started working with Mike back in August. I had transitioned from road running to trail and ultra running back in 2016 and had somewhat successfully trained myself to the point where I could muddle/suffer through two fifty mile races, two 50k races, an Ironman, and a number of smaller runs/races and decided to take on the 100 mile distance. Like my prior races, my training consisted of running as much as I could, without much rhyme or reason or purpose for individual runs, and while I felt strong, I DNFed at mile 38, a result of weather and trail conditions for which I was not prepared or strong enough to handle. Shortly afterward, I succumbed to debilitating plantar fasciitis (likely a result of poorly executed random and scattered training) which sidelined me for the entire summer. It was at this point that i realized I needed the guidance and expertise of people who had experience and knew how to structure my training in a way that would take my running to the next level, help me train smartly and with purpose, help me address my concerns and questions, and help me stay injury free. In the last few months that I've worked with Trail Transformation, I have noticed a remarkable change in how I feel while running. Not only is the purpose of each run apparent and targeted, but the progression is logical, challenging, and results producing--and as things change or come up on a week to week or day to day basis, the responsiveness of the coaches in making necessary adjustments is commendable--as is their encouragement to their runners! My race season is beginning soon, and I have much more confidence not only in my ability to finish my upcoming 50 and 100 mile races, but to finish them well. The knowledge and experience that Trail Transformation coaches bring to the table is a game changer, whether you are struggling or just want to see what the possibilities are for your future running!

Working with Jake and Trail Transformation has been a great experience. I started working with Jake in 2016 and I brought a few conflicting goals of avoiding injuries, getting faster, and running longer distances. Jake was actually able to work with that and helped me set new PRs and strong race showings at several distances from 10 miles to 50k. He also helped me complete my first 100 mile race.

Trail Transformation offers a unique package in their basic coaching package. It really fills the gap between self training or off the shelf plans and the more expensive options. The service I received from the basic plan was much more in line with the advanced plan, minus dietitian services or phone calls. Either package is still a great value relative to anything else I've seen and I'd recommend Trail Transformation to anyone looking to take their running to a new level.

As a slightly older, back of the pack runner I wasn’t sure that I was the target market for a coach. But with a little prodding from my wife, I signed on with Trail Transformation and found out that I could not have been more wrong. Anyone can benefit from hiring a coach and the folks at Trail Transformation are the best. I found the workouts simple and easy to understand. One of the biggest benefit areas for me has been the reduction in injuries resulting from the strengthening program. Additionally, the dietary component was something I had been sorely missing. I see a difference not only in my weight, but in how I feel. My energy levels are fantastic and I recover more quickly from long runs and races. Overall, my experience working with Jake and Rachel at Trail Transformation has been amazing! I would highly recommend them (and have) to anyone considering hiring a coach.

I've been training with Jake at Trail Transformation since May of 2017. My more immediate goal was to break a sub-2 in the half marathon distance (previous PR was a 2:05, which I could not seem to break), and also to keep my nagging Achilles Tendinopathy at bay--every time I started training and ramping up the mileage I'd re-injure myself. It was definitely time to hire a coach!

After a few months of training with Jake, I crushed my half marathon goal (cruising in at a 1:54, while thoroughly enjoying myself AND staying injury-free), and decided to train for the marathon. My training was solid, still under Jake's coaching), but after several training runs that I felt totally depleted and exhausted, I felt I needed a bit of extra help. I knew it wasn't the training itself that was causing me to feel crummy, I knew it was user error. Jake suggested I talk to dietician Rachel Turi (who is also a runner!), also with Trail Transformation, and she was exactly what I needed. She tailored a plan to fit my needs, likes and dislikes, which covered everything from race and training nutrition, to what to eat every day (and even the timing of what to eat/when). I started to nail my workouts again--feeling great during and after, and to date have had absolutely no cramping issues. I ran the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon this past weekend, and I felt strong and solid the whole time. And I know it was because of the expertise and knowledge that both Jake and Rachel have offered.

Both Rachel and Jake have been worth every single penny. I am grateful for their support and guidance, and am excited to continue to work with them!

I would highly recommend Jake and Rachel at Trail Transformation! I started working with Jake in March 2017. I had a couple initial goals: be injury-free and complete the Superior 50k and Bighorn 52 mile race. As a PT and ultrarunner, Jake has been the perfect coach to help me achieve those goals and more.

In the last 1.5 years, I have seen huge gains in my fitness and I am enjoying running even more than before. I've been injury-free and really appreciate being able to contact Jake anytime a little extra soreness pops up. He always has good suggestions to address the issue before it turns into an injury. Jake is also great at tailoring my training schedule to fit around my full life with lots of work and fun travel.

I started working with Rachel a few months ago to improve my diet and figure out better ways to fuel my training and recovery. She is super knowledgeable, responsive, and always has great practical ideas to address any of my nutritional concerns.

The 2018 Superior 50 mile was a test of how far I have come with Trail Transformation's support. I ran the 50 mile in 2016 as my first ultra, undertrained and with stomach problems nearly the whole way. In 2018 I had a perfect day on the trails: my legs held up great, my nutrition strategy was spot-on, and I ended up taking 4h45 min off my 2016 time to finish second woman. I could not have done it without Jake and Rachel!

When I decided to attempt to run my first 100 miler, I knew I needed help to ensure I would not only show up on race day prepared, but also without injury. Working with Jake and Rachel of Trail Transformation over the past nine months has been the best investment I could have made in my running progress- not only did I achieve my goal of completing a 100 mile run, but I felt supported during the process, and even had no injuries during training, which was a first for me. Jake’s ability to provide specific workouts that were tailored to my goals (and then his flexibility to rework them when life got in the way) were very appreciated and it is clear that he wanted what was best for me as a long-term runner. His knowledge as a PT kept me injury free and confident that I would be ready to compete on race day. Working with Rachel on my nutrition needs was also pivotal to my success, not only was she a source of nutritional content knowledge, but was so compassionate and really helped me work on the way I see my body in all aspects of life. Overall, I can’t recommend working with Jake and Rachel highly enough, whether it’s training for your distance PR, trying to improve speed, working on dialing in nutrition, or just trying to stay injury free, they do it all.

I stared at Michael across the table and thought "I'm old enough to be his grandpa". My wife had insisted that after 5 failed attempts at 100 miles, Trail Transformation would be able to help me, but I must confess that Michael's youth had me wondering. I'm also old enough to know that you can't judge a book by it's cover. As our meeting progressed and Michael carefully listened to my litany of failures, I realized that he had a wealth of knowledge and even more impressive, his resume of experience. I walked away from the meeting encouraged in the knowledge that I could trust him and a promise from him to tailor a training regimen that would work with my limited schedule. A couple of days later I had a schedule and started introducing his added strength training to my usual running routine. I tried to follow his instructions to the letter and as the next 3 months progressed I felt great improvements in my overall condition. Michael followed my progress via an internet program and frequent email conversations. The night before the race I got an email from Michael in a pre-race encouraging "follow your training" note.
I can say that my race was still difficult, but with help of a great crew, and the extensive training regimen from Trail Transformation I finally accomplished a life goal of running 100 miles.
Thank You Michael,

My running was in a funk, poor race results, lack of motivation and injuries were causing me to lose interest in running. This was big for me because running was a major part of my life, so I decided to make a change and hire a coach. I had seen Michael at several trail races, he was always racing towards the finish and me to the turnaround, damn fast guys. I was fascinated at how effortlessly he runs through the woods and I thought to myself why not hire the man himself. My goals were simple, get back to running, become stronger, reduce injuries and place in my age group. I received my first week’s plan and thought to myself does this guy know I have run over 60 marathons/ultras, this is not enough miles, ok take a breath there is a master plan. I followed the plan and before I knew it I was getting faster, stronger, lost a few ponds and toned up. It is funny how motivated you are by a little green dot that shows you completed a workout each day or how you stay away from the red dot. Trail transformation has done an amazing job in supplying me with a training plan that includes running, strength, cross training and diet. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is seeking to improve their running.

I started using Trail Transformation after I signed up for the Fall Superior 50 miler in 2017. I had had my first DNF at the Spring Superior 50k in the spring of 2016 and I had also been struggling with plantar fasciitis, so I knew I needed help if I hoped to finish injury-free.

Coach Michael worked with me on a training plan that helped strengthen my legs enough to take on the hills of the Superior Hiking Trail – I live in the lowcountry of South Carolina and the average elevation of my runs is 5ft—and strengthen and improve the flexibility of my ankles and feet enough so that I was able to complete the 50 miler with no foot pain (I mean, there definitely was pain—it WAS 50 miles—just nothing that a couple of days of rest couldn’t heal).

After the success of that race, I continued to work with Coach Michael to train for a 55k in Iceland (also a mountain race … and snow, and glaciers, and freezing streams). We continued the work on my strength and I also started working with Rachel Turi. I have always struggled with nausea on my long runs and races and Rachel helped me immensely – I now have a great strategy for long run nutrition that consistently works and I no longer have to worry about whether my stomach is going to cut my run short.

I would definitely recommend Trail Transformation, Coach Michael, and Rachel Turi to my friends and family. They are great to work with and have helped me tons!

My recent race results are proof that following Michael's guidance is working. I highly recommend Trail Transformation to anyone who wants to run happy and injury free.

I was recovering from a knee injury that kept me out of running for 5 months and I was searching for guided instruction for strength training. I signed up for one class because I had nothing to lose by attending. The coaches at Trail Transformation explained and demonstrated every exercise and what muscles each were targeting and ensured proper and safe form was used at all time. As an added bonus, at the end of each workout, foam rolling techniques and instructions were included. In 6 short weeks, I lost weight, became leaner, and stronger. I’m elated to say I’m running farther, faster, and injury free since taking these classes. With the help of the Trail Transformation coaches, I’m on pace to run my first 50k in October. I do not hesitate to recommend the educated and experienced staff at Trail Transformation for not just runners, but anyone who wants to be healthier and learn more about the importance and advantages of strength training.

I came to Coach Mike at Trail Transformation after having spent 6 years self-coaching for ultra distance events. Although those 6 years had some decent results, I invariably ended up with nagging injuries throughout the season. Additionally, I would always feel under-recovered when coming into an event.

I've now trained with Mike for a year and a half and I've seen better results , a serious decrease in the number of injuries, as well as arriving at the start line feeling recovered and ready to race hard.

I have worked with Trail Transformation for more than a year and in that time I have set PRs in 50k, 50mile and 100k races. I have been able to remain healthy while also increasing my training load. Trail Transformation is especially helpful because the coaches are also physical therapists so any time you have aches and pains they can prescribe workouts and exercises to keep you out running on the trails. Highly recommend.

I began working with the Trail Transformation team in November 2017. With their help, I took a wholistic approach to my training. I got my diet under control by "going keto", which helped me lose 20lbs, run on very minimal calories, and recover more quickly after strenuous workouts and races. By introducing regular strength training and dynamic exercises, I've managed to stay injury free, even though I'm pushing myself harder than ever! Perhaps most importantly, I've set speed and distance goals, which I previously thought beyond my reach. I can now consistently run a sub six-minute mile and set a 50 mile PR... running nearly 4 hours faster than my previous two attempts! The team at Trail Transformation remove the headache of building a training plan, so I can focus my effort on execution.

I've had a great experience working with Jake and the Trail Transformation team! I've been a runner for several years but wanted to work with a coach before training for my first marathon. Jake created a schedule that helped me PR at a half marathon in the fall and then helped me recover from an injury over the winter. I was really intimidated to tackle marathon training after being off running for 8 weeks. The program Jake designed got me to the starting line feeling healthy and confident. I had a great race and am excited to tackle more goals this fall!
I also worked with Rachel, to help dial in my nutrition during marathon training. She was extremely knowledgeable and helped me realize some problem areas and how to correct them.

I have been running Ultras (50K, 50M, 100K and 100M) since 2009. Initially I saw good results but after several years started having odd injuries, and eventually mental burnout. I knew that I still had things I wanted to accomplish as an ultra runner so reached out to Jake at Trail Transformation about coaching services. Since I started working with him in the fall of 2016 my race times have improved, including placing in my age group in several races, and more importantly I have remained injury free and am mentally much fresher.

In the Fall of 2017 I began working with Rachel (Dietitian) to sort out some annoying GI issues that had hampered my running, and led to a DNF at a 100 mile event. Within a few months of working on dietary changes my symptoms were much improved. Now, 9 months later, after MRT testing and additional dietary changes, my symptoms are nearly 100% resolved AND I am running even better with strong finishes at recent races. An added bonus is that the generalized joint and muscle pain I had been having (something I had attributed to getting older) has disappeared and my overall mood and energy level have improved.

I feel that both Jake and Rachel are very receptive and responsive to questions and concerns and have supported me in going for, and achieving, my race goals.

I highly recommended Trail Transformation to folks who are looking to improve their running, avoid injury and/or to address dietary/GI issues.

Trail Transformation is top notch! Coach Michael listens to my goals, my personal obstacles and the need for a unique training schedule to fit my job/family life. He writes my plan to accommodate me but while still pushing me. Last year while training with Michael I set Personal records at Voyageur 50 mile (by over 45 minutes) and Superior 100 mile (by over 2 hours). I'm looking forward to another fun racing season with Michael as my coach. If you feel like your running is lacking or you need an extra push, I highly recommend Trail Transformation! I feel so lucky and fortunate to have Michael as my coach!

When I first met Jake I was doing a lot of miles of training, and not really doing any better at races. I spent so much time training and not really enjoying it all of the time. I wanted Trail Transformation to help me be the best that I could be. With the plan that I have done I do less than half the mileage I used to do and actually do much better at races than I used to. I also have more time to do everything else that fills up my life.
I no longer do a bunch of junk miles that I don't need. I really enjoy all of my runs, and when I do run a race I am ready for it and confident that I can achieve whatever goal I have set for this race. Most importantly I have fun whenever I run.
I did so well on the basic plan that this year I decided to go to the advanced package, so that I could get nutritional advice and a strength training program. Dietitian Rachel Thur has been great. She was able to do a few small tweaks to my diet that has supercharged my performance. Any issues or questions that I have about nutrition are quickly addressed by her. Her help has really helped me with my ketogenic diet.
Any of my friends that seem to have hit a plateau of feeling burned out, or just struggling with a training plan and I will always recommend Trail Transformation. I may be their biggest advocate as I am always urging my friends to try the Trail Transformation team. I always tell them that I do not have to second guess if I have the right training plan or not as after 2 years I am confident that I have done everything that needed to be done to get me to the starting line of a race, healthy and fit.

I have been working with Jake for running and Rachel for Nutrition, since November 2017. I initially started working with Trail Transformation because I was getting ready for my first 100 mile race, and knew that I needed a more structured approach to my training. Well, Zumbro 100 was a great success for me, and things have just continued to improve. The training guidance I have gotten from Jake has been amazing. He has supported me and answered questions every step along the way. In addition to helping with my running, the nutritional support I have gotten from Rachel has been great. She has helped me to start eating better and has been invaluable in helping me craft hydration/nutrition planning for my running and racing.

For anyone looking for coaching and/or nutrition help, I would highly recommend Trail Transformation!

This Team is incredibly talented. From day one they have had my goals in mind. I sometimes wonder if Coach Jake understands me better than I understand myself.

The passion that this team has for running shows through their kindness and commitment to the running community. They are involved in all aspects of the sport. Race directing, sponsoring, volunteering and trail work are just a few of the activities that they are involved with....and committed runners as well.

All are well educated in the latest information from nutrition to racing!

This is a true Dream Team!!
