Great gym, with a variety of wall angles and setting. Excellent training area and friendly staff! Thereβs plenty of community events (coffee at the crag, womenβs wednesdays, boulder bash) which is awesome!

THIS GYM IS FANTASTIC!!!! It's THE most chill, fun, and welcoming gym around - with THE BEST ROUTES. We've climbed at gyms all over the country and the world for that matter (we were in the UK this past summer); and the routing of B2 simply can't be beat. Not only do their routes make logical sense (in terms of flow); they're interesting, challenging, and innovative. The staff (Huston, Jayce, etc.) are super knowledgeable, helpful, and welcoming, and the space is INCREDIBLE - with plenty of room for everyone to practice at all kinds of different levels. Frequent changes in routes keeps things fresh. We all need our "refuges" to decompress from the challenges of life and the world-at-large - and B2 has quickly become one of our most treasured oases. LOVE YOU FOLKS - THANK YOU!!!! :-)

Note to management: Me and all my friends come here and love itβ¦just one thing to note: when I signed up for my membership I was informed there is a $5 fee to get something out of the lost and found?? I was flabbergasted and had to ask again. Iβve been to countless gyms and never heard of such a thing. Surely that was not a real policy. Totally understand throwing things away after 30 days but a $5 fee to get something back? Crazy stuff.

Fantastic climbing spot! Came in on Easter not knowing they were closed and the owner let me right in! Visit for friendly people and great routes!

Great bouldering gym! Tons of walls with interesting and varied shapes and angles. Aside from a lack of slab problems, the setting is fun and creative with a range of styles. Thereβs a huge spray wall and training area in the back including weights, moon board, and kilter board. Staff is very friendly, facilities are super clean, and they have a nice selection of gear, snacks, and drinks you can buy at the front. If youβre passing through the area or live near Bham you should definitely check it out!

This gym really has everything. I started climbing here 4 years ago, and I have never had a bad experience with anything. B2 has a great, very friendly staff and great setting (it's very "traditional" with very little "compy" stuff, which I prefer). They also have an outstanding training area, named the Forge, with 4 great spray walls, 2016 and 2017 Moonboards, and a lot of training equipment (weights, hangboards, pullup bars, etc.). An extra bonus thing is that they have an extensive snack and drink selection, including skittles, sour patch kids, peanut butter crackers, Gatorade, Red Bull, Yerba Mate, and more. Overall, I love this gym and have loved it for four years. If you're in the area, definitely check it out.

Really awesome training facility. Old school but exactly what I love in a bouldering gym. Really friendly staff and I had a nice chat with one of the owners. The 70? degree board was wild.

Clean and good vibe. The gym uses its own grading system. But it works well.
There some very interesting routes and the route setters keep them fresh.
The setters are partial to crimpy routes. I wish there are more balance and dyno routes.

Very welcoming staff and environment. My Little Sister and I went to climb for the first time and Carl went out of his way to help us and encourage my Little to overcome her fears. Fun and positive vibe from the members. We will be going back.

Awesome place with a cool staff. They have bouldering and also a small weight room. Generous pricing and everyone that trains there is pretty friendly. Definitely recommend this place if you plan on getting into climbing. They also offer learning courses.

Great gym, enjoyed my visit. The front desk guy, Nick, was super friendly and helpful. The routesetting is generally mediocre, but good for the region. Apparently they set several times a week, which is great. The quality of the holds is good, they even use some wooden holds which is interesting for a change. The crowd was friendly, but by 9pm I was the only one there. There is only bouldering here, however there is a wall with ropes, but the max height is just a little more than the bouldering wall. Probably good for beginners and kids. They do set relatively hard here, with a dot system which corresponds to a grade range. The bathrooms were spotless and the showers were very clean. Overall I had a great experience.

Went and did the climbing 101 class with George. As somebody who had never climbed before they did an excellent job making feel comfortable on the wall, and making sure I had solid basics to work with on my first few climbs. Will for sure be back many times.

This place is a gem, no other way to put it. Over half of the gym is a training facility with multiple spray walls and campus boards. And the spray walls have numerous taped routes which make it even easier to train if you are just stopping in for a day. There are very few gyms left out there like this one. Its great that this place really keeps climbers in mind instead becoming another cookie cutter monochrome low density comp style gym. Iβll definitely be coming back!

This gym is amazing! The staff is great, there are a lot of amazing routes, and the community is awesome!!!
They have a lot of walls with preset routes, a moonboard, several spray walls, training boards, and a workout area. They also have a beginner wall with descriptions, a self delaying system, several chillout areas, shoe rental, and so on.
Most of the walls are at least slightly overhanging, the routes are relatively hard, and mostly in oldschool style.
We love to visit this gym!

Before COVID, this was one of my favorite places to climb in Birmingham. However, I have Cystic Fibrosis and I cannot wear a mask, especially while exerting myself and working out. Birmingham Boulders has not be understanding of this and the owner has made me wear a mask when I have gone there. I do not climb here anymore because I simply cannot for the sake of my health. High Point climbing has a cleaner facility and they have been very understanding of my unique medical condition. They also have a greater variety of training and climbing equipment and better hours for the same price as Birmingham Boulders

I absolutely ADORE this gym! We've only been climbing there for a couple of months, but the staff is super friendly & inviting and they are also VERY covid-19 safe (everyone is wearing a mask, frequently cleaning of popular spots, capacity limit). They turn the gym over about every month (in waves) so there is always a new project to be had. They use a different grading system than the V-scale, so it's a bit hard to know where you fall on the v-scale. Overall, a great spot and friendly for all levels of climbing.

Stopped in for a short session while visiting family in the area. Online waiver was simple to fill out the night before. Easy to find the location.
Staff working the front desk was very helpful. She did a great job taking the necessary COVID precautions, and gave me a brief but helpful tour of the facilities.
The routes here use a 1-5 "dot" grading scale, plus a smiley face for beginner routes. 1 dot is easy; > 4 dots, I'm not even sure Spider Man could do. + sign is in-between dot "grades". Simple enough, and similar to the color / ski slope systems I have seen elsewhere.
Most routes seemed to be in the 2-3+ range. Normally I am a v3-v5 climber, depending on the route and gym. I was able to do every 2 I tried, and one 2+. These routes are tough!
The setting was done well, with a strong mix of holds and problem types. I wish I was good enough to do some of the harder ones! They looked really fun. But even their 2 dots had some challenge to them, and forced some flagging, hooks, dynos I wasn't expecting on initial read. The geometry was comparable to Walltopia, very curvy, lots of inversion, which definitely adds to the difficulty in many cases.
The Forge area looked amazing. Moon boards, spray walls, campus walls, it was truly a sight to behold. Biggest I've seen anywhere. Unfortunately I did not have time to train in this part of the gym but rest assured I will be firing up the moonboard app and failing miserably here next time I'm in Birmingham area.
Overall, I'd say B2 is pretty top-notch. Has something for all experience levels and would recommend to anyone who's interested in climbing.

Great facilities and staff. Top notch and really consistent setting - twice a week! They also have really cool community events. You can tell this bouldering gym is locally owned and the owners are rock climbers! B2 leadership handled the COVID-19 challenge better than just about any place Iβve seen. Also just a really fun place to beβ¦ Thereβs always a great vibe with other members and guests.

My kids had a blast climbing here. Be sure to wear tennis shoes if you wanna save on shoe rental. Harness rental and day passes for my 9, 11, and 14 year old (plus one shoe rental) was around $60. The restrooms are clean and they have a water fountain (BIG plus since we forgot drinks). The staff is super friendly and helpful. There are some couches and chairs, and an area with tables for birthday parties. There are lots of varying challenge walls. The dots on the wall correspond to difficulty levels (one dot=easy, two dot=medium difficulty, etc). It would be nice if they had an area for little kids as my 3 year old got a little bored and I had to keep her out of other climbers' way while trying to take some pictures of the other three. I probably won't bring the youngest with me next time. Overall a great place.

This facility is bar none the best in the Southeast. It is huge with boulder problems from beginner to advanced, there is also auto belays for some routes. A new set of routes are set every Thursday and all sets include problems for all users and skill levels. The Forge is an attached 24hr training facility/gym. They have training walls with 70,50,15 degree decline. There is also a Tension board, Moon board, Red board all for personal training as well as a campus board and multiple set of hang boards. This is a full gym so they have everything from free weights to ellipticals. There is also a full bathroom with optional lockers so you can keep your stuff secure and clean off before heading out after a killer workout.

I really like the openness and lighting in that place, it's very clean and light, contrary to a lot of bouldering places (and even to their other bouldering place in downtown Birmingham).
It's cool that this gym is connected to "The Forge" as well, where there is another overhang to climb on as well as a system wall and multiple training walls -- campus board and so on. There is also a small weight lifting area.
I am taking off one star as I felt the route setting to be a bit unimaginative. Let me explain: While there is a fair variation of grades (on their own system which is easy to understand -- one dot very easy, five dots insanely hard), I found the problems to be not as varied and imaginative as other gyms I have seen. Especially the "easier" problems, one and two dots +, are rather ladder-like, but with the holds just getting smaller and smaller with rising difficulty. I think it could be beneficial to have more problems using hooking or mantling for the easier grades, which would make it more interesting for the non-pros.

Fully equipped bouldering gym plus a robust training/workout area with a friendly atmosphere. Uniform flooring design with no need for modular mats, very comfortable falls. I enjoyed the route setting style and appreciate the diversity of problems. They had everything from soft slab warm ups to 25 move roof problems. Taylor was working the desk when I arrived and he was very friendly and helpful.

Would have given this place 4 stars except the music they are playing right now as I sit here, and since I've been here for 45 minutes, is old, slow, depressing and terrible. It's a cross between a classic rock station and smooth jazz. Routes are just ok.

Birmingham Boulders is definitely my favorite climbing gym. It has a huge variety of routes at all difficulty levels. The facility is always clean and well-maintained, basically what I've come to expect from the good folks who brought us First Avenue Rocks. And that brings me to the most important thing about it: the people are amazing. The community of climbers and staff members are really supportive and inclusive, and just all around good people. Definitely check it out.
