If you're looking for a gym in Birmingham AL beware of Amp'd Fitness. Wouldn't allow me to cancel over the phone, and we were just going to pause and come back in a few months too.

Shamed me for canceling my subscription. I said i had no time. The guy at desk not one that was helping me said “no you have time just not fitting it in your schedule”. Very rude and unprofessional. Not a way to convince a customer to stay.

Other complaints: Somthing always broken , gym always hot/warm even in summer, women area never open, desk/maintnence under staffed, uncomfortable vibe when alone.

Only reason this isn’t a 0-1 star is cause jake my trainer is top tier amazing. Very good at understanding his clients needs and adapting to clients schedules.

I visited Amped Fitness in Birmingham to activate my Fitness Your Way membership. They insisted I create a new account and provide my credit-card information, even though billing for Fitness Your Way is handled entirely through Tivity Health. That request immediately raised red flags about data privacy and possible duplicate billing.

I’ve since emailed Amped Fitness twice (to their member-support address) asking for clarification about this policy and have received no response at all. The lack of communication and transparency is extremely disappointing.

Kept charging my account after cancellation - went to appointment to figure out how to get $118 refunded back into my account and they "just weren't able to because it was processed over the weekend". I was then told to send a letter to corporate, but Amped is a franchise, they don't have a corporate location. They also advertise having certain amenities but they don't actually have them like the babe cave.
Please refund me!

The store manager has a very nasty attitude and a dog would probably do a better job. My husband owes nothing, yet we received a call and an email from a debt collector demanding $1,500+. The supervisor and a mysterious “B or V” refused to use their phone or speak to the debt collector to confirm this account is invalid. The manager refused to give me a corporate contact number; the supervisor told me to find the corporate office number myself online. Aldous - their fraud partners advised they MUST receive a direct call or email from store staff, which the staff refused to do! Because this appears to be a recurring problem, I reported it to the FTC. Do NOT give this place your business.

Amp fitness have horrible predatory business practices they trap people in contracts. I have spoke with them on canceling my contract which they refuse to let me cancel it with them. I have only been to the gym once in over five years because of an injury so I don't work out anymore but they still charged me membership fees for all that time and now they are sending my account to collections instead of just canceling my account and keeping all the free money they have collected from me all of these years of which I've never stepped back into thier gym but for that one time.

BEWARE. Caught someone recording me in the restroom stall, filed a police report, investigation still ongoing, gym refuses to kick the guy out. Not sure if the situation was ever escalated to the proper management because I never heard from anyone other than the front desk manager. Can’t say I recommend going here after this, at least if you’re a dude and you don’t wanna get recorded while doing your business.

UPDATE 1/30: The gym revoked MY membership and told me they verified he was not recording me (couldn't say how when I asked, obviously). They claimed the member that recorded me reported that I harassed him, LOL. So apparently my word and the fact that I literally went out of my way to call the police as well meant nothing, but this other member's word is enough to boot me. He pays for personal training, so maybe they are that desperate for money? It makes sense considering the water fountain bottle filler hasn't worked in probably a year and there is maybe one working urinal out of the three they used to have. Absolutely DISGUSTING organization.

*Also did what they asked in the reply to my review and emailed them with no response. Got the district manager’s email and he is unresponsive as well. Complete and utter BS.*

So, I've been going to this gym for almost two months now, and I've got some mixed feelings I wanted to share. Honestly, it's a bit of a rollercoaster!

The cleanliness could definitely use some improvement. I haven't seen much in the way of cleaning, and there are some areas that have… well, a bit of a smell. Plus, there's always *something* broken – it seems like they're constantly hiring for maintenance and the front desk, which kinda speaks for itself. The staff at the front desk look super busy, always dealing with something.

One thing they don't really make clear (at least, they didn't to me) is that you can only use the extra stuff like the sauna or bring a guest during their staffed hours. Those hours aren't the most convenient if you like to work out with friends or use those extra amenities. It's a real shame, because the actual workout equipment is fine for the price.

Honestly, Crunch Fitness blows this place away in terms of staffing and hours. I'd switch in a heartbeat, but it's not conveniently located for me.

The biggest downside? The staffed hours feel more like a restriction than a help. It seems like all they do is tell you what you *can't* do, or try to sell you a fitness screening or personal trainer. It's a bit much!

Anyway, I'm starting to look around for a new gym. Just wanted to give you my honest thoughts! Maybe this will help someone else avoid some of the hassles I've been dealing with

Update: Most of the issues listed below have have been addressed so I am updating my review.

The only fly machine has been broken for over a year. One of the water fountains has been broken for 6 months and the other water fountains is filthy and doesn't get cleaned. The remote badge in door stops working every other week. They will fix the sauna and it will be broken a week later. The sauna hasn't been usable in over a year. There are hand sanitizer stations on the walls and they've been empty for 2 years and the bathrooms rarely have soap. Really just posting this in hopes that the owner sees it and gets things fixed.

I’d say this place is good value for the base membership. Overall worth 3-stars! You just have to know what you’re going to get and don’t sign up for anything but the base package.

The good: it’s cheap and has what you need most of the time for a full workout. The people have all been very friendly.

The bad: no enforcement of time spent at stations (some will spend a ton of time at the free weight benches and deadlift stations), not enough plates on busy days (especially if people are leg pressing), horrible bathrooms, and maintenance takes awhile for broken equipment.

With just a little investment in more plates, better bathrooms, and signs to enforce gym etiquette, this would move to 4 stars for sure. They do enforce tripod and filming though which is great! Solid cheap gym option! I plan on staying!

I didn’t think my issues with this gym were as widespread as I thought. I was pressured into signing a training contract the 2nd day I was a member in the gym. I was rushed into signing it without really getting a chance to read my contract but the following day I read it and realized that it charged way more than I originally thought and that the staff had lied to me and said I could cancel anytime. Luckily however on the contract it stated that I would be able to cancel within 3 business days and I canceled on the 3rd day. I called up there and my trainer, Rodney, said it wouldn’t be a problem and that they would cancel it for me. I didn’t think much of it until about a month later as I’m going thru my credit card, I see that they have charged me 50$ for it, I called up there twice, and on the 2nd call they told me to dispute it with my bank. A few days after I was then made aware that they had charged me a total of 150$ for the training I never used and canceled. Promptly after discovering this I called them again for them to tell me that the paperwork was never filled out, and I would either have to wait out all the charges (which would have been roughly over 500$) or pay the buyout fee which would have been around 350$. After trying multiple times of going in the gym and calling and getting the same treatment of having to speak with 3-4 different people each time for them to ultimately give me the same answer I decided to call one last time where I had to call over 20+ times for them to pick up when they were not busy (I know this because a friend of mine called when I was and they picked up on him immediately) I was rudely told by the staff to deal with it and then hung up on, I decided to call my bank to dispute their charges.

In short the staff is terrible, their are hidden fees in anything you’ll be signing, and I hope everyone who works there stubs their toes

I was definitely trying to hold out on a review until I finished my 3 month training program but this has to be said.

let me start off by saying that my experience has been pretty cool. the environment at amped is very youthful and high energy. there has never been a day that I haven't been greeted by a staff member coming or going . I can appreciate that.

one thing that I do not appreciate is how certain individuals handle business as it pertains to personal training agreements. I didn't come to this gym with intentions on doing personal training. all I wanted to do was to ease my way back into fitness after being away from the gym for a while .

I came in to get an inBody scan ( after having someone cold call me 3 times before hand .. The results were extremely helpful and made me mindful of what I needed to work on . I had a meeting with one of the lead staff members about PT and I had hesitations surrounding the pricing. they encouraged me to come and do a trial session , which i truly enjoyed and decided to committ to the program but ONLY IF my demands were met.

I told them that right now ... I couldn't afford to train 8x a month and that I could only do TWICE A MONTH ... with HALF OFF EACH SESSION . the training manager AGREED that he could honor this. the original price is 54$ a session .. they offered it to me for half that per session which would keep me at 54$ a month..... i PAID UPFRONT the 54$ the top of July for 2 sessions and ive already been charged 108$ before the month is already out .. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE SYSTEM IS ATTEMPTING TO BILL ME EVERY WEEK FOR 54$. I went to them 3 times about it and the 2nd time they just told me not to pay it and that they'd reach out to whomever ..AND THEY NEVER DID .... My whole thing is. .. if what I requested wasn't possible I would've been good with a simple No Ma'am and I would've went on about my business but since I was PROMISED THIS RATE I agreed. I dont even mind paying the 54 upfront for 2 sessions but being billed weekly ... and having to move my money without it being snatched out is INSANE. I know how a business runs ..and add ons are helpful as it increases revenue for the company but dont PLAY WITH THE PEOPLE WHO KEEO THE BUSINESS RUNNING. I want my sessions terminated IMMEDIATELY and i want the training contract DONE AWAY WITH and im not going for its not possible because it is .. I was lied too. what I signed up for wasnt what was on the document and thats my mistake for signing it but I TRUSTED their word.

This just goes to show up that people will literally do anything for personal gain... even if they arent sure that what they have promised is gonna work... all I wanted was certainty. ..

Ill continue to workout here because its conveniently located near me . Again have no problem with the facility but I do not like to be played with. I gave them 3 chances and nothing was done

Whatever you do, don’t sign up through the app. They advertise online for amenities they don’t have and make you pay fees even if you decide you don’t want to be a member. If you decide you don’t want to go to their gym, it’s a scam.

Also, I want to add that they are quick to threaten your credit. As someone else mentioned, it feels like a bunch of kids running the business. The way the economy is today, no one needs this in their life. Just go somewhere else.

I’ve been played time and time again here at amped fitness. I signed up for a personal trainer and a membership now I’m being held accountable for their mistakes. I’ve paid EVERY DIME I agreed to pay and I sent my cancellation letter a month prior to my last session according to my contract and they are STILL REFUSING TO CANCEL MY CONTRACT. They claim they can’t find my initial cancellation letter but they will not be able to cancel my contract without it and unfortunately I still will have to continue with my payments. That’s unacceptable . I should not be held accountable for their mistakes. I did my part. I even sent a follow up letter and have documentations. I have evidence of everything. Laveen called me today harassing me even after the fact and when I explained to her what was going on she told me that I will have to come up there to cancel, now have a good day and hung up on me . My contract states otherwise. It’s children running this place and they’re going to get this place shut down. Very unprofessional. Treat people very inhumane. It’s sickening how they are treating me about canceling my contract properly when I’ve done everything I’ve suppose to on my part.

Got baited into an instagram ad that signed me up for a free trial (that’s on me). I got fired from my job the same week and immediately took another job in a new city. AMPED made it impossible to cancel online or by phone.

Long story short, I NEVER ONCE STEPPED FOOT IN THEIR GYM OR USED THEIR FACILITY. I expressed my disdain for them trying to continue to charge me verbally over the phone and was told I needed to come down in person to cancel (not feasible bc I do not live in Birmingham anymore). Now I am being hit by collections agencies saying that I owe $200. This is criminal practice. BEWARE OF THIS GYM AND OTHERS LIKE IT.

Hate to leave a negative review but my experience here has been pretty bad. I signed up for the $1.00 promo deal for a month which was all good. However since I moved I decided to cancel my membership. I thought I had on the app through the payment section but apparently clicking the one time payment option refers to something else. That’s alright I guess. Then I get a $66 charge on my card for the next month and a yearly maintenance fee. To be fair it was in the first email but at the very bottom. I then went in as soon as I could and actually canceled membership and was not able to get a refund, which is fine I guess. The guy that helped me said I had access until June 29th, only after trying to reason with him that I had already paid for June. However I guess due to some clerical error or something my account was completely deactivated and I could not get in during non-staffed hours. The general manager basically rubbed it off saying they are not going to resend the activation code. I find that to be ridiculous as I paid for this month plus the yearly maintenance. What did I pay for?

The equipment is pretty solid, but the bathrooms and locker rooms are disgusting. They toilets are often down for “maintenance”. This is probably the worst gym in Birmingham. At least one of the toilets are clogged every single time I go in there, the water station is either broken or needs the filter changed, only half of the treadmills work, and the only option to cancel a membership is to show up in person (so if you move and forget you’re screwed). I rarely ever leave reviews because nobody likes a Karen but I had to say something

This gym has a lot of good equipment and it's in a very convenient location. If you go and get the base membership it's a decent value but...

...The staff are SHARKS and will pressure you into getting their WAY overpriced training program. I've done the program since October for $280 a month just for 1-2 days a week of PT. Which to be honest I could have done everything in PT myself. After 7 months I have wasted $2,400 at this gym after finally canceling the contract and having to pay a buyout fee of $500.

This is a good place if you want to work out and nothing else. This place doesn't have many amenities (compared to Planet Fitness), and the restrooms are horrible. (They always smell like a Chevron restroom).

If you are easily manipulated or new to working out, don't come here. They will suck your bank account dry if you're not careful.

I’ve had the worse experience ever! I pay $26.99 a month which includes all access to yoga classes, boot camps , the sauna , hydro massages etc plus an additional $336 for a personal trainer. I was treated the worse today. I’ve just started working out trying to get healthy and let off some tension 4 weeks ago. I’ve noticed my muscles are a little sore after workouts so I thought it would be helpful to relax that with yoga. I was denied, shoved and bad mouthed when attempting to enter the class. The yogo teacher shoved me backwards and told me to get out after 20 seconds earlier letting another guy in. After I made an attempt to explain that I was coming in to join the class and that I pay for it she continued to shove me tell me no and I needed to get out. Once I said something about the other guy she stated “that’s different “ I felt racially profiled and angry. Her excuse was that he’s been coming there 2 years. Had I know I had to be a member of that gym for two years to join a yoga class I would have NEVER payed for it. I live over 30 minutes away therefore I am not taking that drive to be denied a class that I pay for . I come to the gym to get fit , healthy and most likely important ease my mind from a long day of work. I was worked up today from that and left with too much stress, anger and disappointment. Therefore amped is not the environment I am looking for. I’m no longer comfortable.

The gym itself is great but management isn’t the best. The staff continuously pressures you to sign up for a free consultation session to get you to hire a personal trainer and spend more. The trainer didn’t seem to know deeper knowledge than “this lift works this muscle” and “eat healthy” - I asked multiple questions they didn’t know how to answer. Great for a gym partner, not for a paid trainer.

I had been a member of Amped Fitness for 2.5 years with no issue. It wasnt until I was approached by a staff member to partake in personal training that all my issues with this gym came to the fore front.

Was completely misled and essentially tricked into signing a contract that I was not aware I was signing (when I asked what my signature was for I was told waiver liabilities "and stuff". Had to pay $500 and last months membership to break my contract so I could be done with this gym.

Even if you are interested in PT just take your money elsewhere and get actual training from people who are certified. Although Sarah is awesome, the PT at this gym is lack luster and obviously a money grab. They use predatory practices to persuade people to sign up, and will not accurately disclose what your signature is for.

Before this PT contract issue (which if I had known I was signing a contract there would be no issue, but nobody made me aware of any contract or any of its terms. Was just pushed and pushed to provide a signature) I had no problem with Amped. It was cheap and convenient for me so I was able to overlook the glaring problems associated with this gym.

They have obvious plumbing issues (various parts of the gym will smell like feces), bathrooms that have not worked in months (went from 2 stalls to 3 that are now out of order), and multiple pieces of equipment are either broken or turned off.

Do yourself a favor and avoid Amped Fitness at all costs ESPECIALLY anything to do with their personal training. It is a scam and you can find better support and training that is actually worth your money elsewhere.

I used to recommend this gym to coworkers and friends, but now I will be explicitly telling people to look at other gyms that have working bathrooms and equipment, that don't smell like feces, and that have workers certified to train members. They try to cover the mold and other issues by painting the gym; and you can put makeup on a pig...but at the end of the day it is still a pig...(btw the color before was astronomically better and the gym gives hospital vibes now)

So disappointing that a gym I have been going to for so long resorts to such predatory practices to mislead people to signing up for PT. I feel bad for anyone beginning their fitness journey that gets tricked into any contract with Amped because I can't imagine how discouraging that can be.

To the district manager, Vrushabh Patel, who pushed this PT contract on me; the way you're operating this business will be the downfall of it.

Do better Amped.

After reading all the negative reviews, I decided to give it a visit. I used the free day pass to inspect the area, and quality-wise, the gym is pretty mid. Nothing sticks out as amazing, but it's also not a bad gym. You get what you pay for here. The equipment is a little cracked and well used. Some of the drying out in the faux leather cushions can be attributed to people using the hand sanitizing wipes on the equipment instead of the actual spray. Probably because the bottles seemed to be a rare sight. Having said that, it seems that with the amount of sanitizing hand wipes, the gym expects you to just clean your hands instead of wiping the equipment. There's even signs that say to wipe weights before returning them to their respective spots. That way, they won't be liable if anything bad does come of their poor sanitation choices.
Having said I used their free day pass to check out the place, I'm unable to comment on the business stealing people's money from the lack of care when closing out memberships. However, I can comment on the racist comments a little. The place wasn't filled with "white people" like someone said. There was a normal spread of ethnicities when I visited. Though, it could change depending on the time you decide to go. I went at 9:30am on a Wednesday.
Decide for yourself if this place is worth it to you though. Every person is different, and I say this place is better than no gym. 🤷‍♂️

Scam. Cancelled my gym membership 6 months ago and I'm still being charged for a personal trainer that was fired a couple of months into my training. Their reasoning is that the trainer and the gym agreement are individual agreements, and that's BS trying to get money for free. It's obvious you can't use the services of the trainer without a gym membership, and I'm sure they wouldn't take any liability for a trainer that decides to poorly train you outside their facility. 0 stars. In September, I spoke to a so called manager about my job relocation to another city with my current employer. I was trying to pay my percentage the day of (09/30) to avoid future payments since I wasn't going to be in town. I was aware and agreed to the payment for both contracts ( regular membership and Personal Training) for the month of October, 2024. At the time, I was unaware of the job relocation clause on the contract so the manager advised me to send a letter stating my job relocation to avoid paying the percentage of the remaining balance on 09/30. After several attempts of reaching a manager via phone and several follow up emails, I finally received a response on 10/21 stating that additional information is needed. The lack of response from Amped should not fall back on me after several attempts of me reaching out to confirm the status of my cancellation. I have followed up several times to confirm the cancellation and still haven't received a proper response.

I finally received an answer about 25 days later that my cancellation was processed but was going to have to pay for another month of Personal Training and Membership ( A total of $500).

Get this... I was going to be charged for the lack of communication and professionalism from AMPED. This seems like it was done on purpose. I had to take care of these matters by contacting corporate to handle the issue.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND ENERGY HERE.

Unprofessional staff , hidden fees, broken machines and the sauna is always broken. Unqualified trainers. This gym is a joke. Dont be cheap go to a real gym. Great staff, great equipment, very affordable price. Would absolutely recommend this gym. My only qualm was that I had to mail a letter to cancel my membership because I moved out of state before canceling. Understandably, my fault for not canceling, but lame that they don't have a well established member portal online.

Great gym some of the staff members should be looked at ..I go to this gym constantly without a problem but for first time ever I was singled out by some white dude named Grey at the front desk probably gave me a fake name because hewas too scared to give me his full name when I asked him .. so I self check in like always no problem and I had also brought a guest we are both black he also comes with me from time to time never had a problem ...as we're coming in we held the door for one other person who wasn't with us he was white. He never checked in though because my friend and I had l let him in ...so as we're walking in Grey or whatever his name is decides to single my friend and I out saying we have to check in at the desk even though I just checked in and literally doesn't even bat an eye to the white man we let in..my friend didn't have his ID with him but he's been there before they have his file and everything he offered to leave his phone but Grey still wouldn't let him in ...while all of this is going on other people are still self checking in like normal and none of them were black ..Grey is definitely RACIST!

My review *disappeared*. Uses rags and spray bottles that are hard to find. Very unsanitary. Bathrooms aren't kept up. Tanning booths are old. If you use free weights probably good. Most machines are broken or off in weight. Not a good deal. Better of going somewhere else if you want machines.

The worst gym ever with the most unnecessary fees. They don’t even have that great of equipment, their guest policy is incredibly strict, and ridiculous. The staff members are rude and judgy. Why in gods name does a gym need a 30 day notice for cancellation this isn’t a job or an apartment it’s a gym you’re not going to miss me or need to replace me. Save your time and most importantly your money and don’t get a membership here.

I would not recommend this gym. They make it very difficult to cancel your membership by not allowing you to cancel over the phone or online. I went in and cancelled in person a day after my billing date, and they told me that I would also be billed for the following month. So now I’m going to be billed for a month of membership that I don’t actually have. In their words, we’re also going to bill you for the month of August (even though I ended it on July 5th) but you will only have access to the gym until August 6th. Seems like they’re simply in it for the money and don’t actually want to take care of people.

In terms of gyms that contain dumbbells that you can pick up and put down: 5 stars. But that means my garage also gets 5 stars. In terms of pride in ownership: 1 star. The bottle filler filter has had a red light for a month now and it fills about an ounce every 10-15 seconds. I saw mosquitos on the nozzle today. The sauna door has no stripping so all of the heat escapes. There’s used Zyn pouches all over the floor of the sauna and the men’s locker room. The actual bathrooms are disgusting. But nonetheless - it is a $10 gym and they do have weights and the staff is kind. It’s just filthy. I’d love to be wrong about all of this. Please make easy changes and clean up - the bare minimum. It’s convenient to my work and lifetime is expensive so I guess you get what you pay for. Can’t knock that. I’ll keep paying.

Was a member of amped for several years. They made a clerical error and did not charge me one month of membership. Gave a 2-3 month notice to cancel my membership. Paid my membership in full. They had mistakenly not charged me for a random month 4 months before my membership ended. They did not call me to straighten it out. They did not offer to charge my card on file. Instead they sent my account to a debt collector. Now I’m getting hounded for $95 to settle my $20 bill that was amped’s mistake. Super insulting. Yes this place is cheap, but you get what you pay for. The sauna is almost permanently out of order, bathrooms disgusting. Again you get what you pay for

Nice, clean place. Very nice staff that actually answer phone (good luck getting any other 24/7 place to answer phone). Excellent water pressure & plenty of hot water in showers. but no sufficient shower hooks. They use plastic, stick-on hooks, only 1 in 3 are still up. Very busy (crowded actually). $10 day pass. I love that they don't extort u to sign 3 pages of fine print, legal speak "acknowledging" (Lol} that you read, understand & agree to terms that no one in history of commerce has ever read. But instead, they keep your driver's license. 😱 OMG, what an incredibly HORRIBLE idea! No wonder so many people forget their IDs, they never even mentioned they were keeping mine. They just asked for it, then quietly didn't give it back. Obviously an oversight, but just 1 of the 100 reasons keeping people's IDs is a terrible idea fraught with unnecessary inconvenience. It's like a sadistic twist on the George Costanza, "*Accidentally* leave something behind" to necessitate a 2nd visit, trick. To be fair, maybe it's not sadistic, maybe it's just really stupid, inconsiderate or apathetic.

I joined to have treadmill availability to help train for a marathon when dark and weather didn’t allow for outdoor training. Lots of treadmills aren’t plugged in. Most don’t have TV functionality as they should. They are all upstairs where it is hot with minimal air movement. It’s hard to listen to your own music or podcast because the music is so loud you can still hear it through your noise cancelling ear buds. I watched the same half empty Gatorade bottle stay on a treadmill for almost a week before I threw it away myself. People don’t clean up their trash and the fact that it stays there so long is evidence that the staff doesn’t clean or wipe down equipment either. Planet Fitness has tons of paper towels and cleaning supplies available compared to a hard to find bottle here with a dirty rag that’s been used who knows how many times before it gets washed. Bathrooms were never clean when I was there and had water all over the countertops. Overall they are similar to the Planet Fitness model and budget, but having done both I think Planet Fitness is the better way to go as it is much cleaner, better maintained, and overall a much more professional environment.

Thought PT would be a good idea. Got sold into the contract without receiving any details just that it’s a great idea, small payments once a week training. First trainer quit 3rd week and after only short sessions with the next trainer I decided to cancel. I let the new guy know I’m going to cancel and he said sure thing; that’s where he forgot to mention I had to come in disclose the agreement and pay hidden fees to cancel that ended up piling up to $340. No communication whatsoever. I’m suppose to be shipping out in a month but stressing about a continuing debt owed with no other way out.

This place is absolute trash. The employees are minions for a broader conglomerate that could not care less about the customers. Place is dirty. I moved so I went to cancel my membership, and was told the person who handles that wasn't there at the moment. I was leaving town in 2 days and couldn't swing back. Called to cancel and was told I would need to send a written letter to cancel my membership. Absolutely ridiculous. Manipulation in an effort to retain past customers as long as possible. Not even sure how that's legal given the year is 2023 and no one in their right mind communicates through mail. If I could sue in small claims court I would. And of course the $100 annual fee hits before my letter arrives. Crooks.

Was a member here for over two years and wanted to put in my 30 day notice to cancel my membership because I was moving… The system “glitched” and immediately canceled my membership even though I was told I would be fine to workout through the end of September. I spoke with the manager and she told me my only option was to pay $30 more than I usually pay for a one month pass or sign up for a new membership.
Can’t believe this is how they treat a customer that was one of the first to sign up.
Also, the gym is always messy, spills everywhere, gum on the floor, etc
The staff is a bunch of clueless kids that sit at the front desk on their phones and don’t even acknowledge members when they move in.
Big Planet Fitness vibes. Don’t recommend.

Very bad experience trying to downgrade a membership. I called and was told it was downgraded. I check my account two months later - still charged for higher amount. I call to ask what happened. I'm told the original employee changed the membership level but didn't tell me I had to come in to get the fee lowered. So I go in and then learn that there is a fee to downgrade. Seems like a really odd fee and it's frustrating this wasn't told to me either of the times I called. I ask to speak to the manager. The experience with him was so unprofessional and just weird that I canceled. Fee for that, too, by the way. Out the door it costs more to cancel/downgrade than actually attend. And management was so unprofessional and just odd it makes me wonder what else is going on there. Plenty of other places to get fit.

Run!! This place is complete scam with billing. I enrolled due to the .01 promo for under the impression that I only owed $22 a month (was told this at the gym) only for them to be charging me $73 for some annual fee that was not disclosed to me at the time of enrollment. The staff was completely rude and dismissive. I emailed support multiple times. Nothing, I called the Birmingham location multiple times nothing. I ended up having to go up there only for the manager Jordan to be a nonchalant about everything. Funny thing about it, there was another lady customer there with the same complaint as me but she was charged 3 times for an annual fee. (Sheesh)

Just see below the reviews regarding personal training on here and their BBB complaints. I was misled during the initial set up of personal training resulting in unauthorized charges. I attempted to resolve this issue for 4 weeks to find out the following: the General Manager who signed me up was terminated after I left several messages. The new one refused to contact me as he “Does not contact customers to reiterate policy”. I was denied access to the gym for ~2 weeks as I disputed the charge with my bank due to no contact. I wanted to go back to the gym so I was regrettably charged another month of PT again to get access. I then asked since I was charged would I get my sessions that I paid for. I was told the only way was to complete the 3 sessions by tomorrow, which is not possible.

I have been given the run around about my payment plan at the Birmingham location by multiple employees. I had a balance due of $560 for the PT program (that my trainer quit half way through). I took a break due to having Covid and she never called to reschedule. Now I know it’s because apparently she’s gone. I had to get a new debit card so I wasn’t seeing the charges coming out of my account until i went to update my billing info. I asked to speak to a manager about breaking that $560 into installments because it’s was so much money that I didn’t know was coming out. They told me to leave my info at the desk and the Gm will call me back later that day and no one ever called back. The payment hit and emptied my bank account entirely. I’ve spoken to 2 managers about the situation and they keep saying they can’t help me even though the negligence of the desk worker is at fault and not my lack of trying to fix it. I’ve seen reviews from the BBB that this location constantly slaps bills on the customers and then avoids their phone calls.I have tried all avenues to find someone to fix it and this is my last resort. I’m not in a financial situation to just have an empty bank account. I tried to get it fixed but conveniently no one was able to help me until the damage had been done. Having an empty bank account at the beginning of the pay period right be fore the holidays is a nightmare as you can imagine. Like I told Andre im willing to pay it off I just can’t pay it off in its entirety at the moment. Now I can’t even afford to buy out of the membership. I really hope there’s something you can do to help me. This is not the way I expected my holidays to start. I didn’t see a cent of my paycheck and I don’t see how any of them could turn me away knowing they’ve bled me dry. The contract I signed was misrepresented to my by a desk worker named Nick. I would have never signed up to pay for something that would bill me even if they aren’t actively trying to provide the service. I have not a cent to my name I just need someone who actually wants to help me.
